When Avios released the Albatross HU-16 back in early 2019 it was extremely well received around the globe. This was due to being something just that little bit different in a PNF format, had excellent flying qualities, looked great, and was fun to fly off of land, and particularly water where it was in its element.

The best though can always be made even better, so Avios has now introduced the Albatross HU-16 V2, this comes in a striking US Coast Guard color scheme with factory-applied decals. Other improvements include clear cockpit windows for an improved scale appearance, better slow flight performance due to less paint which saves weight (the white in the color scheme is the natural color of the EPO foam), and perfectly color-matched plastic parts for a better appearance and finish. Also, the lengths of the servo leads and electronic wiring have been reduced to further save weight, improve access, and make for a neater installation. Last but not least is a clear plastic water rudder, this is more discreet but is still fully functional.
The Avios Albatross HU-16 is a beautiful twin-engine flying boat with a large monohull, and wing floats, the entire underneath of the front portion of the hull is reinforced with plastic. This allows it to happily take the knocks and bangs of using a grass airfield to fly from, but as mentioned before, it really does come into its own when operating from your favorite lake or waterway. Taxi-ing, and lining up for take-off are made all that much easier with the water rudder and the supplied Aerostar forward/reverse water-resistant ESC's. Built-in flaps provide plenty of lift and make the landings and take-offs that much easier and extremely scale-like.
The Plug-N-Fly Albatross is powered by twin pre-installed Aerostar 3536-850KV brushless outrunner motors driving scale 3-blade 10x6 propellers. The 2 Aerostar 30A reversing ESC's are also pre-installed along with the 7 splash-proof 9g servos. The Albatross was designed around a 3000~4000mAh 4S battery, but for scale flying it is equally at home on a 4000~5000mAh 3S battery. With the 3S 5000mAh set-up, flights of around 15 mins are possible with mixed throttle use. EPO foam is still used for all the major components, this gives strength, durability, and the surface finish is excellent. Also included are navigation lights, molded cowlings, and a comprehensive hardware pack which includes pushrods, and screws, etc.
The Albatross in its US Coast Guard color scheme provides a great presence in the air, looks outstanding, and scale low passes over water are an absolute dream, even more so now thanks to the weight saving. If you have never flown a model off of water before, and have never experienced the pure joy and fun of doing so, then the Albatross is the perfect model to get your water wings with! So, get out on the water and go soaring across the sky with the Avios Albatross HU-16 V2.

great role play stu, being rescued by the coast guard like that!....
I'm glad to see you included the swimming aspect of float flying, I've had to do a little swimming myself, but not necessarily for that reason. Anyway it was fun to see you included that. 😊
Holy crap thats the funniest thing I've seen this week!! That's dedication Stu! Lol. Steady, smooth flying Stuart! Nice plane!
Glad you enjoyed it
You're right. I want this airplane in both scales. The one you have here, and full scale.
Please don't ever discontinue this one! I own a V1 and damn it's a crowd favourite
Nice imitation of a USCG Rescue Swimmer! I crewed on the 7226 at Air Stations San Francisco and Sacramento. The "Goats" were fun to fly.
Oh wow!
Crewed out of Elizabeth City and Otis AFB in the early 70’s mapping the Gulf Stream.
Semper Paratus, Glenn! I was an AM.
@@olphartcoastie8719 MST here. Started out as a sonarman and lateraled.
Well done Stuart, Wim Hof would be proud of you! That low level shot at 0.26 was very nice.
Beautiful flying Stuart. She's a gorgeous bird that swim looked really refreshing. I can just imagine how cold that water was. 👍👍😎✌👊
Yes it was
Great video! Love that you leave in the improvisational scenes. Have one ordered.
Glad you like it!
Great review Stuart!
Hey Stu, thanks for keeping it real. I had a good solid laugh and then enjoyed your review. Nice plane.
Thanks 👍
Outstanding flight review, lovely plane
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome! Loved my V1!
Good choice!
Great flight Stuart, she certainly looks fun in the water. Did well on the grass as well 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Just ordered!!!!
Looks pretty nice ;) Good swimming!!!
It was!
beautiful plane!!! great vid...pure RC!!!!
Thanks 👍
Great review, Stuart!
Thanks for watching
Hell yea new present for Christmas
Happy holidays!
Love your reviews Stuart:) Nice flying plane and tad challenging for a new commer😉
Thanks 👍
Love this plane, looks so good
I agree!
Absolutely beautiful Stuart!!! Love my V1 and think this scheme is amazing, may have to do a repaint, thanks for sharing 👊🏼👊🏼
Go for it!
