    Rick: I just made this repair today with the help of your video and it worked like a charm! Thanks! I have never soldered before, and I was able to accomplish this project. Some helpful tips: You need quite a few screwdrivers and tips. Don't start this project if you only have a philips and a flat head. Also, I put my screws in sandwich baggies to prevent mixing them up/losing them. There were quite a few screws. I am so excited to have my stereo back. Thanks again, Rick!

    Just followed tutorial and it worked like a charm, TY! The part seems out of circulation/discontinued in most places online, but I found one on EBay and won the bid for $29 after shipping cost. Ran into "No Aux Input" problem, but I fixed it by redoing the soldering to make sure it was laid down right and, in my particular case also, that the soldering wasn't touching/connecting nearby joints. TY Rick, if ever you need a "like" or shout out or anything else I can help, please let me know!

      Erick Suarez you are very welcome! when I first posted the tutorial I thought it would be a very specific problem no one else would have but clearly this is a very common problem. I'm really glad I could help!

    I just changed out this audio jack on a 2010 Nissan Rogue and the video was a great help. The only difference was where to put the credit card. De-soldering was defiantly the hardest part. It took me about 1 hour, but since I had watched the video I had already collected all the tools, including the soldering iron and solder wick.

    Hi Rick: Excellent video! Last night my son and I replaced the K2HC107A0005 on his 2007. The video was a great help to find the part ($2.65) and take the guess work out the proper sequence of removing and replacing the Bose unit. The de-soldering process was the most cumbersome until we figured out the rhythm. Used units were available for about $100 but most had some type of issue and his unit was perfect except for the jack that had broken off inside. It took us two hours but de-soldering was 45 minutes. Thank you.

      +Bobby G I'm so glad this video helped! It's frustrating how many people are affected by this. It would be nice if there was a sturdier component to replace the bad one.

    Just completed the AUX jack swap (Part # K2HC107A0005) in a 2011 Altima...works perfectly now!!!! GREAT VIDEO!!! The jack cost me about $3.10 and then about $6.50 shipping. I fixed my head unit AUX port for under $10.00!!! De-soldering does take some time but I did it in about 15 minutes. I found it helps to widen the de-soldering wick and hold the tip of the solder pen on the wick until you see the solder being absorbed by the wick. Thanks again for the video!!! You literally just saved me a couple hundred dollars!!

    I cannot thank you enough for posting this video and for linking the website to purchase the part. I looked everywhere online and I couldn't find it. My AUX input just broke the other day and making my commute without music was driving me crazy. You were a great help. Thanks again. :)

    Thank you so much for your immensely helpful video! We just bought this '08 Nissan Altima used, and we found out that the aux jack didn't work. Your video likely saved my life (just kidding), since my wife would have killed me if I put a new stereo in the nused car. Unfortunately, the link to your blog no longer works. The part from Pacparts cost me $14 with shipping, which is much better than the $200+ for a new stereo. I used to do quite a bit of soldering, so I had all the tools needed to do the repair. One thing I found is that the dash material around the vents is very thin, and peels off with even the slightest abrasion. Thanks again for an excellent tutorial!

    Hey Rick thanks, I ve finished this little project just now. The sound is great. One recommendation to everyone who wants to try this though, after you unplug the battery do not lock all your doors, because it is not opening with the mechanical key, the battery needs to be connected to unlock the doors.

    Thank so much for making this video!!! I followed all your instructions and walla beautiful music emanates from the speakers. You made it so easy because you explained everything so well. Just to let you they changed the lower panel. It's now one piece and the temp controls are there too. It's even easier now because less undoing connecters. So if your port is broken listen to this guy and change it out; it only cost me $7.00 and 2 hours of time. THANK YOU!!!

    I'm glad this was able to help you! It's such a simple problem and it's frustrating because the dealer can probably fix it with an hour's worth of labor since they have all of the tools on hand already. I hope you can get your stereo fixed.

    Great Video. Did the job in 60 minutes. If you don't have the solder strip you can just use some old speaker wire. You just have to put some flux on the wire. I also found a couple of black screws on the faceplate that I had to remove just prior to taking it off that weren't in the video. Otherwise - Really nice video. Thanks for the links re the part order. Took about 5 days to arrive.

    Just a quick note on those who are getting a "NO AUX" input...my first guess is that there is not a connection on one or more of your solder points...you may need to go back and touch them up...ALSO make certain the solder points are all COMPLETELY separated from each other... make sure your AUX cable is functional as well and doesn't have any shorts. Good luck!! Those are my best guesses.

