I take every edelbrock off and throw it on a shelf. The ones who hate holleys don't know how to work on them or don't have the right one for their application. I've made money off that statement more times than I'd like to admit.
"This holley is junk" okay bet you I can make it right. Let me see it and if it doesn't work right when I'm done, then I owe you money. Not once have I lost money on those bets.

@@mark63366Well every single one of my vehicles run a holley all the way to my blown big block tow truck running two dominators on the street and not a single one is down because of carb choice. The reason why people love edlebrock is mostly laziness. Holleys require effort to be tuned. They don't hold all the fuel for you when disassembled so some hate that or don't clean and prep the surfaces correctly so they can't get them to seal. Or over tighten the screws and warp them. Edelbrock is simple and people like what they think is easier. I like a challenge and I'm not one to always take the easy way out. The fact is both carbs can be just as reliable. Anyone who says otherwise is very misinformed.

@DeadDodgeGarage Jamie, this is a savagely cool C body. I appreciate the white 300 poptop most,, but this SuperTanker would have been absolutely the most bitchin' prom car a kid could have wished for. I did a fair job with landing a 67 Coronet 500 convert in cherry red for my junior prom,,, and a 68 Polara convertible in daffodil yellow for my senior prom. I guess now, I wouldn't change anything because those moments were absolutely nirvana as I look back.... but now I have a 68 300 poptop and a 66 Polara poptop to add to my high-school cars as well as a few others.
Anyhow,,,, this blue meany is absolutely gorgeous..... and it's even prettier in my minds eye!

I just could not get it to run right. Then, I bought a 780 T-Quad off a 77 Cordoba 400 for $20, bolted it on, and it worked great. One carb kit and 35 years later, it still works just fine.

I like all the old carbs. My 68 Chrysler 300 convertible was my first car and it had a Holly carb from the factory that ran perfect, didn’t leak. When Holleys get old, semi clogged and you try to tune them, leaks will spring up like crazy. I love Hollys. Edelbrocks are nice that you tune them once and they are set and forget. I run one on my 67 Skylark, only retuned it once when we moved out of elevation in Colorado. That carb has run perfect for 25 years, holds a perfect tune, no leaks or clogs. I love Edelbrocks. I just rebuilt my Rochester Quadrajet last week. Naturally I had just bragged it up on someone’s channel in my comment. I am deep into a huge refurbishment of a Korean War vintage giant military truck. So I ordered a cheap quadrajet knock off on eBay because I need that car running for a car show and I had a fresh nightmare of one I did a year ago and figured I will just rebuild my sweet original one after this military truck is done and gone. Had to have the car running fast with as little time spent as possible. The knockoff comes and it looks nice, they usually come set wide open on the idle, knowing that, best practice on almost any knock off carb is turn down the idle big time before firing it up. The fuel mixture screws are usually set fairly decently, usually best to vacuume tune those. The only other thing is check timing, in my case the engine is 100% custom and the cam information was lost 25 years ago. So if it was affected by the knock off I know I have to play with timing more advanced than a normal engine. So this knock off, no matter what would not run the motor, as I am adjusting on it, I can start the motor but can barely keep it running, I smell gas and this thing is leaking from what appears to be three different spots and I about burned the back of my hand on the electric choke, something inside must have shorted and turned the whole electric choke body to become pistol hot. That pistol hot and gas leaks have started puddles. Took the choke out of the equation and it still would not adjust out. Called the guy, he apologized and said he would immediately send another one. I get my rebuild kit out and it was so fast and so easy. The original carb had just coated itself internally of dried up gasoline additive gum, dust and grime from the three different motors I had it on in at least 25 years or so ago when I bought it used off a hot running motor. It runs absolutely perfectly again. So now I have two knockoffs, a known bad one and a new untested one, never left it’s box. I love Quadrajets, not digging the knockoffs yet but will try the second knockoff on the next motor that needs one after this truck is out of here.

I agree that the hardtops are better than the ragtops. I like the original dual exhaust, too bad your green one does not have it. It needs it. One thing that often works on flooding carburetors. Probably the needle does not seal due to crap on it. If you run the engine with the fuel line removed and empty the bowl, the float valve opens and the junk comes off. Then, when you reinstall the fuel, it actually seals when the float rises. But you are correct, these holleys installed in the factory regular 440s were known to be terrible, and most people replaced them with Carters.

