I lived through this, but years later I heard it and thought "oh my. that was so good". But everything was good in 1984 so to me at the time it did not stand out. Listening to it, with my eyes closed, takes me back to my youth, the feelings, sites and atmosphere of the 80s.
I984 was my favourite year, first love college years, & only thing to worry about was what to wear on a Saturday night out, God get me a time machine now.
This song makes me cry.was listening to it when I got the news my mom had passed away.makes it feel like yesterday, not 7 months ago,she passed away when I listen to it 😭😭😭
Sorry for your loss. My dad died in an accident in the Lake District in 2020 and it reminds me of 1984 when he was 40, over a decade younger than I am now. It was truly a long time ago but still sounds amazing.
I lost my mum six weeks ago today. It was cancer. I put a CD on this afternoon and this record that I liked in '84 but had forgotten about was on the CD. I instantly remembered the song and all day I have felt that mum has been here listening to it with me.
@@Cosford869 your mum is listening with you when you put that CD on. I listen to Deacon blues Dignity . It was one of my brothers funeral songs on 6th October 2022.He had cancer. Aged 54.
@@glenshea1967 Thank you for your words. Mum died on 11th October 2022, a few days after your brother's funeral. Mum was 65 and had been full of life. I never expected her to be taken away so young. I'm sorry to hear about your brother. Even younger than mum and not much older than myself. Nearly six months have passed now since mum went. The grief is getting harder to bear as each day passes. I miss her.
@@Cosford869 Thank you too for your kind words about my brother. Yes he was only 54 a year younger than me. He had the c for 4 years. He was brave. Him and his fiance planned his funeral and songs etc. Yes your mum was young too. Have you got friends and family you can talk to.?
They were many songs in the 80s that deserves much more value but THIS!! A true gem loved it then love it now should been right up that polar spot i think the singer is martin bramner SUCH a beautiful voice with FAB harmonies needs to go over a million views this beauty.
You're joking aren't you? 1984 was the height of the Thatcher government, the miners strike. Mass unemployment. One of the bleakest and most violent times in this country's history. What on earth were you thinking when you wrote that?
@@zeddeka And a Happy New Year to you too! I was drawing on memory, and the point is: you're absolutely right about all those horrible things and STILL there was hope back then. That's how revolting the present day is in comparison. And that's even before Generative AI sets in...
@@zeddeka All true but the observation that there was still hope then is correct, compared to today. Thatcher destroyed the UK and we live in Thatcher's Britain today due to the egregious effects of her policies. The miners' strike was the decisive turning point in the destruction of workers' power through the unions as intended by the Tories. The Channel 4 series about it airing currently is a timely reminder- the episode about Orgreave is shocking as is the whole way it played out. Scargill is a hero as far as I am concerned. The Cold War also made nuclear war more likely in the eighties and was frightening but compared today the world was arguably more stable, ironically.
A fabulous track. One single that I will never forget. It shows that white British people can make great soul records and for that we thank The Kane Gang.
I was 16 in 1984 , hard to believe some of the girls dancing are in there 50s ,60s now ! Where have the years gone, but I’m so glad the 80s were my era.
??? You clearly know nothing about the 80s then. Massive unemployment, riots, AIDS, the thatcher government, spiraling violence that made the UK the most violent country in Europe. It was one of the most unhappy, violent decades in recent history. The music was a form of escapism. If you want to know what the 80s was actually like, listen to "Ghost Town" by the Specials. They wrote it about how horrific life was in the 80s.
I WAS IN ENGLAND AND IRELAND WHEN THIS MADE THE TOP 10 WHAT A BRILLIANT SONG I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT STILL REMINDS ME OF ME ON HOLIDAY I DONT KNOW IF IT WAS IN SPAIN WHEN I WENT BARCELONA AND IBIZA BUT NOT REALLY AN IBIZA JAM BUT ITS A AWESOME SONG STILL THE KANE GANG RULES
chart position 30 before it reached number 12 after the second performance on TOTP chart position 15 because let me tell you people this is an amazing written , produced and performed masterpiece !
Mate, you just want to be young again. If we're honest, there were a hell of a lot of things about the 80s that were horrific. I'd love to be young again. Would I want to go back to the 80s? Not at all, other than to see family and friends who are no longer with us. The 80s was an angry, violent decade. Best left in the past.
What an absolutely beautiful, magical song. Brings back some really happy memories from the 80s. Can't believe l've only just found it on RUclips. Thank you for posting it ❤ x
I recorded this song in the States from a syndicated radio show called Rock Over London! I didn’t find the album until the 90s in a used record store in New York. I never stopped looking! 🥰
Escuché esta canción durante todo el segundo tiempo de Argentina-Alemania en México 86! Qué manera de sufrir! Pero al final haber ganado ese mundial fue la cosa más cercana al cielo! No me olvido más de esta canción!
How’s this for spookiness the other day at work they played this on the radio I was singing it all day got home playing it on Alexa and later on my Twitter I got a notification “the Kane gang following you”
Music at its highest quality. God how I wish that I could turn back the clock to the 80's when Music and life was so much better 😪

Was in a Tesco in Inverness and heard this on the speaker.... Got a shiver down my spine, what a tune!🇯🇲
This song and group were massively underrated. What a voice Martin Brammer has....
Sublime !!!!!!!!
So old school and great !
Estoy de acuerdo contigo, está y tantas otras buenas bandas que no tuvieron la relevancia que demandaban por su arte.
Bramber went on to write for many household names including big stars such as Tina Turner.......a huge talent
Beautiful song and beautiful memories of more innocent times past
What an absolutely fabulous song...remember it well...still superb !!!
Still listening to this in 2023. 80s was a great decade for music.
