The ideal Halo movie would just be a live action adaptation of Mona Lisa. It could be done well on a small budget, it requires little to no previous knowledge of Halo to understand, its a self contained story that would easily fit in an average length screenplay.
This is actually probably my favorite of all the live action Halo things. Partly due to my fascination with the Lekgolo and what happens to a Halo ring after its destruction and how the environment on them would be effected without power, maintenance and other factors at play to keep them a stable ecosystem.
They're all interesting concepts but I just don't think the show does enough with them, y'know? In a BTS interview Frank O'Connor talked about how the Halo ring is trying to rebuild itself during the hours it's not facing the sun, but that's never really shown in the show. Would've been cool to see some damaged, underground Forerunner structures as well. Or even the odd beam tower, just to remind us that this is actually Halo and not an Icelandic mountain tour with guns.
My first thoughts when I watched Nightfall was "I guess someone saw Pitch Black and Crematoria from Cronicals of Riddick was cool too." That's literally what this shit was. It was Pitch Black and Cronicals with a Halo twist but done so damn badly.
We need a halo horror movie or game, focused on Johnson and the Marines fighting into the forerunner construct and the fight changing to fight the flood with the covenant and Johnson being the sole survivor.
Just make a live action adaptation of Mona Lisa, simple. It could be done well with a pretty small budget, its a short story so you wouldnt have to cut anything to fit it in a screenplay.
I'm glad I missed this the first time and wished I never knew this existed. The Landfall short is still superior. I did like the Bionicle reference though.
I can't believe it! RUclips actually recommended me a cool and interesting video from a small channel I've never heard of instead of a lets play video of a random game I've never heard of that doesn't even have a proper thumbnail!
HALO TV SHOWS ARE A DOUBLE-BLADED WEAPONS *You can Have Masterpieces like Halo Legends or Halo Forward unto Down, or you can have Mediocre Dumpsterfires like the Paramount+ 2022 Fanfic*
Legends and FUD are not masterpieces by any metric. They are exceptionally mid. Legends is the better of the two, only because a few of its shorts are actually kino.
Cool to see a video on this! Nightfall may have been forgotten on a general level, or swept under the rug, but it's definitely clickbait to say "Halo Movie That Everyone Forgot", because I definitely remember it, and you remembered it enough to write a review xD
I've only ever watched Nightfall once and that was back when it came out. And by God, it's worse than I remember. On the topic of Locke, I was very excited about the idea of a new protagonist back when he was first announced. He had cool looking armour, a cool name, an interesting vibe to him (from the MCC CGI trailer) and I was looking forward to playing as him... only to find that he was boring af as character. Which is an issue that can be fixed mind you, if they ever decide to revisit the character.
I heard that locke was killed sometime before the events of Infinite. Dunno where that was mentioned, but saw someone saying it in the comments somewhere. But I wouldn't be surprised, the writers (like in the SW sequels) are afraid of committing to anything so that there's no coherence over the course of the trilogy.
Whoa, IGN gave Nightfall a 5/10? That’s like . . . a -2.5 on a normal person’s scale. But speaking of “forgotten Halo movies”, have you caught wind of a long since cancelled Halo CE movie written by Alex Garland? HiddenXperia already talked about it earlier this year, but I would love to hear your thoughts on its leaked script. Especially if it means the movie could somehow get a revival if gained enough traction and eventually get on the big screen, as it should’ve all those years ago. Big if, though.
Mid is putting it lightly. Those insufferable monologues over various scenes by Aiken about gods and soldiers were pseudo-intellectual sounding bs. Give me Forward Unto Dawn any day.
I remember buying this film from Halo Channel, just because at the time they gave you the Nightfall armor set on Halo 5 if you did so (which was the closest to the ODST); but I completely forgot what this film was about.
I never finished this movie when it came out. I couldn't find the full thing anywhere. But I did watch the Forward Unto Dawn movie. I thought that was pretty good. Would love to hear your thoughts on it. Perhaps in a new video?
