Just a small correction, Meraxes was the dragon of Queen Rhaenys, sister-wife of Aegon the Conqueror. The other dragon should be Tyraxes, the dragon of Joffrey Velaryon.
Y'all simply have to stop whining. Please. For the love of all decency. For the love of sanity. Just stop.
You say Dreamfyre lays Danaerys' eggs like that's a fact but it's only conjecture. I believe that Dany's eggs are the three that were sold off to the Sea Lord of Bravos during Jahearys reign but there's no proof of that.
Nobody noticed that Otto was fidgeting with his fingers when talking to alicent, they have the same quirk
“I lost an eye but I gained a dragon.”
Aemond really rode a dragon once and started spitting fire.
Stephan to his former Urkel.
Hahah
Just wait until the future episodes
@@johnfilantres250 this reference is gold
@newrockstars is this newrockstars1 a phisher?
Best episode yet,not much violence or nudity but pure drama and poetry
@@chriscella3076 i also like this one cs everyone has a part on it,and the kids acting is also good
if someone laughed through my sister's funeral like the way Deamon did, I would have punched em
@@burundianfamily2982 it was ironicly funny but he realy should not laugh😆
Yes, best episode till now!!!!
You don't have to remove violence or nudity to have a good episode. If done correctly, they both can drive the story. Look at GOT season 1 & 2
Alicent's call for an eye from "any of them" harkens back to Cercei's call for a dire wolf to die when Joffrey was attacked.
First thing that came to my mind while watching the episode
I mean eye for an eye right!
I think Daemon laughed in order to draw attention away from his Rhenera’s kids since shade was being thrown at them.
No, he's a troll. Very irreverent.
@@februaryschild0216 Daemon and the Uncle don’t get along, and the uncle was in fact throwing shade at family blood not thinning. Daemon laughed because it’s bull and in fact laughable.
I totally missed that ordeal, just thought it's a funeral thing in valarian
If that was his intention, he most likely achieved the opposite though 🤦🏻♂️
@@aileenpi73 Of all the time throughout the days, on the day of your niece's funeral you want to start shit
I like the little things Daemon does to protect Rhaenyra throughout the episode.
I was hoping hed kill criston lmao
like how he stopped criston Cole when Alicent had dagger on their heir
13:06 As a horse rider, I can attest: having your mount shake underneath you (a horsequake, if you will) feels like getting your spine rearranged. Being mounted on a 3 story dragon shaking itself would probably have enough force to snap your neck if you were caught off guard.
Aemond’s scene with Vaghar was perfect! We now will see him properly buckle in for each ride! 👏
Ahhh, I see your foreshadowing there. 😉
He will never drop from the saddle, indeed, until the watery end.
Lol
@@Largueirus too far!
nice spot I didn't think about that
I think it's worth noting that Rhaenyra and Daemon cut themselves with dragon glass (made by fire) in their wedding ceremony.
I came to the comments to see if anyone caught that as well! 🔥
Admittedly Emma D'Arcy & Olivia Cooke are better than I originally thought they would be. However, it is a shame that Millie & Emily are just gone.
They said they might comeback in season 2 for flash backs
Milly
yeah i’m still not over it 😕 I really liked the original actors
I want Millie back.
@@youtubemom497 I think in the BTS they mentioned that Olivia and Emma are actually the original actresses or were casted first. Then the younger girls were added on afterwards. But I understand what u mean and I will miss them too 😭
I think the darkness in lighting was done so much better in this episode compared to The Long Night, because here it creates an ambience of secrecy and is led by the dialogue, whereas in The Long Night, we actually needed to SEE the story happening
It was better but still not great.
I'm all for a few scenes like that but it was too much of the episode.
My only complaint.
@@toooriginal3816 Yeah, the color correction during the scene where it was supposed to be around dusk was really weird. I thought my TV was broken because instead of actually color-grading it so it looked like sunset, they just desaturated it and brought the brightness down. You could clearly see in the reflections on things like armor that it was still the middle of the day when they were filming.
