lol, that commentator just completely counting her out of this event from the start. Then Dominique pulls off an epic performance. She the lady commentator really should of apologized.
At the end she said there was a "small hop" and she needs to "clean that up" - it's rare for even elite gymnasts today to land without a fairly large hop.
Her series (handspring layout, layout, layout) scared the shit out of me to watch, bc, she had had so many scary falls on it. I held my breath everytime I watched her do it.
Andrea Jimenez It scares me to! Especially since no one was moving that springboard that she had used for her mount! I was definitely holding me breath.
You don't understand. The abuse has a purpose, not done for the pleasure of the 'abuser'. Like in the army, it's meant to broke you so you follow orders and do stuff that your brain refuses to do because it thinks it's unsafe. But that's how you win battles. "Abuse" went on in all winning gymnastic programs in Romania, East Germany, China, US. We don't know about USSR because they'd never reveal it.
@@trespasser121 I think it's you who doesn't understand. We're not talking about gymnastics coaching methods. We're talking about the fact that Dominique, among others, was one of the gymnasts who were sexually abused. Last time I checked rape and molestation of minors were crimes, not coaching. But seeing as you've brought up coaching - the fact that you think nine year old girls doing sport is somehow an equivalent situation to adult men fighting in a war is, quite bluntly, fucked up. "Breaking" is appropriate for adults who are facing life or death situations, not for little girls learning gymnastics, for fucks sake. Christ, even grizzled veteran soldiers have ended up with PTSD from that shit, so what effect do you think it had on a little girl? Throw in the fact that most of them were being sexually as well as psychologically abused and it's no wonder these kids were attempting suicide in droves. Find a seat.
Not to mention she was also competing on a broken tibia. She did not compete in the olympic trials just a month later due to the injury and probably shouldn't even of been allowed to compete in the Olympics that year. All her landings she hops due to that injury. I used to love the Karoylis, it's heartbreaking finding out what was really going on with these young girls.
Yup, Dom didn’t have the passion for gymnastics because most likely within that year, Bela ramped up his abuse. I used to like Bela, but the more I found out about how he mistreated his pupils… He’s a POS.
I did gymnastics for 5 years when I was a child 7-12 years old, in Guatemala. I remember watching Dominique on TV and admiring her. She was that famous back then.
First I've ever seen this performance and "scared" is not EVER what I would have imagined the commentator saying! I found that EXTREMELY distasteful - she looks well composed and performs MAGNIFICENTLY - it is 2020 first impressions of this gymnast and performance with NO prior knowledge is just pure awestruck at her skill, composure, and overall talent... y tf would a commentator say otherwise unless trying to hide a scandal by making the victim out to have a case of nerves?! That's DISGUSTING and I'm sure she's a victim of abuse even before I look it up.... This was a PERFECT routine and belittled by a MAN commenting on her composure and overall appearance at a 14 year old... Words can't depict my disgust.
What the hell is that opening she has? Yeah, it probably isn't hard, but it freaks me out every time, and I don't remember any other gymnast who did that. It should be named after her if it isn't.
I read stories of the girls at the Karolyis' camp, breaking into the kitchen to steal food because they were so hungry. He and his wife abused these little girls and then they were subjected to that horrible doctor Nassar.
A wonderful gymnast, who had the heart of a lion. She was excellent on bb & fx helping the USA win their 1st team gold. She did it with a stress fracture. There wasn't a cowardly or scared bone in her tiny body. Just too much jealousy from the commentator.
I can’t imagine the pressure she must have felt, because she couldn’t even escape from him into her own routine. Why would they allow a coach to interfere with her routine like that?
“Shin splints” is an interesting way of describing a 4 inch stress fracture.
yes and she is working with that leg and can't stay home.
lol, that commentator just completely counting her out of this event from the start. Then Dominique pulls off an epic performance. She the lady commentator really should of apologized.
That was Elfi Sclegel and she was terrible
At the end she said there was a "small hop" and she needs to "clean that up" - it's rare for even elite gymnasts today to land without a fairly large hop.
I absolutely love her mount!
Her series (handspring layout, layout, layout) scared the shit out of me to watch, bc, she had had so many scary falls on it. I held my breath everytime I watched her do it.

