Good work Judy! It really helped me to read chronologically through last year as both a new year’s resolution and a personal goal- i’ve always wanted to read it but its intimidating (I never read a book this big before). It was only in October, while starting the New Testament, that I started taking notes as I read. This year I started over and am taking notes daily for myself. I wasn’t planning on reading it through again but it kinda became a part of me somehow and its part of my day. Write something down for yourself later. You’ll be glad you did. You might get a lot out of it. Remember God works!

Here’s what’s difficult: Job is innocent, and his friends have misjudged him and oversimplified the way God made the world with injustices and suffering built in. Yet Job has something to learn by suffering through injustice. Needing to learn through injustice when you don’t deserve it seems itself unjust, and yet we see God closer and clearer when we yield to His ways.

I learned the hard and shocking way, that my elders are NOT always full of wisdom when I was a young adult. Experience and age does not always bring wisdom. God is the giver of wisdom period.

Through all of this, I can appreciate Elihu’s patience in just sitting and watching, wanting to be careful and thoughtful about his words, worrying about his age and if his thoughts will be heard or not, and trying to offer his perspective on these matters. I do believe he is correct when he says it doesn’t matter the age, wisdom is a gift from God… and I’ve seen that. I’ve encountered many who are younger than me who are “wise beyond their years” in their faith and wisdom. I always tease that “I want to be just like them when I grow up” even though they’re younger. I’m challenged because Elihu seems pretty arrogant and maybe snobbish, but there are tidbits I can appreciate.
I appreciate how Elihu also says that he’s going to say his own perspective based on what he understands and that he maintains an upright heart, and Job shouldn’t fear him because he is just a spokesman and essentially not Job’s judge (that’s how I interpreted it).
I also appreciated the statements from Elihu that reminds us of God’s sovereignty, His knowledge, how He hears the cries of the afflicted, and His omnipotency.
Of course trying to understand all this, and knowing if Elihu was right in what he was saying or if he, too, was trying to take control- I don’t know. There are lots of good reminders in these pages that Elihu points out and ultimately, it/he reminds me that God is sovereign. God is good. God knows and sees. He hears us and He knows the end game, just like TLC mentioned.
This book also challenges me to stay quiet on matters that I don’t really know when friends share their hearts because I tend to want to be a fixer. A peace maker. A facilitator, even, when I feel like there’s miscommunication… however, instead of trying to solve their problem or offer them the “why” it could be happening, really just sit back and pray with them, process with them, and try to encourage one another to trust that He knows what’s going on.
    Great is thy faithfulness, O God, my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with thee.
    Thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
As thou hast been, thou forever wilt be.
    Great is thy faithfulness,
    Great is thy faithfulness,
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
    All I have needed thy hand hast provided;
    Great is thy faithfulness,
    Lord unto me.

Elihu reminds me of me when I really get going on something I feel passionate about. Fortunately, it doesn't happen all the time. I had a Sunday school member who used to smile on these occasions and say, "Here we go!" (Ha!) I wonder if Elihu's friends felt the same way. 😇

Elihu, who is the youngest, speaks. He says that because they are older and he is younger, he is the reason he held his tongue; but, he was disappointed because he thought they would speak with wisdom because of their age. After being quiet and listening, he decided that he would speak his opinion. In Job 33:15, Elihu says that God speaks to us in dreams sometimes when we constantly miss out on what He's saying to us when we're awake. This encourages me to always listen to the voice of God and to understand the different ways He speaks.

So glad you are back, Viki. You make me think of things I haven't thought about in a long time. So, without really knowing your situation and at the risk of seeming like one of Job's friends, I'll share. Be careful what you pray for and how you pray. Oswald Chambers had a friend who had the gift of tongues, and prayed that God would give him the gift of tongues as well. O.C. said God didn't speak to him again for four years. I can't imagine going four years without any communication from the Holy Spirit. O.C. said he never presumed upon God again--or coveted a gift that was not his. Just saying.
I know we all want our relatives to have a true God experience, but everyone's experience is different. Our God is very creative and usually doesn't approach different people in the same way.
None of this may apply to your situation at all, but I found it to be an interesting story.

