@Not Alfie he was also written to be dutiful, the best general in Westeros, having defeated the Ironborn fleet, and with the most unfailing moral compass (until THAT moment). He also saved the Watch.
@Not Alfie his moral compass was consistently fair until he started losing the war and had to rely on Melisande to even the odds. Renly WAS a traitor, usurping the rightful heir's succession to the throne. Gendry wasn't his nephew until Dany legitimised him in season 8, he was just a bastard who couldn't inherit the family name and so wasn't considered a real Baratheon. Your comment implies nepotism, that because someone is related to you they should be spared consequences or given special treatment; Stannis wouldn't have done either. And did you miss the scenes where the wildlings slaughtered (and ate) civilians en route to Castle Black, the castle they wanted to sack, killing everyone inside?
Same here, D&D ruined and killed the character in season 5 though. The books Stannis is way more important as one of the main characters and the last survivor of the War of the 5 Kings!
Stephen Dillane is very much like Stannis in many ways. He seems cold, straight forward and brutally honest. No wonder he did such a good job playing him.
Stannis was the last great character in Westeros. Loved his portrayal. After his exit, the character development of Westeros went downhill. Just a bunch of vile characters running around doing disgusting things to one another for no good reason at all. By series end, nothing the other characters did meant nothing, if I am honest about it. Just look at the last episode. A new cast of villains to replace the old cast of villains. Sansa becomes the new Cersei. Women continue to take it on the chin. The wheel remained intact.

QuasarOne The fact he played the High Sparrow and saw him as a savior because it acted as a socialist might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard coming from one of the many lefties of the acting world.
@Not Alfie Well the idea is the the high sparrow is convinced that what he does is right based on his faith, is like the inquisitors in the "holy" inquisition believed that they were doing right things in the name of god. Also remember that his fist scene he was feeding the poor so....
He did? Refreshing. Good to know. In comparison to some "nobles" in GoT, High Sparrow is a good guy indeed. Nobility and honor did not stop them from throwing thousands of lives of so-called "smalfolk" in a pointless war for a rusty chair. Kill one prince in a fancy armor and they will sing songs about him for years to come. Kill hundreds of peasants in some village simply because they were in the way - and no one will write even a limerick.
Mayim's politically correctness bothers me. And shes wrong about it completely. Wait, she hasn't even watched the show and shes sensitive about it. The worst kind of ignorance...
Exactly she stared in a show that made creepy rape jokes. One she said herself about not being sexually assaulted at a party because she wasn’t attractive. Which perpetuates the idea on “pretty” girls get raped. Also the idea that the guys can be creepy stalkers and Harass and lie to women and sleep with them but can get away with it because they’re geeky and then being rejected makes them the victims when they are just shity people. I hate Big Bang and she shouldn’t be so hypocritical

@@celynjones1162 Pretty sure Daenerys burning thousands of innocent women and children was fucked up too yet people still like her for some odd reason.
The Stephen Dillane story boggles my mind. He was an absolutely perfect Stannis. Gritting his teeth, constant scowling, spitting venom at everyone, expects everyone to be perfect...he did an incredible job. And he didn't enjoy it one bit, according to all of his interviews.
He was a great actor, but wasn't a ig fan of his characterization. He was a religious follower in the show while in the books, he's an epic character and brilliant strategist.
Exactly. priorities are never straight in these debate are they?! Men are tortured and die by the thousands in Game Of Thrones this big grand epic medieval fantasy series, but if women are mistreated somewhat its more unfair on them? Lol yeah right, if we're taking about abuse or mistreatment of anykind? Then this includes both sexes without question end of story.
WhattaDay luckily Stannis and Shareen are still alive in the books. And Patchface May or may not be waiting to take her to the sea to marry a merling for them to rule over Westeros
Mayim's opinion makes no sense to me. She's never even watched the show, lol. If you are going to have an opinion on something at least have an informed one. You'd be taken a little more serious that way. She just sounds jealous because no one wants to see her naked.
