I love these versions, as with just a guitar and keyboard (and backing vocals from the players) it's just her voice front and center without all the production effects. I think it helps you appreciate how good her voice is even more.

I’m so happy for you to see them LIVE. When I saw them in San Antonio, Texas it completely exceeded my expectations and I was near to tears when I heard them sing live. I saw Pentatonix last night. Kirstie was mostly dressed in black standing on a black stage, from the nosebleed seats she kept camouflaging with the stage. Great music though.
I HOPE YOU PICKED MY FAVE FOR MITCH! I love this! Kirstin's was her first release on her debut album, it was after Avi had left and she was engaged to Jeremy still. Something went wrong with her relationship and no wedding happened. But Broadway is where she ended up next! Then Matt joined and the group regrouped.. healed a bit... remembered how to smile again and are on the right track for their personal lives and careers (PTX being included in "careers")! I got all my insider information from only what I observe and have zip "insider" status! 😂 I just pay attention. let the corrections begin in replies below! I am so freaking excited for you. ! You have to know a certain song. I think so that you can participate and have fun. But I don't want to give things away. PTX: Focus at last My take: Matt: Left me cold. He has a great voice, but it works sooo much better in PTX. Kirstie: Always solid, but I've heard better from her. I'm sure you will too, come tomorrow. Kevin: Same as your reaction. The guy is an absolute beast. Superfruit: Very solid. PTX: Didn't care for the song, but a great performance. oh dear that first group song was terrible idk if it was the mic mix and they couldn't hear each other but once all of them started together it was terrible just noise until they reached the chorus and then it was bad after that. even kevin was off it had to be the mics but that was a bad choice just before you go see them! lol also who dressed them that was pretty awful as well except for kirstin!
Again this points out how weak Matt's voice is. He just doesn't have the depth of tone, or the range that Avi had and that's the piece that's missing and why this group no longer can hold a candle to Home Free. When Chris Rupp left Home Free he was replaced by Adam Chance who brought more range, more depth of voice and a better blend to the group. It opened up more possibilities with harmony combinations and improved the group. Unfortunately, when Avi left PTX, he took a big piece of their puzzle and Matt, unfortunately, just hasn't filled the void. He's good but not good enough in my opinion.
Mark Adcock As I was watching I noticed how much better Matt has gotten since that performance. He was very young there and really has improved since being in the group. His lower tones are much stronger now too than when he first started. I think the group is doing just fine and Matt brings something Avi never could. An incredible stage presence. His energy and joy when performing is contagious and the rest of the group now feeds off it. I agree that group song wasn’t their best and they have so much better that they do in concert. I’ve seen them 4 times and they never sound that dull. That song just doesn’t do it for them.
I saw PTX at their Auckland concert last night, and they performed Natural Disaster, a song in which Avi gets VERY low and was a bit worried Matt wouldn't get down there, but DANG! I felt it right through my chest. He can hit the notes, although he does lack a little of the crispness Avi had in doing so. Matt is really coming in to his own. That said, I will always love Avi, and I am following his solo career closely. Something about the combination of his voice, his musicality and the relatable lyrics he writes is just....magical. There's no other word for it.
@@PtxXtp Sometimes it seems like when they're on TV shows, the studio's sound engineers don't get the mic balance right either, but you're right about that one not being the same. I also think Matt's voice has deepened since he first joined. People tend to forget that dramatic baritones' and basses' voices don't "mature" as quickly, and they don't hit their lowest notes until later. Avi was one of the rare exceptions since his voice dropped so early, but his voice has also gotten lower as he's gotten older. Matt was young for someone singing the bass line when he started singing with PTX, and as he's gotten older, he can hit lower notes more easily. Natural Disaster was incredible when I heard it back in May of last year. I had floor seats, and the floor shook. 🙂 That type of growl takes some time to learn if you haven't been doing it before, too. I've tried it for fun. Not the F#1 or G1 though. I definitely can't hit that low.
