    OUTSTANDING! 👍😎👍 One more thing I did - with the ceramic rod removed, take a razor knife & trim the black plastic until it’s flush with the edge of the stones (do the coarse & diamond sides) - also allows you to get the knife blades right up against the ricasso on the stones. You can’t do it on the opposite side because the strop is there. But, one side is good enough!

    Wow, that’s a great mod! Did that right now as you explained, and it works perfectly. Not only can i now remove the ceramic rod to use it and to clean it, but i can use the diamond plates in the sharpener for multitools which otherwise catch on the rod side. I like laying the sharpener on a table and work ambidextrous with both hands on the knife (as with a full size stone) which works well if the table and yellow grippy part of the sharpener are dust-free.

    I carry just the 2 diamond plates in with a double stuff and it works great. I had a thought last night and confirmed it works today. If stick 2 thin hard drive magnets from a 2.5 laptop drive in-between the coarse and fine plates they stick together so well I pinched my finger when I did it:) That makes them a really nice, small double sided diamond stone. You could probably use any thin magnets but I have an abundance of old HDD's to take from.

    Fantastic mod!
    I thought about doing similar except I was going to glue neodymium magnets on the end of the rod, with corresponding magnet inside the body.
    But this is simpler. And just as effective.

    Great idea. My ceramic rod is very loose and spin while sharpening. Must give it it a go with rubber band! Thanks

    I’m gonna give this a go. I took the pin out long ago because I liked removing the rod to use it the way you’ve been doing it but the O-ring is a good idea so I’ll try that.

      @@stroppystuff641 it works really good. And honestly only took a few minutes to whittle away with a knife I had lying around. I keyed it to come out between the C and F. Feel free to make an update video on it if it interests you.

    How do you clean the strop ?

    • @stroppystuff641
      @stroppystuff641  Год назад +1

      Eraser is great to clean a strop, just a standard pencil eraser.

    How many sharpenings would you estimate you can get out of these plates (with a 'mid range hardness' steel like S35VN) before they wear out? I'm referring to normal sharpening from dull to sharp, not reprofiling the angle.

  • @quickdrawz05
    @quickdrawz05 11 месяцев назад

    Wait you tried the DMT plates on it? They’re 7/8ths of an inch wide eight? Is that too thin?

    What grit is that ceramic rod?

    • @Shinjite1754
      @Shinjite1754 Месяц назад

      Approx 1k-2k for the rough side and approx 3-4k for smooth

    Less than £30 where can you find it for that?

    • @stroppystuff641
      @stroppystuff641  11 месяцев назад +2

      Cyclaire knives and tools used to be sub £30, now it's 33. Knives and tools is £27 but you have shipping. Prices change over time unfortunately but it's still cheap.