There is a whole story about the factory OEM Mopar Holley carbs, confirmed to me from talking to old time mechanics. They came on some big block Mopars from 1968 to 1972. Others of the same years had AVS's and, for 1972 400's a Thermoquad. So, the OEM carbs were made to a bid, meaning cost reduced. They leaked and had other problems. The dealers had orders to fix them about 3 times, and then no more.
I think swapping fuel bowl and metering block gaskets, maybe milling things, were the first line of warranty repair attack . But, after three repars, a carb retro fit to the previous year's carb was authorized. For example, a 68 Chrysler 300 350 hp, auto, California, would have a AFB from a 1967 Chrysler 300 350 hp, auto, California.
A 72 Road Runner GTX California Auto would get a AVS from 71 440 GTX auto, California. Including the fuel lines, air cleaner in some cases, fuel pump. The price of this swap was some where around 1800 dollars!. Which is nearly half the cost of the whole car!
And that was Chrysler warranty paying the bill.
Both the cars listed above had been converted before I bought them.
I have no idea why the warranty substitution did not use a SAME year Carter from a different application rather than a PREVIOUS year carb from the SAME application, but I am guessing it was expected to fly better with the government.
On the other hand, I had another 1972 GTX 440 Auto with the original Holley and it performed great and had now leaks or other issues, but it was relatively new.
So, if you hate the OEM Holleys that does not mean you have to hate performance Holleys.
If I had a 68 with the carb missing (I actually do) I would not go out of my way to find an original Holley for that application. They are hard to find (though not expensive) and rebuild kits are very hard to find and none have modern materials.
I think I would use either a modern 1850 or a 3310. I would consider putting side pivot fuel bowls on the 3310. Either requires the linkage extension space the linkage out toward the passenger valve cover where it needs to be. That is about twenty dollars from Holley.

I had to think back a few.. well not long but it was still a struggle... my non-tilt wheel M body had a droopy turn signal lever, and no brake lights, nor was it signaling my turns. It turned out the screw that holds the lever on had stripped threads. It had come so far out of holding it down that it lost contact to it's contacts. Local hardware store trip fixed that with a new screw & some thread locker.

@@DeadDodgeGarage One more option. Imp introd "stereo" in mid '67 and also offered 8 track at the same mid year time. The stereo multiplexer was in it's own metal box under one of the seats. I believe they ended the reverberator option when stereo started. But I could be wrong and you could check both '68s by pulling or pushing the fader knob inside the audio controls vestibule. If all it does is spin, then it's not reverb equipped. I figured you'd know what one is and you might have an interest being...guitar. So this was just about the reverb, those two cars don't have the door mounted speakers that came with stereo and/or 8 track.

introduced in 1965 models, the exclusive Imperial gauge "Sentry Signal" keeps an eye on your gauges for you. Low fuel or oil pressure, overheating, and no charge status are reported to the driver as soon as trouble arises. Soon to be replaced with individual LED bulbs at each gauge.
*Not to be confused with automatic lighting "Sentinel".

Works great to burn out stumps as well, even in wet climates. Drill a bunch of holes in the stump and keep filling them with your waste oil/gas mix as it soaks in. It’ll push out the natural moisture and soak up the oil into the wood. Throw a fire ring around it and have a bonfire on the stump, it’ll burn right down into the dirt 👍

Always loved an Imperial over the rest of the other C Bodies because they were fitted with the latest components. I had a Holley 500 2 barrel on my '77 Sport Fury 318, and shutting the engine off was an invitation for the float to stick on the down side just dumping raw fuel ⛽ just as the original carb forced me to swoop it out. Found out all I needed to do use a Ford wrench on it 😅. Enjoy 😊

I had one of these cars for a short while. My complaint was the power window noise. These were not the 64-66 Imperials, a few things were notably less substantial... I wonder if rubber mounts can be used on the power window regulator attaching points. I sold mine before I could monkey with that.
So, Mechanic, when you're cleaning and greasing the window tracks, don't forget to clean out the power window transmission/motor, and grease. There's a shaft end play screw on the motor to adjust to the fastest speed.
The noisy power window issue says good-bye 1966, hello C-body.
