YEP. Seen many terrific bands live, have always wondered how this band, this lyrisist, wasn't among the biggest. Then I came to realize being one of the biggest doesn't mean you aren't one of the very best. These guys, this lyrisist, most defintely are one of the very best in our time and all time! JUST WOW!!!!!
My brother introduced me to Del Amitri in my late teens and Hatful of Rain is on my list of most favourite albums. He passed away two and a half years ago and I have to pick my moments when I listen to them. This band surpasses many and how they're not up there with the greatest, we never understood.
I'm sorry for your loss. Your brother was a wise man. If you haven't yet you should follow Justin Currie's music. Same great songs, lyrics of the Dels w/o the same attachments.
I'm a huge Justin Currie / Del Amitri fan. However, I never really liked this song (Be My Downfall) very much ... until I heard the live versions. :-) Now this is one of my favorite songs by the Dels. I hope I get a chance to hear him perform live before he retires. My all time favorite Del Amitri song is Long Way Down on the Lousy with Love B-sides CD. I have never seen a live version of it. Wish he'd perform that song!
I remember seeing this on tv in the 90s, around the time I saw them in Norwich in the Some Other Suckers Parade tour. Always been a big fan of the Dels, seen them several times but this was the first time I'd heard Drowned on Dry Land. It it a wonderful, emotive song and deserves better than to be absorbed into Be My Downfall (a song which, to my mind, remains the Dels' finest hour). A great, great band.
There was a time when Del Amitri, Texas and KMO were necer out of the Barras - and they played at each others concerts too. Late 80's early 90's awesome
Saw them perform in Utrecht (the Netherlands) in the beginning of the nineties. Their songs never bore me. Especially this one! What an amazing band. Thanks for this video!
This song will forever remind me of a 7 year bitter/sweet affair. The lyrics perfectly describe the desire and guilt of an adulterous relationship - so good and so wrong. Del Amitri was the soundtrack to my life with her - then it ended. Saw the Justin Currie at ULU not long after the breakup and when he played this it was emotional to say the least.
Incredible songwriting from Justin. Just blows my mind how he can dictate the entire band with just an acoustic. The harmonies are spectacular. That’s the first thing I noticed, the whole ensemble compliment each other, the transition into “drowned” is flawless and I would give my first born to shred accordion like Andy Alston.
This is clearly a professionally done video, which makes it all the more frustrating that it can't be legally downloaded anywhere. The same with the actual song of Drowned on Dry Land, I know I would pay to have them both in my collection. I love these guys, and wish more of their performances and songs were available.
www.discogs.com/Del-Amitri-The-Best-Of-Del-Amitri-Hatful-Of-Rain/release/9074445 - if you still have af VCR, you can get the concert on this VHS along with all their music videos :)
I saw D.A in Hannover germany in a club wherethe croed limit was 300. There was at least 600 packed into the place .I fixed the men´s toilet for the club because I was pissed (for americans drunk) the best concert of my entire life. Sadly they dont exist anymore
Thank you for the upload! This brings back so many memories and so many emotions. I had the fortune to see the Del's live in the early/mid 90's and this is just how I remember it. Cut to 2018 and I saw them in the same venue, the same people alongside me, and it was equally as brilliant; and not a tad nostalgic. Even managed to buy a signed poster and a signed copy of Into The Mirror. Such an underrated band but, I kind of like it that way.
Fantastic . At last I've found/seen "Drowned on Dry Land". As Celtic Ghirl says,it should have been a single or at least on an album as it's just brilliant. Got to go now - I've got a special evening planned...............
Love this and like other comments I will never understand why they weren't bigger ! They will always be my favourite band Hatful of rain my favourite 💕
Great! Wish that this outstanding concert was issued on DVD in the US, or anywhere! Love the thing that Justin says about the Pasta Bella restaurant before this: "Air conditioning - that's handy here in Aberdeen...OPEN THE F!*%$#g WINDOW!!" ha ha! Thanks for posting this.
This song was the flip side to Del's hit song "Always the Last To Know." It's one of the few times where the B-side was better than the hit. Nick Gilder's BackStreet Noise was another great B-side (to Hot Child in the City). Downfall got me thru my first major break-up. I found it by accident, went to put Last To Know on, heard this instead. Been in love with it ever since '92.
Your English is so much better than my German so I’ll just say Danke , very well explained and yes , one of my all time favourite bands too , waking all hours is one of the greatest all time albums , still gets a regular airing in our house even after all these years . 👍🏻
As fans of Del Amitri you'll probably like 'Drowning on Dry Land' by Mannfred Manns Earthband' from the 'Watch' album. It has the same melancholic Mitsubishi yakamoto...
