John Woo knows how to deliver. This 90's epic definitely a favorite of the time and still holds up in entertainment value and action every step of the way; especially that crazy boat chase and conclusion to the film.
The face touching thing is so frikking funny 🤣
John Woo's trademark "bullet ballet" action. Gun-fu ruled the 90's. Good times.
Interesting fact: the person singing "Over the Rainbow" is Olivia Newton-John (RIP), which makes for a Grease reunion of sorts. This is the closest Hollywood-era John Woo ever got to his Hong Kong glory days. You have to check out The Killer (1989), Hard Boiled and A Better Tomorrow 1 and 2.
There's something different about 90s action. The Rock, Broken Arrow, Con Air. And somehow Cage or Travolta always has something to do with it.
😊 same
😊 same
😊 same
You.certainly will never see a movie like this again with 2 white male leads
Don’t forget Under Siege.
31:15 It's called a "harpoon" in English too. 👍
Not taking it seriously is exactly the right mindset to go into this movie with. It is a stupid, ridiculous film, but I love it!
Fun fact: that was Thomas Jane in the prison! Sooooo that makes Punisher in the same universe!! 😅
Hi Dasha. Face Off was one of the introduction to Western audiences of its director John Woo. He was a Hong Kong. film director and had made some seriously crazy action packed movies (my favourite being Hard Boiled) and brought that fast and furious action style to Hollywood in the early 90's with films like JCVD in Hard Target but Face off was one if the most successful (in my opinion of course 😊) but isn't an easy story line is quite daft and not easy to digest. It does though have some fantastic JW action sequences that elevated it to an epic action status. also it showed off Nicholas cage's more psycho style to great effect (which became his more memorable acting method) 😂 JW made Broken Arrow with Travolta a year before Face Off which isn't too bad and a few years later with NC in Windtalkers which was based on a true story and pretty good. too.
Realism? Authenticity? A 90s action movie cares not for these things.
"Your bloodtypes won't match" ... but go ahead, wear his face
True that's how 90s action movies were back then, same can be said about the movie Jet Li's The One.
It's all about the story.
I mean it's a movie my guy, none of this shit's real.. 😅 wait untill you find out they're all people paid to pretend!
I was amazed to learn from this film that a person's "face" has nothing to do with the underlying skeletal structure, but instead is based purely upon the flesh sitting on top of the skeletal structure.
Another classic 'must-watch' film. I'm glad you watched this, finally 🙂
33:18 "...ridiculous -- but all of it together somehow makes a great movie." Yeah, this is one of those movies that shouldn't work, but does. 😆
Always the best reactions......
16:52 so that's where Danny Masterson started it...
Will never age well, and yet, too soon!! 😮
6:25
Watching the dots connect was awesome. 🤣👍
John Woo will always be a legend and inspiration!
The switch in acting is literally world class im not sure there's anything been done like it and if so not as good
Random trivia: In one of the scenes in the face-swapping lab there are some tanks branded "InGen" (John Hammond's company in Jurassic Park). So, arguably, Face/Off and Jurassic Park take place in the same universe.
Lmfaoooo 😅 even bigger stretch than the entire plot itself! Well done!!
And the prison magnetic boots are also used on 90s
Mario brothers😮 Also same universe🤔
@@WillsonT011 I'm totally on board with this, would 100% watch the crossover.
Priviet Dasha. This is such a good action film from John Woo. John and Nic make a perfect enemy duo. Nice reaction. This is one of my favorite films. For more John Travolta, try Marvel's The Punisher, Broken Arrow, and Look Who's Talking.
The action sequences is credit to Chinese Director John Woo... who is known for his incredible action sequences
Your reaction was great!!! Yes it was the correct use of "AKA" or Also Known as....
This is a wonderful movie of putting yourself in the deep of it from the very beginning!!!
Another John Travolta one to try with your connection to Russia would be "The Experts"1989
You're absolutely right. The premise is so out there. According to the surgical technology we had at the time, and still today, such a procedure is absolutely impossible so quick with no scarring- skin transplants like that take weeks and months of healing. Also the underlying bone structure plays a big role in what a face look like, not just the skin. Also body type- Cage is much slimmer; Travolta is more broad.
