The only problem is the line lay. On mine if I drop-shot the braid (15lb. Powerpro) does not lay evenly on the spool. Other than that, I agree, they are fantastic!
I bought a daiwa regal lt 2500 on sale for $39. Definately impressed for that kind of $. Sticker on the shelf said $69 but rang up $39. Not sure if it was a mistake but its nice enough that i may go back and snag another...
@jeffnaval4894 good to hear man. I'm still extremely impressed by the Regal LT. Ended up buying another in the 3000 size. Without a doubt the best $39 reels money can buy...my only concern was durability but so far so good.
Love the budget recognitions. Another budget guy is the guy who knows his stuff(cough: watches all your vids), is an above average fisherman, but doesn't get to go out very much, so he doesn't need a $200 bells and whistles reel. Also, some anglers might prefer a budget reel due to the weight of it to balance the budget rod. It may not make sense to throw a super light $200 reel on a $100 rod due to the weights of each item. Love these vids! One last thing, if you're not in a rush, it really pays to search around and shop the sales. You can easily get mid range stuff Matt and Tim mention for budget prices.
I must be missing because I love my Pfluger Presidents. They handle Erie's smallmouth, 10 lb drums, and steelhead in strong river current just fine. I will come back to this video if I ever have to release one.
My favorite overall reel is still my Daiwa Regal X 2500c. The main difference being I got my iteration 23 years ago and it weighs almost 12oz. The anti-reverse is classic Daiwa instant, all the important internals are metal, and I'd wish anybody luck on trying to flex the frame stem. I may eventually swap out the old body bushings but they're glorified spacers so it wouldn't do anything but change the feel...something I've gotten quite attuned to.
I swear I bought a 15$ Chinese 8000 size reel around 3 years ago and it's still rolling incredibly smooth and durable to this day. You don't have to pay triple digits for a decent or even great fishing reel nowadays.
Same here. I beat it up big time, fresh and salt, and it still works super hard. Mud, salt, weeds sucked up inside of it while turning are nothing to the Nasci!
Hidden gem? It’s probably one of the most popular spinning reels on the market due to it’s wide availability. Wal-Marts carry Presidents across the country.

WOW the finesse vs power shimano lineup makes so much sense. Come to think of it, I’m sure they’ve always been doing it. Thinking back now to when the first Stradic Ci4 came out at the same time as a white Stradic (who knows the letters). Definitely what they were going for then too.
I have the regal, nasci, fuego, mirabel, legalis and abu García revo 3x. Just started fishing last year and I definitely agree with your assessments guy. Eventually I will graduate to the vanford and stradics.
No stradic on the list?!? The stradic FL is on sale at TW for $140 right now. You're not going to find a better value for the money than that! Love your videos guys.
It's clearly a winner for the price point and anyone who thinks otherwise is biased. Matt talked about it on an Expride. I put it on a 7'med Expride and couldn't have been happier. Yes it's heavy compared to Vandford but it's built like a tank and hasn't felt differently in 3 years.

This video deserves 100 likes per person for us Shimano guys simply for the clarification of the head spinning line up. 😂 Thanks for that. Picking up my first “enthusiast” level spinning set up soon and can’t wait.
I have a Diana and two Shimano spinning reels and all three are phenomenal, but I’m going to give it a while before I buy another 13 fishing spinning reel. The Prototype X I bought was not good at all, and it was like $150. It seemed good at first, but a small bur on the bell would catch and break my line. The line wouldn’t always go over to the guide when you’re reeling. I don’t want to crap on the whole company though. I have one of their rods and I love it, and it was only like $80. It’s my main wacky rig rod. I’ll be keeping an eye on the spinning reels, I’ve heard a lot of people saying they are getting better. Great video!
I'm shocked you guys don't have the Team Lew's Custom Pro Speed Spin Spinning Reel on here just bought one last year and it's hands down the highest quality reel for the price I've come across 👍👍
Should have touched base on the BG MQ, Tatula MQ or Balistic. Or Balistic MQ. Bg Mq is unbelievable especially for the price. Best all round reel hands down. Fuego is a finesse reel. Great reel at great price point. All these reels are better or worse for salt applications. That’s a whole other topic with even more choices. Great video guys!
Funny I like the shimano spinning and the diawa casting...the shimano drag on their spinning to me is just the best while the daiwa braking system is just alot better for me than the shimanos...i can skip docks all day with my tatulas with little issue with backlash while the shimanos struggle with it...the shimano casting do cast further for me so i love them for my cranking and open water applications...
