If you're on the fence about getting one of these, just do it already. It's so worth it. I've been wanting to buy one of these for months, but kept buying knives instead. I finally got an amazon gift card for Christmas and decided to use it for this sharpener and some green compound. I don't know why I took so long to finally get one, it's not even expensive. It's completely worth the time and money. Mine just came in today and I've been sharpening my knives for like the last 5 hours. It's really therapeutic too. Plus seeing one of your dull knives go back to hair popping sharp is awesome.
@@frogsnacks yes. I've only tried it on my M7 bayonet. I'm not sure if I just suck at sharpening, or if it's just a hard knife to sharpen. I definitely got it sharper than it was. Then I kept going and it seemed to get less sharp. So I don't know.

My step-dad took me to Cabellas to pick out my gift for Christmas this year. Went straight to the sharpeners and got one of these. Been wanting one for months. I love it!
I bought this today. I was able to sharpen all my knives. I even found my old boy scouts knife that was in a drawer and was really dull because I never sharpened it. It’s about 25 years old. I took extra time on it and it’s like a razor now. Very good product.
My boy scouts knife was completely rounded because I would sharpen it on the back of a coffee mug. When I got into sharpening, I put a mirror edge on it.
I work in the tree & landscaping business as ground crew. I also own a knife sharpening business. I use this almost everyday to sharpen something. I once used the ceramic to sharpen a brush cutter. I never would’ve gotten one; but I had a lot of issues ordering my Pro Precision Adjust, that they sent this to me as a complimentary, “we’re sorry for the headache,” gift. I keep this with me all of the time. Oh, and I love the ProPA as well. This is the best, unexpected, thing that I’ve gotten. Use it everyday on knives, shears, axes, yes, and even brush cutter blades!!!
I just purchased this, from a local hardware store, yesterday. I’d put it off for well over a year as I have never been impressed by a field sharpener. They’re usually good in a pinch at best. It won’t replace your bench stones or wet stones but this thing is INCREDIBLE for what it is!!!
This thing is freaking great. I’m a master sharpener after 10 minutes of YT training, and I’m putting a razor edge on everything from my Benchmade to souvenir knives I got 30 years ago!
I received one of these sharpeners as a gift and I must say it is probably the best sharpener I have used to date. I use it almost daily to touch up kitchen knives and I take it camping with me to keep my outdoor knives sharp as well. It's very versatile and handy to have around. I did learn a few things about this sharpener by watching this video that I did not know it could do. Now I have a whole new reason to play with it when I get home, lol!
Simple question how many people did not know the actual sharpening. Stones lifted up to reveal a secret compartment. Because I saw that with instructions and everything. And it literally blew my mind. I cannot believe I didn't know this was here and I've had this for 3 months. My God, that is amazing. I was just super curious about making sure. I was using it the correct way and then. Boom that pops up I'm legitimately blown away right now. Does product lip from an eight out of ten to a ten out of ten
Love this sharpener!! I've been sharpening my knives for many years and this tool takes the place of many sharpening tools in one easy to use model. I guess the craziest thing I've sharpened would be a 45° router bit. Made like new again!!
Wow. Just wow. This sharpener is absolutely awesome. I bought one for my dad as a Christmas present and now I just received a second one for me because I just felt like I needed my own. And this video guide is perfect as well.
I'm gonna add on my review with everyone else on here..... I bought my sharpener last week before Christmas after months debating on whether or not I was gonna spend big money and those pro-grade wet sharpening stones. I will say this, after first use and trying it on one of my pocket knives to see if I can get a bit sharper, I was left speechless on how extremely well it worked on sharpening it, it left it razor sharp. After that test, I went sharpener crazy and began even sharpening some of my kitchen knives that I mainly rely on to filet or skin meats. As of now, they are hela sharp and ready for use. Now Keep in mind for those new to sharpening knives, TAKE YOUR TIME. Patience is key to honing the skill to sharpen your knives well, 5-10 passes on 1 side and repeat on the other. Luckily with this field sharpener, it's very easy to do.
This thing works great I haven’t bought a new blade for my utility knife for a year I keep 5 with me and just sharpen them up when I’m done with the job, also brought the edge on my hunting knife and fillet knife to a razor sharp edge! It’s a great product!
I have one of these and it is fantastic for all kinds of things. I've used mine to the point I need to replace it and that's *a lot.* I keep all my pocket/kitchen/belt knives sharp, touch up fishing hooks and more. I couldn't give it a better recommendation. I absolutely love the Work Sharp Field Sharpener! In fact, I love them so much I have 3, one in the house, one in my truck, and one in my pack, so I don’t leave home without one. It’s hand down the best field sharpener on the market and will dress up an edge if that is all that’s needed or take a dull knife to razor sharp! Like I said, one is always with me hunting, trout fishing or whatever my adventure may be.
