Penn is killing it in the mid tier market. I can’t wait to see the next gen penn fierce. The pursuit 4 , I feel makes that sku in the stack not needed.
In December 2019 my local Walmart had all the Penn reels on clearance for 15 bucks ea. I got 2 and was driving home and did a Uee, went back and bought the other 7. Gave 4 away for Christmas and kept the rest. I keep them on the boat in a slip sticking out of rod holders 24/7.
I just purchased this on Amazon just now for my wife and I. I also bought the Ugly Stik GX2 6’6” Medium Rod at my local Dunham’s for $40 thanks to you. I live in Detroit, Michigan so I’m going to be kicking some fish but in the Great Lake State lol. This is going to build my relationships with my wife and daughter. I’m a rookie at fishing so I’m about to subscribe and watch your videos how to install the line. Also I need to know what type of line do you recommend from Amazon? I love that kayak man, that thing is amazing! I was checking those out as well. Keep up the good work as far as being honest and helping people. I can tell you’re an amazing person. Alright man God Bless!
Just want to reach out and THANK YOU FOR BEING SUCH A RESOURCE, ROLE MODEL, AND POSITIVE INFLUENCE ON MY LIFE AND THE WORLD, J.C. KEEP UP THE GREAT CONTENT! I CAN'T EXPLAIN THE GOOD YOU'VE PUT INTO THE WORLD BUT I CERTAINLY HOPE IT COMES BACK TO YOU, TENFOLD. Just figured I would notify you of what a stellar job you do. Happy holidays J.C. !
Just bought the Penn Pursuit lV. Spooled it with 20 pound braid. I like having several strong but budget rods. Like you it won't hurt so bad if I lose one if it's not an expensive rig.
@Matt0ize no problem. And I'll mention the rod as well, Shakespeare Ugly Stik Intercoastal (the black and blue one with cork grips) 7 foot, medium-heavy action. Rod performed very well, plenty of backbone fighting that fish, and whips 30"+ snook pretty easily too. The rod was around $60 at Wal-Mart. Great beater rod and reel for the beach, for less than $120 out the door. Tight lines
I cam can confirm, been using the putsuits since the pursuit 2 first came out, they are amazing. They absolutely blow away the diawa and shimano reels that are that same budget cheap under 40$ price. For example, the shimano sienna or the diawa crossfire reel, save those for freshwater lol. Penn pursuits are definitely the best budget reel out there right now hands down! 🎣🤙
Your video confirms my experience with spinning reels over the last 12 years. I am worlds apart about getting exactly what I need for both quality and price from back 12 years ago when I can see my mistakes. I remember back when I bought the Penn Battle ll and realized I would have been better off buying the Fierce for $50 cheaper. I didn't really need the extra 5lbs of drag on the Battle and considering it was the same parts inside and didn't last to my expectations for a $120 reel made it easy for me to see the mistake. So here in 2022 Penn has really done an awesome job of drastically improving the Battle with #3 starting with the brass gear and using the Battle 2 parts for the Pursuit 4 which is a cheaper reel. They really have done an awesome job with Slammers and this new Authority reel coming out in September will be an absolute gem for big game!
I love all of my Peen reels. I own two Spinnfishers, loads of Pursuits and I had a Fierce that I really liked to that my son is using now. The Penn Authority is going to be amazing!
In conclusion to the Battle Il, it's still in use today. I did replace the main gear a couple of years ago and now the gears don't mesh well but it still works. Despite that I didn't feel it wasn't worth what I paid for it I did get use out of it. Penn has done an awesome job upgrading this reel in the Battle III including the line lay. As far as the Authority goes it's going to be the complete reel as long as it makes through the preliminary stages of it's development. It's really going to be a master piece reel of what's already an awesome reel in the Slammers.
Thanks for that quick and useful review. I've just order Pursuit IV 3000 as I am now using Pursuit III 2500 and this is really good and smooth reel. Here in Poland, Penn is getting more and more famous and I am not surprised however our market is filled with Daiwa, Shimano and Ryobi products. Penn is mostly used for heavier fishing especially for the catfish. I am going to use it for pikes and zanders. Thanks once again for the video!👍😀
Great review! I have the Penn Pursuit IV 2500 that I picked up this past summer and I absolutely love it! I have it geared with 20lb braid and it absolutely kills in the lakes I frequent! Penn has a lot of bang for the buck in these things!
Im getting mine this Christmas in 2024 and price is $53 ! Cant wait to use it, just want to also shout out the pflueger president 35 reel I've had that reel 20+ years now and its still smooth as butter and catching fish.
You are an awesome guy.I love your enthusiasm toward products, fishing, and life. I even see you sharing other guys channels like jetty rocks. Your a good guy! Keep doing it!
I just got a steal of a deal. Bought a pursuit 4 4000 & a 6000 for $70 total. Both brand new in the plastic packaging which I hate opening. Can’t wait to compare these to the Shakespeare sienna reels I have been using.
Nice video JC! I love Penn reels - I've got a UK Surfblaster II, great bit of kit! As I've mentioned before, it's a shame we can't get gear here for similar prices to you guys in the USA. Penn Pursuit 4 here is £67.49 which equals $89.41 at current exchange rates. Seasons greetings to ya and Stay safe & well! 👍👍
Just picked up the Penn pursuit 4 I have been fish the Penn pursuit 3 since it came out my old 4000 I use for live bait was completely submerged by saltwater and stated seizing up so I took it apart soaked the bearings in some vinegar and sanded and scrub the rust off relubed now it's brand new again one of the best reels on the market and the pursuit 4 looks to be even better now that I have my hand on one
I love the new power handle, great reels! Yep, I've submerged mine several times. I always spray the gears really well with WD-40 and re-grease the same day when I get home. They just keep on working...Thanks for watching.
I've been going to Blackburn point slaying the trout and the big snook are starting to move in so I can't wait to get on that bite thanks for the great videos and have a good day

