The first comment I have ever written on youtube. As an englishman, I will say this, the greatest ever lyrics, their sense of melody and harmony - they should be recognised as something profoundly important. They transcend this pain inside that we have all felt and make it beautiful. Genius.
I spoke to David (short hair only English man in the band) he blames by than their band manager. David was the only English man.they appeared even on David Letterman talk show. How comes this band as not famous as Culture club's, Boy George, Rick astley bloody computer generated voices like pet shop boys! F..sake what went wrong!...
Why why why were Del Amitri not more well known? Somebody somewhere in their promotion did them a grave wrong. This kind of talent is world class. Justin is an amazing songwriter and singer. Deserved to be there alongside the greats. Way better than many overhyped groups we’ve seen come and go. 90s music was amazing. What an amazing soundtrack to our lives we 70s kids have had...
Gday , well maybe think about , they have some much telent but would not except the evil music industry so where not promoted. Aussie band cold chisel suffered this fate, brilliant band huge in oz never made it over seas , they are and where men of honor, ssme as del amitri ... love from Australia
Del Amitri....One of the most underrated bands ever. Anyone who has ever seen them live knows this all too well. And Justin Currie as a lyricist....no-one writes like he does. Chris Difford (Squeeze) was on Ricky Ross’s show the other day saying he always wanted to write a lyric that came close to something Justin would write. Think that says it all.
Not that I disagree with him (cos he's brilliant too) but Difford saying this about someone else just sums it all up. I always thought Del Amitri never got the fame they so deserved.
At 61 I have listened to a lot of music, but I can honestly say this is one my all time favourite songs. This was the track that got me interested in them, and they haven't let me down yet. Great to know that they are back on tour.
Another Del Amitri song that speaks to common themes and fundamental truths. I've been here, haven't most people? A fateful arrangement of stars is all it takes to reveal the weakness in any of us.
My favourite song by Del Amitri. I first heard the song during a holiday trip to Egypt in 1992 on a TV set, probably in a MTV show. I thought: Hopefully I will remember the song (and the band) when I'm back home. I did and bought the record. I never regret it. A totally underrated band from Scotland such as The Pearlfishers.
I am 31 years old, I found a tape for this album while op shopping in New Zealand, it have been my soundtrack for most roadtrips on the last 2 years. They are definitely underrated, but somehow I found it, and brings my amazing memories 😊
I have read so many comments about how Del Amitri deserved to be bigger than they were, but I think....it is not my loss that this band found me!! It's the others who are missing out! And much of the delightful shit that is listened to nowadays can hardly be classified as music....not like these guys! This is real music!! Thanks Fellas!!
Met Justin and Iain when I was an extra for the Scotland World Cup song video (a great song in it's own right) - they were so down to earth and pure gents. They have always been my favourite band (along with Big Country) and never tire of listening to them. Lyrics are pure poetry with many summoning a broad range emotions and relatability.
I'm 54 & growing up Scottish bands were always coming down to England ( Big country etc) & we fell in love with them. Del Amitri are one of them, I love em ♥️ come on Scotland (can you believe I can't find a Scottish emoji flag ! Ps I love Big Country)
Hi David, how right you are, I’m a 55 year old Scotsman and I loved both of the aforementioned bands, the album this came from (Change Everything 1992) was utterly brilliant and their next album release (Twisted 1996) was every bit as good, Justin Currie and Iain Harvie were a fantastic songwriting duo and this Band in a world with any Justice would and should have been massive, the same applies to Big Country also….a lot of incredibly talented people in both bands ♥️
@@FallNorth Ha! Not sure that's a part of my life I wanna have to bring up again but lets just say, my life could have turned out a whole lot "better" had it not been for that one f*cked up night! Anyway, onwards and upwards! 💪😁
@@angelacrolla5797 Back in that era I also used to have sideburns that my workmate called "Buggery Grips". As long as it didn't involve Justin Currie and a strapon, you probably won't shock me ;)
@@FallNorth haha! 😆 No strap on involved 🤣 although I did have a huge crush on Justin Currie back in the day...he had great hair!! 😃 I saw Del Amitri play live twice. Brilliant band. Still listen to their stuff today. Their songs bring back a lot of memories for me...some good....some bad. Bring back the sideburns! 🤟
My favourite band in the 90's without a doubt. I was lucky enough to see them a few times at the Barras. I am always transported to Buchanan Street Bus Station when I hear this song and my heart is pulled. Saw them with Squeeze last year. Just loved it. Thank you boys. Hope Justin keeps well. 🙏🏻❤️
Seen them twice - once when we were down in Kent and once when we are now near Newcastle. Some of the best songwriters ever - right up there with Jeff Lynn and McCartney.
At this juncture of my life, I feel absolutly priviledged to have been in my teens in the 90's. What amazing music we had!!! Songs like these were the soundtrack to our lives.
I was in my 20s and saw Del Amitri live .. so many of their songs strike a chord with my life back then. Nothing really these days compares to the lyrical skills bands like this had. We’ve probably lost that forever which is incredibly sad.
Yea buy could Justin twerk and call his hoes "bitches". When it comes to our teen years and as to what we learned as we grew up, It's a double edged sword, other kids now know different, they have tiktok. Oh wait. Yes. Another mass gun murder yesterday in Prague. Anyway, as I was saying?
The bus is pulling out and I guess Id better go Before I make a grave mistake and let my feelings show And twenty miles away she waits alone for me But when I try to picture her youre the one I see And in another situation I could put up a fight But you will be my downfall tonight So the night is coming down, drowning us in blue And it all points towards the things we know we shouldnt do And as I look at you and I fall under your spell Well I know I should be thinking of her lying there herself And when faced with temptation you know a man should stand and fight But you will be my downfall tonight Be my downfall be my great regret be the one girl That Ill never forget Be my undoing be my slow road to ruin tonight So the bus is pulling out and Im grounded here with you And I want to say the sweet things babe Ive always wanted to So tell me now the tail-lights have gone out of sight Baby wont you be my downfall.... .....once again tonight.
My situation + 30 years ago. Had a lovely girlfriend but another one came into the picture. Didn´t fall for the temptation although close, but I still think about "the other one and what could have been.."

