Hi Simon, Got a question on this song, at time 8:37 the song changes key from D major to E major. How has that key of E been chosen to work from music theory point of view? (I'm thinking as thats the second mode of D then that could be the reason but not sure exactly?) Thankyou.
Hi Rajesh, thanks for watching and your question! Something to think about first thing on a Sunday morning... I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that the music theory point of view never really came into the writing of the song. Shifting up a tone is a pretty common songwriting device in final choruses etc to give the song extra momentum. Having said the it's pretty cool that the bridge shifts your ear to Dm-A7 and then the key change uses the A7 (A-c#-e) to get you to Emajor (e-G#-b). Hope that helps. All the best Simon
@@SimonMorelguitar Thankyou Simon, that makes sense, I've seen that before in another of Pretender's songs called "Kid" . Where it goes from CMajor to E Major and as you say it does lift the song really well there to. That's cool! Thanks!
