Bro.... that video you did years back was the reason i started watching your channel!!!!! Thanks to you, despite still going with dewalt in my house, i knew to NOT trust the package deals and buy the XR level tools individually. All thanks to you. You probably saved me a thousand bucks by making me double check the tools i bought.
The 18v ni-cad 3 speed dewalt drill was a torque monster and never cut out when fully loaded. The batteries lasted ten years solid too. I miss that combo.
Yes to the extended run but the xr was also generally a heavier duty line with brushless motors and better components. Most of non xr are brushed motors.
Great video. I am a big DeWalt fan personally. One thing that keeps me with DeWalt is how good the customer service is. If something breaks or has issues within the warranty period they will send you a free replacement. My first and last experience with Milwaukee was after i had issues with electrical hand tool grips slidding off. Milwaukee basically told me to pound salt. I have never looked back and I have since spent tens of thousands of dollars with DeWalt and I won’t give Milwaukee a dime of my money!
I can see how the XR logo was confusing. I would say, however, that if the entire kit was brushless then it would probably be highlighted prominently on the packaging as that's a major selling point.
I also love my DeWalt tools. Once you are heavily invested in the batteries they pretty much got you. I own several corded DeWalt tools that I've had for over fifteen years and they still work great. I recently have been collecting all the 60V line and have most of them along with several 9Ah batteries. The six inch grinder is a beast. This is a great option for DIYers and off grid builders because it's easy to charge the batteries on solar.
Jesse glad to see your back! This follow up video is great! As an owner of Dewalt tools this has been a great follow up. The first video made me pay attention to the brushless choice when I upgraded. I still am using my original 18V tool set in my off grid hunting camp, and enjoy my brushless set also, because you educated me to the difference. Been watching since you put in the septic system..... As a fellow pilot, keep the dirty side down and the clean side up. See you at KOSH one of these years in late July. EZFlyr
I am happy to see the comment section back. The older brushed tools often have more torque compared to many brush-less tools. They can power through things by using tons of current/power but you suffer on efficiency and battery life. Brush-less tools will try to protect the electronics in the tool and stop that type of behavior. Stalled brush-less drill will stop while a brushed drill will keep pushing current and get hot.
For what it's worth I use old technology. The tools we had 20 or 30 years ago that were contractor grade are now super cheep. Lots of cordes tools and even some nicad stuff in my garage and lots of air tools. I am fine with a basic 20 dollar corded brushed drill for lots of tasks. The drive to have the best newest isn't important for me. If most houses were built without the newest battery technology in the contractors truck will several hundred dollars of tool really help me? I generally am fine with corded tools and harbor freight chinesium. One bennifet of not spending to get the "newest and greatest"is having extra in the budget to get the correct tool. I'd rather use a 20 dollar grinder with a 3 dollar cutoff wheel than a brushless drill with the best battery to cut metal
I’ve seen someone review this kit before and got upset. And I can understand your disappointment, but at the same time it’s very obvious what is in the kit and as a consumer we have to be more aware of what we’re buying.
I have NEVER worn out a brushed tool. I have a ton of DeWalt 20v cordless tools, I have for many years and have had great results as a full time handyman. Milwaukee makes a great tool and even Rigid are pretty good for the price point.
Thanks for this update video. I had considered purchasing that same kit until I saw your first video where I learned that the Dewalt Kit wasn't what I thought it would be either. This update makes me feel a little better about the Dewalt Brand overall, however now that we are full time RVers I had to make an executive decision on which brand to get for on-the-road and it wasn't Dewalt. Their loss is another brand's gain in my case. It would be interesting if you would do a brand comparison on some track saws since you might be doing that type of work in the not-too-distant future. Maybe the top brands will send you some demo models to test, and don't forget the 90 degree angle add on options if you do test some of these tools.
I’ve been a carpenter for over 20 years now. After having too many issues with DeWalt I switched to Milwaukee several years ago and haven’t looked back since.
I have used DeWalt tools but my go to is Milwaukee. I have a drill, impact and saw that I have been using almost 20 years, no problems. I have watched your channel since the beginning and was sad when you left without a word. So glad you are back.
Hey Jessie , I totally agreed with that video you posted when you bought the dewalt kit , it actually made me focus and carefully buy all my new tools , now I only purchase the newest brushless tools and only buy them one at a time ( ps the Milwaukee brushless grinder’s are fantastic by the way ! I’ll never go back to my old corded grinders unless I’m in my shop at my bench within arms reach of a plug 🤣 Thanks for the update video👍🏻😁
Most of my Milwaukee tools are brushless. However the brushless sawzall in both the M18 @ M12 are heavier and larger so I went this the more compact and lighter versions.