Just realized as I’m watching the video that I’ve never purchased or used a higher end spinning reel! When it comes to spinning combos, I spend the bulk of my money on the rod because I want it to be as sensitive and lightweight as possible. The most expensive spinning reel I own now is the Shimano Miravel which is a great reel at it’s price point.
That is a common theme with spinning. Typically the better spend is in the rod. But there is a world of difference amongst spinning reels as well. That said, you grabbed the best "bang for the buck" spinning reel around!
Nice video guy's! I own 2 of the 17' Exsence C3000MHG and absolutely love them. I use them for power finesse. For finesse, I have 7 Vanquish's in the 19' and 23' models and they're also next level, IMO, the finesse KING of the hill. I also own the 19' Stella 1000, the 22' Stella c2000SHG and an old but still smooth as glass 2002 Stella FA 2500. The Vanfords are great reels but come in behind the Vanquish's but the price difference is something to consider. Someone's going to have to pry my Exsence's, Vanquish's and Stella's from my cold, dead hands.🤣
I used to only use budget Shimano spinning reels basically as on a set of guest/backup set ups on stream fishing set ups and used upper middle range diawa spinning reels on my personal rods especially bass and ultralight trout. The exsense was definitely the first Shimano that felt amazingly smooth and solid at the same time. I have a few nice okumas, a Pfluger magnesium ultralight, a couple of big worm drive ticas for the beach rod and my big catfish rod. I still feel like diawa has the better value reels in the 100-200 range, okuma in the 35-80, over 200 I try to stay out of but I would say pick up and handle the Shimanos and diawas in your range and see what makes you smile.
One suggestion if I may, would be informative to specify which models have threaded screw in handles💡 Personally I prefer a rock solid screw in handle.
I have a Twin Power 2500 FD I use for saltwater and freshwater. I found the two Shimano lines a few years on the Japanese website. I knew I wanted durability for saltwater with strength to fight redfish, then be able to bring it to the lake to wacky rig fish for giant bass.
I am interested in the TP2500FD like yours, compared to SHG it has double the max drag and 5.3 instead of 6 gear ratio. Is that why you chose yours over SHG?
On the 2 different types of spinning reels that Shimano makes, if you want both in one go with the newest Daiwa Exist. It is the ultimate in finesse and has the connectivity and smoothness of the Stella at a fraction of the weight.
Another great video guys! You two make such a great point about the drag systems being the main area of concern pertaining to performance, reliability and endurance. Because you do, I think you should consider at least mentioning quickly on each reel if they have the “back reel” switch on them. I’ve been back reeling my entire life because I am ALWAYS connected to the fish that way. As soon as a reels drag kicks in, an angler has just handed ALL control of the fish over to the reel. I would rather lose a fish due to my error than to a drag system. It has also taught me far more about staying connected to any fish on any gear during the fight. You guys are awesome and in all these years of subscribing, I don’t think I have ever made a suggestion. Keep up the great work, we need you both for our ongoing growth and success in this game of angling.
Unfortunately, back reeling is slowly fading away. Tim also loves to back reel and is constantly surprised how many brands are removing the feature all together. It's a bummer! There is absolutely no downside to doing it, and yet almost no one does.
@@tacticalbassin Thanks so much for the reply. Yes, it’s true. I fear it will become a lost art so to speak. It definitely makes me a better fisherman. I’ve been fishing Sadona reels for at least 20 years. At first because I could afford them. Now, just because I love those things. AND, they still have the back reel switch. I’m going to try out the Fuego after seeing your video. It has a back reel switch and is a full ounce lighter than the Sadona. Worth a try. Thanks again for all the work you two put in. I was going to buy some Tactical Eye Surrenders this fall but didn’t see them on sale. I must have missed it somehow. 🫤
Is there any BRANDS you would either A. Suggest is "ok/decent" or B. "Garbage/don't waste your money" Ugly stick,Zebco, profishiency, okuma, favorite fishing, quantum, abu Garcia, Lews...?
I wish you guys explained the difference in use and purpose between the different types of reels while also including the ratio of each you talk about.
Something of note is that the Miravel is part of the Magnumlite (finesse) series only becuase Shimano marketing says it is, not because it was designed like the rest of the series. The Nasci is not even offically part of the Coresolid (power) series, it really is just a Miravel minus some features.
I’m not one to grab a spinning setup but since saltwater fishing I’ve fallen in love with the Daiwa reels, I now own a BG, BG MQ, and a SALTIST MQ. The only other reel I’ll throw other than those three are the quantum smoke.
