I’ve been racking my brain on which .308 to get, this one made top three. This video paired with a couple other videos however have made this rifle now fight for number one. Thank you for clearing up compatibility with parts also, that makes things easier!
FYI ive found that Troy ambi mag release for ar-15 did not work on the SFAR. I believe the shaft on the mag release is too short to span the SFAR magwell.
Hey man probably a dumb question but do you think the Tipton "Ultra Gun Vise" would be suitable for performing this hand guard swap? Just want to make sure I don't ruin my gun...lol
I tried a few 308 AR designs that had mid-length gas systems on 16" barrels. None of them functioned with a silencer, and all of them were unsafe to fire with one. They all had extreme bolt velocity, case head destruction, and did not cycle. I was unaware that this was the problem, as several manufacturers continue to use mid-length gas systems on 308 ARs. I asked GA Precision about it, and they said they do not recommend using a silencer on a 308 AR. I asked POF USA if their guns would operate with silencers, and they said no. I purchased a 16" Ruger SFAR, and mounted a silencer on it. After 5 rounds, I had 5 malfunctions, all 5 case heads were destroyed, the recoil was intense, the scope was destroyed, the lower receiver was destroyed, the magpul stock was destroyed, the buffer tube was destroyed, and the charging handle was destroyed. There might have been more damage, but I was unwilling to inspect it nor fire it any more. I've seen several persons claim they have had no issues firing their 16" SFARs with silencers, which I found interesting. The most interesting one was the guy with the completely spotless bolt carrier and the muzzle brake that absolutely has never seen a single round fired through it. It can be seen at 2:17 in this video.
As I have stated before I am reviewing a sample size of 1. Iv heard horror stories of other SFARs having all sorts of issues. But as for mine it has been very reliable and Iv had no issues. Iv run approximately 100-140 rounds of S&B ball though mine suppressed on setting 2 with no issue. No damage to the brass or weapon. I run the HUXWRX HX-QD 762 TI on mine and it does great. I clean my guns after every shoot. If you let the carbon sit on your gun it can stain it and become almost impossible to clean. If you have a weapon that you’re going to trust your life to it should be cleaned. Not caked in carbon.
Quick answer no. The bolt has been lightened and is essentially an AR15 bolt but made to fit 308. The barrel also has relief holes for gas to vent. So if you replaced the barrel the bolt most likely wouldn’t fit. Ruger doesn’t recommend doing it. And for safety reasons I wouldn’t either.
It’s a little bit less room in the factory Hangard, but the feature set on the Midwest industries rail is a lot better than the factory rail, so I see it as a good trade off. I did cut the side of the rail to access the gas block on mine.
@@TheBeardedWretch Thank you for your quick response. How about the 12 o'clock area of the gas block. I know there is only a few thousands clearance between the gas block and the rail which has caused numerous people issues with accuracy.
@@mattbuchan2125 I have clearance on mine I haven’t measured it but I haven’t seen anything that indicates that it’s making contact. My accuracy has not been affected.
Have you run on gas setting 2 unsuppressed?? If so how's it preforming?? 220 rounds in on my 16" & its flawless on 3 but failure to feed on 2. I gave it a really good clean & lube & gonna try some Hornady Super Performance & see if that helps it run on 2????
What exactly did you use to stick yours in a vise and change your muzzle device? Did you just let 'er rip with a magazine block or what exactly did you use to clamp in or around the upper receiver? I'm afraid neither a 308 or 5.56 receiver rod will work because it needs the bolt carrier dimensions of the 5.56 and the bolt and barrel extension dimensions of the .308 and I'm not sure what kind of receiver clamp will fit around the outside the unique receiver. I'm thinking I might just try an old school barrel clamp around the few inches forward of the gas block and hope it holds.
I picked one of these up a lil bit ago, it's still bone stock in the box. I haven't decided on what kind of optic to put on it. I've had no free time to do much of anything, I do have some down time coming up n really wanna get this out to the range. As far as optics go I've been checking out a primary arms 5x prism and a 1-6x scope , im not sure which would be better. It's gonna be mostly just a fun range gun, it would be nice to be able to hit steel at long range (700+yds) what would you recommend ? Thanks. oh yeah ... Nice gun!
I put a 4x16 on mine but my philosophy of use is different.. mines a deer hunting rifle that I can hike mountains and walk 4-8 miles a trip.. it’s worked perfectly for me this year
A 6-24 would work for that. Vortex, Night Force, and Primary Arms make some decent ones. If your taking this to 700 I’d be super interested in your results. I’m trying to get to 500-600 soon with it and I’ll make a video about it. I’ll most likely use a 1-8 Vortex or my 6-24 Primary Arms scope.

