The broadhead slots are for safely removing the broadheads from the arrow shaft for sharpening then re tightening the broadhead back on the arrow shaft.
Thanks for this video Jerred, i recently grabbed this very sharpener at a local store and up until now i had mixed thoughts on the thing. Sure i was getting better edges than i had been before that, but other people online n shit were saying how fantastic thier results were with the same object. Obviously i was doing something wrong. So i found and watched your video on this hand held sharpener and finally im getting some good edges! Im going to keep at it here and i know ill get better n better, thank you so much brother
That's awesome Christian if your interested I do have more videos on it, and a ton of Sharpening videos that will help with any system in my Sharpening playlist
I'm still not sure how you are actually supposed to use this to sharpen broadheads, but everything else on this system is super intuitive and easy to use. I love this field sharpener, and its actually good enough to function as an only sharpener if you are just wanting to maintain edc folders. As a backup and travel system, its fantastic. Worksharp is the best. Everything they make is good and priced so well, it's actually hard to believe.
@@robertvandiver8429I think you’re right. I have this one and the Montana Knife Company version, which also has a built in wrench. I think the guide angle on the MKC sharpener is 17 and 20 degrees.
I picked one up based on your recommendation and I love it!! Super easy to use. Shapes up an edge in no time which is what I wanted it for. Thanks for the heads up!!
Got a great edge on that system. I have all 3. That field sharpener. The one that will rock if you want it to. Also the Ken Onion with the blade grinder. Pretty much just use it on outdoor fixed blades, shears, loppers and some of my longer blades. It is always good watching you because sometimes I think I am not getting the burr should have had it by now then probably rush it. Now I know to just wait it will happen.
Yeah they sent that as well, so im going to get to test the whole system which is amazing, but theres times im the same way and it takes a lot longer to get the burr than ive ever shown on video, but i just relax and tell myself im not in a race and im not pushing for time im pushing for a great edge and sometimes it takes time
AMAZING. Can't wait to see your use and review of the ken onion edition with the blade grinder attachment! Those arrow pieces are so you can unscrew and screw on the arrow heads. That way you can take an arrow head off and sharpen it!!
Worksharp sent you guys some serious stuff! I'm jealous! Connie uses one of these at work, to help customers out, who ask. With the angle guide, she is able to actually use it quite well. Of course, I keep trying to ween her into free handing, but those training wheels are hard to remove.
Great analogy, and it actually works quite well the Ken onion works better than i woulda thought, im sure il just get better and better on it to, I mean its not like a freehand edge, but for people who like or dont mind factory edges its great, and for people that dont have the time or patience to learn, but like training wheels riding a bike without them is much much better. After im done if you want me to send it just say the word.
Just got one. ima thinking of putting a nail inside the void so I can stabilize it some in the field using the hole. Maybe it would help me not cut myself touching up a longer blade.
Why do I put scratches across the surface of my blade when I use that sharpening system??? And the handheld diamond sharpener that the diamond surfaces pull out of the handle and stick in the handle to use it too? I'm looking for someone to do a little something something to my Gail Bradley... take a little bit of the frame and scales down to get more access to the lockbar. I believe you have a video where you did the exact same thing. But yeah, I was wondering if you would be interested in doing three knives for me... a Hinderer Eklipse in Magnacut, the Gail Bradley in M4 of course and a St Nick's knives Manix 2 XL in 4V... I sent my Eklipse back to the factory and I wasn't impressed with the sharpening they did. At all!!!
Start on the other side next time to even it up. On some knifes it is easyer to remove the thumbstud first. I use mine a lot, works great on s90v and other hard stuff to. Top tip, you can put a pair of polishing films from a edge pro apex on the backside of your plates too ( you only have to shorten them a bit), i use a green and a yellow one.
Attachment all the way! Better angles and a whole lot faster. I don't like the regular hence it scratches the blade if you don't clean the guides constantly.. and I don't like to use masking tape.. too much of a hassle.
@@NeevesKnives Remember that work sharp makes a convexed edge.. the attachment has a wheel that can be repositioned so you can make the edge less convexed.
I have used this kit extensively, it is my go to for small pocket knife blades. My only real problem with it is that it can be very difficult to access the edge of the plates. This can be a problem when the handle gets in the way.
Yeah with my other diamond plates When im aggressive with them they dont last very long but when i dont use pressure and let the stones do the cutting and take care of them they last the moneys worth for sure
I'm thinking another good idea would be to put in a bench vice with soft grip magnetic attachments. You could free up the other hand for more stability.. Great video I just ordered one for my swiss knives.. 👍🏻
Great video showing how to use this incredible little piece of kit. I love mine. Purchased three....one stays on bench, one in the bug out bag and the other lives in my tackle box. You have to tip your hat to the folks at work sharp...their products just flat out work!!
I’ve been considering buying either this one or the other one that’s similar to this that work sharp makes but it’s a little different. I think the other one was called the work sharp guided sharpening system.
Yeah i think that one is a bit bigger i have some of the plates that go on that one, I think they are both great if your going to do most of your sharpening on it id get the larger one
Hey Jared, I’m looking into getting sharpening done by you but I don’t have Instagram so I can’t see any of your links. Is there anyway around using Instagram? Thanks buddy! I love your channel!
Not that it is very important, but a friend of mine has it and when I tested it, the 20° guide didn't seem to meet my bevel that was obtained with the 20° setting of the Spyderco's SHARPMAKER. When I placed my bevel flat to the stone ( with no shadows being cast) the angle of it seemed more acute than that of the FIELD SHARPENEE. Is it possible that the angles are a bit off? It looked to me that the 20° guide was set more to what it looked 25°. I think this is really extrange cause it's really easy for them to be accurate on the design, but... Perhaps my impression failed. I don't know.
One thing to consider is that the built-in guides technically base the edge angle off of the primary grind laying flat against them, not the true center axis of the blade. Because the Sharpmaker only contacts the edge and the user holds the knife vertical, the point of reference for setting an angle is different. The WS field sharpener's edge angle will depend on the knife's grind and stock thickness, regardless of if it's a true 20 deg.
I havent double checked it, but theres variables that can cause differences, after i have some real time with it im sure il check it, but i dont doubt if its not perfect its probably very close, and holding an angle wont always be perfect but close
@@NeevesKnives Sorry, sorry, sorry!!!🙏🙏🙏 My friend's sharpener is not the FIELD SHARPENER, is the GUIDED SHARPENING SYSTEM™ WITH PIVOT-RESPONSE™ with two possible angles 20º and 17º, also from WORK SHARP. Hello. I can't think of anyone better suited to review sharpening supplies. Just on the last video i noticed something you do that you must have talked about but that i missed. I know you showed the scratch pattern close up before but even then it didn't sink in as to why it was like that. I tried it and my knives just went from sharp to razor sharp. Thanks.
Yes Totally, your scratch pattern will always do better at an angle, factory edges are always straight up and down which works, but when its at an angle your grit is always going the direction your cutting wich makes for cleaner cuts