I have decided to build my tool system off of Dewalt… but the only thing I don’t really like is there lack of customer service and sale representatives. I have called them repeatedly to try to get a hold of a representative that knows the product lines to put together the tools and systems I need. In my experience then I am unfortunately passed off to retail employees of stores that are not trained on the ins and outs of their product or a dedicated position to assist customers in their purchase. I remember the original video regarding Jessie‘s purchase of Dewalt tools and the sly details he found. I am grateful for that informative video as it helped me try to open my eyes and be more particular. I don’t like to let on that I have an invisible disability and the support of a sales customer service specialist that knows the product line is a big help in managing what I need. With or without a disability then this lack of support of a dedicated sales representative from Dewalt is one of the biggest downsides that I don’t like about Dewalt. Being referred to their website to figure it out yourself, trying to screen for issues that Jesse brought up, trying to build a full tool pack out system that is integrated and works seamlessly between batteries, tool needs, organizational pack outs and etc is quite an investment. Time and money is important… and sending people to their website to “figure it out” doesn’t make me feel that they respect or value my time or money. I’m basically being told that I need to learn their product line and decide for myself. The last person at a retail shop (that I was not going to be buying from) was very patiently annoyed with me as I was asking him to spend a dedicated amount of time out of his job to help me in a capacity that Dewalt will not. I needed to ensure that all the parts and pieces that I needed were going to connect (thread on) correctly and that I wasn’t missing any parts and pieces that I needed to order that I might accidentally assume be already in my order. Unfortunately, I did end up ordering one item too many because this person said it was not included in one of the items I was ordering. It has gotten to the point that I almost want to flag down a Dewalt representative (that was on the highway) when I saw them driving in a Dewalt skinned truck to actually get some help from a competent representative that could tell me what I needed so that I can just go purchase it. 😳🤔🤦♀️🙄😒 Despite this… I decided to build my tool line with Dewalt because some of the best tools that I need are made by them and I’m not interested in jumping to different brands that don’t work together as a system. I can only hope that Dewalt will look at maybe a company like Schluter that has regional representatives available to directly support their customers/DIYers and contractors in their local regionally assigned area. I don’t expect Dewalt to provide the hands-on training for free regarding their tool that Schluter offers for their products and legal standards in waterproofing and tile. I have no incentive or affiliation with Schluter but as a company then I really admire their products, customer service, warranties and complete package of support. I can only hope that Dewalt will look at companies like Schluter and decide to make changes to support their customers better. Thank you!
Another great video. Thank you for letting us know that DeWalt got back to you about the issue you had with the kit. I tend to not buy kits of tools like that because you usually get several tools you rarely use mixed in with those you want. I try to find the Naked tools as I have plenty of batteries. I do prefer DeWalt tools. They have served me very well.
I was glad to hear you make the point that brushed or brushless makes little difference. One could well argue it's a marketing ploy to get you to replace all your still good tools with the "latest". As for batteries; I'm glad when one goes flat. It's a good excuse to take a well deserved break. I do have three batteries but the better half doesn't know that. 😃
Good information. Nice to know. Typically I buy my Dewalt tools based on need instead of a Dewalt tool package. I’m sure there would be tools I would probably get very little use. You are very knowledgeable with tool brands. Keep up the good work.
I’ve pretty much watched almost all your videos an especially paid attention to your DeWalt video you put out seen it multiple times I wasn’t happy with it at first because I have bought most of there stuff an still do Glad you did this video to explain more in detail It didn’t slow me down on buying DeWalt brand I just review each tool more closely I don’t buy the Milwaukee brand because I started out DeWalt from there old 18 volt to 20 volt & 40 volt to now 60 volt like them all Now I’ve really got into there 12 volt system at Lowe’s there all subcompact brushless Extreme System plenty of power & Lightweight Love them thanks for the videos
My employer provides us with dewalt tools 20v and 12v that we use occasionally. The batteries fall apart on both. The top yellow part separates from the black part and the cells fall put.
It is my opinion as Dewalt guy for twenty five years that Dewalt is slipping. My three latest purchases have been Makita which I feel is a step up after having used them for a while.
And the other gripe, do they REALLY have to make your butt bleed when it's time to replace your batteries???? I'm neck deep in Milwaukee tools and now need batteries.
This is more or less the same for other tool lines too. The combo kits usually aren't brushless and often lack a few features their stand-alone tools might have, makes the combo deal not what it seemed. The Burb Billy did a good video on this a few years ago.
The real "eureka!" moment is when you get a Milwaukee 12V impact driver and realize that you've been lugging around that brick for no good reason. Take it from a guy with six red impact drivers--the Torx, Phillips, Robertsons and straight bit go on the 12V's and the Vix and countersink bits go on the 18V. Two Milwaukee tool tips that are super-awesome, the installation drill/driver kit (the one with four heads) and the metal cutting circular saw. The Festool installation drill driver is actually better, if for no other reason than it stands upright, but it's twice the price.
DeWalt is the only company that puts the blade on the left side of their skill saw. I don't run DeWalt but am thinking about it when I upgrade. That blade on the left, "where you can see it while your cutting" is weighing heavily on my decision. I hate that I have to lean over my left handed saw to see my guides.👍
XR stands for EXtreme Runtime, all Dewalt tools have a cheaper version, if you want the best of each tool you need to buy them separate, you have to look for the top of the line or most expensive version, but not everyone needs the best version.
I never knew how much i would use the Dewalt cordless bandsaw. Should have bought it years ago. Most places that I would have used a reciprocating saw can be done with a bandsaw. Except much easier and more precise.

