20 Car Vintage Big Bore class including 3 big block Corvettes and 1 big block Mustang, with close hard racing to the finishline. Vintage Road Racing at its best - ENJOY !! PS. Yes the Mustang runs and old Holman Moody "FE" 427 big block. Авто/Мото
There are few engines that sound like the FE Ford. This video is an awesome display of that majesty. Long live the FE Ford!
🏁👍
Absolutely awesome! The legendary FE 427 at full noise.
Thank you Mr. 427 Mustang Roadracer! What a great way to start my day.
Long live the "FEs"....
Cheers
FE based aftermarket engine. Not one single factory original FE part there.
@@ricpratt6584 it’s still an FE you moron
@@ricpratt6584 - And just who do you think gives a flying rat's ass? Nobody Bro, nobody!
@@Loulovesspeed Hey Joe Polite. You got the wrong guy here. Not my response.
@@ricpratt6584 - No it aint Dillweed - read the heading and get edumicated! Sounds like you wouldn't know a tie rod from a fly rod mr. genius. Lol
Sounds amazing from the engine to the whine of the gears pure racecar.
Hell Yeah
This thing is blindingly fast. Don't screw up-it could be extremely costly. I can't race anymore and this is great stuff. Thank you so much for a fantastic ride-well done sir!
Holman & Moody built great engines and cars .Mr Moody was the best !!!
No they did not denny Aldridge built this motor
Man I LOVE that sound at 6:51 when the rev-limiter kicks in and you see the shift light come on next to the tach. That is the best sound ever!! 427 Ford is amazing, thanks for the video, keep them coming!!
YoungVolks
What rev limiter? Doubt it has one, besides you shift when the torque goes flat, grab the next gear and do it all over again
@ There were mechanical rev limiters know as centrifugal governors or flyballs. Rather interesting how they work too.
@@handsome4922 - Electronic rev limiters were just coming into vogue in the mid-60's.
@@alanhardman2447 Yeah, my "BOSS 302" had a rev limiter that was set at 6150 rpm. Ripped it out on the second day, allowed me to take that 302 to 7000rpm!
Wow... That car is a beast... My uncle built engines for HM back in the early to mid 60s so I do enjoy seeing the cars that have the namesake displayed. I also enjoy the HM nascar 352 that he built in his old 32 ford sedan that I inherited as well.
nice to see "old technology" still kicking ass after 40 years
Agreed...nothing better!
amen
Just loved watching him driving around Chevy's and Dodge's all day long. Definitely not bad for a 53 year old Ford Coupe. About the only thing he couldn't run past was that newer Trans Am car but even that guy had to watch the Mustang's front end up close and personal for a few laps. Fantastic car with a fantastic driver!
Ligenfelter 1997 trans am
what you thing the mustang needs so can compete with them?
"It only takes one Ford to beat a hundred Chevys"-Bob Glidden
Only takes one mopar to beat that ford.
Roddy Creswell.
Funny how in the earlier yrs of Corvettes in SCCA they dominated and won every race plus the championship, lol.
All the weeny baby manufacturers including ford were pathetic!😂
@@geneyus6411 because they were the only sports car made. Easy to dominate when there is litterally nothing else at the time. But that all ended in 1962 with the FORD powered Cobras.
You obviously weren't around then were you?
@@roddycreswell8613 except in Gliddens case that rarely if ever happened. In fact, it was usually the other way around.
@@plantfeeder6677 You're cluless!🙄
God bless the old big block Ford's, gotta love'm!!!!!!!!!!!
Dang, these guys are 10 seconds faster than I in my stock 01 Z06. Impressive beasts.
BOB ROTHWELL they also professionally roadrace
The sounds of the cars engines screaming at top revs brings excitement to the crowd in the stands. I was there for two of the SOVREN races in the past and they were very entertaining which is an understatement.
My bucket list is to attend several more of these classics before the good lord takes me.
Damn that driver is good! And man is the gear ratio close! Amazing acceleration in my opinion!!!!!
Now picture that same engine in a big old galaxie, with bias ply tires, and old school suspension, driven by a guy in a T shirt and a batting helmet, likely while smoking...
sounds like fun
Your prose Is pure artistry.
indeed and agreed
ROFL
You forgot the 4-wheel drum brakes! Top of the line.
It's a shame that those 800hp Corvettes couldn't keep up. LOL!
I'll take a wag and say the 16 thumbs down votes are from chivy guys🤣
You would be correct!
Yes those damn Chivys!
The cars got a chivy motor in it
Just visited the Kent track for the first time July 2017. Beautiful track, I wish they would clear out some trees to expose more of the track. Nice friendly folks at Kent. Got a chance to meet Pete Brock. How cool is that !
5:56 yeah! This is the best road race event in WA by far! Thanks for sharing, the cockpit view is really good to see how much different they handle than newer cars.
Great race yesterday at Sonoma!!! Awesome Mustang!!!!