Im highly impressed, like these gentleman I’m rough as hell in my reels (dunked a lot!) and a lot of covering water on foot and usually get tossed in the sand when bait starts exploding. I’ve yet to have one issue out of these reels.
I was waiting to see what you have to say about the Shimano Sustain FJ because I had my eye on those but it didn't make the list. Is the Vanford as good or better since you focused on those? Obviously you're not reviewing every model in each brand. I'm curious about your thoughts. As always- great buyers guide.
I have a Stella. It's great, and I'm sure it will last years, but the Daiwa Legalis, Reveros, and Regal are so good I can't justify the price difference. But that Stella is amazing.
No mention of the BG MQ, or any of the other Diawas with the MQ frame. Best all around value and strength. Maybe because it’s sealed for saltwater, but as all around, diverse reels….they can’t be beat.
I like your videos a lot ❤ wold like to se a comparison between the Excence and the Vanquish. Im very curios about yor opinion. I know u fish bass snd here in Sweden we dont have them, but i take inspiration from ur bassfishing into my perch fishing.
def nice explanation on the shimano range. Shimano and daiwa def great and have a range of reel. The only other brand that also lasted for me and does great reels is Abu Garcia!
great video, I am a Daiwa spinner fan and just love the Fuego's feel and function, I feels so good I have never even wondered what a better reel would be like. A bit curious now...
I used to be a big PENN fan. Now I lean towards Shimano. I’ve tried Daiwa. Love the BG and picked up the Ballistic LT. I’ve had my Ballistics bail snap shut on me multiple times when going to cast. I find it hard to believe it’s user error as I’ve never had any of my other reels including the BG do it to me. I would like to try the MQ line of reels from Daiwa but I’m not a fan that they don’t sell a tool that’s easy to get to service their reel. Plus they don’t have the magnetic oil available that I’m aware of. Only oil is on eBay that’s not authentic and it’s very pricey.
Watching this as an amateur that doesn't want multiple poles thinking has anyone ever asked a fishing guy what they would have if the could only have 2 poles/ 2reels, like what I want for what I do is a catfish pole and a spinning combo,
Regal/Legalis arguably is a better reel for fresh water than Fuego and not just because they are cheaper. These 3 are essentially the same reel with most component switchable between each other. Fuego is magsealed which make it much harder to maintain than Regal/Legalis.
Great Review Video! My favorite gear reviews to watch - not just top end gear, but what you like and why you like them across the cost spectrum. Keep up the great videos 💪💪💪 Where would y’all put the Ballistic MQ in the mix?
You guys explain there is a difference in the Shimano line for power vs finesse. I really like the feel of the older Sahara reels in that $70-$80 price range. It's like it takes a little more torque to get it turning, but once it does, it is very smooth. Can I assume that is the "connected" feel you talk about in the power lineup? I have never been able to put my hands on the higher end reels you guys feature, so I have nothing to compare it with. When I pick up a Vanford, I don't care for it much. I ended up going with the Tatula LT line, but that isn't part of the quetion. It (Vanford) is clearly lighter than the Sahara, but it feels quite different. You guys place the Vanford into the finesse lineup. Would you further put the Sahara into the power lineup, albit at a lower price point, and would that explain why they feel so different?
I have several higher end Shimanos and Daiwas. I have the new Stella and Exist and so on. Out of all them the JDM Vanquish blows them all away. I would definitely give it a try. I never thought I would like anything better than the Stella but the Vanquish does it all.
Oh, we have them 😜 But we'd never suggest the masses should purchase JDM reels with no warranty, parts, or service available. Hopefully one day that reel or something like it appears in the US market.
Between the 19' and 23' Vanquish's, I own 7 of them. They're the ULTIMATE finesse king. From Trout to Crappie/Panfish to small to Med. Bass. The inertia to get them reeling is so easy and they're SMOOTH.
Have you ever tried out the Pflueger President? Seems to be around here that is the reel we all buy when we are looking for a "Budget" spinning reel . Wondering if the budget reels that you have in this video are that much nicer.
My highest end spinning reels are Ultegras, where do they fit in the line up? I have a mixture of different sizes, shallow and deep spools...I use them from creek fishing for trout to a little bit of inshore saltwater fishing (usually rely on my Daiwa BGs for that) and have never had an issue.
Having an Ultegra in my lineup the same size as one of my Miravels, I'd say that it's parallel on the Power side....so a step or two up from the Nasci on that side of the line.
Something that is never mentioned When talking about reel 34:18 's whether bait casters or spinning Is the quality of the bearings in the reels. Not necessarily the quantity of the bearings. This is what helps with the longevity of your reels, The smoothness, And will also influence the price. In a lot of cases it is just a way of competing with the numbers some other real has And does not Is always affect the performance.