You've been back for a little while now, is there going to be more/new building content or just talk about tools and old videos? Also where is Alyssa I have yet to see her in any of the new content?
I to learned this lesson the hard way in buying large brand name tool kits - especially at big box stores. They bait switch tools. Box looks great but most are misleading. Just beware.
As always, a great video with great information. I watched the original video as well. Definitely made me look at the tool kit "packages" with an eye on what is actually included.
Well done! Quite well done! I do remember being careful about Brushless Tools a few years ago. Maybe because of your earlier video. Probably so. Thank you, all!
I did live in usa for about sixty years.. I owned a lot of dewalt tools. About seven years ago.. I did move to the Philippines... Every major tool company you can think of.. Sells battery operated tools in the Philippines. Most all of them are junk... Because everyone this company is making. More than one line of tools.. 1st world country 2nd world. 3rd world country. These tools are just. Trash.. I know most likely you will never run into this problem in the USA
Globalism. Same company owns black & decker, Stanley, DEWALT? Who else? They can scale up or down quality to their liking. Thus being a savvy consumer is critical.
Hey Jess I remember the original video you did on Dewalt so with that said they seemed to have stepped up. I don’t like getting burned by a company like anybody. So I’m happy to see DeWalt own it! Thanks for the update Jess much appreciated. 😊
Don't buy combo kits they put lesser grade tools in them. I buy 60volt dewalt everything. I am completely cordless other than my gas compressor and I frame houses day in day out
Holy crap, you turned on the comments!!! I used Panasonic 12v for many years and millions of holes of drilling, tapping and driving of commercial door hardware installations and never suffered an issue until my company changed over to yellow junk! I begged the tool crib to supply Panasonic 12 v drills to no avail! Sorry to see you all suffered from ass monkeys, hope you the best for the future!
Dewalt does make the best Milwaukie knockoff out there... and the takeaway, the mark of a 'good' tool company is their response to a 3m view video? please, keep in mind those tools weren't free to produce and their sneaky admission only cost the consumers without RUclips channels more money. Thanks.
The box doesn't say they are brushless...
Bro.... that video you did years back was the reason i started watching your channel!!!!! The 18v ni-cad 3 speed dewalt drill was a torque monster and never cut out when fully loaded. The batteries lasted ten years solid too. I miss that combo.
XR stands for extended run, that was their new battery technology
Which makes it even weirder that it's also on the tools themselves.
Yes to the extended run but the xr was also generally a heavier duty line with brushless motors and better components. Most of non xr are brushed motors.
I do not see anywhere that the kit says brushless?
Great video. I am a big DeWalt fan personally. One thing that keeps me with DeWalt is how good the customer service is. Thanks for advice! Its amazing how much you learn once your bring your purchase home.

