      Exactly. Spartans should be used sparingly in Halo movies/tv shows and never be the main character. They exist as humanity’s greatest weapon, and also doubles as its brightest light at the end of a dark tunnel. They should be used after a situation has turned hopeless, to make it feel like you’ll survive or even win due to their presence and military strength. Making them the main focal point (outside of the games) diminishes that role and their value, and almost makes them seem like regular ol’ Jim Bob who maybe is a little special in some way.

The Elite dies a stupid death just standing there after killing weak civilians which is something Elites frown upon, they're above that you kn how they are so they leave that dirty work to the "lesser" species. Like when they unleashed a horde of starved Grunts and Jackals on civilians instead of killing them themselves. The Hunter is made out to be slow and dumb when they were well known for sudden bursts of extreme speed and intelligent tactics that the big 3 (Elites, Spartans, and Brutes) all feared, and the Jackals aren't as accurate as they should be and just drop like flies when shot at.

    @nicholasshealy9040 Год назад +165

    I just want to say I appreciate how the writers made the Covenant look like such a huge threat in just the span of three minutes. Not saying they aren’t in the games but when you are blasting them away as Chief or whoever else you do get caught in the moment having fun and forget they are a huge threat, unless you’re playing Halo 2 on Legendary. The Covenant at this point is a new and unknown enemy to most people so naturally these Marines and cadets will be scared and unsure what to do, other than shoot it of course and the actors do a great job at expressing that level of fear.
    You were pretty spot on, Laper, when you described the beginning of the second half of the movie as some horror flick. The way the ODST’s drop in the courtyard telling the characters and the audience something horribly wrong is about to happen, the way Covenant Corvettes appear in the night sky and blow the space elevator away causing cadets and other army/navy personnel to fall from the elevator as some on the ground get crushed by the falling debris, the way Lasky seemingly has a surreal moment as he sees trained Marines including Mehaffey get slaughtered by Covenant ground forces, the way the few surviving cadets play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an Elite using Active Camo, it all oozes professional writing and respect to the source material to me.

    I love this entire series. Not is it the only video/movie that depicts pre-Human-Covenant War attitudes besides Fall of Reach, it gives excellent characterization for Lasky and his squad, shows the sheer _terror_ of a Covenant invasion back when no one knew what that looked like, and highlights the mysticism of the Spartans. It always struck me as odd that what felt like the entire Halo community was dismissive of this series when it came out. Now people are suddenly looking back on this fondly after 2 stumbles. And this series is part of why I like Halo 4's story quite a bit more than most of the other games.
    Note: the way you pronounce Hastati sounds like 'Astartes', as in the supersoldiers from Warhammer 40k. It got me thinking about some things. If Microsoft and 343 really wanted a story centered around the Spartans, it would probably be better to stylize it after the 'Astartes' fan animation, meaning mostly action and minimal dialogue. Ironically enough, the Space Marines in Astartes feel more cold and uncompromising than the Spartans as of late despite the fact that most of them are bloodthirsty zealots described as Angels of Death instead of cold, professional soldiers.

    I don't think it's true that he's devoid of character in the games.
    He has come a long way since Halo4, but his main characteristic is that he doesn't show his emotions. He's bruised by everything that's been done to him, but at the same time, he has to remain the implacable soldier in the face of danger that he is, and put his feelings aside.
    And the emotions in question could be explored in a series or film, bearing in mind that they are repressed. Halo 4's intro with DR Halsey does this very well.

By retro engineering the wrist mounted jackal shield the Spartans brought back, it allowed Dr. Halsey and the scientists behind project Mjolnir to outfit spartan armors with full body shields.