Worksharp is my favorite sharpener brand and the guided field sharpener is my favorite sharpener and I believe that the guided field sharpener 100% works
I love mine, I've had it for years, I don't know how many times I've used it but I'm still using the original diamond plates. It puts an edge on a dull blade fast, easy and quicker than a wet stone, mine still has life in it but I will be needing to find replacement plates eventually. Well worth owning one.
I’ve had the blue one for about a year and use it often. Santa 🎅🏻 brought my two young Boy Scout, fishing, hunters one each for Xmas. Great all purpose tool. If I could change anything it would be an adjustable angle guide.
Thanks for the demonstration. I looked at a bunch of options for sharpeners and nothing seemed to have the versatility, ease of use, or portability of this product. I bought one about a year ago and have been using it regularly ever since. I don't get outdoors very often but it's just as useful around the house. I have even sharpened larger kitchen knives. I'm really glad that I decided to try it.
Really good field sharpener. Just got mine and have been sharpening cheap knives around the house. If you’ve ever used stones for sharpening there’s not any learning curve for it. Well thought out and a great little tool.
Purchased this off my Matco tools distributor, cause I want to try a new way of sharpening my knives on the go. Now gonna sharpen my homemade 6inch long karambit knife.

Excellent video. There are so many good features on this sharpener. But I like both ceramic rods on the Field Sharpener, and especially so for the smaller ceramic rod because without it I could never get my smaller serrations sharp again. Thanks for sharing.
I”ve gotten 2, not 1 after experimenting and experiencing the good wonders what these little sharpeners can do to your blades edges…simply awesome and effective. Finally gotten 2 last week; one tucked n my bugout bag, the other in my constant reach to sharpen my edges…awesome awesome product with great reviews…..a must have for all knives enthusiasts 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼😎
I've had my ken onion for many yrs and absolutely love it but needed something to carry with me and this works great. I'm just touching up the edges and hadn't sharpened a dull knife yet as I keep em all razor sharp with the K.O but I'm extremely pleased with this tool..
Got mine today in the mail after doing this stuff with whetstones for 20 years. I'm never going back to whetstones!😮 This works so much faster!! The small size takes some getting used to but I'm already changing my technique. And my first knife edge with this thing is so extremely sharp when you cut a piece of paper the little weight the blade has is enough to make it cut the paper all the way through! But I also didn't use the guide because I like my edge to be a little thinner. But it takes just a few minutes with this thing. So using it is a blast. Now lets see how long the different components are gonna last. Because I know there are a number of ways to get the diamond stuff on and the best way is if it's plated on.
My field sharpener lives on my kitchen counter for quick edc blade touch ups and comes with me on any vacation or outing. It is my favorite "do all" sharpener, though I own and love a few Work Sharp products and look forward to grabbing the precision adjust sharpener soon!
Thanks for this video, the instructions did come rolled up inside, I found them once I figured how to access the inside! The instructions were roiled up so tighly and help together so that trying to unroll then they tore so bad they were useless.
Love this Tool! Ive had it for a week and it has sharpened knives that you could ride on cross country and not cut your butt to arm hair shaving sharp in minutes.
Outstanding review. I have been looking at one of these as a sort of take-it-anywhere backup sharpening system. After listening to you, I'm inclined to sell off the twenty sharpening machines, kits and systems I now own and make this my only one😂. Thanks for the great video.
I got one and the strop compound was completely dried out and just flaked all over the place. I thought it was strange that my knife edges were green after each use. I read that I could put some oil on it or something like that but I don't have that and I wasn't aware I needed extra things to use it. I finally took it back, it's just too messy. Maybe I will try another store.
I absolutely love mine when I'm traveling its always with me one slight design change I'd like to see is a way to sharpen small serrations (triangular ceramic rod) not that I do that often but still if it could do that I would really be complete sharpening system in a tiny package. The craziest thing I've sharpen on it was probably my 14-inch bolo machete, granted it wasn't the best tool for the job but it worked
I sharpend flea market stainless steel blade. Esee 1095. Vg 10 Spyderco. Case Chrome Van diem Benchmade S30v All will shave hair off my arm. So this does really work. If you are out in the field and you need to fix a knife to cut again this will do the trick. It'll set a new edge on a knife and sharpen it start to finish. Because of its design it will help someone new to sharpening knives. Just follow the instructions.
