That neither means nor proves that they deserved to be champions. If you anlayzed the record of recent games of Holland or Brazil you would get a similar performance, if not even better, against even tougher adversaries, thus, by your very logic making those coun tries deserve the title even more. The match against Peru in 1978 was NOT simultaneously played as the other 3rd round group stage match, giving Argentina an exact picture for HOW MUCH they would have to bribe Peru for the necessary goal difference. If you deny that you are either Argentinean or have some particular (unreasonale) reason for your bias. WCs 1934 and 1978 were BOUGHT by the respective military regimes. I can only spit on the face of those who cheated and those who deny cheating. Same goes for Italy 1934, who doesn´t deserve to have twice as many titles as Argentina.
PinkasBrown44 That argentinian team had the talent and the determination to win 6 - 0. Perú had played well untill that game, but they crumble arte e the 2nd goal. The same happened to México against Chile in the last American Cup. They had played well and there wasnt much difference in quality with Chile, but they lost 7-0. Another example is Brazil 1-7 Germany
Alas, neither of the matches with high score difference you mentioned had the more than well founded suspicions as in the Argentina x Peru match. And neither of the examples you mentioned occurred during group stages, after one team had the necessary information about the required goal difference... ...rendering your examples both biased and useless. Instead of analyzing things the way they are and then drawing the conclusions, you do the opposite by backwards-rationalizing so that the desired outcome deviates from the elusive obvious related to the starting point of the analysis, kind of like with your ¨examples¨.

This quote from Wikipedia ... “More controversy surrounded the host, Argentina, as all of their games in the first round kicked off at night, giving the Argentines the advantage of knowing where they stood in the group.” .... Anyone wish to argue there is not something fishy about that?!
This has been common practice until that infamous German Austrian deal against Algeria. The basic thought was to maximize the fun and money for the host nation. So it was not set up specifically for Argentina or the 78 world cup.
There were two reasons why Argentinas matches in 1978 kicked off at night(7.15pm Argentinian time). Firstly, if Argentina were playing at the same time as any other matches, then very few people would bother to turn up to watch the other match, as they would be at home watching Argentina on TV(the same policy was used by West Germany in 1974). Secondly, the main European television companies insisted that the 1978 world cup matches should be played at "prime time" in Europe, with 1.45pm or 4.45pm kick offs (Argentinian time). It was only fair that at least the host nation could play their games at a time when the Argentinian fans could actually watch the games, rather than come home from work or school and the match is already finished. I've always been against World Cup finals matches kicking off at times to suit western European TV, it's surely wrong that the country hosting the World Cup should be forced to have all the games kicking off when everyone is still at work
it was arranged between two military governments.. Videla needed this World Cup for Argentina to cover the killings they were doing inside the country, it was embarrasing for them but also they were threated in Peru by Morales Bermudez.
I am Argentinian and I am really shamed of that world cup. The Dictator, Videla, went to talk to Perú ´s players in the midtime and no one really knows what they talked about. But the people who was there, saw that the peruvian players seemed to be very afraid after the talk. Everyone knows what happened next. And once the world cup ended, the peruvian goverment received tons of wheat from Argentina as a special delivery. Those special deliveries only are given when a country is in war or has a nature disaster. Peru did not have any of the two things at that time. Also, while Argentina was beating Peru, a few blocks from the stadium, people where tortured, raped, mutiled and killed in the worst way, because they were against the dictactorship.
I'm a Scotsman. Argentina was the most exciting team of the tournament and deserved to win the world cup. The politics is a tragedy but is a separate matter. I've seen Scotland take unexpected hammerings over the years, but no one questioned if they had taken bribes? Brazilian propaganda in my book.
the problem was not Peru, the problem was Argentina, its players pressed and searched throughout the game, the merit was Kempes, Passarella, Tarantini, Bertoni, Luque, Houseman etc., the full game is on RUclips, look at it and solve your doubts, Peru could scoring two goals when they equaled 0-0 if it was not for the post, if Peru was not motivated it was because they lost to Poland and Brazil 2 games before, nothing was played in the game with Argentina, practically Peru was eliminated, if it were not for the interventions by goalkeeper Quiroga Peru would have lost 20-0, so far no Peruvian player remembers being threatened or bribed, those are just excuses
I know the Dutch team was threathen before the final. They did everything to lett them win the final. Before the final the autoraties stopped the Bus in a big crowd and let the Argentinian fans threathen the Dutch players. Also the players of the Netherlands said if we won that match we shouldnt be alive now.
that makes no sense..... why would they play, and why would they try so hard that they hit the post in the last minute....or did he try to hit the post instead of scoring?

