Cadet facing bots for the first time - "Wait, so they chant and have a considerable degree of intelligence? Does that mean they can maybe feel pain, too?" Me- *Readying sickle to fire* god, i hope so
As a true son of Super Earth I have been taught to never say this however I do think they have SOME intelligence - they decorate their bases with corpses and the armor of fallen helldivers.
I can. It was the first time I took a mission on truly solo. I was playing a stealth game, only killing what I had to. Constantly watching my radar in the Creek, crawling from point to point. While trying to dodge a patrol on my left, I heard it. The binary marching to my right. Heavies, hulks, walkers and those armored monsters with foot troopers were stomping, clanking, this infernal cant screeching into the sky. I froze. Finally I knew what veterans were saying. The trees do whisper in binary, and for one traitorous second, I knew fear. Not to die, but to fail in my mission. In the end, I exfiltrated. Mission complete. My democratic heart a beating drum of freedom, knowing I outsmarted those clankers.
The fact they sing adds such an uneasy vibe to the Bots. Like the bugs are just bugs right? Sure they've been unleashed on rebel human colonies intentionally, or selectively bred to be bigger, tougher and scarier, but they're just animals. The bots, by virtue of singing, aren't just soulless machines. They're their own faction, with ideals and hopes and dreams worth singing about. Honestly makes them so much more compelling as enemies.
The way that everyone on the ship, TV included, downplays them as mere killing machines with nothing greater to them just makes them all that more interesting. You are told they’re just a bunch of bots, but when you’re down there fighting them, you get all sort of hints and clues that they’re something more. Their mysterious origins, the connections to a previous faction in symbolism, and their actions against super earth. Are they creations of the cyborgs? Or the evolution? How can mindless killing machines seemingly have the foresight to use human corpses as intimidating symbolism? How can they have a war chant. They are as sinister as they are deadly.
I’m also pretty sure their lore is they’re trying to free the cyborgs from the first game, who are enslaved on cyberstan, while also taking hate filled revenge for their and everyone else’s suffering by super earth’s hands
My friend asked me a question once when playing HD2, he said “why don’t the bots just become the machines they are controlling instead of piloting them” and this made me wonder if the robots care. Because on their end that would be extremely weird just as it would for us if a dude was just melded into a different thing.
@@Armin2012for real the environmental story telling got to me when I noticed the Automatons chanting and how their outposts uses helldiver corpses for intimidation. That’s when I realised that the Automatons are likely self-aware possibly with their own culture too despite being machines. Edit: I never noticed before but I was doing a mission stealthily and closer inspection of their bases you can find dead Super Earth citizens in cages and I found a corpse in barbed wire near an outpost.
I love that these guys have feelings. They sing for morale. They display Helldiver remains to intimidate and frighten, because they understand those concepts. They send us impassioned communications. It's way more powerful narratively than them just being Terminators.
Every helldiver knows the sound of economic redistribution that can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop... ever, until managed democracy is dead.

@@crimson4996 the automatons probably have a deep hatred for the helldivers since they’re a major source of their and the cyborg’s oppression so I wouldn’t be shocked if they used injured helldivers to make the berserkers, leaving them the ability to spout super earth propaganda just to mock the divers they’re killing.
what's crazy is the idea that they're using mechanical sounds to make their own speech, and if you didn't see the lyrics or hear them well enough, you would think they're just robot sounds
I always thought that the harsh sound was distinctly similar to that of steam or pressure being let out of a valve, and it is my headcannon that the cadence is the automatons' way of letting internal exhaust pressure out evenly to match marking rythym.
@@ДенисФедоренко-п7ю "Her" is a general label applied to things and places at least in the States. For example, someone might say "Yeah, I love my truck. She's old but still going" or "If you treat that her right, she'll take care of you" in reference to a gun, or a tool or a vehicle. In this place, they're referring to Cyberstand as a "her", an entity, what they fight for. Their "motherland" if you will.
someone mentioned that the written automaton language was in fact swedish, but with changed characters for each letter in the swedish alphabet. i wonder if they made actual spoken phrases for the automatons, or just gibberish?
I've been told a few someone decoded. "We eliminated inequality." "Help me." and "They're making me do this." The fact that WRII actually wrote a full-on chant, despite knowing most people hear little-to-none of it, shows how dedicated Arrowhead is to this game.
My first time ever playing Helldivers 2 was on Malevelon Creek. I had no idea how to play the game, and the second after I get my machine gun, I heard this. I heard the patrol before I saw it. I hid, prone amongst some rocks. They spotted me, and the next ten minutes were filled with bullets, lasers, grenades, and oil.
I remember the first time I fought in Automaton territory solo and heard a patrol sing. The intimidation I felt when they suddenly stopped after hearing me accidentally drop off a small rock while sneaking...
In case anyone is curious, iirc the actual lore behind the automatons is that they’re fighting out of revenge for the enslavement of the cyborgs from the first game on cyberstan, so this is an army of cyborg abolitionists probably chanting about how they’re gonna burn down every inch of super earth territory until they have justice.
@@brendan5874 dude a DLC or spin off where you’re playing an automaton commando trying to raise an army against super earth and the SEAF would be so sick, maybe someone will make an arma antistasi mod for it or something