HOWEVER! If we as the audience can simply accept the premise for what it is, then the dramatic tension of who is who and living a different life, and one's relationships, etc- all of that stuff plays very well.
I personally think that Nic Cage is good, though somewhat over-rated; he's not some acting god, he's just quite good. Travolta is also good, though his involvement with Scientology puts me off. But in this film, as actors, as characters, they both did a very good job of playing each other; picking up on the mannerisms of their "own" character, and their "borrowed face" character; they played it very well.
"What do you want?"
....A FACE WOULD BE NICE??! Lmaooo
For another classic Travolta role from the nineties you should check out “Get Shorty” (1995) Great cast and a cool story.
Cage & Travolta's chemistry in this movie is classic gold, cool reaction as always Dasha, you take care and have a great weekend sweetie 🥰❤️
Shooting two guns at the same time was created for film by the teaming up of Director John Woo and actor Chow Yun-Fat. Both have used that technique in their respective films since.
The "face-swapping" procedure seems unrealistic because the original idea for Face/Off was that it was a sci-fi movie set in the future with future tech. John Woo (if I remember right) was the one who wanted it switched so that it was set in (at the time) modern day. Even with that swap, the film is still a 100% action movie classic. Travolta and Cage had a blast playing each other, and John Woo is without doubt, one of THE legendary action directors in cinema. Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
First of all...thanks for watching this 90s classic. 2nd. I love your long drawn out rrrrrrrr... and 3rd.. let's see what you think of the film. I am excited.😉
This movie is so over the top & ridiculous that it actually ends up working lol.
Entertaining movie 😂
I LOVE this movie! 90s action movies are the best. Also Sasha (Gina Gershon) KNEW that Castor was actually Archer when she showed up at the church, but she knew Arxher was a good man and Castor was not, he didn't give a F about Adam. I have the Blue ray of this and John Woo says so in the special features
Hugo under the Blanket 🤣
This was my favorite movie for a while.
This is a type of action movie that can best be described as a romp. The plot is a little thin, but damn it, its fun!
AKA stands for "Also Known As", so you were using it just fine. Its meant to convey other names/nicknames/titles someone might be known as.
I absolutely LOVE this movie!!
This is one of the Greatest movies from the 90's
😂 the emotional points are semi effective but easy to laugh at too. Still a fun fun movie. I love nic cage's performance
@5:03 “She’s finding herself?” I like comedian Blake Clark’s response to a young man in the mall who was trying to find himself. He ended up taking the young man to the map layout of the mall and pointed to the part that says “You are here” and said “There you are”. 🤣
The guy that was playing the daughter’s date in the red car, is Danny Masterson, who recently was convicted on two counts of sexual assault for drugging and r**ing two women, so it’s pretty creepy to see him acting like he’s forcing himself on a woman.
This was the first movie where we got a glimpse at the lunatic Nic Cage was becoming
@29:01 The sweetest moment of unexpected irony.
I realized what great actors Travolta and Cage are when this thought popped into my head: For a large part of the movie (try to keep up) John Travolta has to play Sean Archer pretending to be Castor Troy, and at the same time Nicholas Cage has to play Castor Troy pretending to be Sean Archer! If that sentence didn't make sense to you, read it again. Because it actually DOES make sense.
Ahhh, 90’s action movies! There was John Woo and a bunch of people imitating John Woo!
Your two facial expressions at 2:29 should have been the thumbnail. 🤣
"This is between us. Leave them out of it."
"No. You should have left them out of it. Your son was an accident. I wanted to kill you. But, you took it too personally. Why couldn't you just kill yourself or let it go?"
"No father could."
"No brother could either."
"Neither could a sister."
Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Dominique Swain.
Reused Props Fact: The magnetic boots the prisoners wear in Erewhon prison are the same boots worn by the Goombas in Super Mario Bros. (1993).
Good Frienemies Fact: Nicolas Cage and John Travolta spent two weeks together before filming to learn how to play each other. They decided on specific gestures and vocal cadences for each character that could be mimicked.