I could see it
@@toooriginal3816 bigger budget for lighting this time around....😁
I get so much more out of each HotD episode through these commentaries. Many Thanks!
I’ve watched at least 5 different videos discussion the episode. I can’t get enough
Me too. There’s so many review videos
But this was the best.
With the scene in the dark being dialogue based it wasn’t as bad as the battle of Winterfell because that was a whole load of action that we didn’t get to see. I do hope we don’t get a repeat any time soon in either circumstance though, they need to improve their night effects drastically.
The Night shot felt as if there is a solar eclipse occuring that's why the low light and another bad omen on the family
I thought exactly the same...
Me too. I thought it was cool!
It's all filters. Kinda cool.
I’m confused as to why Larys wasn’t at Harrenhal for his father & brothers funerals and instead on Driftmark, seeing as how Larys would be the head of house strong now.
Because their funerals were off camera.
The Bug Juice reference made my night. Thanks for that! That theme song pops into my head quite a bit, but I didn’t think anyone remembered the old Disney Channel classic.
I actually didn't mind the dark scenes on the beach. I actually felt like the imagery set a mood...and I also felt like it was quite realistic. Think about being on the beach at night, particularly in a non populated area. It's quite dark.
Same!
I had to squint a bit but i didn’t mind at all
I had to check if my TV was working properly 🤣
I was honestly touched when Aemond protected his mother by throwing the hot potato at Aegon, and Aegon catching it with nary a blink to protect both sibling and mother. There is loyalty too here.
Flying through the seagulls really makes me think this wasn't originally supposed to be night.
I loved Aemond's flight with Vhagar. To me, it felt like Vhagar was testing him. At first with the reins, testing his resolve. Then Aemond mounted the dragon and was taken on a series of more tests to see if he could withstand what it takes to be a dragon rider, from the sharp incline, to the dive, the birds as aerial obstacles, and then to see if the boy could steer. At the end, Aemond passed and the two settled into an easier flight before landing.
young sporthorses do this too :)
I looked at it as Vhagar being the biggest oldest most battle tested. I think the ride might be that bumpy always as you can see when he takes off Vhagar has a hard time getting to a actual flight and keeping altitude. His turns seemed slower and sluggish as well. Maybe a mixture of a test and just the dragon Vhagar is at this time in it's life.
@@anyagetman8596 had no idea, thats awesome!! I’ve always wanted to ride one.
Emma and Olivia are so good at their roles! Very convincing!
Laenor will live on and become the ancestor of Greyworm! 🙂
that would have been a great backstory
I was hoping for that, but others have mentioned that his "son" comes back to deal with betrayal, so Laenor will likely do that himself. Two of the dragon seeds defect.
Yeah as he was rowing away I thought he looked very similar to grey worm least I'm not only one lol. Also would be pretty kool if he some how ended up been his ancestor 👍
I LOVED the Bug Juice callback!! 🥰
Okay i found THE ONE
I dont get that one
Yaaaaasssss!!!
One mistake there Baby Joffrey's dragon is Tyraxes not Meraxes. Meraxes was Oueen Rhaenys's dragon during the conquest and died in Dorne.
I think Haelena's spider in the shell was predicting Larys' future with the Valyrons. I think Aegon said "mother". I could see Alicent kicking him awake from being drunk. Daemon's conversation with Viserys was heartbreaking. The look on Matt Smith's face was gutting.
Larys never sides with the Velaryons
The subtitles does say "brother" which confused me!
@@SantomPh stay away from the wiki lol
I got the Bug Juice reference and I appreciated it 😂 Those were the days
I wonder what's going to happen to SeaSmoke? Will it follow Laenor to the stepstones or will it remain at Dragonstone or Driftmark?
The books saying that Lainor having a bastard son is a joke and we all know it. He will cone back claiming to be his own bastard son . . Putting it out there like he might have actually sired those kids after all ;). .
@@hhholsteiners considering Addam of Hull is basically the Strong Boys all over again (bastards with mother claiming Leanor is the father), I won't miss him too much.