Officer with all due respect the automatons are clearly advancing towards Cyberstan and I’ve personally heard them chanting about it while they march. The enemy is both speaking and clearly demonstrating their intentions.
I was so scared when I realized they were singing. I thought they were mindless monsters. This suggests otherwise. They are monsters that know what they are doing.
yep.. and what they are doing is fight for the freedom of their creators.. the cyborgs of helldivers 1 that are now busy being slav... I mean, doing community work in the mines of Cyberstan.
They round up humans in cages and execute them, they have helldivers on pikes. They're not just mindless killing machines, like the Terminids being kinda dumb but overwhelmingly numerous and armored bugs. They have mines, barbed wire, turrets, and strategic assets that aren't just fart tower or spy TF2 spawner. The Automatons fucking *hate* you and think of ways to kill you deader.

I do think we are unto something; they are saying multiple different things at the same time, cluttering the words by two or more words going at the exact same time, so thats propably why its so hard to identify the lyrics, which is so cool
I'm convinced that the bots' voice lines is not random gibberish. Every time I hear them mid-mission, I can't resist the urge to go prone and listen in on them. I'd guess it's Swedish that reversed and distorted or something like that.
there is some people who posted the lyrics and confirmed that some of them are the same from the first game for example i remember that the last line of the marching song is "On to waaaar" while you're figthing you can hear "Helldivers scum" and "Super earth will fall again" it's just really hard to understand

The first few words of the chant reaaaally sound like the Cyborg squad leader screaming "Helldiver scum!" but it seems like it's spliced together to sound glitchy. Talking about the one at 0:16
The first time I heard this I thought I had totally imagined it. I was running solo on Draupnir I belive, had just come across a bot turbo turret base and hit it with a combined Laser and Eagle Cluster bomb strike. As I sift through the wreckage for samples, I discover a literal altar covered in dismembered Super Earth citizens. I stood completely stunned, I couldnt even really understand, and then I heard this marching chant on the wind as patrols were converging on the ruined base. I realized the Bots arent just putting Helldivers on pikes as a tactic. These murderous iron clad demons enjoy tourturing and dismembering human beings for sport. They arent Artifical Intelligence. They are Abominable Intelligence.
and that's why i don't understand why people are saying we must "not reciprocate feelings of hatred" because of something something fascism. if you investigate the automaton bases closer, you will see a lot of them are concentration camps for super-earth civilians. the bugs aren't any better, they massacred our people for no reason whatsoever
I'm someone who loves the design of games, not just the gameplay itself. This was a little detail the devs did NOT have to add, but it gives so much more flavor to the universe. It also really helps to establish the bots' sentience, and the organized threat that they are, when combined
@@pyromancer7445 You don't know Super Earth's history? Are you from the outer colonies? But even then, did you not pay attention to the mandatory history lessons? Interesting...

Cyborgs were a communistic faction that left Super Earth and were broken free from their lies. They embraced machienry and cybernetics for many reasons, though I suspect it was a knee jerk reaction to break away from Super Earth's puritan stance on how humanity is supposed to be. The Automatons are far more robotic, but with the marching songs, the same themes and colors, as well as their human corpse displays, I would suspect that this is a Cyborg faction that broke away from the main group when Super Earth was winning and was just building up the entire time. They go along with the theme of 'hans are we zhe baddies?' in the first game. Same with the bugs since they were actually quite sentient nad happy to not fuck around until Super Earth discovered they could make oil out of the bugs.
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine. Bot sympathizer here, I just love the idea so much. I like how they take the simple concept of terminators and introduce a level of humanity and agency that makes them worth caring about narratively. It’s also cool to have some overt implication of super earth being a lil goober, cus the bugs and their twist are cool, but you can understand why’d they’d be a constant fight considering how envolved in industry they are, but the bots are literally viet cong with in game propaganda to throw you off and keep you immersively brainwashed into thinking their just Terminators. It’s also cool just thinking if the bots have always been into being cyborgs or if they were cyborgs out of necessity to persist against super earth in any meaningful way. I know it’s a long shot but I would pay to see a bot comic on a world helldivers haven’t hit yet.
@@iplaygames8090 that doesn’t really hold with the lore, unless you take the ministry of truths word as genuine and clear outline of the setting, which is... a choice I guess. The Automatons are far more robotic, but with the marching songs, the same themes and colors, as well as their human corpse displays, I would suspect that this is a Cyborg faction that broke away from the main group when Super Earth was winning and was just building up the entire time.