    The reveal of not just the Covies, but also the Spartans in this movie gives me chills *every time.* As Halo players, we tend to get desensitized to these events, but from the perspective of regular humans in the Halo universe, seeing aliens and genuine super soldiers for the first time is chilling and exhilarating.
    And it makes so much sense from the lore standpoint, given the covert nature of original Spartans (who were created in secret to kill other humans, not aliens), and the lack of general knowledge of the Covenant at first.
    It was also kind of ironic that Chief especially got such an incredible, awe-inspiring entrance, when he was kinda treated like garbage in most of H4. ("I thought you'd be taller"). Another note on Chief, his armor is unbelievably well done. It looks and feels heavy and powerful, though also surprisingly agile. In my opinion, it *thoroughly* sh*ts on the armor from the Paramount series, which is *10 YEARS NEWER* HAHAHAHAHAHA-
    My ONE complaint with this show is that it suffers from 343 syndrome, where the covenant are wearing armor from the later era of Halo 4 and 5, rather than their earlier, lore-accurate armor, but this complaint is very minor all things considered.
    All in all, fantastic movie, and one that caters remarkably well to both die-hard Halo fans and people who have never even heard of the games.
    (Wow, I really didn't need to say all that did I). 😅

    Would have been cool to see Noble 6 on his armada decimation spree prior to the events on Reach. But in all fairness i think Halo 3 ODST would have been a good place to start with a Halo series. It could have followed Bucks journey from the events of New Mombasa and to how he became a Spartan. Nathan Fillion would have been perfect for the role considering he is the basis for the character. I genuinly think it would have been a better starting point. And then having rare spinoff events perhaps to ensure we get see other Spartans as well, but still try to keep them a bit scarce for the beginning and then meeting once or twice in later episodes as the pieces of the puzzle (stories) start to fit together (converge) where we see many spartans on a final operation following all or many of the introduced spartans through that season. And better yet make all those converging stories from season 1 also have some relevancy in season 2 as well as the finale of the season 1. and then do more season that carries some relevancy to previous seasons for smaller plots and plot lines converging to a medium plotline where the final season cenverges everything into a massive plot. That is how i picture a good series in any genre, and Halo definitely would benefit from such plotline. It would turn Halo more popular than it ever has been and would be a better foundation for potential spinoffs carrying new stories. How cool would it be to have even more series converging as well with various Spartan teams, ODST’s and Marines where a later series converge some of them into further plotlines carrying many stories as one big story?

  • @RANDPLAYER
    @RANDPLAYER Год назад +6

    Reach and ODST are 2 of my top 3 Halo games, period. And both are spinoffs from the mainline story of Chief. But set in the same universe, always hinting at or outright showing us where in the timeline they are set. I've always loved the idea of the Halo universe as a whole.
    Show us more stories, like Halo legends, any of those shorts could easily be made in to LA and expanded upon. Or create a new idea, as mentioned in the video, as long as it's set in the same universe, using sounds and designs that we're all familiar with, I and I believe many of us would eat that right up given the right setting and script.
    Hell even the entire cutscene cinematics made by Blur in H2 would be an awesome thing to se LA. And I would go as far as to say that any campaign from the Halo series can be made in to LA, with a canon story taken from the players gameplay, but stretched out to give an opportunity for a broader narrative to exist. Give us the time between Chief landing on the Dawn in H2's Ciaro Station and to when Outskirts begins.

    I haven't watched much of the various Halo shows but I did watch this close to when it came out and I remember finding it a slow start but the latter half knocked it out of the park despite a clearly low budget. Watching it again I actually really appreciate that the first half is such a played straight teen drama because it makes the hard left into horror when the Covenant invade that much more impactful. It really sells the core premise of the Halo series, that humanity has it's back against the wall. And the reality of living in this universe is terrifying knowing your classic teen drama could be upended as everyone and everything you know is obliterated in alien plasma fire in a matter of hours. But all that bleakness is what makes Master Chief so special, the stoic, faceless superman that can take the fight to the monsters and is as equal parts protector and inspiration to his frail mortal human comrades.
    Yeah, F.U.D. is not perfect but man does it nail the themes and feeling of Halo.

    I also really think the choice of the Legends-style MK IV really suits a live-action Master Chief significantly more than the Halo-3 esque MK VI used in P+ Show, and arguably even in the games as well. While there’s merit to the sleeker Mjolnir design of H2/3, I really like the bulkier look of the Legends/Halo Wars MK IV a lot better. Specifically, the oversized shoulder and chest plating really gives the Spartans the “walking tank” feel that the Marines must have felt when seeing them, and FUD/Halo 4 enhances this even further with the heavy metallic sounds of Chief’s footsteps. There’s a good reason why Infinite’s MK VI took after the Legends design, and I think it would’ve really helped the P+ show as well.
