- Come with me to my new studio and practice product photography! It's a new venture and I'm both nervous and excited about it. Let me know in the comments if you want to see more of my studio!
GEAR AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Camera - Canon 5D Mark III
Lens - Canon 50mm f1.2
Flashes - Canon Speedlite 600 ex ii and Canon Speedlite 430 ex ii
Transmitter and Reciever system - Godox X1R-C Reciever and Godox X-Pro C 2.4GHZ Transmitter
Backdrop - Savage Universal seamless paper in Mocha. Purchased from Strobe Pro
White Blocks - Wooden boxes from the dollar store that I painted white. Don't recommend this as the texture is very obvious in photos and I had to edit it a lot.

Oh and subscribe please. heh.
For future vids it might be good to show some of the product pics as we go, talk about your thoughts about them, and then show us the small changes you made and your thought process.
Thanks for the feedback!
I absolutely agree. I love it when a photo of the outcome is attached on the video as the person takes the picture. Because if it's at the end I tend to start skipping the video just so I can get to the end to see how it came out and then i go to the next video.
Great point!
Thank you for making this video. I am a baby entrepreneur and I'm pretty much doing EVERYTHING on my own (as most are). And I was researching different ideas for my product photoshoot and came across your video. This helped a lot and made me realize I need to start utilizing Pinterest for creative direction and to put some things together and just SHOOT. Thanks again!
Thank you for your incredibly kind comment! I'm so glad this helped you. Pinterest is definitely a great place to go for ideas. Yes, just shoot! It can be daunting but you never know what you can accomplish until you try. Good luck!
@DeaMcClay same here! I do everything in my livingroom but i am loving every part of this process and this video IS really helpfull indeed!
OMG The use of natural light in this video is mind-boggling. This is the best product photography video I have watched so far, go girl
Wow thank you so much!!
You are hilarious! And also WICKED TALENTED and creative. I was so engaged watching this. And I also learned a ton. So pumped to see more of your journey!
Aw thank you so much! That means a lot. :)
I absolutely loved this product styling idea x
Damn those photo's after you edited them, wow😍 I'm definitely subscribing👍🏽
Thank you so much! Means a lot
I love how creatively you worked with light and shadow and I love the end photos. Very inspirational.
Aw thank you so much!! ❤️
I'm waiting for your new videos🤗
I'm so excited for your studio tour and it'll be amazing if you make a video just about light setting in a studio🙏🙏🙏❤
Thank you so much! That's a good idea :)
These are wonderful tips, I own a small laser engraving business so I will totally be implementing what I learned to take better pictures of my products 💕
That's awesome!! Thank you so much 🥰
3:57 Watching the sun come in with the timelapse like 😍😍😍
Anything. No really, I enjoyed the video and hope to see more videos.
Thank you!
Killed it! Those shots came out great!
Thanks so much dude!! ☺️
Thank you for this video, I will be starting a business soon and that is exactly the 'vibe' I'm going for, looks High quality and professional. It would be great to see how you edit these pics.
Thank you so much! I'm still learning how to do product photography, so that means a lot. I'll be doing an editing video soon!
Seriously amazing
Thank you!
These are beautiful oh my goodness👏👏
Thanks so much!
oooh these turned out so nice
Thank you so much!
That was really fun to watch! Nice bts, edit, and video quality!
Thank you so much!
So good!
Thank you!
I vote studio tour! Obviously bias... haha. These product shots are soooo good!!!!!!
Haha done!! Studio tour will be in the queue 🤣 and thank you friend!!
Very nice results!! Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching :)
This video was so helpful! Thank you for sharing. I'm a very beginner product photographer and watching you setup and navigate the process of your product shoot was super informative for me. I found your shot list especially helpful! Would you mind sharing what you include in a shot list for a product shoot?
Thank you for watching and for the kind words! Great question. I include my inspo shots/mood board and then break down what each shot consists of, so I write down notes about the lighting set up, what the backdrop is, and what props are needed. This helps me get organized so I have a solid game plan going into the shoot and also, to know what I need to source/gather for each shot!
Wow these are amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
I loved this! Thank you!!
I planned to start a product photography business and this is really helpful. Thanks. Best of luck!
Thank you! That's awesome. Best of luck to you too!
OMG I LOVE THESE! It's simple but definitely helped me in a creative sense in product photography. Specially I'm shooting a hair product right now and this just gave me an idea 💕👌
Aww thank you so much! So glad it helped you. Let me know if you have any questions! :)
@@AileenChoiPhoto i have a few haha, like how do you decide what props to use? and what lens did you use for the shoot?
