Johnny Marr was the only reason I checked out Modest mouse.. float on, very simple.. (for people who aren't the best) great video. (Bit advanced for me, I'm a lot more Ritchie havens.. root chords and strumming like a madman).
Thanks for the help. I too enjoy the song quite a lot. There are interesting harmonic qualities throughout and Chrissie's vocals bring goosebumps in all the right spots.
I licherally thought that I should learn this song two days ago... Many thanks! Cheers. Speaking of "the Smiths" - any chance of a "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" lesson - Johnny recently stated that it is one of his favorite Smiths song - beautiful chord progressions. New Subscriber!
Thanks @carolhutchinson5911 that’s made my day! If you’re a beginner have a look at my other Pretenders 2000 miles is a good one for learning. I promise more Pretenders soon and thanks for your kind comments and for supporting my channel 🤓🙏🎸👍
@@GuitarGary. Thank you! I've been trying the 2000 miles one and it was the easiest I found on here to follow and really helpful 😊 (I think I've got it, and play it awfully but it's something I keep practicing). Excited for more Pretenders and love that you cover doing Chrissie's parts too. She has such a unique way of playing 😁
Back again just to say Thank You! I'm still not great at playing guitar but have been practicing this and it final sounds like I can play something (albeit very slowly) but it's really inspired me to keep learning more and more songs and bits on my guitar. Please, please do more Pretenders songs 😊
Perfect lesson. Thank you. Your tele is sounding great. What pickups are in them please? Just an observation on the alternative chord fingerings you mention - on a studio session (more often at home these days) I'm asked to cut the bass strings on chord shapes because the bass guitar is already there. It lightens up the guitar sound and cuts through better on a mix. No great insights there I suppose. Also, I often find it's an easier shape to shift to depending on what's been before or coming next and if there any little fills between the chords.
Ah thanks Badger, it makes it all worthwhile to get a comment like yours. My Tele is actually a Nocaster Closet Classic, so the pickups are stock Fender Nocaster. Thanks again for supporting my channel 🙏🤓🎸
Thanks @har6236 and more Pretenders on the channel plus am going to do Kid in the new year, so please consider subscribing if you haven’t already. Thanks also for watching and supporting my channel 🙏🤓🎸
Great video again Gary. I’ve heard Johnny Marr talk about James Honeyman Scott extensively but he’s never mentioned Robbie McIntosh. I think Johnny is more influenced by Robbie than he thinks!
@@GuitarGary. totally agree! More Pretenders for sure. There’s so many hits to choose from. Show Me is a personal favourite of mine, another Robbie McIntosh classic!
I second that. And Robbie was about to step in as the second guitarist with Honeyman-Scott before he died. Robbie did an amazing job with the Pretenders.
I hope you don’t mind me mentioning that I believe the last strum on the third chord before you return to the open D has the E finger moved down one string-I could be wrong but that’s what I’m hearing.
@wcpm ha ha I still don’t understand 🤣 is there a part of the video at 15:25 that’s not clear because if so I can try to clarify for you. I hope you are enjoying the rest of it and I’m planning more Pretenders very soon. Thanks for supporting my channel 👍🤓🎸🙏
You're right, it IS perfect pop. Happy Bank Holiday!
You too Bisco 🤓🎸
