The Canon RF 28-70mm f2 Lens: The HOLY Grail of Lenses
hello guys! just purchased an R8 and wonder does the R7 has better build quality? I mean does it has better weather sealing or more robust body? Thanks all
The R7 does have a more rugged feel and weight. As for the weather sealing I would refer you to the language on the official Canon website. If i remember correctly the R7 page does say weather sealing and the R8 page does not have that language. I would verify that though.
Great tips! One of the photos that struck me the most was @6:46 powerful.
Thanks! I totally forgot about those images. I appreciate the comment. 🙂
I ordered this lens twice, and both times I send it back. I had EF 50mm f1.2L that time which had better rendering. But now that I sell it, I was thinking to buy it again. but you video stoped me. Is hard for Canon users, because there are no good, affordable and light weight 50mm f1.4 or F1.8 like Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8 that I had before.
I really like the 35mm 1.8.
@TMVVisualMedia I have also the RF 35mm F1.8. I like it but less the AF noise. The Sony version is completely silent, has better built, but it doesn't have IS and macro. So Canon is good all-round lens.
Precisely the reasons why I decided to cancel my R5 order for the R6 Mark II. Thanks for the video
What’s your thoughts on the lighter 14-35 rf versus the 15-35 for indoors shooting? I have tried both and I love the light weight if the f4 , but the f2.8 just has a better overall look - very close though.
Thanks for the question! I personally don't have much use for the 14-35 f4. I do use the 15-35mm almost every day for my work and my talking head videos. It's my main lens for video. It's a great focal length for video but i felt i needed the f2.8 for talking head and product videos. . If I were to look at an f4 lens I would be looking at the 24-105 or the 70-200mm f4. It's my opinion that those lengths at the f4 maximum aperture is a dream. I love all lenses really, particularly because they all have their specific purposes.
Do you shoot in 200mp on the s24 when doing product photography?
Not that I can remember. I have never had to crop in to use the extra megapixels.
I agree! When I got the R5II, I considered the RF 50mm 1.8 as a "toy" lens to keep in the bag in case I need it. However, knowing the compromises, I decided to just adapt EF40mm f2.8 or even the EF50mm f1.8 II that I already had.
Very poor review, why the kit lens is not good when it has oss?
Thanks for the comment! Kit lenses have variable aperture. That can be limiting in several circumstances. Kit lenses that have fixed aperture and IS = very good.
@ indeed, but this one’s will cost you under 200 bucks ,and i was referring at video where you can use an f4,5 wide open whit IS , what R lenses you can find for this money plus stabilisation?
@Elzan01 I don't think there are any in that price point. Its my opinion that cheap does not always equal best or good. The kit lenses are just OK. There are STM prime lenses that work much better and produce a much better result and are also affordable. I understand affordable is a subjective term. That's why I hold my opinion. I would much rather use the RF Nifty Fifty with no stability than any kit lens. Once again, that is just my opinion as a person who makes a living with camera gear as a paid photographer and videographer.
You're a very pessimistic person. This makes you a very negative publicitty for your channel, cause we are afraid to be dragged down to your horrible world of shadows. I never ever wanna see a video of you again. You talk about the bad side of the lens, but you ignore completely the image quality and why some people buy it besides its price.
Thanks for the comment!
I only do photography. I don't care much about videos. The R5 is still a monster in 2024. I could take great pictures with a Canon 70D. The R5 is like 100 times more powerful and it beats the 5D Mark IV and its close to a 1DX Mark III. It's a no brainer for photography!!! It might not be the best for low light photography, but we can manage with longer exposure and editing.
Thanks for the comment!
Do not listen to this guy. If you are new this is a perfect lens, get the 35mm prime next and you are set until you learn photography. For the price, you cannot beat this.
Thanks for the comment!
Do you think there is a significant difference between Rode NT USB Plus and Rode NT USB Mini? I can't decide. I will buy rode podmic usb separately
Thanks for the question. I am certain their are differences that may be important to people that use mics professionally. But to the average Joe like me, I would say there is no meaningful or significant difference that you can notice with an untrained ear. They all sound great.
Which one would be good for macro photography? Also with other good video and photos?
Probably the r7 because it has a little more reach. But i would do the R8 if I'm looking for awesome video.
@ i am looking for macro just because I got interested in that. I would also like to do normal photography like scenic views, portrait, video also. I just need advice which one I should pick so that I can use it as my hobby. Also lenses and other accessories should be available easily. Should have good features also.