ONE OF THE MOST BASASS MUSTANGS I HAVE EVER SEEN
God Almighty, what horsepower and torque. A real handful for sure. Great video. Thanks.
Been here many times with the PCA. Porsche! Love the old Muscle.
Is that whine from a Jericho transmission? A Ford Borg Warner T-10 could not handle that much horsepower.
@@ronaldwaltherjr.7138 - No, but their Toploader T&C 4-speed had no trouble...
Cool stang, no more sightings at pacific raceways for the last few yrs. I been to every SOVREN race for the last few yrs and was hoping this car would be there but... no. Probably got sold to somebody back east or blew up and no $$ to fix. Those 427 FE side oiler motors are uber expensive.
One of the first things on my list if I ever got super rich, buy every ford 427 FE side oiler I could find so my road race stang would always be ready for the track.
~
Robert B no, the same guy still owns it but he is now running a Shelby cobra replica in a different racing class, car is still around and in perfect condition!
Had a similar experience in South Texas SCCA event about 20 years ago - at much lower amateur level. One of my first outtings with my Mustang. Had a Corvette guy who was all over me in the corners, but just didn't have the power to get past me on the straights, I would pull 3 or 4 lengths on him, he finally overheated.. but oh what fun that was.
Bloody superb and unbelievable!!!.
Regards a slightly jealous Limey b.
You Just Have Great Taste😉👍
It was a good race, hope to see you guys at Portland and Seattle. Well done Ken!
Well that was heroic! what a beast, and what a driver.
Those downshifts at 13:48 whoooweee!!!! Music♡♥
that is one bad ass mustang wish mine would run like that
i could listen to this thing scream at the redline all day long! SWEET!
That HM stang will eat that vette alive...
.....if only that 4th gear was just a weeeeeee bit taller, lol! Badass wheel work'n there chief !
That was an amazing ride-along! Thanks!
great video, love big block power
Great job , thanks for the ride,
What a massive 1st gear ! This car and Driver are a perfect match!
That 4-2 shift at 5:31 pleases me more than you'd like to know; there is something brutally awesome about (I presume) a dog box trans.
That track looks nice, trees, curves, real cars, real drivers, and road course racing is still my favorite. Drags are cool but this is real racing
That thing is a beast. I`ll bet it`s a handful to drive. What was your top speed on those straightaways. It´s picking up speed like nothing. Good to see legendary iron taken care of the right way.
Would seem to be going from 90 to 150 rather quickly eh! what a rush....
that crew and car are a match made. good luck in future races fellas,,
Thats such a beautiful track!
What a glorious looking race track that's the meaning of life rite There
Brings back memories of dad making beer runs when I was a kid
Homan Moody engine in that Mustang is perfection for road racing great Hp and all that Torque .
The engine is great. But whoever set the car up knew what they were about. The car really handles well. I IMAGINE IT WASeither the Holman sop back in Carolina or someone who used to be with Holmsn.or H M.
The driver is really good. Really really good.
Drive it like ya stole it! Love it!
This is great 👍 shifting sounds nice too :)
Running a 4:11 gear on my Tunnel Port. What Ratio are you guys set up at?
Excellent super video ;-)
For a vintage race, this guy isn't pulling any punches. Flat out all the way around the track. The NASCAR Taurus that passed him has about 30 years of technology on that 68 Mustang. Always loved this track, beautiful scenery nearby my home town. Too bad urban crawl has essentially ruined Racing here. I remember back in HS going to the 64 funny cars and "Fox hunt" night time races on the 1/4 mile track which you can see that the road racing track uses the return road and run down area for the drag strip.
Pretty cool footage, love the car! My favorite car of all time was a 68 coupe, Small block 289 C code car which I added an SROD and a 3.25 gear out back. Loved that car. This brings back a ton of good memories!
what are the rules or specs that the cars have to run, i.e does it need manual box and so on...?
No shame in coming in behind a GT2. Great racing.
That nissan 240 gt2 was definitely in high boost😮
KING OF THE ROAD! 427 KICK ASS, WHAT A RIDE, PLEASURE TO GO SHOTGUN ANF THAN YOU FOR SHARING
I thought I smelled race gas while watching this.
you did you did
I did too
I love the smell of napalm, uh, racing gas in the morning.
J. Hunto's Garage hahaha i know what your feeling
a combination of a professional driver and a bada#$ car ...... I enjoyed every second
I love it when the differential is louder than the engine!
Love that banging of gears
this is my spirit car
Would this car beat a Parnelli Jones driven 1970 Trans Am Mustang on this same track? Any lap time comparisons? I ask this as a question only. Maybe just curious if the big 427 would beat the 302 on a road course. Can’t wait to hear any good feedback.
Best sound track ever...
Needs a tremec 5 speed. Top loader has the wngine on the limiter in 4th. Looks like the driver backed out only longer straights so as not to over stress the valve train. It needs a 5th and even a 6th.