@@andreadelapena962 I honestly don't have a ton of experience shooting products haha but I think it's always good to start minimal (of course, depending on what style you're going for). I try to think about how the props will relate to the product and what I am trying to convey/what feel I'm going for. For example: if the product is seasonal and I want to go for a summer vibe, I think about bolder colours and fun props. If i want to keep the overall look simple, I'd use props that aren't too distracting that will take away from the product.
As for lens, I used a Canon 50mm f1.2 lens. :)
"Stop thinking so poorly of yourself because you can do better than you think you can." - Aileen Choi
Damn, that hit hard 😅
Hahaha 🤣 unintentional inspiration, so glad
This was so helpful and also hilarious! Awesome authentic video!
Oh my gosh thank you so much!!! 💖
Loved this video. Just subscribed. Photos always come out better than we give ourselves credit for. Well done!
You're right! We need to give ourselves some more credit :) Thank you for watching and for subscribing!
Dear Aileen, please stop excusing yourself all the time. You are great as you are! And thank you for showing your craft. This is so inspiring to me! Love to do same!!!! 🤗
Aww thank you! That's so sweet. Thanks for watching!
So glad I found this video! I hope you're still active on your older videos, since I have a question which I hope you can answer. A year later, what set up do you still use and or recommend for beginners i.e. what lighting etc.?
I'm still using my same lighting and camera equipment, I only upgraded one of my camera bodies from a 5D Mark 4 to an R6, but I still have the mark 4. I would recommend using video lights to start off if you're intimidated by using a trigger/receiver lighting set up (like I use with my flashes), and then move on to trying that out. :) I know it can seem daunting in the beginning, trust me, I had to really push myself to try it out, but it's actually pretty straight forward! Spend time playing around with them and you'll get comfortable with it in no time.
Yes to studio tour!!
I did one! :) Check it out!
very nice and exciting
Thank you!! 💗
Helloooo :-) Loved this video. Please make more product photography videos.
Thank you! I will try when I have time :) I don't do a lot of product photography yet as I'm still learning but appreciate your interest!
these photos are amazing
I love your photos
Thank you!
This was so well put together :) Love the way you educate with this video
Thank you so much! 💕
Thanks for inspiring me to do my own Product Photography video😍💛
That's awesome, thanks for watching!
Beautiful! You inspire me to do my best
Aw that's sweet! Thank you 💕
love to see some tips on shooting dainty jewellery
When I get more experience with it, I'll try to create some content surrounding that! Macro lens is a must though for dainty jewelry so you can get nice and up close, and I would say pedestals of some sort to create levels.
So inspiring!!! I love your work
Wow thank you so much! ❤️
Heyyyyyy Aileen, good video! I changed one room of my house into a studio, which I use for videos. You inspired me to try product photogtaphy.
Thank you so much! That's awesome :) have fun and good luck!
Studio tour 🥳
Done! Coming soon :)
Very nice video. Subscribed.
Love this! Where did you get the paper backdrop? It’s gorgeous.
It's from Strobe Pro online!
thank you for your video tutorial, this is very useful for me. I hope your channel will progress and develop
#fromindonesia
Wow thank you for the kind comment! I'm glad it was helpful. Wishing you the best!
Love this BTS. Do you mind sharing what color background that is you used?
Thank you! The backdrop is from the brand Savage Universal and the colour is Mocha.
Great video!
And please forgive me but I cant help myself: Storing vinyl records flat/horizontally can lead to warping. Vertical/upright is the way to go.
Amei conhecer seu trabalho.
they turned out amazing! congrats!
Thank you!
Great video. I was looking for something like that so bad. Could you make a video of how you pop up the editing of those photos in lightroom? Merci!
Thank you for watching! Not sure what you mean by pop up the editing of the photos?
You did a great job
Amazing work! How would you take pictures of leather bags? I am small business owner of leather bags but always strangling with pictures of my product. Can’t do like I want! And I like this warm shade style! Beautiful!
I would add in a couple simple props like foliage or geometric shapes to add something to the overall photo :)
Hi from brazil and i'm in love whit this video, thank u so much to give it for us❤❤
Thank you for watching!
