I am also an 1950 model. After watching you guys fighting the decay of time, weather, and mold on this classic,I feel much better about my self and condition.
Keep up the miracle work, it’s fun to watch…… thanks James
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
I think you should pour the seats out. It’ll make it easier to assess the floor damage and clean the interior…
You both rock. And i agree with you some cars help other cars live and in my mind that is also truly important. Watching you both clean that interior we were laughing with you and also cringing, we both detained for many years and have seen many different things, lol. Great video we will always enjoy your content 👍. Much love and respect and God bless you both. 🙏
Thank you both. You rock!
@@whattherust so we know we enjoy each other's videos. That's so awesome.
Richard and Christina don't let the naysayers get you down. You 2 are great and doing great things. You saved this to save other cars. Even if only the shell goes on to become someone's resto mod custom, it will live on. You already have your project cars. There is nothing wrong with finding and rescuing cars for others to have a project. God bless y'all.
Thanks Matt for your kind words! We appreciate you!
I agree with Matt you and Christina are awesome keep up the great work God bless you🙏✨️
Who complained?
I like that car. I think this car would grow on most people. It's got a lot of character/style. I wish someone would bring this type of car build back. The details, even on the smallest parts are great. If I could I'd take a car like this one fix it so it's reliable and safe to drive but I think I would leave the body looking like it does but for a little body work here and there.
Right on!
Great video it's amazing the difference a little hard work makes
Thanks Howard! I think you and me are going to have to tackle the VW this summer! If anyone else reads this, Howard and Richard are my two main instructors/teachers.
Richard I’m glad to see you’re wearing a mask it’s also good idea to remind people when they’re working on the brakes on these old cars is to be aware that the brake shoe lining may be made out of asbestos and to take the proper precautions when working or handling them.
You're right. Cars that have been siting around are more dangerous than people might think.
Whenever you see snake remnants in or around an old car, thank them, they were killing the mice, which will absolutely destroy a cars, wiring, interior and even worse rust not including the god awful smell👍
What a difference a good clean up makes is this going to be another cool upholstery job
Oh my goodness! I think I would have worn a HazMat suit...lol. That was the most filth and degradation I've ever seen. Makes you feel sorry for the poor car. But you guys did a great job of getting it cleaner! Awesome! Thanks for sharing, Richard and Christina! 👋😎
Thanks David! Always appreciate your comments.
Great work on that old car , thanks for sharing.
You're welcome Darren!
Sir Richard and Madame Christina... my grand doodles would clean even the rust off for gifts cards ( or the one most like me, 25 in cash) and Poppa taking them to Outback or Olive Garden.😂😂... touche’... I love you two ❤️😍✊🏾👍🏾
Y'all did a great job on that car! And Christina you did a great job shining her up!! 💕
Many thanks 😊 🙏
You guys give it your all and I appreciate your dedication to entertaining us. I laugh at your story about your grandfather and the spit shine. I figured it would end with you in trouble for spitting. We granddads are a great source of information 😂😂 for those young impressionable minds. Thanks guys for all you do. 👍👍🇨🇦
Thanks Dan! Always appreciate your comments.
You are right you can't save every car but if you part it out for other people that's great 👍.
Thanks Cynthia!
Love your videos! You all do what's best for the cars you rescue! Don't be bothered with the negativity!!!!!!🙏😇
Thanks Donna! We appreciate you 🙏
You are very welcome!!!!We love your videos watching one as I write this!!!!You 2 are awesome together!!!🤗😇🙏🤗😇🙏
And you had to let it Saute in the Tennessee summer sun before beginning! Great job you two!
I understand it's a labor of love, bringing back these cars, spending more than it's worth. Then again as you said, parting them out to save other people's cars....
It's a touch nut to crack.
And you did very well with that interior....
Thanks Howard! We appreciate you 🙏
Richard certainly has a thing for early '50's Chevys.