Wow great comment
How he hasn’t made billions writing for other artists, I’ll never understand. Maybe he didn’t want to. One of the best songwriters ever, no doubt.

Such an underrated band. Brilliant songwriters. They write about the things that most of us go through ourselves.

Against a catalogue of quite superb songs, this track remains - and always will! - their finest hour.
What a song!
The most under rated band ever. I love The Dels.
one of my absolute fav songs from one of my fav discs - thank you Del Amitri

Filmed in Chicago, a city that was very good to Del Amitri especially a radio station called XRT
Such a well written song
Incredible song by an amazing group. yet another genius Scottish songwriter. Love this group so much

My best mates's brother put me onto them in 94. I put the missus on to em in 95. She put her best.....The good will out. Unreal band.
A quite brilliant short story with a wee sting in the tail at the end.... Just beautiful.
Always has been , and always will be one of my absolute fav songs.

The bus is pulling out and I guess Id better go
Before I make a grave mistake and let my feelings show
And twenty miles away she waits alone for me
But when I try to picture her youre the one I see
And in another situation I could put up a fight
But you will be my downfall tonight
So the night is coming down, drowning us in blue
And it all points towards the things we know we shouldnt do
And as I look at you and I fall under your spell
Well I know I should be thinking of her lying there herself
And when faced with temptation you know a man should stand and fight
But you will be my downfall tonight
Be my downfall be my great regret be the one girl
That Ill never forget
Be my undoing be my slow road to ruin tonight
So the bus is pulling out and Im grounded here with you
And I want to say the sweet things babe Ive always wanted to
So tell me now the tail-lights have gone out of sight
Baby wont you be my downfall....
.....once again tonight.
I still hear this lyric as someone turning to a bottle or a needle and cheating their lover in that context

It's how it goes. The younger generation that writes the newer songs doesn't have our life experience. They'll only get better with age.