Interesting how the commentator says she looks scared and worried. Dominique was abused by her coaches.

@@trespasser121 abuse that 'has a purpose' is still abuse.

@@trespasser121 The American gymnasts were being sexually abused as well as mentally abused. Look it up.
Her beam series is incredible 😍❤️
It’s sickening watching how nervous she looks around Bela and knowing what he did and threatened

Also, abuse from her dad. He was a POS. She got emancipation.
Do you no I still look when I see your name come up on comments! Thinking it’s me! I’m Carys also quite an unusual name
Her facial expression after finishing the routine says a lot of what she was going through
Just finished reading her book. It’s so sad how she was abused. She over came so much.
I recently read the same book. It is shameful how much abuse these girls experienced.
Beautiful routine. Very Olga Korbut-like in that it is unique and inventive.
My all time favorite gymnast.
God, she really was remarkable. Steady as a rock.
I did gymnastics for 5 years when I was a child 7-12 years old, in Guatemala. I remember watching Dominique on TV and admiring her. She was that famous back then.
Holy crap she looks 8 years old lol. What a routine. Bravo!!!
She had excellent coaches
It depends on what your definition of “excellent” is. Google Larry Nassar and see if you still think the Karolyis are “excellent” coaches.
@@dibab.1755 Excellent coaches? Which coaches? Do you know what Bela did to Dom?
I’m mad no one moved the spring board
Me too
Omg right!
I was worried they didn't remove the spring board.
Me too!
Yeah that freaked me out big time
Beautiful she’s so young. She’s beautiful and full of Grace!
Dominique’s my girl. 💕🤸♀️

Wendy Bruce did it in Barcelona
Poor little girl. They never told her she had a sister. Awful parents, horrible coaches.
It’s crazy how someone is so talented can ensure so much abuse from trainers and parents
this commentary is so negative
right??
The lady speaking is so nitpicky!! Leave her alone! She's dping great!! You're so negative!!
I almost never watch gymnastics routines with the sound on. Absolutely unnecessary and frankly, dampens the experience.
She looks like a mix of Nadia Comaneci and Daniela silivas
She is of Romanian descent just like Nadia so that’s probably why also.
Turn 3- my favorite mount.
I love her
Love her mount
What the hell is that opening she has? Yeah, it probably isn't hard, but it freaks me out every time, and I don't remember any other gymnast who did that. It should be named after her if it isn't.
A move she copied from Wendy Bruce..92 Barcelona
Why should it be named after her when she copied it from another American gymnast
I had major crush on her when I was a kid
Me too!!!
I read stories of the girls at the Karolyis' camp, breaking into the kitchen to steal food because they were so hungry. He and his wife abused these little girls and then they were subjected to that horrible doctor Nassar.
Wtf is wrong with Elfie Schlegel??????
On a "fashion magazine"? Big deal. Doing gymnastics etc is so much more than being on a fashion magazine
Uffffffffff ese movimiento entrando ufffff le da un plus lo veo y lo sigo viendo hermoso perfecto

Yes it turns out he made them wear ear pieces so throught the routine he is in her ear.Read her book she hated them and rightfully so she was abused
I can’t imagine the pressure she must have felt, because she couldn’t even escape from him into her own routine. Why would they allow a coach to interfere with her routine like that?
My crush when I was 13 lol
At this point she was just living in terror of Marta, Bela and her father.
That starting routine she did was not new wendy bruce did that in Barcelona 92
Espectacular.
So cute
The guy with the nikes!
"She seems much older than 14?"
Maybe they were talking about personally and mentality wise? Just the fact she’s 14 and on her way to an Olympic Games.
The opening move in which she copied from wendy Bruce
Hope you're nor with TikTok!

high drama announcers.

She's Really Cutie !!!
announcers, so fickle. Its hard to watch with them and their shallow statements