I’m a fishing traveler. Sometimes I might have to face a heavy cover fishing spot in South East Asia (for snakeheads, black bass, and peacock bass, etc.) and sometimes I might fish a open water (for largemouth bass, sky gazers, barramundi, etc.). And I wonder whether you guys can recommend us to find our suitable rods and reels for us. Thanks a lot. Appreciate it.
We've learned over time there are niche applications for a lot of products that aren't immediately apparent. That style of video has the potential to be viral but also really damaging to those companies and its possible to get down the road and find one of those applications. We'd feel terrible! The viral video isn't worth the damage caused.
@@tacticalbassin do you guys reach out to the manufacturers when products you try have issues? If I was running a company and a RUclips channel with 500k subscribers and a couple decades worth of experience with gear had a problem with one of my products I would really appreciate the feedback 👍👍
I can’t see the vanford for 200 plus. I’ve got plenty over 20 different flavors of reels I can take a songuylong ? And use diawa drag felt and grease them up and put them top bottom of the drag set and the 2500 reel u never know it was a 25$ reel. The drag is super slick enough noise and sings fish on
The only reason most newer reels don't impress me much is how many of them are all about weight relief in ounces. My old Daiwa Regal is impressively heavy, and I'm a sufferer of chronic arthritis with laughably small wrists. I've never thought to myself "I sure which this thing were made of balsa wood and plastic".
Great video! Just subscribed. I can`t make my decision between Shimano Vanford and Daiwa Luvias FC LT both in 2500S size. I`d like to use the reel for some rainbow trout fishing in fast moving rivers. Versatility will be an advantage because I`d like to pair them with Gamakatsu Luxxe Yoihime Hanna S610UL to do some offshore jigging for smaller species. What would be your recommendation? Thank you in advance! P.S. I got Miravel C2000SHG today, just because it felt sooo light in hand, really good reel to have especially considering its price.
Twin Power FD 2500 and 3000 are so similar with 5.3 gear ratio and 9kg max drag. Capacity and handles are different so which do I get or do I go with 2500SHG. Trout to 3 lbs some smallmouth
Damn, a tactical bassin vid that has nothing for me. but i still have to like it.😂 I honestly tried to use a spinning rod this summer because i moved to a smallmouth fishery recently. I cant do it. it just doesn't feel right when you get a good fish. good for skipping docks though.
Thinking about pullin the trigger on the shimano sedona i was wonder what bugget rod you guys would pair it with and if it would be more for finness or power fishing thanks in advance

I'm shocked you guys don't have the Team Lew's Custom Pro Speed Spin Spinning Reel on here just bought one last year and it's hands down the highest quality reel for the price I've come across 👍👍
Daiwa crossfire good choice
Daiwa Strikeforce great reel
Pflueger President 30 35 super nice
Spinning reel is more important than casting though, since you are relying on the drag over not really on a baitcaster
One suggestion if I may, would be informative to specify which models have threaded screw in handles💡
Personally I prefer a rock solid screw in handle.
I have a Twin Power 2500 FD I use for saltwater and freshwater. I found the two Shimano lines a few years on the Japanese website. I knew I wanted durability for saltwater with strength to fight redfish, then be able to bring it to the lake to wacky rig fish for giant bass.
That is an INCREDIBLE reel, great choice!
I am interested in the TP2500FD like yours, compared to SHG it has double the max drag and 5.3 instead of 6 gear ratio. Is that why you chose yours over SHG?
Surprised you didn’t include the Daiwa Ballistic! Built like a tank, excellent drag, great sensitivity transfer, perfect for giant Michigan smallies
Plfeuger president is by far one of the best budget spinning reals. For a higher cost. The stratic is THE epitome of nicest reals on the market.
It's just like y'all have explained to me between the Metanium and Aldebaren MGL's
On the 2 different types of spinning reels that Shimano makes, if you want both in one go with the newest Daiwa Exist. It is the ultimate in finesse and has the connectivity and smoothness of the Stella at a fraction of the weight.
Good morning TB! Headed to the lake now listening to this !!!!
Awesome!! Good luck today!
Matt, Tim, what category would Shinamo Stradic fall; power or finesse?
"Garbage/don't waste your money" Ugly stick,Zebco, profishiency, okuma, favorite fishing, quantum, abu Garcia, Lews...?
the best is shimano, diawa is okay penn is last
I wish you guys explained the difference in use and purpose between the different types of reels while also including the ratio of each you talk about.