Mayim contributed towards the IDF, an organisation that directly bombs civilians, but she has a problem with actresses more attractive than her showing off their bodies.
I don't like how the dragons were used in the series. Trapped in eggs for hundreds of years, imprisoned while growing and as adults, meaninglessly slaughtered, finally Drogon turned into a nuke before losing his mom.. Can't we get a little dragon compassion in this place?:)
@@sydnitheromantictaylor112 I mean, Viserion's death helped raise the stakes and show just how dangerous the Night King was and the enormity of the threat they posed (until they kinda forgot about that and made Episode 3). But Rhaegal's death was literally just for fucking shits and giggles. Completely disrespectful to some of the most iconic characters in the series imo.
While I understand the hatred for the women characters at times, you also have to understand it’s medieval times and that WAS how women were treated. It added to the realism. If they paid attention they would understand nearly all the women wound up in the most powerful roles.
@@sankalpsuryavanshi4788 No one on the show became strong or powerful because they were raped. As the other commenter said, you either have no damn clue what you're talking about or, like Jessica Chastain, you have an agenda.
It's a fantasy show with dragons. Medieval times, most people grew hair in places and had bad teeth. Very little about GOT is accurate and rape is not any more necessary to the show than medieval hygiene.
@Not Alfie just because something happened in real life doesn't make it any less terrible writing to use it as a plot device. People died from random illness in real life, not from their own consequences, but GOT needs to have a story and reason for the deaths, so clearly what's meant to be "realistic" is a pick and choose deal. Rape or fridging to push character development inorganically are signs of bad writing. The show does fine being non traditional high fantasy without rape, y'all defend it as if taking the rape away would ruin the story. I do wonder how eagerly people would defend it if all the rape happened to men and naked men were used to pad moments by insecure showrunners who think a lack of nakedness will make their audiences bored. But either way. Rape as a plot device, handled and treated as nothing more than sexual violence to be ogled at, is a failing of writing. Laziness at best, maliciousness at worst. It's always a choice to include it without bothering to address it properly, and that choice is called shitty writing.
I am just here to defend Stephen Dillane ( Stannis) he may think He done a terrible performance as Stannis...but in the opposite! It was perfect...even tho with these circumstances. If anybody wants to judge him for only joining the show for the money...well you should ask yourself something...would you do a job without getting paid? That’s what a job is about 😂. He took it serious even tho he didn’t got the plot! #teamstannis

I still agree with Pryce on his character. The High Sparrow is probably one of the best and the honestly good characters on the series, close to Eddard Stark. COnsidering you get lynched having an opinion like my mine, it gives me even further courage that the actor agrees with me on this. Also, doing something of low quality for the money is not a wrong thing by any means. I don't get pryces comment. No one thinks he was a bad guy exactly. The high sparrow was cool at first. When he put cersei to shame I was literally dancing. @Not Alfie They're no where near as bad as cersei dude. They actually care for people. They clothed and fed the poor. Their concerns were beyond mere consolidation of power. It was for people. Their problem was their zeal. They took some things to ridiculous extremes.
@Not Alfie No he wasn't going to kill off the entire population. The penance for sin is usually humiliation i.e. walk of shame. They could've killed cersei at anytime. So tired of salty plain Jane's throwing fake moralistic shade on other women just to hide their own jealous insecurities! The actresses who choose show skin and be proud of their bodies ARE WOMEN, TOO!