If you've ever driven one you'll understand why. They just have a certain "magic" about them. I had a '50 Chevy back in the very early 60's and am still partial to them to this day.
I agree a car in this shape needs to to be parted for cars that could use the hard to find parts to give them a new life. Unfortunately there is not enough money to restore something like this. Good show 👍❤
Thanks Lynn!
Awesome to see the 50s Styleline. Wish I could find them here in Alabama
I agree with you that the car should be parted out to people that need certain parts. To me it's too far gone to get it back on the road again. Great job in cleaning it up!!
Thanks Vincent 😊
I understand what you guys are saying. I once had a '79 Plymouth Volare that I was extremely attached to, and attempted to restore. The engine needed a facelift, but the body and transmission were in good shape. The problem was that nearly every plastic piece on the car was broken, and nothing for the car was produced anymore. The parts I needed were nearly impossible to find, and were prohibitively expensive when I did find them. Despite the fact that the car ran and was in good overall condition, it would have taken decades and I would have spent many times what the car was worth to fix it. I loved that car, but sometimes you have to know when to say when.
Just love your videos keep up the good work 👍brightening up winter days near Liverpool , England 👏
Well, seeing what sad shape this old car is in, I agree with you in the thought that perhaps it's best to make it a donor. Like you said, there could be people looking for parts for their project cars that are really hard to find and the decision to part it out is probably the best thing to do.
Agree. Thanks Gary.
Really good if someone buy it like it is and have the time and cash... I have -50 coupe myself and brought it to life. Took years... But worth it.
You are braver then me, I would be wearing a hazmat suit for that job!😮 Happy New Year by the way. You a very, very very lucky person, your wife is also very, very, very blessed. Love 😘 you guys and all info/ education!!!
Christina is not afraid to get dirty! Cool. As I am watching you clean out that car I keep backing away from the screen, as if the dirt is coming at me! HA
Oh trust me I get plenty dirty, sunburn, eaten by bugs, cut by thorns from pricker bushes and branches, break nails and have achy feet from standing 8 plus hours recording video. I just never let you see it🤣🤣🤣
@@christinarust6957 It's a blast watching both of you working and saving old forgotten cars. I look forward to your next video. You are a great helper for Richard, Christina. I'm 75 and I still get under my old car and work on it!
I'm kinda glad I didn't have to deal with a disgusting interior when I bought Edna. The bench was the only interior she had.so I basically started with a blank canvas. I replaced the driver side floor pan. Repainted everything in the original color. Replaced all seals. Then added sound deadening and bought all new upholstery kit and carpet. Now she's like new inside
I took a look. Sweet truck!
@@christinarust6957 thanks so much !!
You really did a great job on the chrome parts
Thanks 😊
I like the full length handrail in the rear of the front seat.
Our 52 Chevy Lula has that as well.
Excellent video Christine :) , Richard :) also surprised how clean up nice as could on vacuum and bath! Yes you doing excellent job Christine :) and brighter up for sure too!
Thanks Andrew! Always look forward to your comments!
Welcome you both Christian :) also Richard :) !
That's a fabulous looking car. sadly I fear it needs too much welding.
Love the chrome parts inside.
You should see Brent at Halfass Kustoms weld. This car would be a breeze for him.
Agree. As always, thanks for watching!
Glad you have a mask on. There's bound to be mold in that interior.
GREETINGS FROM BRAZIL RICHARD AND CRISYINA I LOVE THE WAY YOU TWO WORK ALL TIME GLAD YOUS MAKE ME FEEL 16 AGAIN MAY GOD BLESS YOU TWO
God Bless you Silvino. Thank you for watching.
Great job on the cleaning .Yeah I agree with you on the part's car. Though there are people out there with the tool's to ,make their own sheet metal parts . Even the frame is worth money has some of these cars have bad frame's As always I liked and shared. All the best from,Upper east Tennessee.
Thanks Bobby!
wow what a mess guys but as always you guys rock.😎👍
Thanks Joe!
