Taking My Wife Sailing For The first Time.. But First, Lets Fix The Boat Ready For Adventures

- Twahn (My wife) is pretty keen on the sail boat so we found some time to get out on the water and raise the mainsail for the first time. Has been a busy week, working hard to get the sail boat up to spec and ready for some ocean adventures. New oversized anchor, fixed solar and a little fridge were ticked off the list. Just need the tender and we're ready... until the next thing breaks... Cough, Topping Lift & Outhaul😅

Pro tip: If drilling into the boat, you should be drilling a larger hole than needed, fill it with thickened epoxy, then redrilling it to the correct size. This prevents moisture from reaching the core of the boat and rotting the boat from the inside out. You now have holes where water will not only sit from the anchor, but from water rolling over the bow. Not too late to pull it off and make the correction.
Great tip, thanks mate.
@@alexandersupertramp1293 He actually says it’s wood between the layers of glass
@@alexandersupertramp1293 If you noticed when he was drilling. you could see wood dust on the end of the drill.
@@alexandersupertramp1293 That is where the seam is. Deck mating to hull.
I'm rebuilding a boat now and I love this tip!! Thanks sir!!
Also keep the old anchor, add new rope with eyelet, very handy in bad weather to deploy 2 anchors 45 degrees apart from the bow, or as a stern anchor in various scenarios, in a river channel etc.
A stern anchor with the spare is a great shout
Yes always best to have two anchors on board.
spent just about anhour watching some dude fix his boat.. and I couldn't be happier for it. Good job!
@@BRANDORILEY Have to agree with you, he totally deserves to 👍
So cute "I've got a girl in my video" 🤣 Fun family adventures coming up!
Yeah!!!! Just like "Chris bamman"...
See these guys join those trips together whit his familys was amazing!!!
Very, very inspiring. Made me look to my own and imagine new ways to join whit them too👍👍👍. Realy thanks, bro!
At time, looks like you have a graet lifemate, congratuletions. Now i expecting to meet the kids.
Good trips.
What a blessing...you and your wife working as a team. She seems very enthusiastic and you're both a joy to watch! God bless you and your family!
Seemed she expected a bit more 😁
The next step on your new anchor setup is a snubber. Basically it takes the load off the roller and onto your large Sampson post just behind your furler. There are phone apps that will also monitor your drift via GPS and sound an alarm if you start dragging anchor while you sleep.
Hahaha!!! This is like sailing with my dad! "We're never leaving the dock, are we...."
If nobody is going to mention it then I will. I'm not trying to be creepy or anything, but good lord Rod, your wife is so beautiful! She seems so sweet and you can tell how much she loves you just by the looks she gives you. Every man needs a good woman by his side and it seems like you've got one. You're blessed, man.
Hey mate, working alone tightening deck bolts (above and below deck), I always use multi/vice grips on the below-deck nuts and tighten the bolt above topside….vice grips hold nut and swivel only as much as the hull allows…. Don’t need another person.
Yep a set of multigrips would have been handy for sure. Might add them to the boat kit👌
The only issue I can see with the swivel in that spot is if it gets snagged in the hawse pipe or on a deck fitting when you deploy the anchor. You definitely want to mouse the swivel with stainless wire too. This stops it from accidentally coming undone cause you don’t want to lose that sweet anchor. It is a sweet little boat. Can’t wait to see some big adventures in it.
Definitly mouse the swivel so you don’t loose your anchor. Looking good though congrats
At least zip tie the swivel bolts for sure.
The biggest loss when losing an anchor is not the anchor itself, but the boat which will probably be sent on a reef while the crew sleeps.
Rod's so into boating that he even uses an anchor for this car.
I appreciate how you take us through the troubleshooting and ideation instead of just a finished product review. Great stuff
What a good sport your wife is !!! She is a Star !!! You are a lucky Man !!! It will be great to see some family outings ! Thanks for sharing your adventures. I would put some sealant in the screw and bolt fittings for your anchor mount. Happy adventures!
Oh my God! bro the new boat is awesome , this boat will add color to your videos 😍😎👍👍
dude i already love sailing channels... now that he got this boat im so excited.... god almighty it will be a amazing time for him..
She thought it was bigger....? I get ya mate. Live with that everyday.
