      @@michaelfrankis When you own a Daiwa reel, then you'll understand certain shortcomings of Shimano reels. There are advantages and disadvantages so it comes down to personal preference. For big reels on big fish if we're talking about spin reels then it's Daiwa all the way. Overhead reels on big fish then Shimano but the Saltiga LD and Penn International reels are solid. On smaller spin and overhead reels I prefer Shimano due to the better line lay and drag sound, but the Daiwa Certate LT reels are probably the smoothest reels one can buy in any brand. Build quality is where Daiwa excels, along with better sealing (although mag seal), gear power and body rigidity due to monocoque design, line capacity & lighter weight (except for Saltiga LD reels) and technology, but Shimano excels in line lay, casting distance, mostly louder drag sound and smoothness even over a long period. I have all mid-high end reels from both companies. The 2020 Saltiga is the ultimate spin reel and 2013 Stella in 2nd place. I prefer the current Twinpower SW over the Certate SW only due to smoothness and weight, but the Exist LT and Certate LT reels are elite from other Shimano reels of that size range.

    I’ve been fishing Shimano exclusively for 25 years. They’ve always been solid choices. Since then, I’ve moved to Florida where I’ve mostly been fishing inshore saltwater flats and the last two Stradics I bought are having issues. The newest one is seized up right after the one year mark (one year warranty) and the Stradic I bought about two years ago had a broken drag clicker. However, it is still functioning. For the first time I’m looking as replacing them with Daiwa.
    Note- I do rinse and maintain my feels. All my reels look brand new.

    • @larsvegas1505

      A broken drag clicker spring is a 2 cent part.. could fail on a daiwa aswell.. I own a ballistic that broke inside.. i can turn the handle the rotor doesnt move.. now thats a faillure.. Daiwa is solid aswell.. just a bit more expensive overall.. and not better then the shimano.. so if u want to pay another 50 bucks to get a comparable daiwa go for it.

    Great video! I still have the original Aero Stradic 2000. It's pearl white with a wooden handle and a aluminum spool and came with a spare. I've caught thousands of Bass on it. My P.B. 12.5 LB. Largemouth and believe it or not, a 140Lb. Tarpon (After a 3 hour fight). Now it's collecting dust because it weights 9.7oz. I have a few 18' Tatula's and 2 Stradic FL in the 1000 and 2500 sizes and just love my Stradics. I don't feel the need to get the FM. My FL''s are perfectly smooth with NO handle play.

      I think Daiwa would have something to say about that. Daiwa's MQ reels can house bigger main gears in smaller reels which make them a lot more powerful and possess greater body rigidity. Also magseal technology is way beyond what Shimano offer even though it requires Daiwa servicing. The 2020 Saltiga is the finest spin reel ever made even though I highly rate the 2013 Stella.

    • @tbauer2521
      @tbauer2521 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@slyarsenalMQ is daiwas way of saying they don't want customers to service their reels. That won't go well with saltwater guys. While an oversized gear, I don't believe the MQ's, at least lower ones, have a particularly robust gearing. If what the above reviewer says is true of the certate I certainly wouldn't want one. I'm easy on my reels and they don't require much for service. Once I can't find any prior MQ daiwas, I'll be going to Shimano. MQ is a bad direction, just think if all manufacturers start making all products non serviceable.

    • @slyarsenal
      @slyarsenal 8 месяцев назад

      @@tbauer2521 I'm a Saltwater fisherman both off the rocks and boat. My gear is exposed to a lot of harsh conditions so I prefer Daiwa. You can buy tools to open MQ reels which I have and ferro fluid can be bought on ebay. It's just most people who don't know how to service their own Daiwa gear complain about it, but then again, sometimes I have no time so I just get it serviced for a small price. If you're a light fisherman then why are you even concerned about servicing MQ reels. You'd only need to have the magseals checked every 5 yrs, but by then I'm already upgrading to the next flagship reel. There are a few reels such as the 2013 Stella which I kept and didn't bother buying a 2019 because it's not better imo. In smaller reels I love MQ , especially when it comes to squidding amd popping lures. Overall fighting fish on MQ reels is so much more a pleasure due to hardly any flex. As much as I like working swim lures with my twinpower sw 6k, when it comes to fighting big fish the certate sw 6k's body is a lot more sturdy. There are advantages and disadvantages of both brands. Try slidebaiting with a shimano reel when you're casting over 120m with a 10oz weight, then try it with an MQ reel. You tell me which is easier on the retrieve when you need to check your bait. I guess a lot of people don't use a myriad of fishing techniques to understand what's actually better depending on the application

      Alot of loyal japanese shimano enthusiasts are rating the 24 Certate LT to be a superior reel compared to the Twinpower. It's a pretty close match up, but once you have a spin of the new airdrive reels you'll notice the difference.