I do have the Aberdeen show on VHS, though. It was packaged as an extra on the 'Hatful of rain' hits collection. There is Macrovision protection, which stops it being transferred to DVD.
I have the Video for this concert and he defo does say it , i should really get it converted to DVD......I forget about drowned on dry land .......so good
Interesting fact here (I was from these times). About the episode of "Friends" where Ross has to wear them there leather trousers..... OBSERVE as you will, what our man Justin is wearing during THIS song? The Same! Well that'd convict you in a court once the SNP are finished with fkin up our legal system .... That aside, I think I might grow some sideboards.
@schirmmutze Del Amitri does not exist anymore. Singer/songwriter Justin Currie is stil active though. He has made two solo albums ( What Is Love For and The Great War). Justin is currently touring, see his "My Space"
I just read where this footage is from. The TV station probably edited that bit out since Justin said some bad words. I have a dodgy tape copy made from a UK tape transfer to VHS. This band was pretty impressive and Justin's songs are still incredible.
just wanted to say that i've sent a copy to maybe 20 people and about half haven't even said 'thanks'. only three have given a 'thumbs up'. not much to ask.
@Farjamed This is as close as it gets to the tuning Justin uses in the video. Just Google: the5thfret/chords/change/be_my_downfall and it will come up as the first hit.
It's so weird...I have been listening to their music for a few years now (thanks to Scrubs...the soundtrack to that show is amazing, no matter what season) and I never bothered to look up their videos on youtube till now. They look different than what I imagined...not bad, just different lol. I love their sound though and their lyrics always hit home for me:).
Who can tell me where this concert was and what year? I'd have to say that I'm sure it was recorded and if so, it should be released for sale for us all
Aberdeen Richard he cracked a joke about air conditioning in a local restaurant in freezing Aberdeen. Not sure about the year but I watched it on a Sky Arts or BBC4 show one night. Amazing gig!!
One of my favourite Del Amitri songs - but play the acoustic guitar and I go weak at the knees anyway! To this day, he's still a handsome dude - well for an old git (LOL - joking)...Gosh, wish I had a Downfall tonight :-)
@Farjamed Hi man I play this in standard e a g b d e tuning without a capo (or a capo on the first fret depending on the pitch of your voice) Played in G. try playing a C shape on the third fret for the D major. Sounds great. You could also try dropping the top E string to a D and play that open. See what you think and let me know how you get on. Happy New Year to you - Steve
@rob5413 I fully agree, well put rob5413. Have you heard Justin’s new record? It’s available on Spotify. Could have been Dels album, then again Justin wrote the vast majority of their songs.
One more thing. I dont know where youre from, meaning if you have access to Spotify or not, but please note the Spotify link just below the clip information (top right corner). Here you can listen to the original song shown in the video. Thus contributing to the wellbeing of the best song writer ever around (Justin Currie)
@grimbleness Especially She Cuts Her Own Fringe which would have fitted right into any Dels or Justin Currie record. It has all the Justin trade marks, excellent melody and lyrically I guess the title sais it all. spotify:track:5iV0rqgLZtT5w1ZzOJVQfY
@regattamelblanc I have just started to upload some old B-sides and rare recordings I have. They will come with lyrics, in lack of videos. So keep an eye on JustinCurrieFan, there will be some good stuff coming.
For Charlotte a.k.a. 'Charlie' (1992-1997) Thanks for turning me on to Del Amitri, it was the best gift you ever gave me in our short time together!
Just one of THE great live bands with the greatest songs. The most underrated band ever. Just brilliant!
YEP. Seen many terrific bands live, have always wondered how this band, this lyrisist, wasn't among the biggest. Aw damn!! PREACH! OH SO UNDERRATED!! Loved them since 1992....
You don't see talent like this anymore, such a shame :(
BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL 🥰 BEAUTIFULLY SANG STILL LOVE YOU ❤️ DEL AMITRI YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN AMAZING 🥰
Great voice, great lyrics, great songs and great guitar - I was there and , did I mention , they we’re great
Amazing Band! Justin Currie is one of Scotland's great singer / songwriters! dx
I fell in love with this band in th beginning of the 90s. I think I'm falling for it again...
WHY ISN'T THIS RELEASED FOR ALL TO HEAR? BRILLIANTLY PLAYED AND SUNG>>>>HARMONY IS SPOT ON!
This concerts needs a dvd release
My brother introduced me to Del Amitri in my late teens and Hatful of Rain is on my list of most favourite albums. Greatness is often missed by people who don't deserve to be touched by it
I play this every year on the anniversary of my mates passing, Come on down we're waiting for ya......
Del Amitri are one of my favorite bands ever. So many amazing songs.