Great info. Love DeWalt. Still use my 12V drills. Good info. Thanks for sharing

who would have thought a 5ah battery would have a "Extended Range" than the standard 1.3ah battery
Always a pleasure to catch one of your video😊s
Main take away is that you should always be careful with combo kits, in every market.
Great video. As always, thanks for sharing.
Steve
Glad to see some new content. keep it up. I'm also a pilot since 1999.
Grazie per i tuoi filmati e di queste informazioni😊

Hi. I've enjoyed watching your videos. Just wondering if you'll be doing the garden videos this year?
Good to see you guys back....with comments...I think we feel like part of the family/project...too...we sometimes have good tips...
Thanks

I do prefer DeWalt tools. They have served me very well.
When my 9.6V Makita drills died I moved to Dewalt. I stick with them since they share the same battery.
I was glad to hear you make the point that brushed or brushless makes little difference. One could well argue it's a marketing ploy to get you to replace all your still good tools with the "latest".

i like your analysis.. so this is why i have liked your channel for years.. its just plain good.
I’ve pretty much watched almost all your videos an especially paid attention to your DeWalt video you put out seen it multiple times I wasn’t happy with it at first because I have bought most of there stuff an still do
Glad you did this video to explain more in detail
It didn’t slow me down on buying DeWalt brand
I just review each tool more closely
I don’t buy the Milwaukee brand because I started out DeWalt from there old 18 volt to 20 volt & 40 volt to now 60 volt like them all
Now I’ve really got into there 12 volt system at Lowe’s there all subcompact brushless Extreme System plenty of power & Lightweight
Love them thanks for the videos
My employer provides us with dewalt tools 20v and 12v that we use occasionally. The batteries fall apart on both. The top yellow part separates from the black part and the cells fall put.

It is my opinion as Dewalt guy for twenty five years that Dewalt is slipping. My three latest purchases have been Makita which I feel is a step up after having used them for a while.
Great video thankyou for your viewpoint on these tools
And the other gripe, do they REALLY have to make your butt bleed when it's time to replace your batteries???? I'm neck deep in Milwaukee tools and now need batteries.