Hang in there Jeff. I like the v 1 scheme. You'll get one of the v2. I think it's just a matter of time
Great looking, and flying, plane. Make V3 with retractable landing gear. For the water rudder, use a spring loaded, steerable nose gear but have it retract when the landing gear goes down. When the landing gear goes up, the water rudder would extend from the tail. I hope this gives you an idea for the next version
Thanks for the tips!
Like the past Flyzone Select Scale Seawind...
Bummer. I have V1, really want this one now! USCG!
Lindo lugar...Beleza de Aeromodelo. Muito versátil.👍
Thanks Stuart!
Very nice! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Real nice indeed my friend 😎
Thanks!
Hi Stu, didn't realise you were back. It must be years since you left. Good work.👍
Hey, thanks
Bravo.
Great review! After you`ve jumped to the water, I`ve pushed buy button on hobbyking :)
Good choice!
Great 👍 job
Thank you! Cheers!
Great flight review Stuart. I think it'll take a long time for you to forget to plug the battery in again!!:). Nice to see this model again HobbyKing. Well done AVIOS. AirHammer out!!
Thanks 👍
awesome gear and stuff, but who decided to record with a giant bush between the host and the camera lol?
I need one!
Nice dive 🙂 🙂
Thanks 😁
Sobald es eine Version mit einziehbarem Fahrwerk gibt, werde ich es auch kaufen❗ 😍🤩😍
.....rule 1, turn it on! BRILLIANT :-) Thank you
Glad it helped!
i have orderd just one.........nice video.......
Good choice!
Will the V3 come with retractable landing gear?
That would really be something!!!
Be nice to paint one up as Hemisphere Dancer, Jimmy Buffets old plane.
DO IT!
While one the subject of discontinued avios models, PLEASE, PLEASE do a V2 Zazzy!
I think boats that fly are great in general. I like this new one very much. The only thing missing is a suitable lake in the area, because the waters here are all privately owned or too far away.
You don't need a lake to fly this plane. My V1 has only ever been flown off ice/snow or grass. It's one of my main "winter planes".
@@Xviperprime the thick foam this has I bet keeps things inside warm in winter. :) :)
Thanks for the tip - taking off and landing on snow is always fun with the right equipment.
Thanks for the tip - luckily I have a power connection and heating on the club's premises.
However, it should be plus 4 degrees Celsius, below that it's too cold for me anyway.
I saw you remove a camera, but the video didn't have any onboard footage .. was there a problem?
We used to being a fishing rod with a piece of lead
Throw it OVER the plane and reel in 😁🏴☠️
Why didn't HK/Avios incorporate retractable landing gear like the Tower Hobbies/Horizon Hobby Seawind to fly off of a standard concrete runway? I know, to keep cost down, BUT there could be a version V2.5 or V3 that can be purchased WITH that option at a HIGHER cost if buyers would like to have the feature like I do. It has been done by a couple of gents on RUclips but it is something I and other people do not want to do ourselves - we would rather PAY a manufacture to do it. BTW, I have the V1 of this plane. PLEASE consider this suggestion HK/Avios 😊
Thanks for the tip!
i have the v1 of the avios albatross and it fly's great
Love the bird! Because of this video I purchased this plane!
Random question..can you share the artist whose music you’re playing in the background? Diggin the tunes, the bird, the whole vibe!
Lastly…is avios wiling to consider quieter motors, less whiney, more refined sounding motors like the eflite stock setups.
Hi,
What Camera you are using on top in between of the Motors ?
Pretty nice Model and flight Demonstration!
Hi, I wonder what happens if you mix the engines with the rudder and then use the reverse. Anyone answer that?
Does anyone know what the battery connector is on this plane? Looks like xt60 or xt90
Must have this one
Float flying is really fun and this one looks great in the air. But a must is to have a boat at hand to retrieve the plane should something go wrong. And do enough float flying things do go wrong.
Is the rudder solid enough for snow? And possible to turn in the snow?
Very nice plane. What was the brand and model number of the onboard video camera? I'd like to get one. Thank you.
Can you make a fpv pod for it that is waterproof
Do you know when the motors will be available ?
Any ETA on when it will be back in stock in the US?
Are you guys going to get Avios Spitfires in anytime soon?
Please help !
Beautiful model has arrived.
Taranis X9D tx ... x8r ..rx I have.
