I heard this goalkeeper suffered the wrath of fans until his death, penniless and humiliated even after decades, can't imagine how much he went through for representing his country.... Brazil and its fans deserved 7-1.
@John Torres - Unfortunately, the Brazilians blamed the goalkeeper and other black players for their loss. That's a measure of how primitive the Brazilians were in their thinking back then! Perhaps it's just as well that they didn't win in 1950.

The 1950 WC was planned just awfully.
The straight knock-out round system of 1934 and 1938 made far more sense. The 1950 WC was a glorified group stage in its format. The only system that was arguably worse was Argentina's 1978 Junta-organized mess.

It's ironic the referee for the world cup 1950 final was English then 70 year's later England reached the Euro 2020 final England were playing on home soil at Wembley stadium and suffered the Wembleyazo they played Italy in the final England scored first in only the first 2 mins of the game for a 1-0 lead then half way through the 2nd half Italy scored an equalizer for a 1-1 Draw score remained 1-1 for the rest of the game then Italy beat England on a very close penalty shootout

Clodoaldo a little turbo engine. Carlos alberto large and in charge. Felix looking so vulnerable now. Then another time brilliant to add to the intrigue. I’m from uruguay but I live in Canada and this is something that will always be in our history books and in Brazil’s plus we have beaten Brazil in the copa amarica many times but Brazil have never beaten us in a major tournament or knocked us out in one and Brazil has a massive population we have 3.5 million

I still remember the say "we do not underestimate our ooponents" because anything can happen in sports. That is the same way as David defeated Goliath. Team Uruguay was that David who defeated that giant Brazil 2-1 on July 16, 1950 at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, the then capital city of Brazil, before nearly 200,000 people. What started with anticipated joy and celebration ended with sadness and national tragedy. That is an important lesson to learn because we should never jump to conclusions too early.
They do have some more good players. Also there is still time for them to develop and get better. I'm thinkin of Thiago Silva, Dani Alves, Lucas, Hulk and the mentioned Neymar.. pretty good defense n attack but the midfield lacks... i also think that they wont win the title.. i think Germany will win it.. they been always close in the last few years and they got better now. They have incredible talent in their team.

brasilia was a really old plan which started on the 1891 brazilian constitution, to bring development and importance to the central region of brazil, which was a ''nothing-nowhere'' type of place, with a really small cattle industry. and was in constitution of 1946, written in a really clear article present at the time. it was really similar in importance to nevada desert before las vegas.no one builds a city because of a loss in a game buddy, come on.
