- Have you ever noticed that when you crochet Amigurumi, your stitches will slant to the right (or left if left handed)? In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a stitch that is “stacked” on top of each other in each row and will not slant in any direction. Also, I’ve included a NEW way to change color based off of this “stacked stitch” approach. Enjoy! If you’d like more tips on several different ways to change color, check out my tutorial here: • How to Change Color in...

You are brilliant! I have been trying to get this result for years and never found your method any where! Thank you sooo very much. And I will be doing the traditional crochet method with a smaller hook to avoid holes and pain. Will be binge watching all your videos!
This is wonderful. i’m so thrilled. Thank you Magdalena Mathilda.

Ty , great tips, can’t wait to try these stitches out
Best color change vid!
this works wonderful thank you
This really helps when you're making something with asymmetrical shaping! It stops the back of your work from drifting towards the front and vice versa.
Exactly! It’s a little extra work but in certain situations, it is totally worth it
Amazing, thank you!
Thank you so much, this’ll help so much! I like to make a lot of amigurumis and the stitches slanting makes my projects twisted! So this is going to help SO MUCH!
Amazing! Thank you! 😘
You’re welcome! Happy crocheting!
Wow. Just wow🤯🤯🤯
Thank you so much for this! I am a pattern writer and I have been struggling to perfect one of my patterns because of the slanting issue. I will DEFINITELY be trying this asap!
That’s awesome! If you’re going for a specific look, the slanting definitely messes things up lol 😂
@@magdalenamathilda5476 It absolutely does! I'm working in an oval instead of a circle to make an amigurumi body, and the slant is very obvious.
I have noticed tbis with the slant. Even in the crochet fair isle. I found a way. I just cant get my word to look right in a beanie. I can't wait to try this
Hi, thank you so much for this technique. I will try it! But do I need a shifting stitch for this?
What kind of yarn are you using in this video? It looks very interesting? The texture of it looks soft and smooth kinda like terry cloth almost. Also the yarn under stitch is called the X stitch it’s been around for a while.
Genius is correct!! Thanks so much!!!
Would this work with stripes?
Yes the front loop , i just can't get say the word Schadt for a beanie. It does nit look right. My color shows through. Can uou try to do a word and see if it works for you. Please help..
I love your video.would the yarn under work if you are crocheting graphgans with color changes?
Hi! I have never done a graphgan before (way too intimidating to me lol) but I’m guessing that it would most likely work very well in that situation. What I do know of graghgans, there is a LOT of dropping one yarn and continuing with another yarn to get the colors right and such. I would definitely give it a try! ❤️
This stitch was shown on crochet graphgan
Surely, it can't have evaded you that the patch in the other color is puckering. It doesn't look very good. Is that because of the "split single crochet" stitch on either side of the color change or because of the fact you pull the other yarn color in without first anchoring it one stitch before the color change?
I'm pretty sure it's the split stitch pulling it too tight. I've been experimenting with different variations of single crochet on the front loop only (yarn over, yarn under/yarn over, and yarn under/yarn under) and did not get that result because I'm not bothering trying to use split stitch because I already crochet pretty tight.
Hello...i am trying this but when I increase in FLO it leaves a hole. Any tips?
I would use both loops just for the increase.
I use my regular method of increasing, which is invisible increase (sc in front loop, sc in both loops). You could also try sc in front loop, sc in back loop, I played around with that and decided I didn't like it.
Wow!! But please, I’m a beginner… why crochet only on the front loop? Why not the traditional yarn over?
It's for keeping the stitches stacked rather than the natural slant that can occur when you do the traditional front and back loops
Will this also work the same way left handed?
Hi! I honestly cannot say because I’ve never tried left handed crocheting. I hope it does work though!
Mine a re still slanting 😢
Genius mam
This stitch that you think you created is called waistcoat stitch it is another variation of single crochet. Plenty of tutorials on it and patterns. But the combination of all the stitches and techniques does help create a better change of colors. Maybe I can play with these and other techniques of crochet to see if there is a better look. Thanks. With all due respect video is too long.
Um, kindly, it's not called the 'split single crochet'. It's called the waistcoat stitch and also called the center single crochet.
I think the yarn under slant is way more pronouncd than the traditional yarn over. 🤷♀️
Your method is very smart, but need to aware of your presentation, it is a bit boring, repeating the same thing again and again
Your video can be readily shortened to 10 minutes. You can skip the first 11 min of talking and down to business.