Those reels are awesome. I'm on a pretty tight budget and I own a good line of the BGs and I've never had a single issue with any of them.
Im highly impressed, like these gentleman I’m rough as hell in my reels (dunked a lot!) and a lot of covering water on foot and usually get tossed in the sand when bait starts exploding. I’ve yet to have one issue out of these reels.
@@us_patriot_31b just keep em clean and they'll last a long time.
Package 4 you
Thx Matt and Tim for the videos! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 😁
Happy Thanksgiving!!
I’m wondering the same… seems like a great reel on paper but no one talks about it
I fish my Diawa Revros side by side with my Shimano Stradics. The Revros is impressive for the $44 I paid for them.
They're very impressive! We've never had a hiccup out of one.
You forgot the poormans stradic aka Ultegra 😂 love mine even though I have more expensive Shimanos
My favorite is the 2500 vanford.
Package 4 you
Intrigued to try out the 13 fishing ascent comp, coming from a person who uses diawa and Shimano spinning reels.
I’ve had a few diawa s. Still do. I like the old silver salt 4-6 k ish Works for catfish
I have a Stella. It's great, and I'm sure it will last years, but the Daiwa Legalis, Reveros, and Regal are so good I can't justify the price difference. But that Stella is amazing.
Exactly
Can expect to catch a 6-8 lbs trout now and then where I live. I’ve had good luck with the shamano ultegra running 5 lbs sunline flouro
Good video as always. Can’t wait for the combo video!!! Happy thanksgiving guys!
lmao TIM "all the abilities". Good one.
Great Review Video! My favorite gear reviews to watch - not just top end gear, but what you like and why you like them across the cost spectrum. Keep up the great videos 💪💪💪
Where would y’all put the Ballistic MQ in the mix?
You forgot to mention that Daiwas come with models, inside the models. Like the Exist has many finesse options within itself
@@tacticalbassin I would agree. That's also why I like the info you guys deliver. It pretty much fits all anglers.
My all time fav reel is the okuma ceymar
Matt/Tim, how often do you conducted maintenance on your reels and how necessary is it?
Been waiting all year for this one!
Awesome!
@@MNFisher that's what I thought, I know they took a lot of the tech from the twin power...I just don't have twin power money😂 thx for the reply.
Package 4 you
Nice vid you all are amazing
Thank you!
Thanks great vid . Looking for a reel for a new mega bass wind buster . Leaning to a 3000 vanford . Want to see more about the 13 fishing option . One thing people may not be aware of . Shimano has sone world leading gear manufacturing tech . And precision . Look at the common ground of there products . Fishing reels . High end racing Bicycle gear trains
Im excited to try the Fuego for salt with that budget magseal!
Penn spinfisher vi for 100$. Is spot on for inshore 3500 I have w 15 lb test running heavy swim baits 1-1.5 oz. Drags good enough
Curious if you guys have used any Kast King reels? Seems they have came a long way in technology at a good price!
And spot tails too!
Honestly a list of things you guys don't like and why would be extremely helpful 👍👍
I'm sure Matt and Tim aren't here to TRASH tackle. They just tell us they're honest opinion on what they recommend.
@@philipfalco7304I said "Honestly a list of things you guys don't like and why would be extremely helpful 👍👍" that my friend is not trashing tackle 😂
Have you guys ever checked out the daiwa Procyon? I love it! That and my vanford are my two favorite spinning reels!
What line is the Shimano ultegra? Finesse I assume? It would be a step up from miravel but a step down from vanford correct? Thanks
Twin Power FD 2500 and 3000 are so similar with 5.3 gear ratio and 9kg max drag. Capacity and handles are different so which do I get or do I go with 2500SHG. Trout to 3 lbs some smallmouth
Abu Garcia Zata sp30 w 15 lb braid 832 so far not bad but the nasci. 1000 w 6 lb test is a blast
Which side would the Ultegra fall in? I have one of them on one of my TW wish lists
Power bro, for sure.
The power side, Metal frame!
Damn, a tactical bassin vid that has nothing for me. but i still have to like it.😂
I honestly tried to use a spinning rod this summer because i moved to a smallmouth fishery recently. I cant do it. it just doesn't feel right when you get a good fish. good for skipping docks though.
Baitcasters are for noobs.
@@PsychicPsychToad I was being nice. ya lil fairy wand holder.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thinking about pullin the trigger on the shimano sedona i was wonder what bugget rod you guys would pair it with and if it would be more for finness or power fishing thanks in advance
What size braid do you recommend for 8lb and less for the leader knot to stay strong
Good post