I have no clue why people who have never seen something feel the need to downgrade and dismiss it. If you watched it and didnt like it that's one thing but if you've never even seen an episode dont think you have the intelligence to speak bad of it. 3 of the most popular leads are women. And if she had actually watched the series she would know exactly what Sansa meant. Rape doesn't make a girl or woman more powerful but it does fundamentally change us from the inside out. We have to decide what we are going to allow our rapist to do, I decided I would never allow mine to ever think he defeated me in anyway. I was damned if I was going to allow him to win. I was never going to allow him or anyone else think for one minute that he broke me in anyway. Please don't speak for us because we can do that ourselves. And we do become stronger. 0:28 Stannis is definetly one of my favourite characters from Game of Thrones/ASOIAF. "Few of the birds that Aemon had sent off had returned as yet. One reached Stannis, though. One found Dragonstone, and a king who still cared." And as far as I know he has a dedicated fanbase. 2:55 and 3:50 I think it should be clear that rape, as any traumatic experience, can have a substantial impact on a person's life both in irl and in fiction. So it is quite logical that rape could result in character development. It is realistic and maybe even lead to someone becoming stronger. GoT is not a didactic lecture about wheter or not rape is bad. 5:43 Working for the poor, washing people's feet and healing the sick has nothing to do with socialism. It is charity. Charitable work is voluntary action of a person or a group of people to peacefully alliviate lives of others and was present since Antiquity. Socialism is a political ideology that developed in 19th century seeking substantial change from private to communal ownership and/or forceful redistribution of goods as well as feuling class warfare and revolution. But I do think High Sparrow is definetly more of a good guy than most characters In King's Landing and I think people's hatered of him is rooted in modern prejeduce againts religion.

Women empowerment? If you try and be strong or do the same things that men do you are labelled as mad. You need to get raped and beaten down to become strong. And season 8 has taught me that women can't control their emotions. Great messages :)
Bruh these women don’t understand that this show is almost perfectly portraying how different our culture is now. Back then people saw things differently
What do I think about the final season of GOT? The acting was good, the production was good, the writing was crap. Season 7 and 8 should have been spread out over 40 episodes but D & D were too busy escaping to go work on Starwars.
I understand Mayim's (My-Yim) opinion but Jessica Chastain seems to be ignoring the fact that THIS HAPPENS! There's already a character like Arya who managed to become a badass completely on her own because she was a tough kid, whereas how Sansa originally was lead her to be susceptible to horrible men and the hate that these men riled up in her are what made her tougher. There's realism in that. It's not trying to glorify rape (other scenes, maybe). Going through any life-altering circumstances can either make you stronger or weaker.
Shhhhh ... dont tell them!!!! RAPE IS BAD !!!!!! RAPE ISNT CARACTER DEVELOPEMENT .... but i guess watching your fathers beheading is .... so "glorifying rape" is BAD!!! but glorifying murder and torture is fckin great!!!..... These people should go home and watch helo kitty, or winnie the pooh!
I love it when Big Bang Theory cast don't like the show. It's like.... Their show is utter shit and they just don't like the fact that other shows are better
Why does everyone not understand that the treatment of women is meant to be historically accurate. Its the realistic portrayal of what was going on in that time. Its not nice and isn't acceptable, but it is what was happening.
Am I the only person who thinks season 7 was by far worse? Especially looking back, it set up everything so that they basically trapped themselves in this being (more or less) the only possible outcome, especially the Daenerys storyline. Also: killing off Olenna. She would have made all of this so much better... Edit: Although I have to admit her death (unlike many deaths in S8) fitted her character and was pretty satisfying (Tell Cersei it was me.)
The reason why there is so much rape is because game of thrones is based on medieval time periods, in which law and order was non-existent. Women were raped left, right and center and similarly, people were dying left, right, and center. The reason for these events occurring in the books and the show is to depict these time periods and the things that went on during them. The depictions were not only accurate based on what we know of history, but well done in the show.
The finale is clever, the show demonstrates that monarchys don't work, Tyrion and Cersie agreed she did not care about the people, and they did not care about her. Nationalism ( thru a hegemony), does not work either which is what we currently have. So Danny would say when asked, "who gets to choose", we get to choose John Snow. They kill and conquer to take control, violence and men dying would always continue this way. We are doing that now, and does it work no. Sam Tarly suggested the people should choose who leads them, and they all laughed at him "should my donkey have a vote". That shows you what the leaders of the world think about the common peoples ability to choose for themselves how to be ruled. So why did the 3 eyed raven get chosen? What did the writers mean by breaking the wheel. The writers are suggesting a different kind of leadership now. Leadership from someone who does not really want it but who knows the history of men? Someone who represents one who was broken? The best story that has brought people together is the story of Christ and the representative is the Church. I think they are suggesting that the POPE should sit with the leaders of the world and the Pope should be the worlds new form of Government??? Hmmmm maybe???
