This is still amazing & never outdone to this day. I was turning 26 during these Olympics & I remember it like yesterday. I loved the tongue in cheek choice of song and all these yrs later, still love Moceanu. My only regret is that I wish my life was like it was back then, now (& not due to age)!
Could not agree more with you! The current gymnastics last sassiness, artistry and carisma. Today we simply watch muscular women without any grace or elegance executing tumble after tumble without any originality. Indeed the best days!
Dominique was always my favorite member of her respective US teams. So much talent. And this routine was so entertaining and she executes so well. I'm glad she's been able to deal with the struggles she had in her personal life and live a good life.
I have to be honest, it took me a long time to realize the significance of performing to this song... Devil Went Down to Georgia... the Olympics were in Atlanta, Georgia... **face palm**
There so much joy in this routine, you can see it in her smile, her choreography, even in her run. I adore this and I keep coming back to it. This was easily one of the best routines of the Games, if not the year.
I love this routine so much. It may not be quite as complex as some others I've seen (especially in recent years as more emphasis is being put on tumbling rather than dancing), but I love her showmanship and her graceful posing after landing, plus the fact that her routine was choreographed to the music rather than just having music playing in the background. It's a really memorable performance.
The thing I like(d) most about her was her enthusiasm. On any gymnastics video, she is always laughing, grinning, and having a good time through the whole routine. Even when she fumbled on the Balance Beam and the Vault at the end in '96, she didn't cry or fall apart (at least on cameras). She picked herself right back up and went straight back into her routine.
I lived in Atlanta during the 1996 olympics but was too young (5 years old) to remember your performance. This was spectacular performance, you represented the USA proudly!
The 96 olympics coincided perfectly with me going through puberty. Back when all a kid has was cable tv, this dance was a godsend. Thanks Dominique. Also Spice Girls and Pamela Anderson deserve mention.
I must have watched this a hundred times as a kid on an old recorded VHS tape!!! I was 12 and remember this Olympics so vividly!! My friends and I had all of the 96 Olympic routines memorized!! Dominique Moceanu was amazing!! :)
You are very welcome...I was nine years old when the Atlanta Olympics were going on and I remember watching this performance and thinking about how easy and fun you made it look...almost two decades later, you are still one of my top inspirations!!
No matter how old i get i always remember watching the 96' Olympics being 11 years old, with the name DOMINIQUE wishing i could do a cartwheel!! lol this video cheers me up every time because it was so much fun to see these girls work hard and have fun!!!! i luv watching gymnastics to this day.
I remember this routine like it was yesterday. I was impressed by her artistic expression in gymnastics. The two Dominiques were my favorites. I really enjoyed watching the powerful performances.
I am the same age as her, and I was GLUED to the the TV during the '96 Olympics. She was my first celebrity crush! I bought her autobiography and everything! I remember being totally heartbroken a few months later because I wasn't able to go to the Champions Tour when it came through Spokane. It was like the world was ending - I had it bad for her! She's so talented and adorable, though - how could you not just be in love?!?! :D
My favorite routine from my favorite Olympic year. I love the patriotic outfits while the Olympics were held in the U.S, setting the routine to The Devil Went Down To Georgia while in Atlanta and she just nails it! Everything about it was so perfect. I remember watching this when I was 7 and wanting to be a gymnast so badly :'D
One floor routine that will stick with me for a LIFETIME! So iconic. Charlie Daniels I bet felt honored to have his song played at the OLYMPICS. The Devil Went Down To Georgia is a timeless classic. Just one hell of a routine. I loved them all, ALL of the Magnificent Seven. But Dominique Moceanu was my FAVORITE!! Her, Dominique Dawes, and Shannon Miller. ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸🇺🇸
i remember watching this when i was in 2nd grade me and my mom watched the gymnastics portion everyday it was on. she was one of our favorites especially her beam exercise amazing.
I just came to look your performance up. When i was about 11 or 12 I was in love with you and this was the performance that did it! My parents taped it...i must have watched it 50 times.
The thing I like(d) most about her was her enthusiasm. During her whole routine she is laughing, grinning, and having a good time. Even when she fumbled on the Balance Beam and the Vault at the end, she didn't cry or fall apart (at least on cameras). She picked herself right back up and went straight back into her routine.
Who didn't love Dominique's floor exercise to "Devil Went Down to Georgia"? I mean, seriously. It was just impossible not to like! Looking back, it's amazing how young and charming she was.
She found out later that she had a sister that her parents had given up for adoption because she was born without any legs. Funny without knowing Dominique as her sister the girl went on to also be an excellent gymnast as well.
I remember watching this live when I was 10 years old. I though Dominique was the epitome of what an Olympian Gymnast is. She will always be one of the greats. That Kerry Strug ankle moment though. That one was hard to watch.
Sonya Kou YES! Omg I know you wrote that 3 years ago but you said it perfectly!!! Some people say I am overly dramatic but you are one of those people who really understand...Those pauses between skills took energy and fluidity, exactly!!! And ugh you just put everything together perfectly, it really bothers me that now it seems to only be important to have hard skills, like you just stand there and do a tumbling pass lol, they used to take dances classes and ballet in order to have more grace and connect their movement into a routine....Now it is like they dont consider art and grace and dance ability and moving to the beat at all anymore...
incorrect, not all gymnasts took dance, there are always gymnasts who are stronger and better tumblers who don't excel at dance, and some are more dance oriented. And as far as it 'not being important' for the sport, it's actually part of the judging and is included in deductions if it is lacking.
What an amazing performance. Remember being 10 years old and watching this! She put on a show... fierce 5 are so talented but they didn't express this kind of care-free fun attitude.. they were too stressed out! lol
trained by the Károlyi's, mentored by Comăneci & beat US legend Shannon Miller for all-around Gold at Nationals a year prior at just 13 (!!) - she could've had a run like Biles 20 years earlier
She very well could have been if her family situation wasn't such a mess. Her dad was abusive and pressured her a ton. She had to get emancipated from them when she was still a teenager.
Im 29 now and i loved Dominique back around 94-97 until all the things that happen with her dad and bella,She was one if the best Gymnast ever but was over shadowed by Kerri Strug. But in my eyes she will always be the hardest working gymnast in US history!!!!
I totally remember this...I had just turned nine when it originally aired (I just turned 25 now)...I just remember seeing how easy she made it look and wanting to be just like her!!
"!Remembering!" tsk tsk...how could we forget! You and the "Fab 7" were untouchable...and still are..imo...yalls performances still have yet to be duplicated! Plus, I know I wasn't the only boy with a MASSIVE crush on the world famous Dominique Moceanu! =D btw, I was recently on a work assignment in Cleveland OH and about a week ago, here in Texas, I saw the story of you and your sis. Then they said u lived in Cleveland. I was like: "NOOOOO....there was my chance!" lolol Kind Regards Dom
Yep - just heard the great Charlie Daniels passed away and I immediately thought of this clip. I can't think of the 1996 games without thinking of her classic floor routine.
NEVER get tired of this! God bless Moceanu, she make so much people smile, she deserve all the best in her life.
One of my all time favorite routines. She had such great energy and what a perfect song choice for Atlanta. Makes me smile every time I watch this.
I NEVER get enough of this routine! I've loved it since I first saw it that late night in 1996.
This is quite possibly the most adorable thing I have ever seen!
This is still amazing & never outdone to this day. I was turning 26 during these Olympics & I remember it like yesterday. I loved the tongue in cheek choice of song and all these yrs later, still love Moceanu. My only regret is that I wish my life was like it was back then, now (& not due to age)!
I wanted to be just like her when I was younger. I loved watching gymnastics the mag seven were my favorites 💜 The Best days 💜
Could not agree more with you! The current gymnastics last sassiness, artistry and carisma. Today we simply watch muscular women without any grace or elegance executing tumble after tumble without any originality. Indeed the best days!