4:41 umm sir, you underestimate how many Bionicle fans there are still out there. Before my love for Halo, there was...... the Bionicle (insert kazoo mask of light theme here )
something that wouldve been neat (but likely something they wouldnt have done due to budget especially but also the series' direction at the time) is actually *show* one of those underground forerunner caverns you were talking about, and having it look like ce (or at the very least cea) wouldve been nice to see chunky forerunner tech in live action ://
Yes! Thank you! I think I mentioned it in another comment below. But it would've been nice to have seen some Forerunner structures, or even the odd "not natural" cave formation or beam towers. Just to remind us that this is indeed a Halo film set on the remains of a Halo ring, and not an Icelandic sightseeing tour with guns.
The unfortunate thing is Locke could’ve been a good character if 343 didn’t try to force him down our throats. The worst part was Locke was writen more like a side character than a main character, and the worst sin was the fact that they had Locke leading the new Spartan team instead of Buck. Seriously, wtf? Buck was successfully leading teams of ODSTs during the worst parts of the war. He was pretty much as successful as a Spartan without the training, augmentations, and equipment. Nightfall was just crap, and this vid does all the explaining about why it sucks so I don’t have to lol. Nice vid muh dude.
I remember having this run on the Waypoint app to get the not ODST armor for Halo 5, and within a week forgot every plot point except there were somehow Hunter Worms that ate tech that survived
The idea of a "new element" being made in a fusion explosion isnt necessarily far fetched, but that element would very quicking alpha decay, then either beta plus or beta minus decay into a more common element. The nuclear force of attraction of a nucleon can only be saturated so much making a limited range of elements.
I like your review, but I'm glad the Covenant never canonically use the Flood as a bio weapon, unlike the UNSC and ONI who were researching doing that. It's a line the Covenant won't cross that humans will and that adds some much needed complexity to the moral landscape of the universe.
They could've made this a cheesy 90's horror with Flood, that would've been good enough. I remember getting Nightfall on DVD and rushing home in excitement. My mom watched it with me, and despite her knowing nothing of Halo and me being obsessed, we both were equally confused. That's pretty bad. I literally remember none of it, but I guess this DVD is somewhat an oddity on my shelf.
The whole thing with modern halo has always been leaning too heavily on humanity bad inner conflict. Problem is 343 isn't talented enough to deliver a good halo story.
They don't have any good writers who know the story of halo. Also, it feels like the higher ups don't want to have anything of bungie in their new halo. If you think about it: As soon as halo 4 started they cut almost everything but the names. Master chief, cortana, covenant and unsc.... The only things they kept. Everything else was done completely different. No more flood, not even mentioned. Actually the covenant was gone, but 343i tried to keep it alive, even though bungie killed it with the split of the elites. Spartan 2s and 3s exist already? Let's do Spartan 4s and make them worse Spartan 3s so they are almost like casual soldiers but they are called Spartans. Why are they even called Spartans? They have nothing alike. Halo infinite Was the first glimpse of hope that they return at least a little bit to the roots of halo but they still had to create a new super villain which is defeated within one game and noone cares about anymore. So much bad writing and many people have covered this before
@@SilverViper1000 why would they have the flood come back after 3 was supposed to be this last big battle to stop them? For the question about how could an element only target Humans, it's obviously a ridiculous plot point, but I am a scientist and a nerd so I'll try give some possible explanation even though it's far fetched! It could be that the 'elements' are actually ions (charged atoms/elements), and their specific charge is such that they interact with atoms in human anatomy and not any other species (as some of our atomic makeup is likely to be of energy/construct particular to us). So, it could be that the bomb releases heavy (I'm assuming because it's a newly discovered element) atoms that react with atoms in our body, passing on huge amounts of energy that can only cause a chain reaction of energy being passed on in us. Or some of us? I'm not a Biologist as you can probably tell, but I do know that certain reactions are concerned with energy being a very specific value, i.e. when electrons become excited during ionisation, they climb very well defined energy levels, and release very well defined energy in the form of photons (light), which can be harmful if of high enough energy. Maybe if this chain reaction can be engaged from within our anatomy, the light (x-ray or gamma) would be absorbed by the human, meaning that other species would be safe if the reaction didn't occur within their bodies. I realise that this is a dumb movie, and I've now likely put more effort into this comment than the writers did for this movie, but like I said I'm a nerd lol. Lmk what you guys think, especially if you're a biologist haha
It makes sense that 343 have no continuity with the yield of a Havok Nuke, since they made Chief use one to blow up the Didact's ship, which was like 4x the size of the Pillar of Autumn 🤡
Just sitting here I can think of a stronger plot. There’s a specific halo five visor color that talks about spartan teams that infiltrate forerunner installations that might have the flood. Spartan Locke and his team from halo five could’ve just had a plot written around this similar to the popular Mona Lisa halo video boom right there much more interesting.