Hey guys....love love love your videos....especially the ones that show early 50s cars....chevrolet especially ......well done good job....And Christina don't let the negative comments get you down your going great....you and Richard make a terrific team.....if your parting out the black chevrolet and you don't mind posting to Australia....I'm desperately trying to find the chevrolet script on the dash....cigarette lighter and ash tray....cheers Dave in Australia 🇦🇺
We would love to help you out Dave. Just send us an email to rdb6x@yahoo.com.
You did well to rescue the car from where it was, and I think you are right to part it out or sell it to someone who has a particular interest in further work on it. It looks like it has a lot of good body and trim parts, but the rust on floor level and below probably means it would be a lot of work to restore. I wonder how rusty the frame is. It was probably pretty luxurious for a Chevy in its day, because it was fully equipped with automatic transmission and radio, and all that upholstery and padding that you had so much fun cleaning out. I think what you needed for the headliner was a gardening tool of some sort, like a plastic rake with a short handle... ☺☺☺
A rake would've worked great! I'll remember that next time! Hmmm...words I never thought I'd say 2 years ago 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks John!
@1:57 that scraper looking thing is also a knife. It's a doughknife used in hand bread making to divide the mixed dough Into the required sizes .three generatons in my family were bakers .that could be 50 or more years old.😁
Back in the 80s my dad and I only used lacquer paint. It was almost idiotproof. He used to say :" I could paint a car with a broom and bring out a nice shine with rubbing compound."
So true.
Totally awesome works great to clean up. Use that with a green pot scrubber
Thanks Angelo!
I love your shirt Richard. I want one. Love you guys and your videos
Thanks Harry! I ordered that from Amazon.
It is what it is, original parts have to come from somewhere, one vehicle like this could save another 10. Good job guys.
Thanks Kev!
Your Right Christina Some Car's have to be a Doner So other Car's Can live Again, And some people have to understand that you did a great job of cleaning her up 👍
🙂🙂🙂
thankyou another great program well done.
Thanks Brett!
Good job you two nice job cleaning that car
Thanks Rich! Much appreciated 🙏
😍Oh wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍
You can't save them all but maybe you can get some parts out of this one boy that thing was a mess inside always enjoy your videos
Thanks David 😊
I've given up on the burnt Chevy I really hoped you would restore it! I just restored a burnt mower that caught a fire 🔥 while I was working on it! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Christ is the main mechanic!
Don't give up Wayne. That Chevy is on the list!
@@whattherust Praise God
It would be awesome to get that classic back on the road!
Hi Richard & Christina, greetings from Scotland 🏴.
That was an awful mess that you both had to deal with. ( Nice job on the dashboard Christina ).
The patina is superb on the car. It’s a pity that it’s so far gone.
I do hope someone buys it with a view to getting it running and perhaps modifying bits and pieces.
Personally I think a good rub and a couple of coats of clear and it’ll look just fine.
It’s a real stylish car and deserves to be restored.
Cheers 🥃
John.
Thanks very much John. I'd love to see it kept together as well.
I think you did a fantastic job cleaning that car up
Thanks Jimmie!
@@whattherust You are very welcome
Richard you and Christina do a really great job getting cars and trucks running and clean up I really enjoy your videos
Thank you for the nice comment Doug. Your support means a lot to us.
Christina Even though you didn't want to do it your a little Trooper your so funny 🤣 and Cool 👍
Thank Robert! Appreciate you 🙏
Yeeech! You guys are brave!
That one came with the Bluetooth floor package. It's an incredibly rare option, lol.
Hahaha 😆
Christina just remember what Liberace used to say when he got a bad review from a critic: "I cried all the way to the bank".
Just saw your comment. Love it! Thanks so much!
Thanks!
Terry we appreciate your support 🙏 There have been about 5 or 6 viewers that have donated to the channel, and I must tell you, it's so motivating and brings a smile to our face! Thank you so much!