Those 427s can take a beating at that 4th gear ....that whining is all BIG BLOCK music
427 Fords are made to run at the redline for hours....24 of them to be exact.
@@guadalupevasquez7260 a good deal of that whining is from the straight-cut gears in the transmission. They're not as quiet as helical-cut gears but much stronger. The motor does sound fabulous, though.
😂 Yeah ok. The track is too short for another gear. The final drives are put on the ragged edge of the engine’s power band according to track length. Holman Moody has been setting up cars to run different tracks for 50 years. I don’t think they need basement arm chair “advice”.
Gotta love those Mustangs.
First time I have seen a Mustang beat a 427 Corvette. Impressive!
You just made my day smoking all of those Chevrolets
I’m both a Chevy fan and ford fan...but wait. The 427 vettes outran him never to be seen again. He appears to be a very good driver.....but why are you chiming for him? He ended up by himself from the start
Re watch
Rewatched at 4,05, hard to tell if he made a pass in the sunlight against the vette? Either way, no other competitors after that.. wasn’t thinking that was the last 427 vette he was chasing? Correct me if wrong
Passed em all.
@@jasonshawver7227 You better watch it again - he outran every corvette there.
I was waiting for those Vettes to pass him? Next time...
A question just to learn; could you please tell me what is that whining/whistling/tweeting sound when you pull your foot off the pedal as revs go down. My English is not enough to describe but I'm sure you'll get what I mean. When you're on gas V-8 roars and nothing else, but when you're off and slowing down, that sound starts..Sorry if I bothered you.
The gears in the transmission and the rear axle are straight cut racing gears. Google straight cut gears to learn more.
That puppy can put up some mph when it gets out on the open road
GPS was showing 161.5 MPH!
This guy reminds me of a civilized Parnelli Jones.
Wow this Fe427 is really put together I wonder if it's one or two four barrels. Those shifts sound like seven or eight grand woo
I was surprised that car past him with such ease But awesome driver man wish I could drive like that
That red car was a GT2 car in a higher class
@@427mustangroadracer9 That's what I figured. Thing was loaded with aero, and was significantly wider.
I want to go for a ride! At the very least I want to buy that driver a drink.
We don’t need no paddle shifters.
INSANE!
Who's the driver ? Great driving and a very fast car. Like the speed shifts with 4 on the floor.
what a great vid!!!
They can put as many Chevy Corvettes & Camaros as they want to on the track but the lonely little Ford Mustang still KICKS THEY ASS ! LOL !
Wow I was thinking stroker Windsor 427 until I saw the Holman Moody. That FE must of used a gear drive?
It is the trans that makes that gear noise. The design allows you to abuse the hell out of it and it keeps coming back for 2nd's and 3rd's.
Where are the vetts ??????
One Mustang to rule them all...
Hats off to the driver...hes driving the wheels off that mustang😊. The corvettes should have a substantial handling advantage with the mustang being pretty nose heavy and a live rear axle but its dsmn sure not showing there
That guy kicks some serious butt in that mustang
Awesome!!!!
Is that supercharger whine or straight cut gears?
Gabriel Messam gears
we have a series very similar to this in Australia called the touring master definitely worth checking out on RUclips. some fantastic American & Australian muscle cars 💪
That’s one fucking badass Ford and Driver
Driver is a beast! Is he using the clutch between shifts?
dog ring gearbox. no clutch needed except at start.
Like the T5 World Class?
@@taunuslunatic404 top loader Ford more than likely.
what track is this and where is it located
Pacific raceway Kent Washington.
Where are the Corvettes? I only saw one car from the inside through the windshield.
Ken the blue oval guys love you !! Nothing better than reminding a Chevy where their place is in the pecking order. BEHIND the Ford. !! The best thing is the Mustang is a brick going through the air compared to the vette. And the top end is a joke and he puts boat loads on him anyway .. LOl READ AND WEEP GM drivers. !!
Depending on the vette generation such as c2s werent aerodynamic.
Also it looks like the chevys are outrunning his ass
its a corvette party and ford is the skunk. Holman Moody is about an hour from here, no joke.
Dam that car is fast..
Sounds like my Fox Body on I 94!!! Detroit!!!!
job well done!!!
That convertible black Junkvette was doin a good job at blockin him in the beginning of lap 1....but once the Mustang got some traction goin, it was a wrap for that Junkvette....
My baby brother falls asleep to this
Why does video keep stoping an starting.? U TUBE.
"FE" 427 big block and the "L88 427" ...... outside of the 426 Hemi, they WERE the 1960's 🙂
That is a fun track. Unless you go off - trees, rocks and embankments.
What transmission are you running here?
Borg Warner t10 top loder
@@redlion9199 I read it's a modified Ford Top Loader. Would make sense. Everyone in Nascar used it until the Jericho trans came out. Can easily handle the big blocks torque
It's a Jerico with straight cut gears