Another video......man I'm having flashbacks. Love yall!
This is more or less the same for other tool lines too. The combo kits usually aren't brushless and often lack a few features their stand-alone tools might have, makes the combo deal not what it seemed. The Burb Billy did a good video on this a few years ago.
Very good Video 👍 👍
Thanks Jesse for this video. I like Makita though. 👍😁👍😁
I've been doing the battery thing since the small batteries started.
I remember the original video! It was around december or Jan of 21 or 20!!!
XR stands for EXtreme Runtime, all Dewalt tools have a cheaper version, if you want the best of each tool you need to buy them separate, you have to look for the top of the line or most expensive version, but not everyone needs the best version.
I think the funniest thing is that Dewalt, Craftsman, and Stanley are all made by Black & Decker!
I never knew how much i would use the Dewalt cordless bandsaw. Should have bought it years ago. Most places that I would have used a reciprocating saw can be done with a bandsaw. Except much easier and more precise.
Thanks Former neighbor of mine. Glad to see you back. P.S. I love DeWalt.
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
Thanks for the tool tip 👍.
Pay attention to the model number.
lol!
well there are also gray goods. you have to be care full on where you buy the tools from.
buyer beware for sure.
also look in to the 60 volt batteries!
they will power the 20 volt tools at a longer run time.
nice for large impacts and saws.
oh yea they make adaptors for the new 20 volt and 80 volt battery to the old 18 volt tools!
Great video!
XR means eXtreme Runtime, for whatever that's worth in marketing mumbo jumbo.
You've been back for a little while now, is there going to be more/new building content or just talk about tools and old videos? Also where is Alyssa I have yet to see her in any of the new content?
That sounds like some of the dumb shit my old boss would say. ✌️
I to learned this lesson the hard way in buying large brand name tool kits - especially at big box stores. They bait switch tools. Box looks great but most are misleading. Just beware.
Yeah non brushless is definitely nice if you save some cash on a tool you won't use to often.
Exactly my findings! Honestly for 95% of people the non-brushless are such a huge upgrade from power tools 15 years ago.
I sure was not happy with Milwaukee I had a corded saws all very lightly used for three years and the armature went bad and they were no help.
I have tool envy
Hey, comments. Yay.
I'm so glad you are back. Thanks for your honest opinion of all that you review
XR stands for Extreme Runtime
I will stick with Milwaukee.
🙄
I like being able to comment
thumbnail cracked me up
As always, a great video with great information. I watched the original video as well. Definitely made me look at the tool kit "packages" with an eye on what is actually included.
Why not just return the kit if it wasn’t what you wanted?
Well done! Quite well done! I do remember being careful about Brushless Tools a few years ago. Maybe because of your earlier video. Probably so. Thank you, all!
I use Craftsman tools only and I have good luck with them and I won't use anything else
I did live in usa for about sixty years.. I owned a lot of dewalt tools. About seven years ago.. I did move to the Philippines... Every major tool company you can think of.. I quit buying dewalt tools when they started advertising 20 volt tools. That’s a generic brand scam to get people to buy junk tools.
Hey Jess I remember the original video you did on Dewalt so with that said they seemed to have stepped up. I don’t like getting burned by a company like anybody. So I’m happy to see DeWalt own it! Thanks for the update Jess much appreciated. 😊

THANKS AND THE BEST TO YOU AND YOURS...
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Don't buy combo kits they put lesser grade tools in them. I buy 60volt dewalt everything. I am completely cordless other than my gas compressor and I frame houses day in day out
Desalt is another name for black & decker
Holy crap, you turned on the comments!!! I used Panasonic 12v for many years and millions of holes of drilling, tapping and driving of commercial door hardware installations and never suffered an issue until my company changed over to yellow junk! I begged the tool crib to supply Panasonic 12 v drills to no avail!
Sorry to see you all suffered from ass monkeys, hope you the best for the future!
Great to have you back 😊
Love ya guys!! I'm building a shooting range in missouri if you would like to shoot at sometime. Always welcome!!

Dewalt does make the best Milwaukie knockoff out there... and the takeaway, the mark of a 'good' tool company is their response to a 3m view video? please, keep in mind those tools weren't free to produce and their sneaky admission only cost the consumers without RUclips channels more money. Thanks.
