    Peru could have gone so far. They had the potential to winning the World Cup at the time. Now our chances are not as high cause we don't have players like Cubillas, Cueto or Hugo Sotil. It's really upsetting.

      That neither means nor proves that they deserved to be champions. If you anlayzed the record of recent games of Holland or Brazil you would get a similar performance, if not even better, against even tougher adversaries, thus, by your very logic making those coun tries deserve the title even more.
      The match against Peru in 1978 was NOT simultaneously played as the other 3rd round group stage match, giving Argentina an exact picture for HOW MUCH they would have to bribe Peru for the necessary goal difference. If you deny that you are either Argentinean or have some particular (unreasonale) reason for your bias. WCs 1934 and 1978 were BOUGHT by the respective military regimes. I can only spit on the face of those who cheated and those who deny cheating. Same goes for Italy 1934, who doesn´t deserve to have twice as many titles as Argentina.

      PinkasBrown44 That argentinian team had the talent and the determination to win 6 - 0. Perú had played well untill that game, but they crumble arte e the 2nd goal. The same happened to México against Chile in the last American Cup. They had played well and there wasnt much difference in quality with Chile, but they lost 7-0. Another example is Brazil 1-7 Germany

    • @PinkasBrown44
      @PinkasBrown44 8 лет назад +2

      Alas, neither of the matches with high score difference you mentioned had the more than well founded suspicions as in the Argentina x Peru match. And neither of the examples you mentioned occurred during group stages, after one team had the necessary information about the required goal difference...
      ...rendering your examples both biased and useless.
      Instead of analyzing things the way they are and then drawing the conclusions, you do the opposite by backwards-rationalizing so that the desired outcome deviates from the elusive obvious related to the starting point of the analysis, kind of like with your ¨examples¨.

But the people who was there, saw that the peruvian players seemed to be very afraid after the talk. Everyone knows what happened next. And once the world cup ended, the peruvian goverment received tons of wheat from Argentina as a special delivery. Those special deliveries only are given when a country is in war or has a nature disaster. Peru did not have any of the two things at that time. • @TheRadFactor
      @TheRadFactor 6 лет назад +1

      This has been common practice until that infamous German Austrian deal against Algeria. The basic thought was to maximize the fun and money for the host nation. So it was not set up specifically for Argentina or the 78 world cup.

    • @olegbeaviz
      @olegbeaviz 6 лет назад

      There were two reasons why Argentinas matches in 1978 kicked off at night(7.15pm Argentinian time). Firstly, if Argentina were playing at the same time as any other matches, then very few people would bother to turn up to watch the other match, as they would be at home watching Argentina on TV(the same policy was used by West Germany in 1974). Secondly, the main European television companies insisted that the 1978 world cup matches should be played at "prime time" in Europe, with 1.45pm or 4.45pm kick offs (Argentinian time). It was only fair that at least the host nation could play their games at a time when the Argentinian fans could actually watch the games, rather than come home from work or school and the match is already finished. I've always been against World Cup finals matches kicking off at times to suit western European TV, it's surely wrong that the country hosting the World Cup should be forced to have all the games kicking off when everyone is still at work

    It is very likely that Argentina 'bought' the match against Peru. Several years after the 1978 WC one of key Polish players, Robert Gadocha, admitted that there was a special bag with 10 000 $ (please do not laugh - at that time it was a gorgeous amount in Poland...) which appeared in the Polish team's dressing room in the break of the Argentina-Poland match. This was the first match both for Argentina and Poland in the second round of the 1978 WC. Poland lost 0:2, although it dominated and created many occasions to score. The leader of the Polish team, Kazimierz Deyna (one of stars in the 1974 WC), did not score a penalty for Poland.

      No, after the 1978 World cup, the knock-out stage was introduced again (because Brazil was eliminated while they were undefeated, only because Argentina bought Peru to score with a +4 goals difference).
      The rule of the last games played at the time was after another scandal (the 1982 Germany-Austria game).

    However .. I don't think Brazil deserved to reach the final match in 1978 more than Argentina .. and it's hard to prove that there was a match-fixing scandal ..

      On the contrary, brazil had not lost a single game in the world. It was agreed BEFORE the 1978 World Cup started, that all of Argentina's first round group games, and second round group games(if they qualified) would kick off at 7.15pm Argentinian time, so that the ARgentinian fans would be able to watch their matches live, as all other matches in the group stages were scheduled to kick off at either 1.45pm or 4.45pm, when most people would still be at work or school. Back in those days it wasn't unusual for final group matches to kick off at different times, in 1966, 1970 and 1982 the final group matches in the first round kicked off on different days, it was only after the West Germany-Austria match in 1982 that they changed the rules so that the final group matches should kick off simultaneouslty.

      De hecho se supo que le pagaron a los jugadores y al entrenador una gran suma de dinero para que se dejarán ganar; fue humillante para el pueblo peruano y no merecíamos esa "maldición" pero bueno la pagaron mas adelante las siguientes generaciones gracias a direcciones corruptas que aceptaban dinero con tal de no dejar nada a la selección; de hecho una vez salio el directivo mas corrupto de la comitiva Perú clasifico al mundial, para que veas que el dinero si tiene que ver y mucho... Esto lo se a ciencia cierta porque varios de mis familiares trabajaban en el circulo político en esas épocas y ellos lo supieron de primera mano aun antes de que se diera el resultado. El que Argentina tuviera un gobierno dictatorial en esas épocas empeora aun mas las cosas porque bien se sabe que estos "gobiernos" suelen hacer de todo para que su país gane en artes, deportes, ciencias y de esta forma se promociones mejor su gobierno. No solo lo ha hecho Argentina sino también Rusia , quienes eran capaces de no solo sobornar sino también de amenazar de muerte tanto a su propio equipo si no ganaban y al contrario si no se dejaban ganar.

He only narrates the story that happened in that match, he doesn't and can't imply anything since he is supposed to view it in a neutral position. Plus, even if he offered his opinion in this matter, who is he to confirm or deny the existence of a bribe? He didn't have a direct participation whatsoever in the process so even his opinion would be as insignificant as yours or mine. Secondly, how do you even know that the game was thrown away? Do you have any proof? If so, show it to me because I want to write a complaint to FIFA so that the 1978 World Cup is replayed.