@neversurrender9632 i get it. It's tough to get a camera that fits every single one of your needs and if you get it wrong it can be an expensive regret. I own both of these cameras and several others and I use them all for professional work and personal use. But I use them for different purposes. For photo and extra reach I always use the the R7. For video and content creation I use the R8.
@ thanks
I currently have a Canon 90d, I shoot Soccer and Lacrosse, for my friends and family. I'd like to get into doing some highlight filming but it will still be on a hobby side. I'm leaning towards the r7 but if I plan on keeping the 90d, would it make better sense to do the r8? I have a EF 70-200mm US II, so the r7 1.6x is attractive for game shots. Thoughts?
I would go with the R7. It has awesome reach and some premium features for sports. You will grow into the R7 camera and it's features vs out growing the R8 after a season or two. R7 all the way in this case.
Why does this guy take 4 business days to get to the next sentence....? Ok.................................................................................................... let's go.
Thanks for the comment!
Great video
Sometimes patience is your saving grace. Black Friday gifted the 1.2L for $1500 refurbished. The tough part now is waiting at the door :)
Nice! Excellent deal.
Great video - thanks!
Love this!
I'm hesitating a lot between the 50mm and the 35mm. It's true that the 35mm would be super versatile and probably the one I'd always use outside, but on the other hand, I think that the 50mm might produce more bokeh and might isolate me more from the background while I play music inside. I record myself with another mic and the camera would of course stay static. The only thing that I don't know yet, is which of the two lenses would be more useful to film myself with an interesting composition. Sometimes I'm thinking about buying both, but I have yet to receive my camera with the kit lens to see which depth of field I would prefer.
The 50mm is so aggressively priced that it belongs in everyone's kit. It's so affordable that you can't regret buying. Go for the 50. Let me know your thoughts after you have used it.

Can the cage with osmo action 4 use a telesin nd filter?
I'm not sure about that specific brand. But I do use a filter from K&F and it fits just fine.
Its quality is better than the kit lens.
Absolutely!
It is not a good lens, but it is good for the price. I use it for photos in low light or to get some bokeh, and it can focus closer than other 50 mm lenses. For video, I use a kit lens RF 24-105 STM, which has IS and quiet autofocus
Idk why they would price them so close? Are you serious? One is a professional level APC camera. The other is an entry level full frame. The R8 is cheap because it is smaller and has less features of the R6Mii. The R7 has larger batteries two card slots exc. You give up full frame for a more professional camera. You give up R7 features to gain a full frame camera that is pretty dam good.
I think they are a little farther away in price now. But I use and my R8 a lot more. The R7 is great but i don't grab it as much.
Thank you sir it is the most comprehensive explanation I’ve heard for beginners trying to understand our place in photography I agree with you opinion 100% you has helped me today one question where does the 15mm falls on what I can I make the most or that focal length
15mm on a full frame camera is considered a super wide and it's great for capturing wide city scapes or wide landscape. A 15mm on a apsc is about a 24mm which is still pretty wide. But that would be great for what i mentioned above but it's also good for street photography.
Such a silly video. It’s like saying driving a ford truck at 25mph vs a Ferrari at 25 mph. Can you tell the difference?
Thanks for the comment!
What a terrible review
Thanks for the comment!
Which microphone is better for podcasting?
Both are excellent but if you want to future proof your set up I would go with the pod mic. Also, the softwarengineer let's you EQ the mic more than the cheaper one. Both are great though! Plus RODE is an excellent brand to work with if you have any issues.
Hi, are there any particular modes or settings that work good ofr product photography on the S24 Ultra. Thanks
Not really. Every scene is different so it would be tough to recommend specific setting. I do recommend a tripod to hold the phone steady and 3 lights. That plus a little patience to take test shots and review. The s24 is great to take product photos. I started on an s20 ultra back in the day.
This vid turned me into a part time professional lol. The things i learnt just made me want it even more now, i do youtube n pro work occasionally. You think the R6 mark ii is a better buy for me?
Thanks for the comment! The R6 is fantastic. And you will do awesome work with it. The file sizes are more manageable and easy to work with. So If you don't need the 45mp then the R6 is my favorite camera ti recommend. If you want the best of the best and it's in your budget you need to go for the R5. It is king.

CanonR7 vs sony a7iii vs sony7Riii which one is better for wildlife
I don't know Sony. You should try them.