Brazil were a very ordinary team in 1978. If Cardenosa of Spain hadn't missed an open goal in an earlier group match against Brazil, then Brazil would probably have been eliminated. Brazil's best result was beating Peru 3-0, but two of the goals were goalkeeping errors by Quiroga!
Liverpool were the European champions with Kenny dalglish and Graeme souness playing for them. Kenny burns was the player of the year in 1978 when his team Nottingham forest won the title.

That wasn't a normal game. Can't take that 7-1 as an example when you have to go back to World Cup 1954(!) to find a similar score at a semi-final (Germany 6 Austria 1). 1978 was clearly cheating! Peru was Copa America winner 3 years before this...
And what about Maradona's magical goal vs England in 86🤣🤣🤣 If Maradona didn't score that hand goal then argentina still could won that. Coz then Match draw by 1-1 and England was so so match weak in penalties in That match

Argentina and Peru, both members of FIFA, will never say the true about it. TheGreat Autismo Argentina went to look for the match and did 6 when in fact it needed 4, what is the problem? Argentina was also hit when least expected and no one puts pretexts, Brazil was defeated as host and nobody says that the Germans bought the match.
UchihaAvenger because that was the worst brazil in history while that was the best peru in history who used to beat great teams like scotland... and obviously peruvian players are not going to admit they were paid, they would receive tremendous backlash and probably would end up being killed or something.
No, after the 1978 World cup, the knock-out stage was introduced again (because Brazil was eliminated while they were undefeated, only because Argentina bought Peru to score with a +4 goals difference). The rule of the last games played at the time was after another scandal (the 1982 Germany-Austria game).

I don't think Brazil deserved to reach the final match in 1978 more than Argentina .. and it's hard to prove that there was a match-fixing scandal .. I was cheering for Holland but unfortunately they lost the final match against Argentina ..
On the contrary, brazil had not lost a single game in the world. The only way that argentina was classified was the goal difference since the match took place long before the game of peru, and of course with the military dictatorship taking place in the game in argetina.... today several of these manipulations were bought

Kempes never scored another goal for Argentina after this tournament. This tournament was basically it for him. One of the most over-rated players of all time.
The British viewers for sure. England didn't qualify, and the best players from Liverpool and Forest (the two best sides, by far, in the FL First Division in '78) were Scottish.
It is very likely that Argentina 'bought' the match against Peru. Several years after the 1978 WC one of key Polish players, Robert Gadocha, admitted that there was a special bag with 10 000 $ (please do not laugh - at that time it was a gorgeous amount in Poland...) which appeared in the Polish team's dressing room in the break of the Argentina-Poland match. This was the first match both for Argentina and Poland in the second round of the 1978 WC. Poland lost 0:2, although it dominated and created many occasions to score. The leader of the Polish team, Kazimierz Deyna (one of stars in the 1974 WC), did not score a penalty for Poland.
The great problem of this world cup was the system itself. Brazil didn't lose a single match and that happened. There were no further investigation in this case cuz the argentines were the hosts. Nowadays these things can't happen anymore. I'd say from 90's the real world was formed on its current state. Before then it was an unorganized event, with no serious intent besides money
Germany beats Brazil (the hosts with the crowd behind them) 7-1 when Brazil had it all to play for-Fair Play Argentina (the hosts with the crowd behind them) beats Peru 6-0 with the Peruvians having nothing to play for-Fix Make it make sense.
The game became of top priority for the Argentinian State and was fixed by both of the right wing dictatorships in each country, Gral. Franciso Morales in Peru and Gral.

The defenders played bad. Greetings from Peru 👉

Terrible terrible moment in history.
Stay strong my friend.
I am Peruvian. Peru defended very bad and Argentina played well. President Videla only had a gesture of hospitality. Nothing out of normal.
the problem was not Peru, the problem was Argentina, its players pressed and searched throughout the game, the merit was Kempes, Passarella, Tarantini, Bertoni, Luque, Houseman etc., the full game is on RUclips, look at it and solve your doubts, Peru could scoring two goals when they equaled 0-0 if it was not for the post, if Peru was not motivated it was because they lost to Poland and Brazil 2 games before, nothing was played in the game with Argentina, practically Peru was eliminated, if it were not for the interventions by goalkeeper Quiroga Peru would have lost 20-0, so far no Peruvian player remembers being threatened or bribed, those are just excuses