Music Enthusiast Fact: The scene of Adam (David McCurley) listening to Over The Rainbow (1989) by Olivia Newton-John on his portable headphones was John Woo's idea and not part of the original script. Paramount Pictures refused to finance the extra scene and John Woo had to use his own money to make that happen. He was later paid back as the film turned out to be profitable.
Casting Notes Fact: Originally Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone were in mind to play the lead roles. When John Woo was brought in to direct, he decided that John Travolta and Nicolas Cage would be more suited to the roles. Other pairs that the studio wanted were Michael Douglas (who was the executive producer for this movie) and Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis and Alec Baldwin, and Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
You used a.k.a. (Also Known As) correctly. Definitely no judgment here - you probably speak two or three languages better than most of us speak one.
Director John Woo's Hollywood movies aren't as beautifully emotional or as over the top frenetic as his Hong Kong movies. You should watch some of his "heroic bloodshed"classics like "The Killer" (1989) or "Hard Boiled" (1992).
Dasha. You did use AKA correctly. It means "Also Known As". And when you said Caster Troy AKA Shawn Archer you used it correctly. And it's called a Harpoon in English as well. Again... Well done. Great Video. Keep it up Girl, you Rock! And way to predict the ending before it happened. Good job!
This stupid movie has lived rent free in my head since it came out. Be careful what dumb movies you watch when you're 14, because you will imprint on them like a duckling and never get them out of your subconscious.
The lines "I could eat a peach for hours," and "I hope they play more of those salmon spawning scenes - I found them intensely erotic" are still rattling around in my brain to this day.
Great reaction! I enjoyed rewatching this with you.
I love this movie, Travolta and Cage did a great job👍🏻
Watched this movie everyday when it came out on video.
Hi Dasha!😊 Yeah, they really should have made this happen in the near future to make it more believable. But the over-the-top action really carries the film. Plus, the two characters acting like each other is funny. You predicted right that Sasha would die and they would take in Adam. Great reactions to this big action film, Dasha!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
This movie is so much fun. Plus Travolta and Cage are at their absolute best, over the top and fantastic.
I'd like to tell you about another one, that also has Travolta as the "bad guy" its called Broken Arrow. Plus it has the same director too, John Woo. Its worth a watch.
And yes it's called a harpoon in America too
This movie is insane, but it's fun. Cage and Travolta are clearly having a blast.
This movie is childhood memories for me thanks for your reaction to this action packed John Woo classic.
18:52 "Because the bullets are gonna destroy the hearing -- right? -- and because he's [a] kid he's more vulnerable?" No, I suspect they put the headphones on him in an attempt to isolate his senses from the attack to prevent him from suffering any psychological trauma.
"гарпун" is pronounced "harpoon" 🙂 You rock Dasha❤
2:30 ....That Nic Cage face🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not my favourite Cage or Travolta movie, but still very good one. They did quite good job playing the opposite one.
Nic Cage at his Nic Cage-iest 😅
Also, Travolta doing Cage is my favorite performance of his.
John Woo's Hollywood movies (Face/Off, Broken Arrow, Hard Target, and Paycheck) are all incrediblely over the top and a lot of fun. His Hong Kong work is much more nuanced - The Killer, A Better Tomorrow, and Hard-Boiled are all fantastic Woo.
😊
Disgusting fact, the guy who tried to rape Archer's daughter was played by Danny Masterson. He's a scientologist freak who was recently sentenced to a long prison term for raping women. That scene hits different now. They took care of that monster on screen and off screen.
Also, your emotions are on point. You feel things deeply. This movie has it all.
There should of been a sequel where Adam grows up and learns the truth of his parents and seeks revenge 😂
Movie magic aside, it was a great movie. Loved Travolta acting as Nicholas Cage. "Papa's got a brand new bag"
29:51 - "A.K.A." stands for "Also Known As" so you were using it correctly. "AKA Sean" "Also Known As Sean" you were right!
Dasha looking great!❤😁👍
Nic Cage went straight from filming Con Air to filming this which explains his performance, which is MANIC !