Hi Rod. Love the boat work. I know that you're really going to enjoy it. Just one quick suggestion. You're going to need to seize (wire) The shackle bolts to make sure that they don't back off and you lose your anchor. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Cheers mate, Yep will wire it up for sure 👍
Rodster, so good to see your subbies creeping up - you bloody deserve it mate!! Whilst we all enjoy your vids and adventures - none of us really know the thought, work and dedication that you put into bringing us this awesome content. I'm sure I speak for many when I say that we really appreciate you bringing sunshine, freedom, positivity, wholesome values and great experiences into our lives. Cheers dude 😎
An anchor looks bloody massive on a nice sunny calm day in the harbour. The same anchor looks a lot smaller when your engine fails off a lee shore and there's a squall coming. Great video; thanks mate.
i would respectfully suggest you both do an RYA course or two on sailing, day skipper and even coastal qualifications. It would make a world of difference to confidence and most importantly give the wife the knowledge to get you home if something happened to you. This is so important for safety. I'm a power boater [have RYA Coastal Skipper and yacht master coastal classroom ] but as my wife won't really learn how to even drive the boat, it makes it almost impossible for me to leave PPB in Vic, as it would be irresponsible to put her in the position of danger if i got incapacitated.
It was so good to see your wife with you. Love her laugh, hope we can see more of the two of you on camping and sailing trips. I am generally not interested in watching people fart arsing with stuff but i found watching you working and the way you explained things interesting. Love from a very white snowed China
Your one of the best RUclipsr inspiration Rokkit Kit don't you know that because I've watched all your videos and I see the your channel didn't grow faster that much but look at now you got 400k subscribers and many views than the old videos so for Me you are inspiration Rokkit Kit never give up on RUclips 👍😁.
Having bought and repaired an old sailing dinghy this year I thought I could give u a few pointers to help get this beautiful boat sailing smoother. 1) Replace important ropes with new ones. Old ropes tend to get less flexible and smooth with the years and salt water therefore replacing the mainsail halyard, the vang and any other ones u think aren't very smooth with new ones will make it a lot better. New ropes are lower friction and much more reliable so I would recommend them. 2) Old boats need a lot of WD-40, especially in rollers in the mast and boom, it will help a lot with making everything smoother. The last thing you want is a pulley or roller getting stuck in strong winds. Finally as others have said make sure you wire that shackle. Can't wait to see your adventures with the boat.
Genuinely excited about this new boat! It’s odd sharing that feeling when I’m not actually using it…
Same :)
Your little lady was keen to have a sail ,, The boat will add a new element to your channel ,, I reckon it will work beautifully ,, all the best,,
To make raising and lowering the sails easier, I highly recommend installing some "lazy jacks". This was one of the first things I did on my '72 Cal 27 T2. You can basically just release the main halyard and the sail *almost* folds itself on the boom. I'd do that when soloing or during rough seas, and just neaten up the folds when I was back at dock (or anchor). It's an easy one day project.
Your excitement is contagious, and to see Mrs Kit's enthusiasm...yeah, lets get the kids out of school, some spare food and tools...and go!!!
Beautiful country, beautiful boat and beautiful mrs. Well done bruv. Enjoy it.
Perfect will do. That’s what it’s all about, having a boat that you could spend more time with the wife and kids. Happy sailing bro!
Wow I hope you record more with your wife. I love her🥺
Mouse that swivel connector up thats what the holes are for, stainless and galvanise dont mix get galvanic reaction, that bow roller cound have done with some bedding compound like silicon under it. Nice boat good potential
Holy crap, congrats on 401k subscribers. It only seems like yesterday I was giving you congrats on 10,000. Couldn't be happier for a genuine guy like you Rod
Great. I love the excitement of having the new boat and going for the first sail. I know that feeling. Have fun and stay safe. Ray
So happy for you, having sailboat! And kudos to your lovely wife for being a real trooper and joining you.
Bro that is awesome 👌 you are going to make some amazing family memories on this dream boat and we'll deserved mate so happy for you and the family 👪
Awesome vid. You and the Mrs have caught the sailing bug.
i use vice grip on the locknut under.. then go up and turn until the vice grips stop on the hull or other bolts
Can’t believe you got the roller on without dropping something in the drink ! I wouldn’t be so lucky. A couple of things with the anchor. 1 be sure to go back and lock wire the shackles and swivel. 2 The Hawse pipe has a chain stopper already so no need to put another shackle on the chain to secure it. Great vid Rod.