I saw one of the pictures on pinterest and it gave me an idea

Thanks for this video 🤓
Great work!
your pimple convinced me jejeje
Bahahah thank you! It may be back to make an appearance sometime 🤣
Hi Aileen! Tips for a coffee grounds pictures pls. And other accents. Thank you!
Hi Judene, I haven't taken photos of coffee grounds before but I think what I would do is have the coffee grounds in its bag/packaging, and scatter the grounds around the bag. You can have the grounds on a spoon as well to add another layer. It's hard to explain without showing you, so I would recommend looking up some inspiration on Pinterest!
@@AileenChoiPhoto Thanks for this tip!! I totally appreciate it. Stay safe Aileen!
THIS WAS SO COOL!
The photos you took were very cool looking.. well done
Thank you so much!
@@AileenChoiPhoto you welcome

How did the DIY flats turn out? Been trying to get my husband to make me some.
What lights did you use at 7:18 in the softbox?
At 8.36 Any tips on culling?
Great video! Thanks so much. Can you share where you get your backdrop rolls and what color you used? Thanks so much!
Thank you! Yes, the colour I'm using is Mocha seamless backdrop paper. The brand is Savage Universal and it's purchased from Strobe Pro.
@@AileenChoiPhoto Thanks so much!
You inspired me
Aw that's awesome! Thank you 😊
Love your video 💜
Thank you!
Loved this video! Your so talented!
Ive always wondered what goes into product shots! What camera lens do you use?
Thank you! My equipment is all listed in the description.
Love ur video
is it a 85mm lens?
I used a 50mm f1.2 lens
Great!
May I know which camera did you used in video for product photography?
All the gear I used is listed in the description :)
That fart at 3:49 damn hahaha
I am in Canada, what soft box do you recommend? I only take photos for products that I handcrafted.
Are you looking for a softbox to put your products in to photograph, or a softbox for lighting?
@@AileenChoiPhoto I am looking for a soft box for lighting, artificial natural light.
@@peaches1782 I just ordered a Neewer softbox from Amazon. I got the 4ft diameter size, the bigger the softbox the more diffused light you will get which will look softer :)
@@AileenChoiPhoto thank you, I saw many neewer soft boxes and I will choose based on your recommendation. Thanks again.
👍
I have a canon T5i, it’s what I can afford, I’m not a photographer, however I am wanting to learn basics for taking product photography of my candles. I am struggling with the settings in my camera. I am using a ring light and shooting indoors
That's a great camera! It can be tricky to learn manual setting, I wouldn't be able to explain it very well on here but search for tutorials on how to use the manual setting :) in terms of lighting, I would shoot by a window and use natural light for your products! It's the best lighting and easiest for beginner photography
Check out mango Street for a tutorial
❤❤
Make a "like" counter for bigger numbers
Great Video
Thank you!
Hi Aileen, I really enjoyed your video!! Can I ask you, the shots with the strong shadows, is that only possible with the sunlight, or you can get the same effect with your light sources? Thanks!!
I achieved the shots with the harsh shadows with my speedlites! So yes. It gives you more control and different results but you can also achieve the look with the sun.
Beautiful photos!
Thank you!
amazing results! do you have your own preset?
Thank you! No I don't.
You give me a lot of idea. What is your lens?
Lens is canon 50mm f.12 mark 2. All my equipment is listed in the description :)
Love love love it. What's your Pinterest?
Thank you! It's aileenchoiphoto
😍
Was the flash critical or is the basic light panel enough? Is lightroom enough for color correction, exposure...
The flash was critical to create the effect/type of lighting I wanted for these photos shown here. It depends what look you're going for, if you want even distributed light, then just a light panel can be enough. Lightroom is mainly what I use for color correction, exposure and adjustments like that, I use Photoshop for retouching
What's good momma
perfect👍🏼
which camera you used
What software/platform do you use to edit?
I mainly use Lightroom for colour and exposure and then Photoshop for retouching and more extensive manipulation if needed
cool content
Thank you!
Thank you! This was really useful 💞
That's awesome! Thanks for watching ❤️
How did you make these blocks? Where do you get the background?
The blocks are wooden boxes from the dollar store that I painted white (don't recommend this though, the texture shows up very obviously in the photos and I had to do a lot of editing to smooth it out). The background info is in the description.
I subscribed for your pimple. Kidding good work👍
Haha thanks for listening to my pimple! Thanks for subscribing and watching also :)
Can you do a video of clothing products photography?
That's a good idea! I haven't done any clothing product photos yet, but I will make a video once the chance comes along.
100 years later 😅