Leanor returning to fight would be quite epic since the battle Addam enters is to avenge disloyalty-and Leanor is loyal
@@hhholsteiners the speculation is that Addam is actually Corlys' bastard.
@@hhholsteiners "hello fellow kids" ;-)
changing things create plot holes. that was bad writing
Best part was when Alicient slapped Aegon, can someone make that a meme 😂😂😂
Like Tyrion slapping Joffrey. 🤣
"What was that for?" xD
This has been one of the best episode so far. The way Aemon found his dragon and Rhaenyra found hers, just showed the contrast between them, and a great foreshadowing.
How did Rhaenyra find hers?
I must be crazy, because I thought the night shots were GORGEOUS in this episode...And instantly knew it was an Arri Alexa. They really looked that bad to you??? I loved them.
Looked perfectly fine on my TV too!
Yea most TVs can’t handle dark scenes unless it’s highend LG, Sony or Samsung… It was beautiful!!
@@persaud101 Ah, I hadn't thought of that. Yeah, I have a Samsung. It was stunning.
The perfect solution to the inheritance of Driftmark was the same as the inheritance of the kingdom. Marry Jace and Baela, Baela becomes queen. (Likely to be more of an equal than Alicent.) And Luke and Rhaena wed and inherit Driftmark. You keep the name and the blood.
Shocked he missed that they used dragon glass to cut their hands and lips
I got the Bug Juice reference! I sing it all the time and people rarely know what I’m referring to!
You didn't mention anything about the seahorse toy that Lucerys is playing with (it's plainly silhouetted on top of the retaining wall) when Lord Corlyss tells him, he'll inherit Driftmark one day. Symbolism?
The dragon was testing his riding capabilities like a horse would.
Me and my brothers and sisters loved Bug Juice as kids. It was like The Real World camp edition for adolescents lol
10:10 This was definitely too dark to see. I put my brightness all the way up and still, couldn't really see. Great review btw, I can always count on you to have an explanation for the writing and the cinematography of shows lol. You always just have the deepest explanations for every shot
"The long night" sends its regards
Why do I find myself changing allegiances with each episode 🤦🏼♂️
Such a mastery of breaking down requires extreme hard work,.Thank you for helping us understand it very well.
The series is just Heating up! What a great episode!
Great work guys. I’m always looking forward to your break downs. Keep up the good work!
I love how you explained it! Thank you!
I think that the actor playing Aemond is so good,
Even though he won't be a likeable character, but his emotions seem on point...
I guess he's gonna be a great actor growing up,
The Bug Juice reference made me smile, thanks for that!
Thank you for not trying to justify or excuse that abysmal directorial choice of making the scene impossible to see.
I had no issues with darkness this episode, it surprises me that a lot of people couldn't see anything.
Same. I also had no probs with GoT 8x3.
You're so on point with pointing out the bad lighting.. I thought I was going crazy trying to fix it
Oh i love tht our little prince doesn't want driftmark because tht would mean everyone died and he doesn't want tht...*sigh* the good doesn't last long in this series tho sadly
That bug juice reference was for me. 👏🏽
Well done! You are the only reactor who noticed the necklace! And I came to understand the plot more and its hidden symbolisms after watching this! Kirimvose!!!
9:42 I thought it was an eclipse for a minute. 🌑 😅 It did make the dragon scene slightly cooler, seeing the flames build up in the dragon's mouth. 🐲🤓 You're so right about not everyone owning OLED TVs. I watched this on my HTC Desire, which is the device I'm using to watch this video and comment right now. This thing is 7 years old and it still works, but I had to turn off my lights and turn up the brightness all the way up to see what was happening!
Helaena also says that The Hand is weaving the threads!
i was pretty sure that was what demon was implying to ser qarl when he said in essos only your coin purse matters and I wasn't surprised to see laenor alive towards the end there.
Thx for explaining the darkness of the episode w/ exposure etc.