I actually did manage to score a Blu Ray copy of Nightfall, but only because it came attached to my H4: Forward Unto Dawn Blu Ray. Tbf I don’t think the UNSC exactly has many NOVA bombs on hand. We only know of two (the bombs detonated at Joyous Exaltation and Glyke) and they were prototypes to begin with.
Ridley Scott has gone off the deepend as evidenced by his Alien prequels. He should not be allowed anywhere near the directing chair. The funny thing about the original Alien the fact that the film was a collaborative effort and Ridley Scott had multiple people who told him no whenever he had a bad idea.
@@shreksnow1918I'm adopting this headcanon. Agree that ridley has no concept of biology or continuity, pretty crucial for flood. Could you imagine him retconning the flood to be the creators of the universe and humans are their descendants? Barf
I’m just gonna assume Frankie bullshit happened Remember in Halo 3, some of the terminals ( that Frank O’Connor wrote) says that the Lobrarian destroyed all the Keyships, despite the Prophet’s keyship being a central point of the plot And also remember the ending of Halo 3 where MC and the Arbiter destroyed the Flood together? Well according to Frank’s Halo Legends, the UNSC and the *Covenant* joined forces to kill the flood, despite the pet when the Flood temporarily jointed the MC to destroy the Covenant Now you might be stating that Halo Legends is just a spinn off and isn’t cannon, but then remember what Master Chief said in Halo 4 after he threw the first Elite down an elevator shaft? “I thought we had a truce with the Covenant” Not Sangheili, not the Arbiter, the entire Covenant
Ah yes another small channel to add to my collection. No seriously I’ve been getting a lot of very small channels that I’ve been subscribing to for the last couple months. They’ve all made really good videos and it’s actually great to find good content from people that only have like 10k subscribers.
I didn't forget the movie, but I didn't see a reason for it to exist and i also really didnt like the plot. I get it was to introduce Locke. But I didn't care and this movie was the first thing that brought into question. Why don't the Legolo worms fight the UNSC like that instead of fighting them as well hunters?
This is the problem with halo lore. It just isn’t consistent and makes the world make less and less sense. Like in halo bad blood they talk about how Spartans don’t age, how they don’t really know what a spartan life span is, just that it is extremely long and they no spartan has ever aged out of service. And then look at Halo 4 where master chief is described as an aging Spartan and then when you see his eyes they look very aged and old. Extended universes are trash
This is still better than the Halo TV show somehow..... Baztardizing the canon is better than shyting all over it perhaps lol. Btw Laper, checkout the new Shogun show.
