    I had a problem with my surface not able to be seen on other computers. Thanks to the explanation of how miracast works, I found out that it was because the Wifi-Direct device was not activated in the device manager, and that's why the surface was not discoverable !

    Nice video. 20H2 appears to have completely removed Project to this PC completely from my Surface Pro 7 (I'm in the US). Even if I install the optional wireless display component, I can't project anything to my SP7 via Miracast. Miracast projecting to my MS wireless display adapter appears to not be affected.
    I think this is fine since most projecting of your phone to your PC will be done through Your Phone. Otherwise I can't imagine a use case for it.
    As for projecting a PC to a wireless display, this is obviously very helpful! It's a battery hog but it's very helpful. As I think I mentioned previously on a video of yours about the wireless display adapter, pre-Covid I found wireless projecting very useful while teaching or giving a presentation. Having no wires is surprisingly liberating on a device meant for serious pen input - perfect for PowerPoint and OneNote among other things.
    Personally I don't see a lot of value in Side Car. I like having a second display on the go, but why take even more battery by doing it wirelessly? A wired connection is a lot more practical even if your laptop isn't plugged in. Besides, most Surface devices are pen-and-touch native anyway. Can't say that for any Mac.

      Strange - I just tried it now and it is working. What happened before (when my SP7 was docked) was that under Settings > System > Projecting to this PC, it said something like "Projecting to this PC is not available on this device." Now that I'm off the dock and on Wi-Fi, it no longer says that. Sorry for the confusion - though I'm still not sure what happened!

    Any idea how to run Microsoft's Display Adapter on on Windows7?
    My laptop works with Chromecast, so that seems to suggest Miracast is supported (my NIC is an Intel AC 7260 / Intel WiDi v4.2.24.0)... and according to the Microsoft Display Adapter website, the adapter/app works with Win8 and above, and "may or may not work with older version of Windows."
    The problem is, the Microsoft Store won't even try to install the App on the Win7 laptop. If I can't install/run the app, is there any way I can connect to the Microsoft Display Adapter without it?

    • @oztabletpc
      @oztabletpc  3 года назад

      The app is not needed, but Windows 7 does not support Miracast natively. There was some Intel software that enabled it, but I don't think they publish it anymore.

    been trying to use miracast to connect my PC's display to my surface go and after a bit of work it's worked, but only with projecting the surface to the pc (the pc will show up in the surface's connect menu) but not the other way around (the surface showing up for the pc to project onto). i'm already not super hopeful about the entire thing because part of what i'm going to need to do for it is have the ability to both draw & video call which the surface alone can't really handle without overheating and from what i've tried with the connection i can currently get it's pretty awful, but just to try it is there a fix you have for the devices connecting one way but not the other? thanks!
    (tldr surface hosting the connection works but PC hosting doesn't because the PC doesn't see the surface)

    Hi, I love your video related to Windows! I'm windows fan! everytime I have some trouble I came to your vid! Now, I have a question tho.
    since pandemic started, school is fully online and one of my class, it is hard to keep it up with one screen. (I use surface laptop. I love this laptop!) I was thinking to get a second monitor so I can be in class watching professor to do some coding at the same time I can work on my second screen, but second monitor for laptop can be expensive for student like me:( Now, I remembered surface RT in my closet I bought when it came out. I know it cannot use as a second display with wired connection. (they only support exporting screen.) I also think it does not have miracast feature unless I download app like splashtop... (I had tried splashtop but it makes windows in weird sizing) my question is....is there anyway I can use surface RT productively in 2021? some great app for second screening? if not I don't know what to do with RT now...LOL I apologize for long comment but appreciate your time reading it!!! That's likely because of a content playback restriction in the app you're using. The developers of many streaming apps (Streammotion comes to mind) are lazy and incompetent. They don't support wireless HDMI becuase they are not up to speed with the new technology of the last 15 years. Sorry, about the sarcasm! This is a personal pain point for me too.