    Rick, Thanks for the video. I ordered the part and made the repair. Small error when putting the radio back together, there is a metal clip that goes around the CD slot, I installed it upside down after the repair, if you do that the metal prongs touch the LCD leads and the display goes bonkers. I took the face off again and flipped the metal ring and all was well. Thanks again.

    Great video, I actually went ahead and completed the exact same job. My only question is how sure are we that the replacement part is mono or stereo? It seems that the part I ordered from the link on your website is mono. Did you notice the same thing?

    • @RickOsgood
      @RickOsgood  10 лет назад

      The part I ordered from Pacparts was definitely stereo as I have installed it in my own car. If you can look inside the jack with a flashlight, see if you can see how many contact points there are. The outer ring should be the ground. Then there should be two more points inside that will touch the two points on your AUX cable. One is for left and one for right. If you haven't installed it yet, plug the AUX cable into the jack and use a continuity tester to check it out. Hook up one end to the AUX cable's right channel and then test each pin until you find one that works. Then do the same for the left channel.

    • @arbaiza05
      @arbaiza05 10 лет назад

      Rick Osgood I looked inside the jack with a flashlight and it is definitely stereo, I also checked it for continuity and it checked out fine. I realized what the culprit was, it seems that there are two styles of 3.5mm cable, one that will go into the jack all the way and another that won't. Luckily I had both styles laying around and tried them both. The one that worked was the one that went all the way in the jack. Thanks again for all the info.

    Hi Rick! OK well I broke a piece of my aux cable and now its stuck in the aux input. All I'm trying to do is do exactly what you did here except when I remove the aux input I was thinking if o could just push the piece that got stuck there out. Then I was thinking of putting the same aux input back in place. Do you think this would work? If so please explain what I word have to do after removing the piece. Thank you! Greta video!

    • @RickOsgood
      @RickOsgood  9 лет назад

      That will probably work as long as you haven't broken the actual jack itself. You would basically have to follow the video up to the 5:01 mark. Once you get the jack pulled apart, you can use something to poke out the broken piece. Then put the jack back together, solder it back on, and put the stereo back together. You just need to be careful you don't break or melt the jack or else you might have to replace it.

    Thanks Rick for such an accessible resource. Great work!! I am going to attempt this on my 2007 Nissan Altima (Hybrid, no Navi) which looks just like yours.
    One question I did have in looking at your soldering is "How important is it when you solder the 7 points on the circuit board, that none of the solder "puddles touch one another?" - I have soldered on a circuit board before, but not with points that close. May sound like a obvious question, but shame on me if I don't ask it, and if you do touch puddles, can you just scratch away the excess of the circuit board until you see green? Thanks for any help, and when I try this, will endure I update the post, and take pictures of the back of the radio and post them in case you or anyone else is interested... Will

    • @RickOsgood
      @RickOsgood  10 лет назад

      Hi Will. Thanks for the compliments. If multiple solder points go to the same place, then those points can generally touch each other with no ill effect. I didn't pay close attention when I did this so I can't say for sure if there are any solder points that are like this. It's best to be safe and just make sure they don't touch. However if you do mess up and get two points touching, it should be pretty easy to fix. If they are touching just a little bit, you can usually take a razor blade and scratch a line in between them to separate them, just be sure you don't cut any copper traces that may be underneath. You can test if your cut worked using a continuity tester on a multimeter. The other thing you can do if you mess up is use the desoldering braid to remove excess solder from the middle until the points are no longer touching. I hope this helps.

      Some of the connection points might only be for mounting. Some of them are for the audio signal. The audio signal connections are the important ones. I can't remember which are which now. I would just buy more solder and make sure all of the connections are soldered up well. Also make sure none of them are bridging and connecting to each other as that may lead to a short and cause other problems.

    Hello Rick,
    I just saw your tutorial. My aux input is broken and I need to replace it. where can I find the parts? The link you gave doesn't work anymore.

    • @RickOsgood

      It just have broken after I upgraded my Wordpress theme. Thanks for letting me know. I bought my aux jack here: www.pacparts.com/part.cfm?sku=330N9KF874D7772
      If you Google the part number though you might be able to find the same part for as low as $3-$4. This store used to sell it for less than $4 but the price went up for some reason.

      If you have the same stereo then you should be able to replace the jack like this. Although it might be easier if you could find a way to extract the broken jack. Maybe using tweezers or needle nose pliers.