The best analysis I've seen. Well done! Thanks 😊
Another good one, I live for these recaps
I watched the episode once on HBOMax and once through HBO on cable. The spectrum version was MUCH brighter than the streaming app. I could actually see what was happening. Turns out, I'd missed like half the episode the night before.
Thank you for addressing the darkness of some scenes.
Thank you for the Bug Juice reference. Needed it!
Aemons flight definitely had 'Test Drive' from How to Train Your Dragon vibes
Amen for the brightness riff
Wow you got a lot of details I missed, thanks!
THANKS for that bug juice reference! I went to camp highlander. You brought back so many memories!! Haha. Cheers to the 30 something’s 🥂
Thank you for lighting these scenes! It’s so hard to see otherwise
I only just realized now that the kings entire left arm is gone. Noticeable at 14:54 with how much the cloth wrangles around.
That family scene was intense. LIke Thanksgiving at my house.
That Bug Juice reference hit deep!
20:33 Pretty sure Meraxes died years before the series during the failed conquest of Dorne
It's the Graeae or Gray Sisters that share one eye in Greek mythology not the Fates
You are simply the best! I can't wait to see your Rings of Fire recap!
Real kids, making friends, having fun on Bug Juice! Love it!
This has honestly gotta be one of my favorite in the whole got universe
just a small correction blacks at this point do NOT have Meraxes, Meraxes died during Aegon's conquest in Dorne
That Bug Juice reference is insane 👌
16:25 it also shows how viserys does not care or want to hear what alicent has to say
Thank you so much, I needed this!!
Hey @newrockstars, a suggestion: turn down all the lights of the room while watching the episode all the scenes become perfectly clear....it worked for me...
The waterslide on Bug Juice was insane!
Not Meraxes. Vermax. Seasmoke not so sure since Leanor has left. Morning as well who's Rhaena's dragon.
YES!!! Been waiting for this for a hundred years hahahaha. But its worth the wait. Thanks!!! You guys rock!
Omg thank you I was wondering why I could see anything during those scenes..
well done, thx
Was immediately thinking of Drakes Fair Trade when I saw Aemond talk about gaining a Dragon in exchange for his eye.
So entertaining, thanks!
Even on my OLED the night scenes were incredibly hard to see. I can't even imagine how they looked on potato TVs 😭 had to turn off the subtitles just so my eyes could attempt to adjust
You were right about one thing
I can't afford a lens :(
Just noticed that they used an obsidian blade (created from lava rapidly cooling) to draw the blood on their lips, maybe an interpretation on the fire and blood description of their valyrian marriage.
it’s supposed to be dragon glass, which is made from fire
@8:50 lol I thought he said mother, as in he was calling for help
Now in the fight with Prince Damean vs Sir Christian Cole I know that Cole won in the end, but did Damean not have him actually defeated in a real fight but then placated to the crowd for the applause and then was hit behind the back? So I would say their skills are at least somewhat equal, especially at this point with the Prince coming back from the war in the step stones. Just a thought. Also the Prince does have you know a dragon....
Every review I’ve read has said completely different dragons from one another in that 5 dragons scene I really want to know which ones they are
That portion of the episode that was dark, was definitely very dark. I personally didn't have much of an issue with seeing it, and didn't mind as the main happenings were dialogue to listen to moreso.
I had more of a problem with it when Aemond was climbing on the Dunes sneaking up to Vhagar. Since that was purely a visual sequence and the darkness hid it too much, but once he reached Vhagar it was all fine again to me.
Didn't mind it too much, but definitely a valid critique.
Sidenote: this mightve been my favourite episode? Which is wild to say because I've loved EVERY episode
great break down
OMG the Bug Juice reference. What a throwback...lol
I loved Big Juice growing up! watched it almost every night.
used to love watching bug juice when i was younger lmao you unlocked a memory for me
I got the bug juice reference. Nice!
20:35 I think you meant Vermax, Jace's dragon not Meraxes, Meraxes is long dead by this timeline.
@eavross Did you really say better than the :15 seconds of the Zapruder Film - brilliant writing!
I definitely got the Bug Juice reference lol