I have to be honest, it took me a long time to realize the significance of performing to this song... Devil Went Down to Georgia... the Olympics were in Atlanta, Georgia... **face palm**
I didn't realize the significance when this aired because I was only 8 hahaha
not only that, it was literally the first time anyone performed to anything except classical music. it was cutting edge, crazy, wild.
@@NewCaney1 This was not the first time someone performed to something that wasn't classical music. Not even close.
@@NewCaney1 so not true. Have you watched any competitions before this one? This was commonplace.
@@NewCaney1 What about Kim Zmeskal when she won in 1991? Her floor music was jazz.
There so much joy in this routine, you can see it in her smile, her choreography, even in her run. I adore this and I keep coming back to it. This was easily one of the best routines of the Games, if not the year.
this gets me choked up just watching it. i was 13 and it left a huge impression on me. HUGE.
oof, same, i was a little younger but i remember being so enthralled by the mag 7 and especially dominique
Same. I was 10 and had been in ballet for 6 years and I turned to my parents like....put me in gymnastics NOW lol.
One of the most memorable Olympic performances!
You picked the perfect song for that routine, and the moves you performed were so lively and sprightly
one of my favorite floor routienes. I tried to learn this when I was a kid&watch the tape over&ovrr
The audience loves her so much more than her teammates...
lol
The thing I like(d) most about her was her enthusiasm. On any gymnastics video, she is always laughing, grinning, and having a good time through the whole routine. Even when she fumbled on the Balance Beam and the Vault at the end in '96, she didn't cry or fall apart (at least on cameras). She picked herself right back up and went straight back into her routine.
I loved this routine. It was perfect for her and the perfect song too.
I remember watching this when I was just kid. I will never forget this routine. It’s what got me into gymnastics. One of my favorite of all time
THIS WAS THE BEST GYMNASTIC TEAM THAT USA EVER HAS HAD !!
I lived in Atlanta during the 1996 olympics but was too young (5 years old) to remember your performance. This was spectacular performance, you represented the USA proudly!
Still jaw dropping to this day. What a performance.
She was an absolute joy to watch.
The 96 olympics coincided perfectly with me going through puberty. Back when all a kid has was cable tv, this dance was a godsend. Thanks Dominique. Also Spice Girls and Pamela Anderson deserve mention.