      If you do a Google search for the part number K2HC107A0005 you can find several places that sell it. I ordered mine from here and it worked fine:
      www.pacparts.com/part.cfm?sku=330N9KF874D7772
      However the price has gone up from $3 to $10 so you might want to try another store. I found these via Google but I have not tried them myself. The part number is the same though.

    My AUX plug works but whatever cable I try to plug in, it is always loose, its never snug so it loses connection often since it doesnt stay in place.
    Do i need a new AUX jack?

    • @RickOsgood
      @RickOsgood  10 лет назад

      It sounds like maybe the metal contacts inside of the jack have bent out of shape and are now loose. If that's the case, a new jack would probably fix this problem.

    Is there any way to test whether the aux port is working before re installing the stereo? I ask because I replaced the port and it still doesn't work. I'm hoping I just did a poor soldering job and I can just redo it. Hoping I did not damage the circuit board in the process

    • @RickOsgood
      @RickOsgood  10 лет назад

      Are you getting no sound at all? Or is it coming out only one speaker or something? The only test you can really do is to use a continuity tester on the board. Plug in the audio cable and press one of your probes onto the ground part of the exposed aux plug. Then use the other tester to probe around the solder joints to make sure it goes to the right place and doesn't bridge anywhere else. Then do the same for the left and right channels of the aux cable. Unfortunately I can't tell you where they are supposed to connect too without having one in front of me. Another thing to check is that the left/right/ground signals are not connected to each other. You can test that without taking the stereo apart by using the continuity tester on the end of your audio cable and trying all of the possible combinations.

    • @2006breakmyballs
      @2006breakmyballs 10 лет назад

      Rick Osgood I was getting no sound at all. When I plugged in a music device (ipod, cell phone, etc) the stereo just said No Aux Input or something to that affect. So the stereo just isn't even recognizing the port

    • @RickOsgood
      @RickOsgood  10 лет назад

      2006breakmyballs Unless you shocked something with static electricity or burned one of the parts with your soldering iron I find it unlikely that you broke something when soldering. It's possible your solder joints are not good enough or they are bridged together in a way that is making it not work. Did you have any sound at all before you worked on it? Did you completely replace the jack?

    • @2006breakmyballs
      @2006breakmyballs 10 лет назад

      Rick Osgood my old port was completely destroyed so I got a new one. I just tried re soldering all the connections and the stereo does play sound now but the quality is horrible. The vocals almost sound like someone gargling water.

    • @RickOsgood
      @RickOsgood  10 лет назад

      2006breakmyballs That's kind of how mine sounded before I fixed it. Sound would come out only one speaker unless the plug was wiggled just the right way, and sometimes the vocals would sound quieter. The culprit for me was a bad connection inside of the audio jack. There are some flat contacts that were bent and causing the problem. If you bought a brand new jack you shouldn't have that problem though. It's possible one of your connections is still loose and causing the issue. If you play music and wiggle the cable around in different ways, does the sound quality change? Have you tried playing music from another device just in case it's your device that sounds bad?

    I have a Nissan Altima 2007, if I buy the part K2HC107A0005, will it fit in my car?

    • @RickOsgood
      @RickOsgood  10 лет назад +1

      I'm sorry I don't know if it will fit or not. I'm not an expert with car stereos. If yours looks identical to mine then I would think there's a good chance it should work but I can't say for sure. Good luck!

    I have a 2010 Nissan Altima Coupe.. and I have the same problem... the music system looks similar... is the process the same??

  • @RickOsgood
    @RickOsgood  11 лет назад

    Unfortunately I'm not an expert at this and I haven't seen a 2010 stereo in person before. If your stereo looks exactly like the one in the video then possibly. Make sure your AUX input jack is in the exact same location too. I think there is a newer model of this stereo that looks very similar but it has the jack in a different location. That input jack is actually a different part and would have a different procedure.

    • @RickOsgood
      @RickOsgood  10 лет назад

      The only part I needed was the audio jack, which you can find by Googling "K2HC107A0005". As for tools, you'll need:
      Soldering iron
      Desoldering braid
      Solder
      Torx screw driver
      Phillips screw driver
      A thin but stiff plastic piece (Credit card) to pry open your stereo

    • @RickOsgood
      @RickOsgood  10 лет назад

      Sorry I don't really know. If your stereo looks just like mine and has the aux jack in the same place, then I would guess it's the same. If anything looks different then you might just have to open it up and find out. Sorry I can't be of more help.