0_o you may be right about what D&D were trying to accomplish. But if you are right, it explains a whole lot about why the ending fell flat. Darth Cersei pretty much squashed that idea when she blew up the High Sparrow and every religious figure in KL. And the Europeans killed that little social experiment irl over the last 400 years or so. Separation of church and state. Look it up. It's possible D&D are rlly dumb enough to use the show as a vehicle to preach such absurd nonsense. But it's aboutt the farthest thing from a plausible "happily ever after" for Westeros that anyone could dream up.
Mayim raised great points, as Gleeson also said, and she's right they put naked women in the middle of the scenes just to what? Male gaze? Most of them are unnecessary. They use rape as a plot points also correct. It's literally in the 1st ep! Khal Drogo raped Dany, Ramsay raped Sansa. Both of them are non existence in the book. Come on ossa, at least you also research about that too. There's a reason why many criticize this part of the show.
It’s not rape but the situation that you experience makes you stronger. Sansa is true for what she said. Tho I don’t think they hate the show they just don’t agree. There’s a difference.
Mayim Bialy is a politically correct joke and displays her ignorance commenting on a show she hasn't seen. Arya, Brienne, Lady Olenna, Cersei, Dany, Lady Stark, Melisandre, Ygrette, and a half dozen more -all strong female characters. She should try watching the show before judging it.
The Big Bang theaory also sexualizes Women , the blond one is looked at as the “typical girl next door” she’s dumb and everything so I have no idea what she’s even talking about
Seriously. from Catelyn, Sansa, Arya, Cersi, Yara, Brienne, Melisandre, even little Lyanna Mormont and of course Daenerys. All of these female roles were very strong characters with real power. Yes bad things happened to them. It's a TV show based in a fantasy dark ages. What the hell where they supposed to do? Pretend the GOT universe is a modern PC culture?
I think some of the complaints are coming from a social justice standpoint, but I do agree that there's unnecessarily large amounts of sexual material and gore that are way beyond what the books include and why. I feel as if D&D were going for shock value rather than actual substance and we see how that turned out. If they had literally and figuratively not fleshed it out with tantalizing crap and given us *the* story, they'd have been able to end it better even still not having the books. And I mean they as in legitimate producers interesting in producing quality product, not the two idiots who wanted to line their pockets. D&D took a major crap on the fans (who are the reason why they made so much money), the actors who had to turn straw in gold with those scripts (and more like crap into gold), and GRRM himself. George has been far too gracious with this whole thing and when he says that "well it's all fiction, it doesn't matter if it's one way in this medium and another in this other one" he's partly consoling himself because this experience *has* been traumatizing. George you are the author, it's your story, what you say goes, not those two twats who massacred your masterpiece!!
Dr Thanos 97 he may have a claim...but the Baratheons are those with THE claim. King Robert of house Baratheon was the last king ....so after him Stannis. After Stannis died and dany legitimed Gendry....Gendry is the one with THE claim

He could easily be what Mel Gibson was before Mel turned into a psycho drunk racist wife beater. And more. So much more :) I'd love to see Madden do another epic about Scotland, in Scotland, made by Scots. Those are beautiful when the right production team handles them.
3:56 - It happened to be Sansa's arc but the show never implies that a woman needs to victimized in order to be a phoenix. It's one way but not the only. Typical bullshit assumptions projected as fact when it's not. In Sansa's case, her strength is not "solely because of her", more mollycoddling b.s. It's due to the trauma she experienced. She would not be the strong, cynical type she is now had it not been for that. She would have remained a precious princess. And yes, rape can make a woman stronger, as it can also make them weaker & suicidal.
What? Sansa acted like a delusional princess in the first season and that already lead her to fall victim by Joffrey and all the Lannisters, which caused her to finally drop her childish fantasies. After LF's "training" in the Vale, she's supposed to develop into smart manipulator, who uses her courtesies as an armour. There was absolutely no need to victimise her like this again.