No, after the 1978 World cup, the knock-out stage was introduced again (because Brazil was eliminated while they were undefeated, only because Argentina bought Peru to score with a +4 goals difference).
The rule of the last games played at the time was after another scandal (the 1982 Germany-Austria game).
@@salviniusaugustus6567 I think it was called the disgrace of Gijon, where Algeria got robbed
finally something positive about Peru
Many people say that the match was sold, i'm not sure, i only hear it
Gerson Eduardo Jimenez Barreto only in that year the game was fixed I think. Peru won that one. Rules had changed.
Argentina totally paid them off.
I didn't cheer for Argentina in 1978 .. and there were a lot of conspiracy theories about their win against Peru .. I can still recall that ..
However ..
@@lucasramos-il1wc
Yes they didn't lose a match in 1978 .. but that doesn't mean that they're the best team ..
Scotland didn't lose a match in 1974
England didn't lose a match in 1982
New Zealand didn't lose a match in 2010
@@jafarlute6394 yes they do, but that's not the point, the point is to be eliminated for just passing 1 in the group and that doesn't mean that argentina played better. does not make sense.

Willem van Hanegem didnt want to play this world cup for the Netherlands because he was against some players getting all the money for commercials and wanted it to be devided among players.
I heard The Peruvian Team was pressured by the Argentine Government to lose
says who? Ledesma? how would he even know if he was the leader of the opposition?
I hope after the 7-0 Brazil vs Germany make people understand that it is football, and teams can lose by more than three goals in a world cup
the guilty was MARCOS CALDERON COACH PERU TEAM.THE SUBSTITUTE OTORINO SARTOR SHOULD HAVE PLAYER AS GOALKEEPER Y NOT QUIROGAS WAS ARGENTINE
0:34 Fiji's Flag...the nearest ever to World cup ever...
A real scandal. And they still claim Argentina was the 1978 world cup champion!
Kempes never scored another goal for Argentina after this tournament. This tournament was basically it for him. One of the most over-rated players of all time.
what was all that about kissinger? seems a bit mysterious
"Plan Condor"
¡VAMOS PERÚ!
The voiceover is not a translation
Did he just say Scotland were many people's favourite to get to the final?
Probably meant many Scottish people!
The British viewers for sure. England didn't qualify, and the best players from Liverpool and Forest (the two best sides, by far, in the FL First Division in '78) were Scottish.
Proud to be Peruvian
Well in this case you shouldn't
@@paulrosberg2637 Nope. Even in our downfalls, I'm still proud.
Germany beats Brazil (the hosts with the crowd behind them) 7-1 when Brazil had it all to play for-Fair Play
Argentina (the hosts with the crowd behind them) beats Peru 6-0 with the Peruvians having nothing to play for-Fix
Make it make sense.
@@donnyannessa654Brazil were trash that year lol, they barely beat Colombia and Chile, meanwhile Peru were one of the best in the World at the time
@@MrClaude-km5uc Brazil weren’t great but there’s no way you can tell me that it justifies conceding 4 goals in 6 minutes
That was a cheating World Cup
Argentina bribed Peru
Peru goalkeeper was Argentinian
That was a joke competition
El presidente de Argentina amenazo a muerte a algunos jugadores y al propio arbitro algo que dio un hecho similar a lo sucedido con Brasil
The dirtiest World Cup ever
Goalkeeper quiroga was Argentinean naturalized Peruvian
The game became of top priority for the Argentinian State and was fixed by both of the right wing dictatorships in each country, Gral. Franciso Morales in Peru and Gral. Rafael Videla in Argentina under the watch and patronage of U.S. secretary of state Mr.Henry Kissinger. Shame and jail on Joao Havelange's FIFA for allowing this to happened. NEVER AGAIN..!!!
La camiseta de Perú toda roja el short y medias blancas me parece muy bonitas, no me gusta la camiseta actual de la franja 🥲🥲🥲🥲
That's the origin of the Peruvian curse. 32 years not going to a world cup and keep counting.
Zizuthros the curse is over now
Yeahhhh lets go peru!
I heard about this match i was 4 years old, the ppl. said that Argentina paid to the players in order to reach the next stage, but today still is unresolved case. I hope this world cup Russia 2018 the matches have to be with justice and clean. Let's go Peru you can go far away.
Shameful way to win a world cup, the sole fact that the time of the game was moved in order to know what happened in the Brasil match makes it already a scandal. Football darkest hour.
As an Argentine soccer fan, I disagree and truly don’t feel shamed that we won our 3 championships due to cheating, in soccer everyone cheats😊😅
Copa manchada
So Argentina have 0 fair world cup titles
Yea
It doesn’t bother me
They already have one