Christina you should been with me cleaning out a 46 Chevy I had with 6-8” deep rat droppings in the quarters. I didn’t wear a mask when I started and got sick with a sinus infection.
Oh no! I saw no signs of rodents. But of course there were snakes all over that property. We found lots of snake skins and I took them to my grandson! He loved them 👍😆
With that much rust it's probably best to part it out. Sad, but true. Lots and lots of good parts there!
I have a 64 dodge 440 2 door hardtop and it doesn’t have seatbelts or flashers but it is an automatic with ps pb and air conditioning so when I seen this early 50s Chevy with seatbelts it kinda made me think about how cars were equipped back then.
The seat belts were added on. 50 Chevy's didn't have them, or at least mine didn't. Seat belts are a part of the 60's era.
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
She's a beaut, Clark! lol That one's pretty bad, but I have seen worse. I bought a car with 7 dead cats in it once. Another time, I bought a '71 and '73 VW fastbacks from an estate sale. Both had been sitting with the windows down for years, and both were stuffed to the gills with VW parts for every make and model through the mid 70's. It took several days to clean them out, but I made good money selling the parts. I made more on the parts than I got for the cars, but they both went to a good home and were fully restored by their new owner.
Great story with a wonderful ending! Thanks for sharing Jesterr!
Richard and Christina, we love your video's. You are amazing and such sweet people. Greetings and love from your dutch fans
Thanks for the support Robbie!
That's a pretty crusty rig for sure 😊. You could have used one of those commercial leaf blowers and made quick work of a lot of the dirt. Good job on the cleaning 👍
I would like to see it run again 👍
Wow what a mess! You did pretty well considering!
Hi Christina. Last year when you started to get your hands dirty, I wanted to comment to you about wearing a cap with a pony tail and a pair of overalls, just like Ella Raines in the movie " Impact ". I see you have gone with the cap which looks good. Good work girl.
You know that movie is on RUclips, free to watch. But I'll never understand why they wore white at service stations back then. Thanks for watching! I appreciate you!
Wow what a difference on everything in or on that car keep uo tge good work hopefully u two washed behind your ears just saying it was pretty dirty u 2 r some weekend warriors forure
Right! There was definitely a ring around the bathtub those days! Thanks Tanner, we appreciate you 🙏
I'm not too sure in which episode it was when when Richard asked for advice about the Dip stick oil thing.
It was like "Why is it that the first time I look at old car oil, it looks grubby and horrible. But when I check and look again, it looks fine."
My guess is that the dip stick grabs local surface tension dirt/dust & when you first pull the oil stick out, you get some attached to the oil stick.
Next time, you get to go in , you first wash it, put it in a clear hole and will give a clearer result.
Something like that.
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the tip!
Kinda funny--Christina's in there with the broom, knocking crap headliner off the ceiling. I'm sitting here, watching this on my laptop, and squinting and closing my eyes so that yuck doesn't get into my eyes. This screen's got great resolution, I guess.
Wow,that car was really Nasty. You did an awesome job with what you had to work with.
Thanks James!
well this was an interesting video. What a mess. Wife and I was watching this and wife commented "when does the rat tail come in view"? What she was referring to was when i brought in a 54 2dr. She was helping me clean it out just like you two and she was up front passenger side when this long pink hairless tail came down from behind the dash. The Schreck she let out and the mad dash away from that car. I didnt hear the last of that for days. In point of fact she brought it up again 40 years latter. TODAY LOLOLO
On the master cylinder being a automatic. Your absolutely correct its worth a lot cause they don't make them as rebuilds now. BUT National chevy association has a conversion kit to take the two peddle and convert it over to a one pedal for use in automatic cars. I have several I have kept as the rebuild kits are still out there.
Great story! Only a few of us truly understand and relate to rat stories such as yours 😆 I personally like being one of the few that can relate! Big thanks to both of you for watching!