JC, I just picked up a penn pursuit 4 combo at a local bait shop for $85, should have bought both of them after watching your video! Thanks for the info, see ya!!!!!
I'm looking to buy 3-4 of these Pursuits in 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 just to have at the house after watching your videos haha. I went and put a hand on a Pursuit 4 4000 at Academy and they really do feel supremely high quality and the handle feels great.
I actually could't agree more. Used to be an Avid Shimano guy but for the price point and durability, Penn have them slammed hands down I'm afraid. I've opted for a couple of the entry level Wraths for rock fishing and so far, I've not been disappointed. I will be upgrading for my sea trout fishing to Penn Persuit IV 3000. Tight lines, wherever you are.
I use pursuits and thought about buying an 8000, but it doesn't scale properly to a reel with a 25# drag. Bigger parts meant more plastic for the bail support, which made it relatively flimsy compared to what you'd expect out of a large reel with ht100 drag.
Heck yeah, just got my hands on the 5000 pursuit 4 and 6f2 H 3-5PE rod, aiming to hit snapper, kings, queens and trouts. Just need to rig it out with Braid and leader and start Jigging.
I love the Pursuit IV it’s so smooth and now has better ball bearings. Btw I just saw Ozark Trail is actually making a 65 dollar saltwater spinning reel with 13 internal seals at Walmart of course. I would love to see you fishing it and reviewing it
If go on a boat or used for surf fishing there saltwater breeze and in those openings in the spool are sand and water collector to go inside the reel, that’s a killer right there.

Crazy to think that neither Shimano nor Daiwa can compete with the Pursuit 3 in that price range. I bought my Pursuit 3 for $33.00 brand new. No other reel comes close to that quality for that price.
I got a penn pursuit 4 5000 size I spooled it up with 28lbs j braid and I got 370 meters I was actually quite shocked because on the boxes it said 30lbs 300 yards (274meters)
Recently I bought eight Penn pursuit IV 4000 for my charter business. Last week I noticed some white powder coming out from the side cover plate so I took it off and discovered that it had filled with corrosion in the two months I have been using them. I hose my reels off after every use with freshwater. I wonder why everyone says they are graphite bodies? The side plates are clearly a corrosive metal. Are they only referring to some other part of the reel being graphite? All 8 reels were bought from TackleDirect as a Penn rod and reel package so I assume they are not knock offs.
I think you may have answered your own question. I have one. Its not sealed, the side cover is not a perfect seal. It probably filled up with water from the pressure of the hose spray coating everything, then corrosion does its thing.

