I really appreciate the fact that you get into the details of how the stitches work and are composed, as I am a pretty technical person. I'm also psyched to find another guy that does this! I just started a week ago.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together - it was a helpful breakdown of the anatomy of the stitch and how I can manipulate those color changes. Now to try and apply the theory!

Ok soooo I’m still very new to crochet this video is incredibly helpful at this point I’m a bit too far in to change how I’m currently doing my free hand pattern for the koi I’m making my niece. (Looks awesome so far!) but to say that the interior looks messy is an understatement. I have done other color changes for practice when I was first doing patch tests just one row since I figured it out so I didn’t have to clip anything but I didn’t want to do a pattern with a bunch of clipping and free hanging tails because I’m kinda lazy and don’t like to deal with the looser threads of a new color when I start. So I’ve been going around my koi fish with the mindset of not clipping anything as I go or incorporating the stitching as I went either since I have three colors red(base) white and black for the pattern spots. The interior currently looks like it has a BUNCH of tiny ladders. And since the first part had a point to the end I didn’t like I took one of the first patch starting free tails and pushed the magic circle inside to make a little gaping mouth and threaded the free tail through a bit so it wouldn’t move outside again then tied the free tail to another spots free tail so it’s secure. I only have 3 tail for the whole project so lots of tiny ladders on the inside and soon to be a spider looking mess as I went from one side to the other for some of the spots 🤣 this video is helpful for future reference to have a clean looking interior

The best way I saw for stiches not to slender to one side, was the technique that every second row, after slipstiching in the last stich of previous row, you make the first sc (or hdc, dc, ...) into the NEXT stitch, not the same and you do the last stitch of this row into the skipped first stitch 😊

I have a pattern calling for a single row in a different colour. Wouldn't the half colour change produce 2 rows, one for the top of the stitch and the second with the full row of single stitches? Please clarify.