Oops❣️ I haven’t posted the last couple days .. partly because I started over so I could the BRecap with a younger Brother-in-Christ .. Anyway .. love me or not .. I’m here now😌.. & here goes ..
    Wisdom , yes , from God ..
.. Understanding , always to turn turn turn it over to and worship God ..
Turn from your bible knowledge ..
.. for if I don’t turn , I could possibly getting colder and colder , as my burning coal distances from the hot fire of God’s truth .. look at the Pharisee !
.. for if I don’t turn , I could find sin crouching at my door and be completely powerless to combat it .. why ? .. because again I didn’t turn and I am but farther yet in my addictions .. from God ..
.. for if I don’t turn , I could find I traded in my calling in for a bowl of lentil stew , like Esau ..
So turn Wayne , from your wicked ways ..
.. ways of being puffed up in your bible understanding ( instead of turning and worshipping like the true worshiper that we are in-Christ ) ..
.. ways of filling your lust with your addictions ( instead of turning and laying them down at the cross ) ..
.. ways of selling off your birth rights in Christ .. these wonderful provisions for a carnal life .. squandering your freedom like so many of the Hebrews that Moses helps free from the slavery of Egypt .. This Egypt we live in today is even all the more deceptive in what it offers to steal , kill , and destroy ( instead of Jesus ).

Job is an excellent example of the fact that we are character’s in God’s story. Job’s suffering is literally the result of YHWH making a cosmic bet that this adversary cannot get Job to curse Him. YHWH knows how this will play out, or course, and Job gets the honor to serve Him in this way whether Job knows it or not. Sometimes our suffering might simply be to honor God and shame the adversary.

Elihu is such an interesting Character. Honestly, as human as this story is, Elihu letting his emotions get the best of his judgement and wisdom might be most human part of it. Elihu does have quite the wisdom for his long age, however his anger that we see in his introduction overtakes him and twists his words about Job. Elihu as well suffers from a limited perspective not just of God in this case, but the full story, he lacks some of the insight this arguement has because he's a passerby. He also indulges in his own knowledge with his anger because to his understanding there's no way Job can be righteous like he says because that's not Elihu's view. He limited his perspective of this situation because the story of Job didn't line up with what Elihu knew in his wisdom. I had a similar simulation to that not long ago actually with people who, while a heart I know comes from a good place, but limits themselves to their perspective as they limited it to one specific version and understanding of the Bible. However, like Cobble mentioned, Elihu also mentions the endless patience and compassion God has for us despite our mistakes. That's My God Shot, the fact we have a God that will give us all the time in the World to understand our mistakes and forgives us when we turn to him. We aren't strikened down right the second we sin, we're given time to learn and grow with God leading and guiding us through the highest highs and lowest lows.

    Job is learning through injustice.
His friends over simplify that there is suffering and injustice in the world.
They point to Job as the one who is to blame thus furthering his sorrow and misery.
Age doesn’t always equal wisdom, and youth doesn’t always equal foolishness. It is God, who gives wisdom.
It is God, not time who grants and gives wisdom.
Sometimes God brings or allows hardship in the temporary to bring healing in the eternal.
God plays the long game. God’s longtermality allows Him a vantage point that we do not have.
It solidifies God’s patience through us bc He knows it is all working towards our good.
A lot of what Job’s friends say about God is true. But it is the things that they say about Job that are untrue.
God will allow struggling in our life to allow us to turn from darkness to light.
    Deeper towards Him.
God isn’t always lined up with my desires in the moment. He can see farther than I can. He can be trusted.

This is a writing of conversations with Job and his friends but they are all in error on their view of GOD. Job and his friends are reasoning within themselves but their reasoning does not reflect the character of GOD. Every GOOD and PERFECT gift comes from GOD. Do not forget, Satan is the accuser of man to GOD and GOD to man.
GOD sent JESUS to show us the way and HIS way is LOVE. In reading the New Testament, JESUS truly reflected the character of GOD. GOD corrects us, HE does not torture or punish us. The atrocity today is, we take all the credit when things go well, we blame GOD when things go bad and the devil gets away with all his evil doings. Whatever you or your daughter need, JESUS is the answer. JESUS died for every sin that was committed and every sin that will ever be committed. All sin was taken care of when JESUS went to the Cross.
      Matthew 15:30
A vast crowd brought to him people who were lame, blind, crippled, those who couldn't speak, and many others. They laid them before Jesus, and he healed them all.
I have personally seen so many miracles, the power in the name of JESUS still heals today.
      Only believe 🙏🏽

I would wait until we get to the very end of Job. Where it will show that Job is vindicated ( the things that happened to him and his family) did not happen because of any sin being found in Job ( bc. none was found ). We could actually look at this way, that it happen to him because he didn’t sin against God, If we look back in the first few chapters, as to why this happened at all to Job ( God allowed Job to be tested because God knew what was in His servant Job and that Job would pass the test). But God did not cause these things to come upon Job. God is going to get the glory! I hope this helped.