Same director as Mission Impossible 2. If you liked this then try Hard Target (Van Damme) and Hard Boiled (Travolta and Christian Slater).
Joan Allen who plays Archer's long suffering wife is excellent in cute comedy Pleasantville (Tobey Maguire + Reese Witherspoon) about two kids that get sucked into a black and white TV sitcom.
Hard Boiled is Chow Yun Fat, I think you meant Broken Arrow has Travolta/Slater.
I had a feeling that giving the daughter a knife would become important. Just didn’t realize how badly it would backfire on the real Castor Troy! How ironic was that?!
Great reaction Dasha!! 6:10 (Augmentation) means - The action or process of making or becoming greater in size or amount.
When I first seen this movie
It was already epic to me
John and Cage in a movie together The best of the best
And it’s Brilliant !!! Star struck
"Troy Castro" 😂😉
FUNNY FACE/OFF (1997 ) FILM - FIRST TIME WATCHING - MOVIE REACTION -REVIEW - WITH COMMENTARY !!!!
Great job Dasha! Another fun reaction. The plot is stupid, but it's a lot of fun to watch. Even more fun watching it with you. Keep up the great work.
Face Off is so awesome
Nic Cage was gatting paid for being Nic Cage. :D
I think Travolta said it was easier to him to play NIc Cage then the other way around. :P
yeah if you can accept the ridiculous Face-swapping concept, its a great fun movie. It's kind of a fantasy movie with "science" instead of a magic spell or something. You just gotta go with it!
Quite a touching movie at the end of the day 😊
Based on everything that has happened this year & what we know now in regards to Danny Masterson getting 30 years to life in prison for rape, now everytime I watch his character Karl attacking Jamie in the car in the driveway, it literally makes me sick to my stomach. That scene did NOT age well & I wish Castor Troy had done a lot worse to him.. No, nevermind, then it still would have been fictional. Maybe I shoulda said I wish John Travolta had done a lot worse to him.. If only Dominique Swain had that knife a little earlier, am I right? Lol. In all seriousness though...just eww. **Shivers** I wish this part of the film didn't exsist now..
The greatest cheesy movie ever!! 🧀
Awesome movie reaction. I hope you have a fantastic day Dasha and a blessed weekend. 😊
12:00 the movies have us believe that federal prisoners are allowed to watch the news
Hi Beautiful. Been watching your reactions off and on. But just a thing I loved about this movie. Is the fact how each actor played each of their parts. Showed how talented each of them are and how the Director had an eye on bringing out different aspects to their art. Sort of speaking. Remember the moon looks the same eevry where on the planet. Enjoy life and life will always enjoy you.
Dasha, your English is getting better and better. 👍
Please watch Hard Target (1993) no one has reacted to it on RUclips yet.
Underated classic!
This is still one of my favorites. Thank you, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend 🌹
You used a.k.a. (Also Known As) correctly. Definitely no judgment here - you probably speak two or three languages better than most of us speak one.
the irony that the daughters boyfriend was danny masterson
Great movie. : . Nick Cage has some other great movies like Snake Eyes and 8mm which is quite a shocking movie.
Very energetic reaction! 😊
“Papas got a brand new bag…”
-James Brown and Castor “f*cking” Troy
Love your reactions, little lady. And your perfectly wonderful accent is so very adorable. I appreciate you sharing your content and keep on keeping on. Gritos from Tejas
Man I loved this movie
Nicholas Cage was Lord of War as a gun runner extroidanare, even though most people didn't watch that movie. Their loss. Epic cover.
I love your "Are you sherious?". 🙂
Quite honestly this movie is ridiculous 😂 so yeah you're right but that mirror shoot out scene is really cool and you can't replicate it 🤷🏻♂️
Yes you used a.k.a. Right
Great reaction 🔥💯 love this movie
It's been awhile since I've seen your videos. Your eyes look good without so much make-up.
Another one thst came out around this time frame was Broken Arrow.
Awesome movie
Great movie 😊
Hello, privet, privet, when I saw this I dropped everything.
