For me, the “fun” way to play Illuna is to storm out. Picture this; no creatures in the deck. No artifacts. The only nonland permanents are Omniscience, Thousand Year Storm, and Eye of the Storm. Make a body for Illuna with a manland or a token producer and storm off. Kinda a glass canon because you can get unlucky and exile 60 cards from your deck and not be able to storm off, but that’s the kinda variance I’m willing to go with.
I did something similar, my targets were Maelstrom Wanderer, Omniscience, Eldrazi Conscription, Metallurgic Summonings, and Sunbird’s Invocation. I like the idea of Thousand Year Storm, may or may not swap Invocation for it.
Love the video, this video is way to high quality for how little views this has I will definitely be shouting you guys out next to my friends and whenever I can go to the lgs again. Keep it up
I actually happened to get Illuna from a random drop in MTGA, and decided to just try and throw together a Brawl deck with Illuna as Commander. Now I'm a pretty inexperienced player, and the past two Brawl decks I'd tried to build were complete failures, but Ive had a surprising amount of success with Illuna, and I found the deck really fun to play! Although EDH and Brawl aren't entirely the same, I'm glad videos like this exist to help me learn more about how to play my fave Commander
Tbh, I was thinking of making an Illuna EDH deck that was focused on the mutate mechanic. It would include multiple creatures that had indestructible and hexproof as their only ability as a sort of mutate foundation as well as multiple creature that could mutate for cheap with some cards to manipulate the top card of my library.
These videos are great even if you’re. It interested in making the specific deck. There are always so many cards I didn’t know existed that I can put in other decks!
Geddorah looks badass, the chaos version tho- holy cow, i didnt know there was that many chaos cards! I have chaos wand- which is super irritating enough lol. Illuna is scary- a bit OP if you asked me, but definitely a commander that will be in demand!
I made mine into a weird thing goal get infinite mana and lore drakkas with a copy target spell and abuse the legend rule. Congrats now you have your entire deck out on the field and the your wish effect procing 50 times before you are done
The new Brash Taunter from M21 is a gigantic flavor win for King Ghidorah that's also strong as hell! Anyone who has seen the movie knows that King Ghidorah is impervious to normal weapons (only Godzilla can hurt him), he absorbs damage and then sends it back in the form of energy blasts, and he fights. I mean, COME ON!!! Brash Taunter is also maximum value as a mutate target because it's a 1/1 so you know that all the value is packed into the abilities. I swear, it's as if they designed it with the King Ghidorah promo in mind. I'm just so happy about it!! :D
My take on this deck is that you should run only giant game ending nonland permanents. Running the creature lands, dryad arbor, spells that make tokens(dragon fodder etc), green spell ramp (cultivate etc). So the game plan is I'm going to play early creature token and ramp spells then I'm going to mutate my commander and hit an eldrazi titan or our favorite 11/11 trample infect blightsteel Colossus
I find my build a "fun" build. I went all in with the top deck. Cards like etali, chaos wand, mind dilation, sunbirds evocation. Casting random free spells off the top of my deck and my opponents deck
Food chain combo only works with cards that supply other creatures to be sacced to food chain because food chain doesn't account for commander tax so it works with cards like prosh but not illuna. And besides you run out of things to mutate it onto
@@ravencross6669 there are three cards that can be casted from exile, Squee the immortal, misthollow griffin and Eternal scourge. Generate infinite mana with one of the creatures that can be casted from exile and then cast it one more time one of them, then cast Illuna for Mutate cost, then repeat the proces until you find your wincon.

Yeah I love that approach.

and how r u mutating illuna?
SALFAZ LUCARIO You mutate on top of a token
@Drazatis do you have a example deck list for this? I want to try this out but don't know how to build this kind of deck
Cascade isnt on etb is on cast
Where are the 3 decklist for this Iluna :O

Zach, we appreciate you! That's awesome, made our day to hear. Glad you enjoyed it. I'll be making more of these as we see more Ikoria
yep that's youtube these days
I really like how added the Ghidorah aspect of this, as I want to build a Ghidorah deck.
I also like the mean cards for my Ian Malcom Chaos Deck.

Thanks for the positive vibes! I also have a stream replay of me playing this deck if you want to see how it operates

lol Chaos decks can be such a pain XD

Loving the chaos version, might go with that, fun tho seems fun lol, saved this vid for reference😁
Definitely want colossification, storm's herald, fling and such as well😃
I have a live replay of this deck when I streamed it avail if you haven't seen how the deck operates

Yeah, for sure. Guaranteeing you hit a game-ender is definitely a good strategy. Free permanents are always good!
I built illuna storm with the only nonland permanent being omniscience
Its my mutate commander deck its just for fun not really competetive but its kinda a laugh and really fun to play with.
Good stuff
JJB! Miss you man
I threw kinnan bonder prodigy into my Illuna deck. It works really well for getting the extra mana in when you need it
Yeah, Kinnan can get nutty
I built Illuna w ghidorah , but went with a haste extra damage theme.
I find my build a "fun" build. I went all in with the top deck. Cards like etali, chaos wand, mind dilation, sunbirds evocation. Casting random free spells off the top of my deck and my opponents deck
Put deck list in description!!!
These are mostly strategies and synergies! Joel will be coming up with a decklist just as soon as we can brew the deck and play with the cards.
Does food chain work with the mutate ability? I was thinking of food chain illuna play whole deck in one go.
So, I love this idea. But I believe food chain would check illunas cmc, which is 5 & wouldn't check the mutate cost of 6
Jake and Joel are Magic I have a build if it works if it doesn’t I’ll prolly just do the ideals of free stuff.
@@OfaThousandSons it works with Food chain. I already asked other people that play competitive commander. Even i was thinking if it was possible.

So one other thing so you get to mutate illuna on top of maelstrom wanderer and cascade twice again?
I don't think so.. the cascade would only trigger when MW etbs
Jake and Joel are Magic ahh so it’s just for the haste so the deck it’s just temur good stuff
Ghidorah, but no creatures. Only mana ramp, man-lands, and bombs.
That "mean" deck sounds like tons of fun. Should have named that one the "fun" deck
A lot of times Strong, Fun, & Mean overlap a ton