Which camera is great for wildlife photography... R7 or r8
Awesome question! The R7 wins for wildlife. Both are great but the extra reach with the crop sensor is clutch.
@TMVVisualMedia please suggest me prime lense for portraits and zoom lense for wildlife

Hey i have a canon 1300D or (t6) and i m loking to upgrade to the r7 or r8, my idea is to shot motorsports/airshows and some landscapes, with black fraiday coming i can buy bouth cameras near 1200€ and canon have a small promotion to sutendent that refound some money so the r8 would be 1000€ and the r7 1100€ My idea is to buy for now a 50mm 1.8 and for zoom the 100-4000mm What can you advise me?? I do not use it for work for now
Thanks for the question! I would definitely recommend the R7. It has some great features for airshows and motorsport. Faster FPS and the crop sensor will give you extra reach. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy to help.
@@TMVVisualMedia Ty so much, i'm a little bit confused cause some people recommended the R7 and other the R8. When i said motorsports i was talking about rally so most of the times i m closer to the subject, near me theres no circuit so the extra reach of the canon r7 would "only" be help full on the airshow part, the IBIS is help full but the lens i m loking to buy have IS so idk if i relly need the IBIS ofcourse its always helpfull. the batery and the card slots arent a big deal for me. One thing that puts towards the R7 is the mecanichal shuter, but i idk whats the difrence and pros and cons of the difrent shuters Maybe insted of the 50mm 1.8 i was thinking about buy 24-105 f.4 L (used 900€) I will do some more research cause this aint cheap at all =))) Ty so much for you opinion =)
@xicoo0612 glad to help! Consider going to a local shop and getting these cameras in your hand. I own these two cameras and several others. Let me know if you have any other specific questions. These cameras are expensive and your decision should be made after thorough research and hands on experience. Let me know what you decide!
@@TMVVisualMedia Idk where to get access to the Cameras, where i live i don't think they have a trial for cameras cause theres only big stores, theres no lilte shops that i know (i live in Portugal), i will se what i can do I gonna see what i can buy, but isnt ez to get these thing, for now i m just researching. You know the defrence betwen a mechanical shuter and a eletronic shuter, i know that mechanican have a small part that uncovers the sensor but whats the diference in photography like, it gives more qualaty? whats the big difrence?? Ty so much for your help =)
@xicoo0612 i have been to Portugal. Porto and Lisbon. Very beautiful. You will be able to find a store that will let you handle and hold the floor model. Would you buy a car without sitting in it or test driving it? The mechanical shutters are great for fast moving subject and you should see less distortion. Imaging a tennis racket being swung. With a electronic shutter you will see in the image the racket warp like it's made of rubber. There are tons of videos explaining the difference.
HELLO TMV, its 2024 almost 25 , after 8 years of shooting wildlife on Canon1 DX mk 2 and also testing out the R5C , I am very much inclined to purchase the R5 simply bcoz of 45 mp & face & eye tracking for stills and video . I completely agree with your insight about file size since i shoot only at 120 fps at 4k on the R5C . Would love to hear your opinion on 2024 R5 which would be affordable than the R5mk2
I think the R5 is a great buy at this time. Since the R5 mk2 is out there are some really competitive prices out there. You are totally right, the 45mp is very nice and the video that comes from the sensor is so clean. If you can afford the mk2 I would suggest getting the newest model. But the mk1 is a tremendous value. Let me know if you have any other specific questions.
@@TMVVisualMedia WOW thank you for your quick reply , since i only shoot wildlife i feel R5 will help me nail the videos with the eye tracking and 45 mp will help me crop . R5mk 2 is out of my budget , since you have experienced R5 should i go ahead with the latest firm ware updates and i only shoot small clips of video at 4k 120 fps. , nothing above 2 minutes actual time
I bought Canon r10 (aps-c) and just wondering is it a good idea to buy this 35mm lens or go with 24mm one(24mmx1.6=38mm) what do you think? Thanks for wideo 👍
Awesome question! It's a really a preference. I own both lenses and have both a full frame and crop sensor. And I tend to prefer the 35mm on a full frame. It's an easy focal length to work with. The 35 on the crop will be closer to a 50mm and that's also really nice but it's a little tight for my shooting style. It is really good though! It's good because these specific lenses come with IS. And that is so good. In your case based on my own shooting style i would get the 24mm to start because it's close to 35 and it has macro abilities and IS. Truthfully you can't go wrong with either. I should make a video about this. 🤔
@@TMVVisualMedia thanks for great answer! Will there be more like distortion visible on 24mm when shooting people portrets? I'm only a beginner but you're Right about this video subject. Couldn't find Any video so far where someone compare those lenses on crop cameras.