I've seen a guy hang an upside down open umbrella off his boat when doing jobs like that, if you drop something it will catch it
Always mouse your shackles up mate. Mousing them is using some decent fine stainless twitch wire, through the hole of the shackle pin, around the shackle leg and back through the pin's eye.( can use good cord, but stanless wire. will last longer. . this will stop them working loose.. All your shackles, not just the ones on your anchor rope and anchor. .Cleavis pins also if they feel loose.. .. be safe , be well.. nice little boat you have :)
So good seeing you bring your wife with you! I can’t wait to see your family out on your first voyage!
The magic moment and she liked it. So much for solo trips. LOL Best of luck Bro.
It's a very rare sight to have you and the wife being out in the water! I am glad that you two are enjoying
Loving this new direction. Can't wait for more
This is so cool. Thanks for your videos. Been following you for a good 3 years from memory. Glad you sorted the solar power out!! Makes me want to buy a lil sail boat now!
You are living the dream. Keep the videos coming.
I'll give a super big NOICE! for that. Awesome boat brother!
My grandparents had a house over the canal where it's now cleared there....expect for the old boat shed. We grew up sailing a Hood 23 out of there for many years......great to see you enjoying such a great spot!
Loved it. That was great and lovely to meet Twahn. Loving the new Yacht.
Looks amazing, can't wait to share some more of your great adventures.
From your simple boat to a real boat. The journey with you sire is relaxing and fullfilling!
It's looking good Rod 👍. I see the passion in your eyes when you are working on your sale boat getting it ready for alot of journeys with your family. I thought it was pretty cool that you and your wife snuck out for a quick trip. Even your wife looks excited, she started cleaning the inside lol 😆. Can't wait to see your boys joining you all. Stay safe out there and have a blessed day. Aloha from Kansas
I would recommend putting a thimble on that eye splice where the anchor chain connects to the anchor line. The thimble will prevent chaffing.
Hopefully a helpful little trick for you. Carry an umbrella that has a hook handle on board for when you do repair work on the water. Then just hang it upside down in the area you are working on. That way if you drop anything, it lands in the umbrella
Yer video came on while I was doing chores, my kids breathlessly came running to find me in the kitchen, telling me that "There's a Mrs. Kangaroo Guy!!!". And so there was. Cheers mate, from watching it myself, you made boat repair interesting to my 3 and 5 year old daughters, lol. It's in the low 30s Fahrenheit roundabouts here during the nights, weather looks wonderful where you are. Gratz on a sailboat! Looks like you and yours will pour lots of love making it yours and enjoying it before hopefully getting back what you put in.
Hi mate, liquid electrical tape is your friend for your wiring connections. I use 3 coatings with heat shrink. The last layer I leave tacky so when I heat the heat shrink the liquid electrical tape squeezes out each end. This will give you an absolute water proof connection. I have used it on my yak sounder installs for years and still good. Also some zip ties on those anchor/chain shackles would be a good investment. Cheers, BobbyB
Sailing is my life and it is great to see someone experiencing the same things that I got to experience
I’m really enjoying this next phase of your adventure. It’s great that it’s now a family affair. Good luck with the new boat.
This is like the teaser for things to come. Exciting times ahead!
Love the new yacht Rod. Great to see captain Twain onboard ⛵️
Fantastic effort buddy, Work put in make's for enjoyment out , Boat looking better already , Gonna be lot's of fun
Fun stuff Rod. Enjoy your wife enjoy your life. Can’t wait for your next adventure.
Congrats! Love the boat and love to see you all out there!!!
Always something I've wondered if I'd be into, so I'll be keeping a close eye on this. Don't just share the good parts! Looking forward to the adventures!
Hello captain,
Firstly, I must say congratulations on the new vessel, and your wonderful family. Your vids keep me on the edge of the chair because I love fishing and camping very much too. Also, there's so much to learn from your experiences.
' I got a girl in my videos, crazy' haha awesome. I am living my dream through you. Best wishes.