The Sin Curse is real, and good people get caught up in it as well as bad. That's why we needed a Savior, and why God came to earth--the earth He made for us--to become that Savior and die a horrible death to buy us back from the Evil One.
I know that this post was made 11 months ago, and a lot has happened to you and your daughter in that time. My heart goes out to you both. Elihu gets so much wrong in today’s reading. People sick with cancer or some other disease didn’t get so because God was punishing them for something nor does God keep them sick as punishment. This is what Elihu seems to be accusing Job of. He is sick because of sin. And yes people’s sickness does have a cause, whether it be a lifetime of smoking or maybe they inhaled too many chemicals on the job. But it isn’t punishment and since it isn’t punishment repenting before God would do Job no good. But he does stumble upon something noteworthy. In Job 33:23-24 he says, ”“But if an angel from heaven appears- a special messenger to intercede for a person and declare that he is upright- he will be gracious and say, ‘Rescue him from the grave, for I have found a ransom for his life.’“ If you replace angel with ‘Jesus, then the person indeed will ransomed, because Jesus pays that ransom.

I’m also having a hard time with this. In your example, any good parent would take their child to the hospital for treatment out of love and compassion. Not doing so, so that the child would learn a lesson is considered child abuse.

I don't think Tara is talking about not getting your child the care they need. Your example is a bit extreme. If your child stole something or damaged something would you make them face the APPROPRIATE consequences of their actions like having to pay for or replace what they stole or damaged? You would not cast them out of your family or stop feeding them until they had earned the money, but you might withhold allowance or make them do extra chores or not replace the broken item. She is talking about appropriate consequences not abuse!

@robins9729 My example concerns suffering. I would provide care to my child. I would not let them suffer to the best of my ability. I have been suffering for years now with excruciating, intractable pain that painkillers won't even touch. I have cried out to God, and He is silent. Suffering for a time does sometimes teach you lessons, but never-ending suffering is cruel. I am sick of hearing people say that there is a lesson to be learned. There isn't always a lesson to be learned. Things don't always happen for a reason. I am struggling with suicidal ideation every day. Has God abandoned me? Does God exist? Through my pain I wanted to get closer to God, but reading the Bible through this series has just opened my eyes up to stuff I either didn't know was in the Bible or I just used to brush off like the fact that slavery is never condemned. Even Jesus told slaves to obey their masters.

@robins9729 I did reply, but my response has since been deleted. I guess my comment didn't fit the narrative. I wish I could go into more detail. I am tired of people saying that God lets people suffer for a reason. This is simply not true in all instances.

So this is kind of weird I think, but these recap videos kind of make me forget what I just read.

Try listening to the recap first then read the scripture with more understanding. (Like a PRE-cap.

You know I get it you know for the protection and safety and all that for the Facebook group but what about those of us that don’t have the money for it? See we’re just left out if you’re gonna do this I think you should do it for God, not for the money. And the reason I wanted to go to Facebook so I got a question. I don’t wanna call you out front of everybody, but I can’t privately message you. You said Joe burn sacrifices for his sins but it was his children sins. Maybe I’m missing it and if I am it, maybe you can help me out, but in Job chapter 1 verse one it says this man was blameless and upright. He fear God and shunned evil.

You are correct in that it doesn't say he sacrificed for himself. He was blameless and upright but not perfect. These trials, according to a study note in my Bible, suggest that the purpose was to bring transformation to Job's life. To point out that we can never self-justify ourselves before God. We are all far below God's standard of righteousness. These trials exposed the hint of pride in order to deal with, as we will read later.

They seem to just be randomly posting days. Earlier tonight there was a video for Day 27 covering Genesis 43-45. Maybe it's a glitch. (?) 🤷‍♀ We're actually about to be on Day 320 tomorrow. 😊
