It goes back to that saying "Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime". Experience is invaluable in every field snd photography is one of them
This is all very true! I can attest to this as a freelancer. Been working as a freelancer for years now, but started out helping a friend who was a freelancer for free, and learning along the way. I might've not got paid for doing that for about a year, but it set me on a path that is now my main income!
Free work definitely helped me build relationships and a decent client base to start. Also it’s a way to learn pretty fast what u like shooting long term vs what u won’t want to deal with. As well as how to handle when things go wrong on a shoot. Great video
Awesome comment! Thanks for the insight. It doesn't take long once you get in the a community of people. I got in with a make up artist and her network and now I'm that guy. I also appreciate the view.
@@TMVVisualMedia For sure! This was pre-pandemic so it was a different time. It can still work now but might take more effort with the short form take over 🤦🏾♂️ it should pop on your feed if u subbed 🤙🏾
Great video, free work will help build a lot. Definitely be selective about them. I did a lot more free/cheap work in the beginning... still some nowadays but very few of them.
Thanks for the comment! It's only a stepping stone. I only do them now when I need content and when it's a neat project. Or like I mentioned I can network to a new group of people.
I totally agree. I think that doing free shoots until you have enough experience to charge a price that you are happy with is a much better strategy than charging for 20$ shoots when you are just starting.
I've done free photos and photoshoots for friends and family, and this summer I want to start getting paid for them. I'm going to be buying new gear and I'm excited. As you said, I'll be doing some free photoshoots, mainly to those that are closer to me just so I can build a portfolio. At the same time, some other friends do want to pay me for my work, so that's also exciting. Thank you for your videos! I'm also curious, where could I see your portfolio? I'd be very interested in seeing your profesional work and get some guidance. Again, thank you!
Increase what you charge to clients with these 3 pieces of gear 👇

It's a slow process. But it compounds on itself.
Thanks for the comments and the view, amigo!
I personally think in this day and age, photography and networking go hand in hand. You have to put yourself other there!
Agreed!

@@TMVVisualMedia Yea man kind of the same. Except it was enhanced by social media. Eventually I gotta make a video on it.
Send it my way when you post it! I got to learn from the people actually doing it.

Fact!
I still remember my first 20-dollar shoots. Times were much simpler back then.