Watching you and your wife just sitting there enjoying the boat under sail was beautiful, soulmates enjoying life is the best 🙏
Thanks for the videos! Great to see your sailing life.
Mirroring the comments of others, the only problem I see with the swivel is the bolts coming unthreaded. As long as you somehow secure those bolts and prevent them from unthreading, you should be golden. I'm loving the videos on the new boat. My envy knows no bounds. Good on you.
Man, just to have the money to do what you do is amazing. Keep it up I'll never have the funds for such a great hobby but at least I can live vicariously through your adventures.
God bless you and your family! You make such a nice crew team!
I would have already been fishing the screwdriver out of the water 5 times now and had to go back to the hardware store for more screws and or washers.... lol ... Nicely done my friend, cant wait for the sailing videos.
Great informative stuff. Ive never owend a sail boat, but the time has come for me to venture out. Vids like yours help to relieve some of the anxieties. Thank you.
It's great seeing a bit of the family.I can see some fun trips in your future.
love the video and i am glad the boat is going well for you. look forward to the next one
So good! That anchor is perfect, bigger the better! I highly highly recommend going for an overnighter by yourself first before taking the missus! On a sailboat there are so many noises at night like the halyards rattling against the mast, the helm squeaking etc etc and if you pick a bad anchorage with a cross swell it’s like hell. Got to make sure it’s as idilic as possible when the misso comes along cos you want that pen and boat to last! Unless your misso is a unit and could sleep through an earthquake.
I might be wrong but the mast looks like it's wooden to me, maybe the rattling wouldn't be too bad.
@@RubyDoobieScoo haha who knows. I reckon its painted ali thats had some rope chafe over the years to make it look like an exotic wood.
Really excited to see where this boat can take you!!
Tip. The hole in the shacle pin is for wire to go through to stop the pin undoing. Wrap through hole and around shackle shank twist wire to lock old style. A cable tie maybe these days.
Haha years ago I lost an anchor exactly like this. I was new to boating and had 4.65 stacer for fishing.
Awesome, can't wait for the adventures to start 👍
Excited to watch this when I get home
Amazing vid bro, great to actually be able to see you fixing all the issues
Nice sturdy shelf for the fridge ! I luv tillers over wheels, keeps the cockpit clear ! Cheers
On that bow sprit ya should sikaflex some trailer skid material so the chain doesn't distroy it. I have with my one the same one as yours.
thank you for sharing , really am happy for your smart buy on this lovely boat , .... much respect from Monterey California Waters....
Onya! Nice to see you both enjoying the boat
Great job! Can't wait until you take out the whole family for an adventure!
I didn't watch other videos, but judging by the fact that you pull the sails and only then open the cords, it says that you haven't sailed much. But every day on the water is an adventure, especially with sails. good luck .
Love the new boat. Looking forward to the new adventures.
That’s awesome mate. Can’t wait to see the trips you going to do.
Boat is coming along nicely. M excited for yr future trips with family!😊
Pumped to see you fish, dive and cook from this little beauty. Congrats on the beautiful wife and beautiful boat. The options are endless with the new purchase, especially if you bring the kayak with you to get to those spots where the ⛵️ might not be able to get to.. Enjoy!!
Great video mate and good to see your wife out with you...I must say I like your wood work skills 👍 👌 can't wait for the family fishing camping video...cheers mate 👍
Love your videos dude! And super excited for you and your family! I have a feeling you all are going to have a blast with that sailboat. Congrats!!✌🤟
Good stuff Rod! Nice to see someone reaching for new horizons!
OMG! Can't wait to see more videos on the boat!
I don't know anything about boats, but I love being out on the ocean, and I love watching you take Misty out! Can't wait for the ocean vids!
Lots of work up front that will make it all the more enjoyable. Thanks for sharing and enjoy.
Beautiful wife Rod. You are a blessed man.
What an awesome job of your fridge shelf! You will have many enjoyable adventures!
Thank you ! Every video gets me closer to my own intrepid adventures here in the southern US. Blue hole creeks out to the Gulf, then along the Emerald coast. Best wishes to you & the fam, mate.
This was cute! 🥰
It's so refreshing to finally see a RUclipsr with 432k subscribers and doesn't fill their videos up with bells and whistles and music and graphic effects and sound effects and the sky and the Earth.