I just picked one up, I really like the feel and the variability My issue is I have free hand sharpened with small 4-6” hand held stones/diamond plates my entire life and my natural angle is somewhere between 15-17degree so the 20 degree guide kinda throws me off and it doesn’t get my full bevel Overall happy with the sharpener 😊
Hey Josh that's a great tool for out the field I'm so happy there's a company that's developing it I have their workshop indoor sharpener but that's great to carry cuz you can sharpen your knife up really quick out in the field which I think is cool while I'm walking my dog and let my dog in the park I could sit down outside and sharpen my knives real nice thank you for sharing
I hereby proclaim the worksharp knife sharpener to be the best field knife sharpener on the market. You cannot find a better one. I will not tolerate any disagreements. This proclamation will be in effect for 50 years.
Josh thank you for sharing this video it's very essential to have a sharpener you can carry with you while you're camping and during outdoors I think this is a great product you have very essential it's a must have item for your knives thank you for sharing this great video You're super awesome 😎👍🤠🖐️👌✅
Never sharpened a thing, started using this for my dull knifes, got them a little bit sharper but not great. Maybe get them sharp one day with a little bit of practice...
Extra Virgin Olive oil and a paper towel work well for cleaning the Leather Strop very nicely and keeps the Leather in excellent condition. Thanks for teaching me how to get the ceramic rod out, never knew that now my cleaning of the Rod is impeccable. As for Olive Oil, a nice couple of dabs on a paper towel and wipe back and forth on the leather and your old compound comes right off, you may have to repeat and of course, change paper towels, once you get the amount off your happy with, use dry paper towels to get excess oil off. Now your leather is cleaned and conditioned ready for a new compound to be put on. I find less compound spread evenly works better for me.
I just purchased one at Walmart Today and the long white rod was broken about 3/4 of the way of the length so I used Clear Gorilla Glue and I repaired it.Most of my knives are already very sharp so I will see how well it works when I dull one down.
If the glue works for you good, but just know all our products are backed by a 3 year warranty. Send an email to info@worksharptools.com and our customer service team would be happy to get you a replacement.
I own this sharpener (actually have the Benchmade branded version but they are the same) and I’m watching this video learning how to use it. So I should just resharpen all my knives to a 20 degree angle? Not all knives are at 20 deg. If the blade I’m sharpening isn’t 20 deg I guess I can adjust the angle to whatever I want based on the actual angle?
20 is a good angle for most knives but you can certainly adjust if needed. The guides are there to help you build muscle memory not to make you sharpen a the one angle for all your knives.
Make the strop removable soit doesn't getloadedwith grit from the diamon blade, and make to use the ceramic blabe as well. Also make it so the guide angles can be swapped with the 15 and 17 degree sets.

If you are out in the field and you need to fix a knife to cut again this will do the trick. It'll set a new edge on a knife and sharpen it start to finish. Because of its design it will help someone new to sharpening knives. Just follow the instructions.
I just picked one up, I really like the feel and the variability
My issue is I have free hand sharpened with small 4-6” hand held stones/diamond plates my entire life and my natural angle is somewhere between 15-17degree so the 20 degree guide kinda throws me off and it doesn’t get my full bevel
Overall happy with the sharpener 😊
Hey Josh that's a great tool for out the field I'm so happy there's a company that's developing it I have their workshop indoor sharpener but that's great to carry cuz you can sharpen your knife up really quick out in the field which I think is cool while I'm walking my dog and let my dog in the park I could sit down outside and sharpen my knives real nice thank you for sharing
You talked about restoring compound to the leather. Do you have a recommendation? I don't see that you sell that.
Always in my backpack!!!
😉
Very nice sharpener at home in your kitchen or during a journey I love it
Luv this thing its in my everyday pack
You rock! Thanks for the highly informative but quick tutorial with a couple of tips and tricks in there. I’m using mine today!
Great explanation of that sharpener!
Well designed and thought off tool 👍
Very versatile tool. Thanks, Josh.
My thing with it is very easy use to sharpen all my knives I love it
I hereby proclaim the worksharp knife sharpener to be the best field knife sharpener on the market. You cannot find a better one. I will not tolerate any disagreements. This proclamation will be in effect for 50 years.
I just got mine and I gotta say at the very least having a portable strop is worth every penny.
Just got mine today and it gives me the fizz
These are sweet sharpeners. I can’t get my Microtech to keep an edge however. Maybe my technique is inconsistent. These videos help.
Where did you get that hatchet from? I love the profile, also I love this sharpening tool well worth the money!
@@WorkSharpOutdoor The glue Failed a couple of days ago but everything else is working great.I will check on the warranty.👍🇺🇸
Thank you..Josh Nicely presented
thanks looking forward to using the work sharp
Appreciate you and thanks for the tutorial.
Great stuff. Just t tried it out !👍👍👍👍👍
Make the strop removable soit doesn't getloadedwith grit from the diamon blade, and make to use the ceramic blabe as well. Also make it so the guide angles can be swapped with the 15 and 17 degree sets.
