    • @hawkinsss999
      @hawkinsss999 6 лет назад +32

      I know I'm a little late here, but I think it's considered a bigger shock because the USA/England game proved to everyone that massive shocks were possible. Like the video said, initially people could not believe that the USA won and called the reports on the game a hoax and as far as I'm aware no such accusations occured after the North Korean win. By the time the North Korea/Italy game came around, the possibility of a giant-killing was known to everyone because of the American victory, so the North Korean victory wasn't quite as shocking to the world. Had the Italy defeat occured before the England defeat, I think the Italy game would be consider a bigger shock because it would have introduced the real possibility of a World-class team being beaten by a group on unknowns. Of course, it was still a massive shock, but the general initial reaction was more along the lines of shock and anger, rather than the sheer disbelief and absolute denial that the USA win produced.

    • @hugodrax71

      I would say USA beating England in 1950 is bigger - North Korea were actually a decent side (they went 3-0 up against a strong Portugal side until Eusebio took over) and Italy played that Korean match with 10 men for an hour as Bulgarelli was carried off injured and there were no subs back then.

    • @nicky29031977
      @nicky29031977 5 лет назад +1

      @@hugodrax71 People (even in Italy) tend to forget about the Italians having only 10 men against N Korea. Also most experts even in England tend to forget about the 1950 game since it didn't have too many consequences for the England team. Because of the 1966 game the manager was sacked and whenever Italy come up against any "little" team in a major tournament they always talk about the possibility of "another Korea" happening again. Plus in 1950 there wasn't the mass media and tv that was around in 1966 to spread the gossip. Also in 1950 England could still make amends by beating Spain in their final game (they lost 1 0 ) while Italys defeat signalled immediate elimination.

      Tbf England were unlucky in 1950. As the American guy says England dominated and from what I’ve heard they hit the woodwork on numerous occasions. It was just one of those days like 1973 with Poland. The Iceland match England just played like a damp squib. So much worse in my opinion

      England, who invented the game, started it. There was gridiron football, which resulted in north american football rules. Rugby football which became just rugby. And then soccer football which most of the world just calls football except in some countries that play other types and call it soccer.

    One of the gems of the World Cup. And yet 60 years later, 2010, the USA draws England and Americans win the group ahead of the English. Football in America is on the rise, and in a big way. The rest of the world, specifically the English, hate the thought of it. However, you can't stop destiny so you might as well embrace it. America's ever-increasing competitiveness on the world football stage is great for the growth of the game.

    • @gallyturndrop5320

      Like it or not, when America gets it right, they will dominate like they have always been a top ten team. Right now we struggle with identity and also our youth programs. For a country with our population and resources, we will definitely find our way one day.