@airdronelongford2027 , I always recommend people trying lenses before you buy them. If possible take a trip to a reputable store and ask to try the lenses. Almost every shop I have even been too has floor models and they let you mount the lens on your camera. I dont notice much distortion on the crop sensor with the 24mm. It's a great focal length on the sensor. Let me know what you decide!
Thanks for this wonderful video. If i want it for street photography and portrait, like 80% in the daytime and 20% night time. Which do you recommend r7 or r8 and which lenses? I have osmo p3 for video and its working very well
Both are great options for street photos. For me the real deciding question is "will i ever need this camera for paid work" if the answer is yes I will want to move to paid work then I would recommend the R7. Just because it has some desirable features for professional work. If you don't ever plan on doing paid work I would totally just go for the R8. It's so good! The sensor is so clean and crisp. If you go for the R8 you will need to get some extra batteries. As for the lens. That depends on what you like to shoot and your budget. If you have a large budget I would suggest the 24-70 f2.8. It's an expensive lens but probably the last lens you will ever need forever. If you have a slightly smaller budget they just released a 28-70mm f2.8 which is really cool. And if you have an even smaller budget I would urge you to look at the STM primes. I own all of them because they are so affordable. I like the 35mm and the 50mm. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy to help.
@TMVVisualMedia i bought the lenses and adapter but not yet the camera 🤣 and I wasn't sure about the camera. Thank you so much so I will keep going with r7 ❤️
@lihaoalhasan7872 excellent choice. Let me know how you like it!
@TMVVisualMedia one more question, is better to have sigma rf 18-50mm or canon 24-70mm?
@lihaoalhasan7872 , something to keep in mind with the R7 is the crop factor. So on the R7 the 24-70 will be more like 35 to 100mm. And the 18 to 50 will be 28mm to 80mm. As long as both options are a constant aperture, both would be great choices. Keep in mind that when asking these questions that my opinions are subjective and based on my experience. You may have a different shooting style and different artistic goals.
I want just one camera for talking pictures of people indoors and outdoors, cars, studio etc. . . not for sports or recording videos they are the samprice and don’t need both, which one you think would be the best choice? Thank you very much 😊
Both are great! I would say for casual non paid work i would go for the R8. It's just super easy to use. The R7 is great but it has some more advanced features that are not needed for casual use.
I got the nifty 50 alongside my R10 last August and I frequently use it for close-up shots and other situations where the 18-150 kit lens is not ideal.
Thank you bro simple and straight to the point great video 🤙🏽
You're welcome! Thanks for the view 💪
@ Bro so I’m in a bit of a predicament my original plan was to buy a sigma 18-35F1.8 and adapt it to my current m50 and shoot with it until I upgrade to an R7 but recently one of my friends offered me his a6600 with a kit lens and a 20mm full frame prime lens for 1,000 dollars so now I don’t know what to do the reason I like canon is because I already have 2 lenses that can be adapted to an R7 however with Sony the lenses you can get are more widely available so I don’t know which way to go should I stick with canon or switch to Sony what do you think?
Ask your friend if he will let you borrow the kit for a weekend and test it out. See how it feels. I think you will be wanting to upgrade in 6 to 9 months from the Sony to a higher end Sony. Leaving you in the same spot your are now except with 1000 bucks less. I always recommend trying stuff out like this before buying. Either by renting for a few days or by going to the local camera shop and getting the system in your hands. This stuff is expensive. Would you buy a car without taking a test drive first? 🤔
@@TMVVisualMedia thanks bro for the advice I ended up getting the sigma 18-35 and am planing on getting the R7 soon I wasn’t really impressed with the Sony it just had a weird feeling I definitely prefer canon however the native lenses are expensive I just hope sigma can get some newer lenses out soon for the rf
Well, that does it. Rarely do you see reviews like this where they talk about the grunt work associated with new cameras. A lot of this stuff was in the back of my mind but I’m glad you talked about it. I think I will get the R6. I do about 5-10 shoots a month and it seems like a huge headache with those files sizes.
Thanks for the comment! The R5 series is definitely a better camera. But everything around it will need to be upgraded if you want to have a good workflow. Biggest thing I recall was culling through images. The computer i had sounded like a jet engine
Change your job my frend!