Just got a 6000 purist at my local Walmart for 41 on sale. Like it just as much as my fierce. I dont salt water fish i use them for flatheads and they wenches aint a fish i cant reel in
Rad Reeling Fishing thanks for the reply…after watching your other video about iii model, I bought one, and it is good. I have been following your videos….they are really very informative..thank you…
Click the link in in the description area of just about any of my videos and you'll find the braid that I use. On a reel that size I'd put 25 to 30lb depending on what I'm fishing for.
All the reviews I see miss one huge thing: these reels have direct-drive handles... not the cheaper hexagonal deal with a screw on the opposite side of the body. I don't fish that much, but thanks to the Pursuit, I can enjoy that feature at a price that my level of fishing justifies.
Just ordered my third Pursuit 3, went to local shop to get the new Shimano Nasci. Was not all that impressed, this is coming from someone who has owned alot of Shimano and Penn reels.May try the Pursuit 4 once Amazon runs out if stock..Honeslty, this reels is great for the money, so over paying $100 to $200 for reels.
Been watching your videos last few days. I am confused in most vides you say you're using #15 braid. what size braid do you use the most on your 4000's 15# or 20#?

Hey, I just bought a Penn 4000 Wrath rod and reel combo at Walmart for $44. for my son’s Christmas gift. You can’t beat that deal.
Caught a 100lb tarpon off the beach with this reel, spooled with 20lb braid. Handled it no problem. Great budget reel.

Rad Reeling Fishing thanks for the reply…after watching your other video about iii model, I bought one, and it is good. I have been following your videos….they are really very informative..thank you…
Which would be the best type of braided line for 5000?
Click the link in in the description area of just about any of my videos and you'll find the braid that I use. On a reel that size I'd put 25 to 30lb depending on what I'm fishing for.
What type of reel is your favorite for fishing from the shore at sea 🌊 greetings from Guatemala 👍
I like the Penn spinning reels. I use the 4000 and 6000 sizes the most
Will the penn pursuit 4 power handle work on a penn pursuit 3
Interesting question, I'm not sure. Thanks for watching.
Hey can this reel go on an 11ft surf rod?
All the reviews I see miss one huge thing: these reels have direct-drive handles... not the cheaper hexagonal deal with a screw on the opposite side of the body. I don't fish that much, but thanks to the Pursuit, I can enjoy that feature at a price that my level of fishing justifies.
Just ordered my third Pursuit 3, went to local shop to get the new Shimano Nasci. Was not all that impressed, this is coming from someone who has owned alot of Shimano and Penn reels.May try the Pursuit 4 once Amazon runs out if stock..Honeslty, this reels is great for the money, so over paying $100 to $200 for reels.
the nasci is good.
@@WhiteGhost21 I ended up with a Nasci but in the 1000 series for ultra light freshwater fishing
can I just swap/upgrade bearings and knob to my III?
Looks that way. By the time you do that you might as well just buy a new reel at this price point.
What kind of line do you like using?
15 pound braids
@@RadReelingFishing any particular brand?
Is Penn Pusuit 4 better than Penn Wrath 2
yes
Does the 4 have a cnc main gear?
No. It’s the same zinc alloy as it used to be. If they did that, they would give us no reason to buy a Battle 3
What drag in Penn pursuit4 5000
HT 100 Carbon Fiber
Hey fishing friends
Did you use any mono when spooling the brain on the reel?
No it is braid ready
@@RadReelingFishing youd save even more money on braid if you did 10# mono backing for 50-100yds
What's the rod u using?
My go to is an Ugly Stik GX2 ruclips.net/video/RDz_OXrKsaU/видео.html
At a certain point you are just paying for the fancy color ways and the actual catching power kind of peters out.
A Penn reel with an ugly stick rod is the best.
Yep. I just bought this reel, smaller size, and ugly stick for my son. Can’t wait till he opens it on Christmas.
@@momoftwinsx231 my two fav combos are my ugly stik Gx2 with a Daiwa BG3000 and a Ugly Stik Tiger with a penn Fierce 5k. Smart mom!
Been watching your videos last few days. I am confused in most vides you say you're using #15 braid. what size braid do you use the most on your 4000's 15# or 20#?
15# is what I use the most on the 4000 size reels. I only have one spooled with #20.
60$???? Mine was 100$ Canadian and just got it this year 2024 😅😢 yikes
Love the reel thought
Sorry man the upgrade is not that much I will stay with the III.
1st finally 😆
Most tackle is designed to catch fishermen, not fish. If I was selling tackle I'd do the same.
I want to purchase new fishing tackle but its killing me that its all made in china as a result I haven't bought anything
shimano and daiwa aren't (but not made in USA either)