Please make a video on Forward Unto Dawn, that movie was actually good. It was not perfect, it was clearly thought of as a proper series and later shortened as a web series/ movie, but it is still by far the best live-action halo we've got.
about randall was a spartan that peacefully went rogue it doesnt matter how expensive a spartan is if they dont want to fight they wont and you cant make them i do agree that its weird that they wasted the money tearing him apart to get every scrap of titanium out of him though
4:40 : well, I did at least ;) Also, regarding 6:45 I guess you could theorise that it had to do something with forerunner experiments contained on the ring, maybe the fission/fusion reaction just "activated" something in an experimental element created by the forerunners in case they needed to dispose of humans? I know I'm grasping straws even moreso than Macer did but it's the most plausible explanation to me.
I’ll never understand why/how 343 didn’t think to themselves “Hey, Bungie left the door open if we want to bring back Noble 6. So why not have him hunt down 117. I mean, fans knows who he is, love him and he’s the only other Hyper Lethal. It would make perfect sense” Like, it’s a f%cking no brainer. Can you guys imagine the insane hype fans would’ve had. Knowing Noble 6, a legendary (even among the Spartans) headhunter, hunting Master Chief and Blue Team. And then teaming up to stop Cortana??? Just thinking about it is like a dream come true. But luckily, we have Reclaimer Gaming and HaloFollower bringing that idea to life.
Because bringing Noble 6 back would be just as retarded as everything else they've done, and it would be pissing all over the story and message of Reach. People that actually want that character to survive have no idea what they're talking about
Add to that: Chief would never go AWOL. Make it so that Cortana is forcing him to do things that make it seem to UNSC brass like he's gone off the deep end when he hasn't. Like maneuvering him to have to team up with innies to fight prometheans, and clip it so it looks like he killed civilians. Or even better, show him literally killing a civilian (no body left but an AI superintendent saw it and it gives it credibility) because he was flood infested (Because again, cortana is working for the gravemind due to the logic plague). And this sort of thing is the justification for why he's being hunted by the unsc. Cortana wants him to choose her and needs to destroy his reputation to keep him from convincing the unsc to go after her. Bam now you have stakes

@@LaperLarden Oh, absolutely. There was a lot of potential in this one, but the execution could've been a lot better.
Bionicle and ripping into Nightfall, 10/10 video
I miss those biomechanical, Maori-inspired, Lego lads.
Now that's a spinoff I'd like to watch, unlike the Paramount shit.
Just make a live action adaptation of Mona Lisa, simple. It could be done well with a pretty small budget, its a short story so you wouldnt have to cut anything to fit it in a screenplay.
I'm honestly very disappointed that Locke didn't get good buildup, because he's a super cool character.
He’s one of the worst looking Human characters in all of Halo bruh.
@@smoldoggy1005 That is opinion, not fact
@@DemarcationMedia saying he’s cool is also opinion. Barely any Halo fans even know who he was
Naw he sucks
@@smoldoggy1005 I never claimed it wasn't an opinion. It is 100% my opinion that Locke is a cool character with great armor

HALO TV SHOWS ARE A DOUBLE-BLADED WEAPONS
*You can Have Masterpieces like Halo Legends or Halo Forward unto Down, or you can have Mediocre Dumpsterfires like the Paramount+ 2022 Fanfic*
Doesn't quite have the same ring as "Halo movie that almost everyone forgot" 😂
@@wumbosaurus9121 It was mentioned one of the Infinite audio logs that he was deployed elsewhere iirc.
@6:59 that short scream had me crying.
Mid is putting it lightly. Those insufferable monologues over various scenes by Aiken about gods and soldiers were pseudo-intellectual sounding bs. Give me Forward Unto Dawn any day.
I remember watching this to get that armor set for Halo 5. That was totally a good time investment.