While I am a HUGE advocate of saving and restoring these old classics, what Christina said does make a lot of sense. As the fictional Mr. Spock once said, "The needs of the many outweigh the the needs of the one". While this car could be saved and brought back to life, it is a car that would be needed by a weekend tinkerer that doesn't want to make it a show car but just to have a project to play around with. By the way, will the fender skirts fit the green Chevy?
Thanks Richard! Good question about the skirts. I'll need to have Richard take a look.
Hey Rich, give a Comet and Brillo pad bath and you'll be surprised what comes out !!!!
Thanks for the tip Ed!
1:29 I thought this was great! LOL. You should always start everything with Prayer to Jesus! LOL. Awesome!
Ootte niin mahtava pari pelastaa Luxus autoja💖☺️👍🧸
Thank you. We appreciate you watching.
Great video
Thanks Leslie! Appreciate you watching!
If that car was in the UK I would make a new floor for it and cruise around in it like it is!
Awesome job....that's a beeeeg difference..
I don`t blame you for parting that car out, one good whack and you could sweep it up and put it in the bin!😂
Right! Every time I shut the door more of the car feel off😆
@@christinarust6957 LOL
That was pretty creepy but in the end it was a beautiful transformation
It was creepy! Thanks Darren 😊
Wow you guys really have your work cut out for you on this one !!!! Holy cow, what a mess !!!!!!!
Speaking of one armed monkeys, my first truck I bought I was 15. It was a Mazda , 4 years old and it was a painters truck. The entire truck was covered in paint, It was so bad the dealer couldnt sell it, until I came around, I couldnt drive for almost a year so I sat there every day with dupont rubbing compound and began my task, When I turned 16 I had a brand new truck. good times.
Great story! Thanks for sharing Rich!
Nice chain
Good job
Thanks Dale! Much appreciated 🙏
Wind the clock and see if it still runs. I did mine and it worked great 😂
Save it. New floor pans. To good to part out or rust away.
We did. It didn't work. But I do think the clock design is pretty cool.
Save the visor’s internal hardware for rebuilding later. Also save anything for a pattern for later restoration.
Many people have made that comment!
The design on these old cars is so beautiful; you can see that the quality of the materials was superior. A shame to see them decaying like this.
Agreed.
The rotted dashboard reminded me of my 1968 Buick Special the previous owner was a fast food freak and left a pile of salt packages on the dash
@ 12:20: I hope that wasn't a recluse spider. It looked similar.
The worst thing about leaving those rubber floor mats in as they are excellent for creating thecpeefect climate for rust. Their good to have when operating the vehicle but should be removed orca least flipped up when long idle periods occur. I always pull the shaped mat on my old truck when the truck is outside and idle for long periods especially in the humid summer weather.
Thanks for sharing 👍 I did not know that.
Hi y’all from west Alabama
Great job. I'm sure some of the parts on that car are as rare as rocking horse sh*t and will make someone extremely happy 🙂. One car can put several others back on the road.
Thanks Ian! I agree.
aww, so much decay! haven't seen seats that bad in a while... and that car had leaky window sealings and was constantly under water inside.
"Oh, we can see the floor!" and there I thought, "LOL what floor?" and then you lifted the floormat and there was... nothing. XD I have seen plastic mats hard as glass on much newer cars. amazing this is still recognizable. XD
poor car, though. but maybe someone will restore it and bring it back on the road, now that everyone's come so far.
It would be great if someone brought it back, but it would take a lot of time.
@@whattherust and a lot of hand-hammered pieces of tin... XD
Agree 100 percent. Some cars need to be part cars unless it is a 1957 chevy or coarse. it would make sense to save the car if it was a 1955 or 1957 chevy.
Agree! Thanks Benji!
It was well on it's way back to nature!
True!
Bio Hazard made easy top off with a crust of rust for that crispy taste of reto-poverty.
Floor pans for that car a cheap and easy to get luckily
I believe y'all needed to start out with a Leaf Blower!!
Good.job😄👍👍👏👏👏Nice😍
Thank you!