I remember ER this like yesterday. This girl was one of my of printed of all time. 💯💯💯💯

She is such a great gymnast. Thank you for that performance🧡
Absolutely inspiring & courageous considering the pain she must have had from the stress fracture and other matters going on.
The BEST floor performance EVER!!! This gets overused today but it's appropriate here... this was straight up 🔥
I can't believe she was only 14 and 4'4! so amazing
Angela Gem she was 4'4 damn she was tiny, on camera her legs look long
But three years later she grew up a lot!
My 6yo is 4’4 😩😩
I remember this routine like it was yesterday. I was impressed by her artistic expression in gymnastics. The two Dominiques were my favorites. I really enjoyed watching the powerful performances.
I still remember watching this live...I went bonkers for this girl.
This was really fun to watch. Looks like you had fun!
My favorite floor routine of all time. I was 15 then and loved her girly routines.
One of my favorite floor routines ever
i could never forget .. its like i have this routine memorized cuz i knew every move you were going to do next .. WHAT AN AMAZING day that was
This is the most interesting floor routine I have ever seen. A floor routine with solid tumbling passes that ended in a flawless stuck landing. 🤸
I remember watching this performance when I was younger, it gave me chills then and it still gives my chills to this day.
Bravo dominique ! O sa ne amintim tot timpul de tine !
i was 10 years old when i watched her perform this and she was my idol! gymnastics is still my favorite event in the olympics!
I remember her. She was my favorite gymnast growing up. ^.^ I am so glad that people remember her because I couldn't find her anywhere until today.
she inspired me so much when i was a gymnast... i got to meet her one time and she was just soo nice...
I had goosebumps while watching this vid! She is amazing!
This performance defined my life when I was just 11! It also made me love the song. Miss routines like this!!
One of my favorites!
We won't ever forget!!! Made us proud!
LOVED watching this routine! So much fun!
We could never forget this...
Such a great Olympic moment
This was so cool, I will never forget it. First time I saw a floor exercise that wasnt performed with ballet music or something. Absolutely stunning.
This reminds me of Olga Korbut. Very similar movements and both so enjoyable to watch.
She reminds me so much of Comaneci. She is so sassy and wonderful technically.
One of my most favorite routines. Just had to watch you once again! Surfincybersis
One floor routine that will stick with me for a LIFETIME! So iconic. Charlie Daniels I bet felt honored to have his song played at the OLYMPICS. The Devil Went Down To Georgia is a timeless classic. I'd almost forgot how preciously and ridiculously adorable this routine was!!! What fun to see it again just now!
Extraño esa época, cuando vi las olimpiadas de 1996 en la tele, mi favorita Dominique, ame al equipo de usa ❤
love it! why cant we see this passionate fun routine in elite gymnastics anymore :P
Year 2017 now and I am 33 but still dreaming to become like Dominique. As I child, I really looked up to her.
Who didn't love Dominique's floor exercise to "Devil Went Down to Georgia"? I mean, seriously. It was just impossible not to like! Looking back, it's amazing how young and charming she was.