    I switched to Shimano back when the Stradic ci4+ launched in 2016. I now own a Stradic FL and ci4+, Vanford, and a Sahara. Along the way I picked up a Daiwa BG and Ballistic LT. In my experience, Shimano makes better reels. The BG has been great but my Ballistic LT was a bit of a disappointment. Not as smooth as any of the Shimano reels and I’ve had the bail snap shut when casting multiple times. I’ve wanted to try out an MQ reel from Daiwa but seeing as it’s hard to service one yourself is a bit of a turn off. Daiwa doesn’t sell an MQ side plate tool and doesn’t sell magseal oil. You’d have to buy non authentic tools and oil from eBay. Not to mention how expensive the non authentic stuff is. Hopefully they begin to sell or include an MQ side plate tool with their reels and sell the magseal oil.

I was getting my saltiga's serviced there as well, I remember a 6500 saltiga's costs around 75 to do a major overhaul without replacing parts. They have a technician collecting the reels on fridays and dropping the ones from the previous week. I am ready to do my daiwa's myself as well now.

However, Shimano seems able to do both and with internet speed turnaround times it looks like that is the best strategy for putting gizmos in a box and selling them. Also Shimano has a huge r&d capacity due to their bicycle parts business where they command the market as well.

They both make incredible reels, I've used a ton of reels from both companies over 40+ years of fishing and honestly I can't choose a better brand. They're both covering all price points and the slower start up of the Shimanos feel better to me. More solid, more line manageable if that even makes sense. My favorite spinning reel is Still my 2006 Quantum pti 30. My father passed away and left it to me, and yes it's part of it, but go on tackle tours archives and it still might be the highest scoring reel ever!

    I think all new daiwas have initially smoother feel over the shimanos, its the larger gear teeth more contact with the pinion gear, my bg feels as free spinning as my stradic fl but i still think shimano has the better gear material and design over time for sure, it feels more connected especially under heavy load my 08 and 13 stellas feel unusually smooth now after a few seasons and basic service. And they super easy ro service, daiwa makes it hassle to do basic service which is a shit business strategy. Shimano is just the gold standard just make sure you dont overpay tho half of shimanos lineup is redundant just so they can sell more reels every year unfortunately, the new stellas and twin powers dont hold a candle to the certate let alone the new saltiga but saragosa, stradic, vanford thunnus ci4 are class leading beasts and all you will ever need for 99% of people unless ur chasing monsters consistently then buy a used stella 2013 or new saltiga despite the service issue. Daiwa catalina and isla is underrated reel, but if you broke the fin nor lethal 100 is an unusually overbuilt boat reelz shit has insane gears and drag along with design that can hold that much drag. Also Skip the bg mq and saltist mq its basicly just a sealed bg. The regular bg does everything th same if you need sealing buy a saragosa

    I have just opened s stradic 5000FM and found it very disappointing. All the gear used to turn the worm shaft are plastic, the main gear bearings are shot, that's the reason most Stradic FM sound as if something was touching, then the spool shaft end piece, that aluminum knuckle dragging on the worm gear is completely corroded and falling in pieces on mine, just bad aluminum can't resist humidity haha, the reel has never seen salt water. Had the reel 2 years and it is basically junk, I have Stradic 4000FI I use for branzino that stayed in the boat all season that are 15 years old and in better shape than this. Noisy, lots of play in handle meaning the gear clearance is too big or just approximative ( hold the rotor in one hand and turn the handle with the other), cheap insides. CI4, Vanford, SW are much better bang for the buck even at higher price tag. I have TP 4000 a real beauty inside and out. All the reviews saying a stradic as good as a stella is pure crap and a lie, a spheros sw as good as a stella don't spend your money on stella that is also pure crap and a lie..i had a complete set of spheros sw, right out the box some showed gear issues, misalignment, strange inconsistancies in the manufacturing that do not happen with saragosa (different factory? different quality control?) 5 months later and after being rinsed at every outing and often cleaned using penn reel cleaner (great product by the way) the paint was peeling of the rotor, reels had never been knocked, again pure crap. Managed to sell those for half their price after 6 months, no one was going to give me more than that. In opposition a 1k $ reel still resale 500 ten years later even with spare parts starting to fade. Buy one and keep it 10 years, the latest reel does not bring more fish.
