Lets mount and test it on my WPL c14 kit. This is really a 1/10 scale winch that is meant to be used on the Axial SCX10 or TRX, but I will stick it onto the most common cheap RC today, the WPL C14. Lets do it.
And I also pull stuff with it, ahahaha.
I never knew a JST connector would fit into a standard Sanwa 3 Pin receiver , Now I'll buy one of these Winch's , Thanks for the video buddy :)

The only thing I don't like about this particular winch, is the way the wires exit at the end of the motor. I would much rather have them come out closer to the winch itself so the electrical connections were covered/protected. There are some others that look similar to this one with a fully covered motor end. Btw, you can add a wireless remote kit to that winch, They're around $10-15 US. The kit is useful if you don't have an unused channel on your hand held controller. No need to use that manual switch. One more thing, there are now RC winches that have a quick release button, which allows the motor to free spool out the line instead of waiting for the motor to unwind it slowly.

I can’t take this seriously... it’s hot glued, and mounted 90 degrees from normal. Also, out of scale for the truck.
Hey man! Let me tell you this, I hate crawlers, I will never drive a crawler more expensive than this WPL, I only used this model to simply test the winch. And BTW the got glue has held up perfectly. If you watch my newer vids you will see I mostly run GAS and Nitro RCs and actually always make fun of crawlers.

These are advertised for TRX-4 so I got one for my TRX-4 defender,I just got it today and found out that I also needed to buy a Male JST connector to a female servo to receiver connector😐 now I have to wait another week to be able to install this in my rig😬
hey buddy, sucks to hear you couldn't play with it right away. I highly recommend you buy a set of JST connectors that you can build and solder yourself. My set of 10 JSF plugs have saved my RC life many times. Also get heat shrink tubing.

hybrid32494 oh I suck in soldering 😐 back in 1990 in San Diego,my brother in law did all the soldering for both of our RC-10s 👍🏼 but I’ve been here in NC now for a while so I have to just buy adapters and extensions on eBay😐 Love what you do for the rc community ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

hey dude!! good luck, this is a cool gadget for the price and function. let me know how you like it. I am working on replacing the metal braided cord with something that can spool in easier. The metal is very good looking, but needs a good amount of tension to reel in correctly, let me know if it bothers you also..

You lost me at hot glue. It kept getting worse when you said it needed a switch mounted to the truck. Thanks for convincing me to pass on that winch.
you're welcome! This winch is meant for a larger 1/10 truck (not the one I used in this video). I dont own any real crawlers because I mostly do nitro RCs yo know. Your'e right tho!
Seemed a little glitchy when pressure was applied maybe bcuz of the cable style cord? But for $15 bucks it works that's all you can ask for👌
yep I agree it is glitchy sometimes. But it's only because the built in overload protection works well and stopes the spool from spinning when the cord locks up. I'd say the actually metal braided cord is very nice and scale looking, but it's way too strong and not very flexible. it's also twice as long as it really needs to be, I think. You could replace it with any other cord btw.
I just got a wpl c24 and I'm looking for larger tires. Any idea? I've looked on eBay but there are tons but they are all the same as stock. I'm just looking for something maybe 1/2 inch taller and maybe 1/4 inch wider

ahhaha, I hate painting RC. LOL. Never liked it, such a waste of time because the first few flips or crashes and it's over.

hey man!! YE, this item is pretty solid and scale for the money. Only think I would change is to reduce the length of the meta braided cord or use a more flexible rope of some kind.
Unspool the winch and spool it back in with some tension. Should help with the cable getting loose.
Side note: (new to RC world) do you know if you can swap axles with a larger scale RC like a 1:12 mn90? They appear to have similar set ups
hey man!! thanks for watching!! I did unspool and tried to wind it back up, it does work with some effort. The cable itself is just not very flexible, you know. I just the other day got a new MN-90 RTR, will be doing a video on it this week. I can tell you for now that it's much better than the WPL RTR and the KIT (wheels are interchangeable) (not sure about axles yet). Although I will be getting out of that scale crawler scene after this one, i just dont see the value here anymore.
The axles cant be interchanged. They are of different lengths. You can check out one of my MN 90 videos where you can see the same.

I wonder if they already make RCs with built in "winches" on both (or more) units with elastic cords that automatically snap them back together when the time comes. So who's reeling in who here lol?
hey dude!! Ye after trying it out a few times I realize this winch needs an elastic top cord, the metal one is nice looking, but physically tough to use. The issue is the stress on the cord is just not enough with scale RC for it to wind up properly. The metal cable is just a little thick and too long for the spool. But it does work at least.
Can I connect this winch to a third channel instead of the switch?
so I checked it on a 3rd channel to see if the AUX switch works with it. Didn't do anything, it worked the same as usual. I think it's because there is only a 2 wire Receiver setup (red/black wires). But even if it did you would still need to physically extend the cable out with your hands after turning it on. This is true of all the winches, you know.
hybrid32494 the third channel on a transmitter is commonly a servo controller for a 2 speed gearbox or something. You would need a 3 position switch as a third channel which I believe comes on the enduro Sendero transmitter.
How long is the cable on these? I can't find that info anywhere. Thanks a lot.
hey man! Watch this video again at 6:40 timestamp, I literally measured the entire cable. It came out to be around 40 inches. You could always replace the metal cable with something more flexible and longer if you want. Using some thick fishing line would probably be ideal, this metal cable tends to bunch up if not wound up with tension and correctly.

Honestly even playing at 1.25x I couldn’t last through the video, i had already looked at too many and I was just looking for that detail and must’ve skipped to the next one. But thanks for bringing it to my attention! Does this have any sort of automatic cutoff when the cable is fully retracted, or is it all up to the user to control? I’m using this thing for a totally different application, a different kind of modeling project. Thanks.

You have the same fly sky remote I do man isn't there a way to use an extra channel on your receiver to run it? That would be cool trigger it remotely
hello, I just checked and plugged it into the 3rd channel connection on the RX and pressed the AUX button on the remote several times. It can't be controlled with the 3CH it seems. It's just a 2 wire power setup, so on or off. The 3rd channel does send power, but the AUX button has no effect even when you leave the switch turned on.

ye, you can get ones that are remote operated too. They are about 25-35. I just don't see the need because you still need to actually extend the cord yourself. You know. Your lights on the 3rd AUX channel are 3 wire or 2 wire connectors?

Hey man, it sounds like you want to run this for a fourth channel. You will need an auxiliary on off switch which you can often find on Amazon. They’re used to turn on and off accessories running from various channels.

HELLO, when I put this winch on, it did not require any extra parts. Everything was already here, you just plug it into the power supply of your current electronics and its functional.

@@kecikimba4347 ok i gotcha now. I have an MN-90 too. My Mn-90 was the RTR model, was yours an RTR model too? The issue is this WPL in this video started out as a kit model and therefore it has standard electronics that are hobby grade, not the original ones that come with the RTR models. What I'm saying is if you have the original electronics in yours you will not be able to use this system because the wiring will be completely different. Does that make sense, IM here for you man, any questions you got, im always glad to help.

@@kecikimba4347 You need normal hobby grade electronics, does your model have that? All these WPL and MN-90 models do not have standard connectors for their electronics, unless you modify it all like I did in this video, you won't be able to run any accessories.

nothing wrong with hot glue my dude. The glue has held up well and nothing went wrong. This is a toy grade RC, it's not meant to have a 1/10 scale metal winch like this. There is no other solution bro.