Being raped is one of the most violent acts that is unimaginable to those in whom do not understand the full violation of spirit mind body and soul..when you survive theses godless lawless loveless deeds you carry the mantle of judgment and horror pain your brow. People still think you done something wrong to deserve this vile act to be perpetrated against you...It even tests the steel of your resolve to believe in and love God along with your fellow man...The women even children both men and boys who have lived through this are my personal hero's not because they were raped but because so many of them have risen above it and are apart of our society in whom so many of them have kept their pain and fear to themselves and have not judged humanity as harshly as so many do having never really suffered at it's hands as so many in their secret hearts have.
What's the problem with rape being a plot point or a part of character development exactly? It's abundantly clear that rape was not the only reason she developed into the character that she did. Are these people trying to say that rape shouldn't affect a character?? Genuinely perplexed.

He did? Refreshing. Good to know. In comparison to some "nobles" in GoT, High Sparrow is a good guy indeed. Kill one prince in a fancy armor and they will sing songs about him for years to come. Kill hundreds of peasants in some village simply because they were in the way - and no one will write even a limerick.

While I understand the hatred for the women characters at times, you also have to understand it’s medieval times and that WAS how women were treated. It added to the realism. If they paid attention they would understand nearly all the women wound up in the most powerful roles.

Medieval times?! Rape didn't add no realism, it's lazy writing! GoT was a rapist dream fantasy.
Actually it isn't medieval times because this isn't a historical setting. It is a fictional realm.
Do they understand that it's medieval show, it's what used to happen. I'd say thanks to them for showing reality of medieval times!!
Some people can't get it through their head. Boneheads!
MRR D the point is the writing is showing the true and shitty reality of that world and what some evil people do, just like in the real world.
Technically, it's very late Medieval era but more early Renaissance.
I am just here to defend Stephen Dillane ( Stannis) he may think He done a terrible performance as Stannis...but in the opposite! It was perfect...even tho with these circumstances. GoT is not a didactic lecture about wheter or not rape is bad.
5:43 Working for the poor, washing people's feet and healing the sick has nothing to do with socialism. It is charity.

Stellice I, actually loved season 8 but thought season 7 was a bit stale. The whole hatred for the final season is an absolute bandwagon.
Dragons is the main reason I watched this show. Oh well, I guess there are two types of people.
''Stannis wasn't really anyone's favourite character on GOT''.
Bronn: ''Oh for fuck's sake''.
I think some are a bit jealous
Exactly. Mayim Bialik is jealous of thin beautiful girls. Obvious.
The Big Bang theaory also sexualizes Women , the blond one is looked at as the “typical girl next door” she’s dumb and everything so I have no idea what she’s even talking about
Now everybody hates Game of Thrones, thanks to Benioff and Weiss. 👎
Mayim, I've never seen so many strong female characters in one show as on GoT!
Seriously. from Catelyn, Sansa, Arya, Cersi, Yara, Brienne, Melisandre, even little Lyanna Mormont and of course Daenerys.
Stannis is no ones fav? Since when? He’s the one true king!
Jon is.
Dr Thanos 97 he may have a claim...but the Baratheons are those with THE claim. King Robert of house Baratheon was the last king ....so after him Stannis. After Stannis died and dany legitimed Gendry....Gendry is the one with THE claim
Fantasy haters, progressive zealots and drama queens... sad.
Of course they did it partly for the money. It's their job, thank goodness he's amazing at his work.
Charles Dance learned about his death scene from a fan due to not reading the books which he couldn’t pick up because, “they’re that thick! They’re rather frightening,”
Who is Cara Delevigne?
That lesbian model/actress
@@zomnen thx man. First time i hear for her.
@@ryakenisagod is that really necessary?