She was so fun to watch. Made the floor exersize a dance routine as well as gymnastics, no one will forget how great she was.
Wow. She is amazing. She is so dedicated to gymnastics it's inspiring.
Look at how darn cute she was! I was 10 during these games...she looked so much older then LOL
I remeber when this aired on TV. This rutine is one of a kind.
dreamcatcher75418 Does anyone know what Dominique scored?
I can still remember watching this routine and standing up and clapping in my living room! I was so impressed!

It was in America. What the hell do you expect. The home country SHOULD be very supportive of their athletes.
Wow she is AMAZING!!!! I remember when i did gymnastics i loved her!!! Still do! :D
Chills!!
What an amazing performance. Remember being 10 years old and watching this! She put on a show... fierce 5 are so talented but they didn't express this kind of care-free fun attitude.. they were too stressed out! lol
You were amazing! Flawless!
same here. I was 12 years old and glued to the TV.
the magnificent 7!! amazing!
Sweetest little thing ever seen in my life. And I thought so the first time I saw it. Our young Italian daughter was so transfixed!
The Anakin Skywalker of USA women's gymnastics. She was supposed to be the chosen one
I remember all the expectation that was placed on her. She really was suppose to be The chosen one!
trained by the Károlyi's, mentored by Comăneci & beat US legend Shannon Miller for all-around Gold at Nationals a year prior at just 13 (!!) - she could've had a run like Biles 20 years earlier
I'm glad someone else remembers all this as well! I loved her so much and was so proud of her because she was only a year older than me!
She very well could have been if her family situation wasn't such a mess. Her dad was abusive and pressured her a ton. She had to get emancipated from them when she was still a teenager.
Nailed the music choice #genious!

So was just so amazing
I'm not a fan of Moceanu, in general, but I really loved this particular routine. Even I cheered for her during this routine!
this was my favorite olympics ..i wish i could go back to 1996
So so wonderful
Domi you are so awesome
I was 13 when I saw this performance. She became very popular in my country after that.
Look how happy she was and how much fun she was having! Even though the US did amazing tonight... they all looked so miserable and serious!
The time when gymnastics was fun, beautiful to ser and had artistry. Now it is just acrobacy
I totally remember this...I had just turned nine when it originally aired (I just turned 25 now)...I just remember seeing how easy she made it look and wanting to be just like her!!
You are a legend
favorite floor routine of all time(:
Wow that was amazing

yeah she's my favorite!
Yep - just heard the great Charlie Daniels passed away and I immediately thought of this clip. I can't think of the 1996 games without thinking of her classic floor routine.
My favorite gymnast of all time.