Outstanding....Drowned on dry land is so great...Love JC`s expressions on his face while singing....I wish I was there....
he has one of the best voices in my opinion seen them many times shame they stopped
I've watched this so many times and each time it takes my breath away. They all look in their element, especially Justin. Perfection 👌🏼
i was fortunate to meet and speak with Justin and he couldn't have been more gracious with my questions. Prayers for a recovery CHEERS!
one of the best and most under- rated lyricists ever... in my humble opinion! Phenomenal talent, great upload, cheers x
Have seen the Dels many times and can honestly say that they were pure dead brilliant as they would say in Glasgow!
Only 1 word..........CLASSIC.....
One of the best songs ever and so true
Looking forward to their new album 2021 😏
Be my downfall, be my slow road to ruin. ty 4 music boys, just brill

I'm from Aberdeen. Boy this must have been some time ago. The capital was a great venue for bands. My fav Del Amitri song.
Recorded on the 22nd of October 1997
@@wpcmth You can get it on VHS but i wish it was on dvd.
Stunning
This is a great song!

Amazing……
Superb.
@dnldslvstr Thanks again for sending me that! It's wonderful to have a permanent copy of it!
I used to have the whole concert recorded off uk TV on VHS till my flat mate accidentally recorded over it! Grrr!
As fans of Del Amitri you'll probably like 'Drowning on Dry Land' by Mannfred Manns Earthband' from the 'Watch' album. It has the same melancholic Mitsubishi yakamoto...
totally different song but 'Watch' is a great album especially California'
Schönes Akkordeon 🪗😻🙏😇
great song

Why is this Great band not bigger than U2? or a Famous
Because they mind their own business, unlike U2, that have a need to be crusaders for just about everything
theres a lot to crusade about
u2 pile of shite .
Bill True their early stuff was fantastic but the later material yes your right shite
...and I can’t stand U2.
@schirmmutze
Del Amitri does not exist anymore. Singer/songwriter Justin Currie is stil active though. He has made two solo albums ( What Is Love For and The Great War). Justin is currently touring, see his "My Space"
guitar is in open D tuning with a capo at the 5th fret..... (DADF#AD).....fucking awesome!!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just read where this footage is from. The TV station probably edited that bit out since Justin said some bad words. I have a dodgy tape copy made from a UK tape transfer to VHS. This band was pretty impressive and Justin's songs are still incredible.

i have "wheels of wonder 12" 1989 by Kevin McDermott you just reminded me grimeness so thanks
You're welcome, they are from an old Swedish Television broadcast. 1998 if I remember right.
@Serioussmile51
Drowned On Dry Land was never a B-side, and has only been officially released on the the live VHS tape "No Better Location".
Its from the No Better Location DVD or VHS
thank you for the info...I've always wanted a live dvd of Del Amitri
I love Justin Currie - that’s all I have to say.
GENIUS !!!

@beerzippy It is not Del Amitri, but Justin Currie has a new album out now (The Great War) and that is as close as it will ever get.

You missed a treat. Del Amitri were brilliant live. I saw them 4 times in the 90s.
Annoyingly, this and the 'Let's go home' video can't be found on DVD!
@regattamelblanc
I have just started to upload some old B-sides and rare recordings I have. They will come with lyrics, in lack of videos. So keep an eye on JustinCurrieFan, there will be some good stuff coming.