I can not set it,
engine differential throtle
/ forward -back reason /
Please picture, tx mixer and custom functions
Please contact us at support.hobbyking.com/hc/en-us/requests/new so we can help. Thanks!
Does it need two batteries, one for each motor to fly?
What lake you guys flying off?
Nice plane, TIP: never cut the power before the plane is stabel on ground or water ;)
Thanks for the tip!
@@HobbyKingOfficial Where is your address?
I agree otherwise is a normal landing very difficult
Will a 50C 4s lipo work with this model? Also is the connector for the battery an xt60? Thanks
yes ans yes
Thank you. What camera are you using on top of the wing, and where can I get one? Thanks
What ever you do, do not let one of the wing floats hit the water ay high speed. We call it a
"Water Loop". Will tear it off and cause it to yaw and rip the fuselage in half. Have several flying Boats , R/C and a Full Size LAKE LA-4-200 Amphibian Seaplane. I know several pilots who have had this happen. Good Bye $100,000. Still though, Great flight. Arrgh! Capt. Morgan.
Just assembled mine today 01/15/2022 and setup electronics, totally awesome looking bird. My only issue is the right motor sounds like its going to disintegrate during or soon after my maiden, checked all fasteners and all are tight. The left motor is perfect, I must have got a manufacturing subpar right one. The right motor does give full power but sounds like a bunch of marbles in a tin can...
Sorry to hear about his please contact us here so we can help support.hobbyking.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Great looking bird shame no shipping to the UK wont be adding it to my hobby king fleet. Tundra, Grand Tundra, Walrus ,Avios 1400 spitfire, Asw28 glider
Working on getting that sorted
I had no idea they were still in business
Looks great. I have the V1 and love it. Unfortunately, there is no shipping option available to the UK now. I tried to order the King Twin from the EU warehouse and waited 2 months for them to sort out a shipping option but it never happened. Come on HK. Please sort this issue out for your loyal UK buyers.
Agree! Sort us out HK!
Sorry to hear that
Great plane and video , only wish it was a Catalina flying boat , maybe sometime ...........

@@HobbyKingOfficial Why link to a discontinued product?
The Esc are Not good in v2. Mine broke twice in flight
Twin elevator pushrods must be spaced apart at the servo connection....Friction is caused, servo mount gets strained and can fail servo...(Look at Spacewalker twin elevator servo connection, That is solution...also used 40Amp RVS ESC for cooler temps and better electrical load handling... jus' sayin' guys)😎👌
Is this ever going to be in EU warehouse?
Needing the pack further forward than in the V1 doesn't seem to make sense ... if the fus. & tail on the V2 are a bit lighter you would expect to need the pack further back??
It's a smaller pack.
@@RcAndries not by much. In fact it's because a more forward CG is specified now. For the V1 the range was given as 75-95mm from the wing LE (I have always flown mine at 80mm), and for the V2 it's 65-70mm. Hence needing the pack further forward (even though the airframe is lighter).
Let the v3 have working scale retracts please..
Recommend changing the props if you fly full throttle or aerobatic. They can break.
Where's my order ?
Sorry to hear. Please contact us here so we can help - support.hobbyking.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
How well does it handle salt water?
I thought Stu left?
Came back some time ago now.
@@HobbyKingOfficial thank God he did :-)
@@danyel9256 Yeah someones got to be willing to jump in and save the plane on the lake :D Stuart
@@HobbyKingOfficial lol and then the wind returned as soon as he got it
That's hilarious he forgot to turn on the model 🤣😂
Keeping it real
Although it looked refreshing- next time instead maybe try a tennis ball attached to the end of a fishing reel line minus the rod…throw just past and over stranded boat or plane….reel in says Captain Obvious lol.
Pity you can’t buy it if you live in the UK
Working on getting shipping enabled from EU warehouse to UK.
Bush Pilot lol
I like the plane, video, BUT not remembering to turn the plane on? 😳🤯 I haven't used a switch since i got back n2 Flying after a 20+ Year break. Connect the battery, ON!
The battery was not connected. No switch here.
Most crappie RC airplanes I had. No more Chinese crap for me
Nice, but $350 for a hunk of foam? Seems about 3X what it ought to be.
I agree I would be all in for $250 US$ or so, but then the electronics would be cheap junk requiring replacement. I would also like a kit with just the foam so we could pick and chose our own parts, but it would probably be close to their all up price by the time it was fitted. Hopefully they picked reasonable parts. I hate cutting glued in servos out so I can properly corrosion x them like should have been done in the first place.
Went to buy from Hobby King... $250 for shipping. Get bent.