A model/actress. Not a huge fan of her tho
She's a pedigreed twat with a super rich family who made it on their name, and her looks. She does a mediocre Amy Winehouse ripoff, beatboxes, posts on Instagram, and and models thongs. Apparently, she was in Suicide Squad, but I can't for the life of me remember which character she played. I'm pretty sure she'll go the way of Barbi Benton and Samantha Fox as soon as she starts to age. She has about half the talent Christina Applegate and Pam Anderson have. *~ shrugs ~*
Madden on the other hand... just wow.
There was absolutely no need to victimise her like this again.
stannis was my favorite
Jessica Chastain isn't smart enough to have an opinion about...well anything.
Aside the Big Bang Theory Actress who destroyed the series without watching it, literally none of the others said they "can't stand" the GoT.
If u haven't watched it then u don't get an opinion amy
Go cry in the corner gabriel.
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849sorry i don't take requests 🖕
What's the problem with rape being a plot point or a part of character development exactly? It's abundantly clear that rape was not the only reason she developed into the character that she did. Are these people trying to say that rape shouldn't affect a character??
Genuinely perplexed.
Bunch of feminists and socialists don't like it? Makes me like it even more.
I’m both of those and I love GOT. Hated the ending though.
Hell, I'll cut my own balls off to own the libs!! Amirite?!?!🙃
@Thievius333 - What are you? Some sort of conservative nutjob?
@@robertpolanco1973
So if some1 hates the braindamaged feminists, he must be a coservative nutjob?
I am a classical liberal and i too fckin hate them ... so ..
@@robertpolanco1973 Yes, I'm a "nutjob" who believes in liberty and freedom for the individual, not identity politics. Sounds like I walked into your little leftist bubble/safespace. Btw, I've no problem with classic liberals, at least they still believe in free speech.
"Stannis wasn't anyone's favorite character"
Shows what you know. He's everyone's favorite.
Seriously Lucy Lawless!!! Playing a warrior princess fighting mythical demons or being a promiscuous wife on Spartacus isn't too far from being on a show with dragons. Most likely it's because you didn't pass the audition!!! LOL😂😂🤣
All these middle aged actresses throwing shade
@@ElanaVital83 4 real. Jealous much? LOL 😂😂😂
That was funny indeed :P I think she was bummed she didn't get in :P (or she changed since Xena and Spartacus. She loved the show and playing Xena but I can also see that it could be a bit tidious for her to keep being connected to it even almost 25 years later)
I love Lucy Lawless, I still do, but this was indeed funny :P She's a very nice person in real life. I met her at a Xena convention in 2015 :)
Saying that GOT doesn't have strong female characters just shows that she didn't watch the show. Two of the mains females in the show Dany and Sansa have a liberation ark, and get independence
Way worse stuff happens to men on this show than the women....give me a break. It is the kind of show it is.
So your having a competition over who went thru worst? Oh it was just rape, at least they got to live? Is that how you feel? I don't agree with Mayim but I also don't like you comparing one's pain over another! All the characters went through shit!
To be fair, Theon had it the worst. Hands down.
Lot's of awful stuff happened though, imagine your dad having you burned alive like Stannis did to his daughter.
@@vanessaives5546
Well mate ...
1 torture and murder ARE way worse than rape (otherwise you couldnt threath people into rape by torture or threat of killing them)
2 It is fckin annoying hear the cry of these brainwashed feminist whine abought a rape witch wasnt even showed, but i didnt hear any fckin complaint when teon go tortured the fck out of him!
Its a fckin TV show for adults, and the horrors of the human existance is part of it ... deal with it, or watch cartoon network!
@@haverjamarosi680 I think people are very hypocritical to outcry the later season rapes (which I agree weren't really shown) when s1 had Daenerys get stripped naked & molested & raped in multiple scenes with no complaint from fans. The very first episode she was sold as a sex slave and fans glossed over it.
@@thisishowitallends9321 How smart to wish for a person to get raped as a comeback. If you want to argue, make a valid point instead of 'You call me stupid? Your whole family is stupid'.
If you think stating murder being more brutal than death is bad, your reply to it is even worse.
Mayim Bialik's complaints are valid. They do use naked women as wallpaper, and rape is used too casually as a plot point.
I hate the last season GoT it was a huge letdown.