Before my love for Halo, there was...... the Bionicle (insert kazoo mask of light theme here )
something that wouldve been neat (but likely something they wouldnt have done due to budget especially but also the series' direction at the time) is actually *show* one of those underground forerunner caverns you were talking about, and having it look like ce (or at the very least cea)
wouldve been nice to see chunky forerunner tech in live action ://
Yes! Thank you! I think I mentioned it in another comment below. But it would've been nice to have seen some Forerunner structures, or even the odd "not natural" cave formation or beam towers. Just to remind us that this is indeed a Halo film set on the remains of a Halo ring, and not an Icelandic sightseeing tour with guns.
mfw Halo Landfall, a fucking COMMERCIAL for Bungie, is a better piece of fiction than all of 343i's TV shows / films put together
Cerrection. We never forgot about it ... We just refuse to remember it
The idea of a "new element" being made in a fusion explosion isnt necessarily far fetched, but that element would very quicking alpha decay, then either beta plus or beta minus decay into a more common element.
Maybe the covenant ain't wrong.
God man, 343i’s entire Halo legacy will be “what could’ve been”
And only that because Halo fans are so endlessly optimistic and always see the potential in 343's failures.
*Rip the horses*
Also the Lekgolo worms was cool and terrifying but the rest was average or lame
Is still remember all the love action movies. Forward Unto Dawn was pretty good.
STILL BETTER THAN THE TV SHOW
Not really, no
It really is
It's good to see another upload from you, it seems like all my favorite youtuber have stopped uploading
What a great video! You should do more of this. Really enjoyed
If you think about it:
As soon as halo 4 started they cut almost everything but the names.
Dude you clearly just dont pay attention, halo 4 terminals are quite literally all about the flood and their origin with the forerunners and humanity before the halos firing. honestly makes me question who has less understanding of halo, 343 or the "fans"

Thought I recognised Randals name, he has a small mention in ghosts of Onyx (one of the best halo books) and was in a short story which coincidentally also had Soren 066 who is a also a character in the awful halo show, seems like that short has two characters who are in bad live action halo story’s
I literally only watched it to get the ODST armor in H5
Being fair to the Elite walking on the mall unopposed, during the Post War several Covenant species started to live in human worlds. Rio de Janeiro had a significant Covenant population as stated in Spartan Ops
So people would be like "oh damn an elite immigrant".
using the flood actually would've made less sense because how would they even mine for some "human killing element" with threat of the flood let alone taking off the ring and weaponizing them too? they probably wouldn't waste any time detonating that nuke.
I actually liked this movie and Forward Unto Dawn. Locke is a good characters poorly used by 343. This was a really well made video!
Nightfall was not very fun but it was interesting, halo forward unto dawn was good and the ambiance was nice, just a little long sometime and the halo series is good
I just wanted to say, thank you for the Bionicle joke
Early last year a mega construx figure of one of Locke's outfits in this show was released for the halo heroes line. Subsequent halo heroes released have been incredibly difficult to find because every store still has 6 lockes in stock and doesn't think they need to order more. There have been 3 halo heroes series I haven't seen locally because I don't want to have to buy 6 lockes to get them to order the next ones. Please send help
I remember watching this as a fifteen year old, hyped for halo 5, and just thinking at the time how ass it was 😂
4:40 Unity, Duty, and Destiny baby
one of the movies ever
Certainly a movie of all time.
This is the kind of comment that I really appreciate. Love the thought that was put into this!
Spartan Locke and his team from halo five could’ve just had a plot written around this similar to the popular Mona Lisa halo video boom right there much more interesting.
idk what you're on about i have found both forward unto dawn and this up on youtube in good quality and the forward unto dawn full vid has been up for like 7 years

the rant about how firearms work was hillarious
Oh thanks like i really needed yet another reason to despite 343 even more. And how do they keep "accidentally" shitting all over Halo and Microsoft just ignores it over and over and over again? Give Halo to competent actual Halo fans to do right by it before it's (even more) too late, Microsoft! Please!
I thought you were gonna mention the slipspace bomb that was used in halo reach, that would've been a nice touch
Honestly the creation of new elements when the PoA went supernova didn't sound too far fetched to me when I heard it. I guess maybe the fact that pvt mesa made that up on the spot is a bit unbelievable. I'd expect that to come from a scientist or someone.