Drop in fun triggers will not work, as there is interference where the rear take down is placed in the SFAR..
great video and I finally got one. Thank you so much for answering my questions about the rifle.
No problem glad it helps! Have fun with it!
Trex arms light bar if you want to push the light out farther for little to no suppressor shadow. Thats what i use any time im running suppressed.
Iv seen them on a few guns. I’ll give it a try! Thanks!
For no shadow, get a 16" rail and you're golden.
Hello
I’m a owner of a Ruger a Sfar, 308 20 inch barrel and I would like to change to a Silent Captured Spring which one can I use that will fit.
FYI ive found that Troy ambi mag release for ar-15 did not work on the SFAR. I believe the shaft on the mag release is too short to span the SFAR magwell.
Stock replacement options?
I'd like a fold of able
Put a Bcm mcmr 10” on mine and I’m installing a riflespeed gas block when it gets delivered

You'll understand if I don't believe you, right?
I like mine two!
Do you know if it will run a standard ar-15 flat wire buffer spring because the one that comes in the SFAR is longer
what kind of trigger? is it a drop in trigger or what? hard to find videos on trigger upgrades and how to install them for the sfar
SSP Geissele Flat Bow. It installs like any standard AR trigger. Super simple. RUclips is stupid when it come to showing how to install parts on guns.
I hear the trigger is amazing. Try it first. My opinion.
Does it only take SR25 magazines…btw great review
Been waiting for a new video since I got mine. What rail is that again? Can you link to where I can find one? I like it.
midwestindustriesinc.com/mi-combat-rail-one-piece-free-float-handguard-m-lok-tm/
Is the dust cover 556 sized also?
And, could you please measure the weight of the boomer brake that comes on the rifle?
The brake is a little over 3 ounces
👍good review. How is the PSA sabre holding up ?
Thanks! Update video on the PSA will be up soonish. Just passed 1000 rounds on it.
Can you use a standard AR-15 .22LR-conversion kit with the SFAR? 🤔
There isn't a mag adapter for .308 that I know of, and you'd need to rebarrel to .223.
What about the barrel? Can we use any ar10 barrels or do we need something different?

What magazines are available for the sfar ?
Mr Breaded Wrench did the MI handguard give you any more clearance for the factory gas block?

What’s your ejection pattern on 3?
I run it on setting 2. I did about 500 rounds on setting 1 before I switched. The only ammo I have problems with is the Freedom munitions stuff.
@@TheBeardedWretch 500 on 1??? That's for cans. Mine won't even eject at all on 1 unsuppressed. It's like a bolt gun.
How many rounds are you up to broski?
1700-1900 ish. I will be doing another update once I hit 2000 which I hope to release next month some time.
Is your suppressor still in jail???
is the recoil spring carbine or rifle length?? thinking about the super42
If I remember right the SFAR has a really long spring compared to other AR-10 rifles. MAC's video "why AR-10's suck" gives the whole breakdown.
@@dabears52501 hmm so then a rifle length may work.
@@timbeatty8031 some people have used the springco green and had no issues, I believe that one is rifle length spring

I used an upper receiver block for an ar15. It’s not a perfect fit but it worked to remove/install barrel nut and didn’t mark it up any

Do you know of any handguard that are compatible with the original barrel nut?
I don’t. Most rails should come with a new barrel nut.
