Tohru felt SOMETHING when thinking Kyo was getting a confession. She felt SOMETHING when he said "it's none of your business" to her. She felt SOMETHING when she wondered "will he also let go of me too in that way". She felt SOMETHING when he was leaving her alone and so just without thinking grabbed his shirt softly. She felt SOMETHING on that rooftop when Kyo said "when you do fall in love, I'll be there to help you" for which she started crying. All these SOMETHING, the stirring feeling of heart ache is LOVE. Although she herself admits that Kyo's one word can awfully hurt her and one word can give her peace and happiness, her dense nature is still unaware of the deep love she has for Kyo. Those little bits of the episode made me quite teary. The animation colour and quality is just gorgeous. The soft guitar tune when Kyo and Tohru had their moment was just so beautiful. The way Kyo asked "WHAT HAPPENED" (in that soft, deep voice) and held Tohru's hand, MY HEART LEGIT SKIPPED A BEAT. He asking her to hang out was only a glimpse of how he just wants to be beside her so bad because he truly loves her. And OF COURSE KYO WOULD KNOW TOHRU WOULD BUY ZODIAC FIGURES. THAT'S THE DEEP AND PURE CONNECTION THEY HAVE. Notice how only the cat is hand made by Tohru (recall how she was always a cat year fan when she was young) and how Kyo notices she hasn't changed and when realising what she was doing so dedicatedly, blushes. Ughhh Kyo I just can't love you any more. My hearttt!!!

The way Manabe interacts with Yuki is just so important for his character growth. His and Tohru's relationship is also developing in such a beautiful way. She's precious to him and he wants to protect her at any cost because she gives him the warmth, comfort and hope he never had before. The moment between Machi and Yuki is just so beautiful, which makes me really satisfied about this ship. The significance of Maple leaf, Yuki's change in personality all are well highlighted. He's also aware of Kyo's feelings towards Tohru and just subtlely tries to make Kyo realise his mistakes. Yuki also knows that Tohru would think something about Kyo getting a confession, knowing how close they are and so openly said "don't worry, he'll reject it". Although Yuki still has many of his own insecurities and kind of still feels inferior to Kyo for certain reasons, his development and growth can be well noted.
Ps. I'm not a manga reader and all these are just my observations and assumptions.

The cursed members of the Sohma family do understand their respective animals, that's how Shigure knew where the landslide was in the first episode he heard about it from the howling dog.
That's how Yuki was able to ask the rats to help get the photo too! 😂

The beginning of the episode was probably the first time Arisa and Kyo agreed on the same thing. Shigure's wise words of romance and shipping has no bounds. It was such a cute part when Kyo and Yuki took Tohru away from Shigure. The old Fruits Basket vibes came back. This episode had quite a few funny moments of its own besides being absolutely BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT, especially the cat scene with Kyo and Manabe waking up Yuki. Hana offering Yuki food after he hit Kyo was also so funny. Love how all of them get along really well and were together during the trip. This bond is EVERYTHING and much to Tohru's credit!

One thing to note: I live in Japan and I’ve lived here the past almost 5 years now. And souvenir buying is SO important in Japan and it’s different from the States or other places. Because normally when you think of buying a souvenir it’s usually a second thought and it’s usually for yourself or maybe a close friend or family member or something. But in Japan, it’s more of an expectation to give to friends or classmates and family members. It’s really a big deal and so much more common then the States. And it’s usually based on the prefectures’ locally famous snack. Like rice cakes or pastry, and less of other things.
Just a little FYI.
finally a happy episode. and yet i still teared towards the end, that kyo bit seeing the cat jyunishi figurines that tohru made. damn. and the animation of the background, the sceneries was just beautiful...😬

Early Happy Birthday!!!! This is the episode I've been waiting for!! It's sooo good! I'm glad they included the cat scene, LOL! This makes me want to visit Kyoto even more now, just gorgeous!!! Episode 9 and 17 are officially my favorites.
Watching this ep I felt like my heart grown 3 times bigger haha Everything was so beautiful and funny and lighthearted and still have the feels and growth. So mesmerizing to see.Being able to see one of my favs moments animated is just *_*

Just wanna say happy early birthday and I really love ur reactions tbh I wait every Monday for this episode and ur reactions cause even tho I'm watching it two times it still feels new hearing ur take on scenes I really love this show/series im an anime only and I just wanna say this series made me feel things no other series makes me feel the first time i cried from this was season 1 ep 24 and that made me seriously ugly cry seeing as kyo is my favorite character it really hit me before this Assassination classroom made me shed a tear but not really cry no anime has ever made me do that except fruits basket and trust me i watch a lot of anime ever since ep 24 I cried so many times throughout this season and without a doubt I can say fruits basket is my favorite romance series also i just wanna say re watching these episodes with you made me also cry again and sometimes cry to parts that I didn't originally cry on the first time i watched it anyways just wanna say thank you for amazing content

It’s one magical episode which I have the wonderful memories when I see Tohru and her gang just taking in the sights of Kyoto which is comforting like a herring soba,I also love the chaotic part with Manabe pushing Yuki buttons and he can be a morning alarm to wake up Yuki from his sleep.its a sweet palate cleanser with some comedic gold from the sad.Darn it Flora when Miss corona is over I’ll definitely go to Kyoto again for the mean matcha craving and do a girly trip with my friend
I’m crying, I’m literally crying b/c this is just so beautiful. I love the manga and I grew up with the early 2000 anime of this and to have this remastered, every time, I’m just crying. My heart explodes all the time. I was a mess emotionally on the last episode and this episode I’m just.... my heart....ughhhhhhhh!!!!!

Been there twice and I gotta say that they really did an amazing job with the background sceneries... they perfectly depicted the quaint beauty of Kyoto and Nara. Makes me want to come back there.