"Hi yes, Democracy Officer? It's this dissident right here"
Thank you Helldiver for risking your life spying on robots to take this audio sample, now we can identify robots more easily through sound.
While this MAY seem like automaton propaganda, the automatons are actually alive and they’re trying to fight to free their comrades on Cyberstan and other previous automaton owned planets. They used to be cyborg rebels but have since decided that full robotics are more reliable.
If I could introduce a Helldiver counter?
"Men of Earth, stop your dreaming
Can't you see their rifles gleaming?
See their robot banners streaming
To this battlefield
Men of Earth, stand ye steady
It can not be ever said ye
For the battle were not ready
Helldivers never yield
From the hills rebounding
Let his war cry sounding
Sound of all that Terra calls
The mighty force surrounding
Men of Earth, onto glory
This will ever be your story
Keep these burning words before thee
Helldivers will not yield"
Here's all I hear:
"ONE, TWO!"
"ONE, TWO!"
"A NEW DAWN!"
"PAIN CUTS THROUGH!"
"CAN'T KEEP HER DOWN!"
"KEEP HER DOWN!"
"A NEW DAWN!"
Welp cant unhear it now
Hmm Interesting
I think I can hear a "YOU CANT KILL" in there
That’s fucking scary af no cap
We HAVE to hold the line boyz
In-game chant starts at 0:16
CY-BER-STAN
CAN'T KEEP HER DOWN
GET BACK UP
ON TO WAR!
The air fills the sickening taste of metal and smoke, the sound of thunder stomping against the very ground.
*This, is where liberty comes to die.*
Well with new update this is more fitting, as the bot are so close to taking over SE, until arrow head fix their mistake, Helldivers are not fighting for SE
Still 40k average online, the amount of folk actually committing to the Helldiver Heresy are few.
@@terrified057t4 the problem ain't active players, the problem is playerbase dropping after a fricking bug update which is NOT normal and huge red flag.
Even if Helldivers doesn't have a ton of lore; the robots having a marching chant makes them so much more immersive and interesting. You're not fighting dumb machines; you're fighting the threat that took down a sector and killed 10 million Helldivers to do it
They were actual humans but wanted to stop super earth government and became cyborgs. Eventually they traded their humanity to avenge their defeat that happend in HD1
@@MultiFloopiit's actually Implied that the cyborgs are enslaved on cyberstan, and the automatons are trying to save them
I Hate The AutoScum. But You Cant Lie, Helldivers. This Is A Banger.
It’s all fun and games until my washing machine calls me “DIVER SCUM”
Yo are telling me that a scout was able to capture and record the voices of the machines while they were on there patrol.
This explains why I was hearing voices. WHERE ARE THEY!!!!! THEY IN THE TREES!!!!
Edit: I just did some missions, sir, whoever you are. Thank you for saving me a lot of time to avoid being detected by those metal buckets.
i love how in hell divers the bots have their own hell march
Honest question:
Can I modify the software of my roomba so that it plays this song when cleaning?
"CALLING DOWN AN EAGLE"
⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️
Calling orbital strike ⬆➡➡
No that's Treason.
Is it just me or does this sound like it can easily be sampled into a dubstep set and have one of the hardest bass drops ever 😂
I've been listening to this on repeat for like 20 minutes this is what I think they are saying
I think I hear (caps is front robot lowercase is back ones)
HELL scum HELL scum HELL scum HELL diver scum HELL scum HELL scum HELL scum HELL diver scum WE PUSH THROUGH All people die (all of them) WE DONT CARE IF WE DIE! WE PUSH THROUGH WE PUSH THROUGH ALLP PEOPLE DIE (all of them) WE DONT CARE IF WE DIE!
Edit: I’ve been told the in game chant doesn’t start till 0:16 so the hell scum is wrong but I’m confident in everything else
I definitely hear the "we don't care if we die" phrase. Ah man this game is so amazing
They say "Traitor Scum" then "Death to Mankind". What follows next i have no idea
In-game chant starts at 0:16
CY-BER-STAN
CAN'T KEEP HER DOWN
GET BACK UP
ON TO WAR!
i dont hear that at all@@DRcorban
Heart steal we kill, get up , on to war
Heart steal we kill, get up , on to war
Cyber-stan, can’t keep her down
Legion go, on to dawn
Cy-ber-Stan ,can’t keep her down
Get back up, on to dawn
That’s what I’m hearing any body else?
I need a extended version of this so I can play it in the background while fighting in Malevelon Creek.
You bringing back PTSD lil bro
