I can’t remember where exactly my dad said this took place in Cali. He asked Roth though, “aren’t you a famous celebrity?” And Roth replied, “something like that,” as he sparked up the cigarette my dad bummed off of him. My dad said DLR seemed like a normal person while they conversed… until one of his assistants approached him and said “Mr. Roth your chopper has arrived on the helipad”. The only reason more old school VH fans like Roth (although you all just don't know it) is because there's a human pre-disposition to prefer 'the first' of something (the original actor in a role, the original singer in a band, the original recipe of a food, the original version of a song etc.). However, that doesn't mean the new thing isn't actually better. You just have a pre-disposition to like the first version. @skybluemarshall Год назад +5

@Chucky Dall Ha ha! I could totally see him doing that. My high five comments were based on a little vibe that I got from listening to DLR talk in other interviews as well. He's constantly trying to randomly insert little jokes in order to spice up the conversation, but many of his jokes require you to understand his now obscure references. I get all of his jokes because I was in my late teens when their debut album shook the foundation of the Rock and Roll world in the late 70s.
But, I started thinking about what his conversations might sound like to someone younger, who doesn't understand all of Dave's random, off-color, and sometimes hacky or unfunny jokes.
I thought about those types of guys whom I've known, who would say something that wasn't all that noteworthy and then they would put up their hands for high five validations, which made for awkward conversations sometimes. You'd think to yourself, "Really? We're high fiving over that comment? It really wasn't THAT funny, dude."
Dave sort strikes me that way. Even when his jokes miss or bomb, he still acts like he's expecting a response. No, judgment. That's just DLR being DLR. In a weird way, it kind of makes him an even more likable character because he's so quirky.

Roth 1 #1 album (after he left the band). Hagar 4 #1 albums with VH. Roth = show (and owning an amp). Hagar = go and a voice that is timeless.
