A major reason I like your lessons are because you do talk about some of the theory and history behind each song!! Don't stop doing that!! I really appreciate all that you put into each lesson and how you point out the things unique in each song.
Love this channel Doug. You are one of the best guitar teachers on RUclips and I really appreciate your easy-to-follow approach. Thank you for another great post.
Thank you, your time doing this goes is much appreciated. Mate, this is a bloody brilliant lesson. Absolute perfect timing for me and thank you for making the effort to go into so much detail. As others have said, sod the criticism about talking, you've got a great teaching style and everything you say is totally relevant.
Hi Doug, thank you for helping me in my quest to learn to play guitar. You had never disappointed. I like to listen to you in your videos, and learn about the music that I like and listen to, and in the process I can try and play the songs that I love. Keep on rocking! 🎸
Right on time for Saturday morning practice. What a great job you did breaking down everything about this classic! Best lesson. Thanks very much for the time you put into this video!
Great lesson on Brown eye girl, like to see one Lodi too Take care and stay healthy, loved your lesson. Great perspective, and I had no idea that so much went into this simple 3 chord song.
Loved that theory info on playing the triads. One of my favorite warm ups is a tune i put together of walking down the G scale with chords starting at 10th fret. It dances around all over G. I bet when i play it plucking the 1 & 6 it will start sounding like Brown Eyed Girl Thanks a ton. Great work 👊
Thanks for this. Genius guitar part (on the original record) by Al Gorgoni - nobody ever mentions him, but there are a few interviews with him knocking around (some on RUclips).
Yeah on the electricI always did the main riff the HARD WAY ….I will have to try method two! I was doing most of the rest of it , the fills from the original right but leaving out maybe 10%….depending on the gig! Sometimes the song is not done that much. What has really thrown me off is one singer I work with wants to do it in E! Drives me crazy….thanks. I am glad you mentioned Al Gorgoni as the guy that played it, NY session man , what a fantastic performance that is.
First off. Personally I think screw'em (talks too much). It's called a passion for teaching, playing guitar, storytelling. Played this song all the time in a cover band. Love the lead on this song. Man that guy could play fast. This song would also be good for just practicing a person's lead work. Still my favorite Van Morrison song was Baby please don't go from Them. A good song to teach? Tupelo Honey.
Another great lesson I'm glad I got the notification and that's why I'm here the talking and extra Theory stuff is good to know also good for other people that don't want to listen they can go somewhere else you got set up just right I'm going to try to learn it both ways the technically the same and also have a campfire version with lot simpler and you're doing both woohoo I'm subscribed can't wait for the next great lesson super Job guitar dude teacher maniac
Great job btw. I could never follow all those double stops. Good explanation of Acoustic parts by Hugh. Think he used Gibson acoustics. Billy Joel Just The Way You Are isolated Acoustic done by him is great to listen to to hear his strumming technique.
"YOU TALK TOO MUCH" is just people who refuse to learn anything. Great job. (don't tell me you play that lefty strat !!) :) :) It's my understanding that Morrison hated that song - but I bet he was laughing all the way to the bank.
What’s the strumming pattern? DDUD? For instance! I’m a bit of a novice. I can probably get it with some trial and error but if you have it some would appreciate it.
@@12footchainwow then this guy gorgoni is a maestro too! mccracken on ram, completely well and the studio side of live and well is magnificent. creative, concise, musically beautiful parts every time.
Love that flippin' shirt.. but it should have in italics "except alla you tinnies in My fan club.(That's.. "tin Jesus's" to all the rest of you non-believers). 😅 Good tune.. good lesson, btw.. that bass line is one of my favorites.
I like music theory😂🎉 The more you know... ... The less like a republican you are. I like being able to watch your finger work. If you talk to much, I'll go back to learning from paper. Jokes aside, I appreciate your work... 🤔✌️🤟
Not meant to be deep or a serious statement on Christianity. Just meant to be lighthearted, maybe irreverent and immature, but innocent and not serious commentary. Just intended to be something to have a little giggle over.
Great video except one thing; it is really annoying for me and others that you credit Merle Travis for inventing the so-called Travis pick, when Elizabeth Cotton was playing this style before Merle Travis was even born. Check out her "Freight Train".
I get it, and why i called it out right at the beginning, and all my videos have chapters so you can go straight to the part you want and don't need to listen to any of the talk. Thanks for watching though!
No, not al all. Just some irreverent humor. I saw the short online and just laughed until I teared up. Not trying to be disrespectful, hope it's received as it was intended, nothing more.

Thank you for clearing up this mystery.
One of the first I learned from Van Morrison.
what a great teacher. nice.
Thanks!
I do that “second version” for the opening lick too. Just an easier reach. Nice lesson and great guitar licks!
I am sure that no one is interested, but this is the first song that I ever learned, and it was in 1967.
Interesting…

I read someplace it's a session guitarist on the Lead parts but you got the right idea with it 😊
Right, Al Gorgoni was a session guitarist at the time
Thank you very much, great lesson
Thanks!.. I like the explanations..theory and info about the bands.
Nice Yamaha acoustic. Is that an FG-160 made in Japan. I have one and has incredible sound
I only play by ear and for decades have always played it with a strum pattern of down, up, down, up, -, up, down.

How did Rob Halford say it I'm a heavy metal maniac hahaha
Awesome, glad to hear
Nice lesson!
12:15 That picking is very like Lennon's "Julia"
Never knew that about the acoustic rhythm. It's basically a Bo Diddley beat. I always played it as the basic "pass the pizza please" rhythm.
Great shirt!
Hugh McCracken was supposedly on Acoustic and Gorgoni did the Electric.
Yep
Great job btw. I could never follow all those double stops. Good explanation of Acoustic parts by Hugh. Think he used Gibson acoustics. Billy Joel Just The Way You Are isolated Acoustic done by him is great to listen to to hear his strumming technique.

Cool.

Same question: Can someone tell us the strumming with Ds and Us? We novices can’t make it out just by watching and listening.
3:40 That's called a Bo Diddley pattern or beat.
I thought hugh mccracken (who also played guitar on Paul Mccartney's Ram and BB King's completely well) played the lovely solos on brown eyed girl.
Supposedly he played the acoustic
