Thank you for posting this video, I just bought a 2001 altima and the radio isn't working. This is the only video I could find on how to remove the trim pieces
I took everything out, but I couldn't get my stereo out. Can you make a video on how to replace the radio in a Nissan Altima with an aftermarket radio? Thanks... :)
Awesome video!! Exactly what I needed. Thanks! I just bought a 98 Altima for $1100 with 132k miles on so Its a few small things I need to fix. If you know of any cheap places I can go to upgrade my car please let me know.
Guys, I got '98 model and it didnt come off like his. Mine had the lower piece attatched to it because you unscrew it once you take it off. So it might be harder to take out with the lower piece still attached to it but you take it off like that anyways just be very carefull and give it a good hard tug.
On my 97 Altima GXE the gear shift will not come out of park unless the ignition is turned to at least the "accessory" position. I'm wanting to find a way to leave gear shift lever in low, then turn off key completely to "lock" position and take key out - but my car will not allow key to turn all the way there, if gear lever is not in park, and it will also not allow the key to come out. After leaving in low position I will want to disconnect battery neg. terminal before removing factory radio. But it doesn't seem like a good idea to be messing with battery with the car in this kind of limbo. Anyone know how to handle this for an aftermarket radio install with this car?
Hi Andrew, I know this digs a very old video but could you please show how to take the radio out? After you remove all front trims. Is it just pull out the radio head unit? or is it another trick to open the bracket box? Thanks man.
Whats good fam. Me again with another question. The red light at the bottom of your shift. Do you know how to change it? So far I see the video shows me alot but not to get to the bottom part.
Hey man I installed my headunit and all was working well however, there is a finger sized gap in between the bottom of my dash kit to right above the cigeratte lighter. Any suggestions? Or do you remember what dash kit you used?
@duke53y no I don't because that's not the body style I had. I imagine it would be the same process tho. Take off the door panel which should be one big piece and you will have access to the speaker
Hey Nissanguru, I have the 2001 Nissan Altima SE. I had a couple of questions. 1) I did replace the radio on my own, the car 6-CD changer sucked replaced it with a pioneer. What dash conversion kit did you use??? Mines really crappy and doesn't have any storage space. 2) I tried installing new front speakers, The holes on the new speaker do not align with my old speakers even though they are both 6 1/2 inches. Any idea if you had the same problem and how you dealt with it?
I know this is a old video but just brought one of these for my daily how do you change the a/c control lights...and does anyone have anymore cool mods to throw out there just @ me
@wacoodude The dash conversion kit was by scoche or something like that. I don't believe 6.5 is the right size for the front. The ones I put in my front door were 5.5
+Megs I know it's been over a year but the steps in this video are all you need to know. Once you remove the stock double-DIN, you'll need to get a wiring harness and single-DIN mounting bracket both available from Metra. Instructions are fairly basic.
maggotcorps Thanks man I appreciate it! Some of those screws can be annoying lol Try using an anti-seize spray on it and see if it will break loose. Be careful to avoid spraying it on any of the electrical components though!
So I was trying to instal my stereo and I got all the screws out except for the one on the drivers side near the bottom. It will not come out, I've tried WD40, going to an auto parts store, screw extractor, vise grips for the head, everything and it still will not come out. What can I do to get this out because it's the only thing holding the trim piece in place and I'm so sick of trying and getting nowhere
You shouldn't need to remove any screws on the actual HVAC unit just the four screws holding in your stereo now and the old one should come right out. If not then you can try removing the screws to the HVAC unit but like I said I don't believe it will be necessary.
@zabdi786 There should be screws holding your radio in. If u take those out with a hard yank it should come out. I got a new car so I can't take another vid sorry
If you're going to work on electronics, shouldn't you disconnect your battery? Also, that's not the air conditioning unit. that's the air conditioning CONTROL unit.

@Kyle Huff yea I had to get the additional mounting kit to replace the factory radio. I got it at Best Buy
Wish you explained how you installed the after market unit. That would’ve been more helpful.

I wish you had gone as far as taking the stereo out. Do you need to remove the AC/Heat controls to swap the stereo??
What is that thing just above the ash tray behind instrument cluster/radio ac trim panel? Looks like a metal square piece
question: i just got a kenwood kdc 152 for this car that im installing in the morning. Do I remove the screws by the AC to get the radio out?

Thanks a fucking million bro honestly Good job bro this help me out a lot bro 💯
Where did you put your ground for the aftermarket stereo?
Liz Hendry I actually didn't have to ground mine. It must have been built in to the harness or didn't need to be grounded.
@zabdi786 There should be screws holding your radio in. If u take those out with a hard yank it should come out. I got a new car so I can't take another vid sorry
My ashtray keeps getting stuck and prevents me from pulling out the trim fully. :(