4:41 I understood that reference
I know all the criticism is valid, but I’ll still love this movie as I love slow burn movies and Locke as a character deserved so much better
This movie is terrible. Its not a slow burn its a smoldering pile of ashes.
Oh i never forgot, this shit fucked me up, the worst written halo story up there with the paramount plus garbage
Ah yes, 2014... Before we knew better than to trust 343's Halo releases.
The worst thing about this show was how it made you watch it to unlock the fake odst armour in game

8:34. Tbf I don’t think the UNSC exactly has many NOVA bombs on hand. We only know of two (the bombs detonated at Joyous Exaltation and Glyke) and they were prototypes to begin with.
There is always the *bigger* nuke option, though!
@@LaperLarden That’s true!

I didn’t think it was that terrible, then again I’m a Halo fanboy and can appreciate the attempt to do something live action.
Ok, if Ridley did a flood movie, it would be peak horror, but it would have to be flood centric, probably following odsts
Barf
i only vaguely knew of nightfall, so it's interesting to finally have more of an idea of what it actually is. saved me 2 hours lol
The lekgolo were interesting as a concept but there were no stakes or compelling plot
Completely lost all credibility when they pulled a gun on a spartan 2 and weren't imminently annihilated
I’m just gonna assume Frankie bullshit happened
Remember in Halo 3, some of the terminals ( that Frank O’Connor wrote) says that the Lobrarian destroyed all the Keyships, despite the Prophet’s keyship being a central point of the plot
And also remember the ending of Halo 3 where MC and the Arbiter destroyed the Flood together? Well according to Frank’s Halo Legends, the UNSC and the *Covenant* joined forces to kill the flood, despite the pet when the Flood temporarily jointed the MC to destroy the Covenant
Now you might be stating that Halo Legends is just a spinn off and isn’t cannon, but then remember what Master Chief said in Halo 4 after he threw the first Elite down an elevator shaft?
“I thought we had a truce with the Covenant”
Not Sangheili, not the Arbiter, the entire Covenant
I Hate Frank O'Connor
Ah yes another small channel to add to my collection.
No seriously I’ve been getting a lot of very small channels that I’ve been subscribing to for the last couple months. They’ve all made really good videos and it’s actually great to find good content from people that only have like 10k subscribers.
Glad to see the algorithm doing something right for once! Thanks for watching!
I didn’t forget it existed cause it provided the best odst armour in halo 5. I did forget 90% of the shows content however
I remember watching this on waypoint just for the armor
Every calls Spatran IVs 'Power Rangers', but theyre more like rejected Kamen Rider designs
The only two things i remember about this is mike colter, who i also remember enjoying, and the lekgolo worm being scary as hell.
Nightfall was my first introduction to the condor which I really like as a ship
This is still better than the Halo TV show somehow..... Baztardizing the canon is better than shyting all over it perhaps lol. Btw Laper, checkout the new Shogun show.
Please make a video on Forward Unto Dawn, that movie was actually good.
It was not perfect, it was clearly thought of as a proper series and later shortened as a web series/ movie, but it is still by far the best live-action halo we've got.
about randall was a spartan that peacefully went rogue
it doesnt matter how expensive a spartan is
if they dont want to fight
they wont
and you cant make them
i do agree that its weird that they wasted the money tearing him apart to get every scrap of titanium out of him though
4:40 : well, I did at least ;)
Also, regarding 6:45 I guess you could theorise that it had to do something with forerunner experiments contained on the ring, maybe the fission/fusion reaction just "activated" something in an experimental element created by the forerunners in case they needed to dispose of humans? I know I'm grasping straws even moreso than Macer did but it's the most plausible explanation to me.
I’ll never understand why/how 343 didn’t think to themselves
“Hey, Bungie left the door open if we want to bring back Noble 6.
Your suggestions are what further validates my belief that most fans have even more retarded ideas than the usual creators or IP holders.
5:36 also didn't the events of Mona Lisa happen and the ring debris was still there
