This movie is a CLASSIC. They do not make them like this anymore. It's like peak 90s, super cool to see the younger generation watching it :)
This is one of my favorite movies of all time..Sean Connery is a legend. The first James Bond most people think of among many other roles.
Nicholas Cage is an underrated actor.
Nicholas Cage is fun at times if you like his type of movie that are ALL THE SAME. He can only play ONE ROLE so he is NOT UNDERRATED as an actor. If anything, most of these movies could be acted better with almost any actor if we are talking about the ability to act.
14:22, Stanley being a father really made him empathize with Mason in this moment. Mason being a father made him help Stanley.
Ed Harris - one of the most under-rated supporting actors IMO.
Hummel laying his Medal Of Honor on his wife's gravestone before carrying out his desperate and illegal plan reminds me of how often in interviews with real Medal Of Honor recipients they say that they have an obligation to never bring disgrace upon what the medal represents and to not sully the courage and sacrifice of the others who have received it.
I love his line "Please don't think less of me" while he does it.
@@royoschroeder Me too!
His wifes gravestone literally reading "His wife" is a nice Michael Bay touch
Ooh no it's Chucky!
Best line ever 😂😂😂😂 i think I cracked a rib laughing so much 😂😂😂😂
"It's never too late to make an effort." One of the many many reasons I love watching Dasha's reactions. Her insights are poignant and inspiring on how we should conduct and live our lives. She really pays attention to the details in the movie and gains alot of insight from them, and sharing her own. She has great respect for the creators of the movies, and her audience. Great work, Dasha.
Edited: I watched this in the theater when it first came out, and even after all these years, I still get emotional at the SEALs and Marines confrontation.
The ultimate 90'ies action flick!!
The chemistry between cage and connery is second to none.
The reason giving the money wasn't an option is because, by policy, money is never paid to terrorists, because if it's ever paid even once, it's basically an open invitation for future terrorists.
Only if it gets out that it was paid. Could of also paid it after they defeated them and/or if other guys went public with it or threatened.
The US makes deals with terrorists, but that´s different, right? Iran/Contra affair? Never heared? 😉
I love her reactions... But I cannot help it but laugh with her "that's what she/he said" jokes 😂
This is a childhood fave. Never gets old
When I first saw this in the theater I declared it as the best action movie ever. I may have been a little over enthusiastic, but I still say it’s one of the best! 👍
Great story, phenomenal cast, and heart pumping music! It’s definitely in my top 3 of action movies 🍿
That scene in the shower still brings tears to my eyes to this day! It’s so damn powerful and the acting was absolutely superb!
Fun fact this movie was a huge inspiration for Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid video game series. So much so that he got the same musical composer of this movie to make music for the sequels.
Wow I never knew that
Oh? So that’s the other source they mashed Snake Plissken from Escape from NY into.
Do you also happen to know which was his favorite mecha anime inspiration..?😆
Your empathy speaks to my heart, and adds so much to the film. I wish I could watch all my favorites with your commentary
There's a very convincing fan theory that Mason is actually James Bond, the timeline lines up with his official last mission
This was one of most favorite movies back in the day.
Another very underrated movie that also stars Sean Connery and Ed Harris is Just Cause. It also stars Laurence Fishburne.
The Rock is Michael Bay's best film in his filmography. Great reaction! 👍🏿
This was during a time when Nick Cage was on fire. The Rock, Face/Off, Leaving Las Vegas, City of Angels, Con Air...
Easily one of my favorite movies of all time and definitely Michael Bays best movie in my opinion.. but Han Zimmers score is INCREDIBLE! This was the first movie score CD I ever bought and used the music in some of my indy short films I made back in the day. God, I love this movie lol
I love the theory that John mason is James Bond. James bond being a code name passed from agent to agent
The tombstone at the beginning that just reads "His wife" so we know who she is, is so corny that it almost breaks the mood of the scene 😂
This is one of the best pure action movies there is. Nothing too fancy, just good story and amazing action! But that is all it takes!
Though he has a smaller role in this film as Commander of the SEAL team, Michael Biehn (Kyle Reece from Terminator) plays a similar role to some of his other movies. The shouting scene between him and Hummel (Ed Harris) really stuck with me for a while when I first saw it. Great scene.
I also loved the scene between Connery and Harris, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants" ~ Thomas Jefferson. "Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious." - Oscar Wilde.
Such presence from Connery. If you haven't seen him as James Bond, you should.
Biehn and Harris have an even more tense couple of scenes in The Abyss.
This is itself an unofficial James Bond film 🤣🤣.
Crazy action film streak Nicolas Cage had back then :D
1995 The Rock
1996 Con Air
1997 Face Off
I really liked Gone in Sixty Seconds.
This is a Michael Bay movie done right
Before he got into his ruining childhood phase.
This is more a Jerry Bruckheimer movie. He and Tony Scott had pretty much nailed down this visual style for all the flicks Bruckheimer produced. Bay was still a director for hire at this point.
This was when he was a Pyromaniac who had ADHD. 😂
Definitely one of the greatest movies back in the 90s along with great actors too Sean Connery and Ed Harris.👍👍
He's actually, really James Bond.
There is a 20 minute video on RUclips explaining why this is Connery's last Bond movie. Also, atropine is used to treat nerve agent exposure but it is injected in the thigh, not the heart.
This film is insane. Enormous fun, but totally mad.
Hi Dasha, I got pizza and soda for this big action movie!🙂🍕🥤"The Beatles" are AWESOME, Dasha! I grew up listening to my parents music albums of them.🎶"SAS" is Special Air Service , Dasha. It is the Special Forces Unit of the British Army. Sean Connery is kind of playing an older version of James Bond.😉The military portion of this film is pretty accurate, Dasha. The U.S. Government policy is to not give in to terrorist demands. Otherwise, anyone could hold the Government hostage. Brigadier General Hummel would be considered a terrorist here, even though his motives are good. In fact, because of his military training and knowlege of terrorist procedures, it makes him a more dangerous threat. This is one of the BEST action films and after 27 years shows no signs of aging. SUPER reactions to this action classic, Dasha!!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
There is a really cool theory that this is an unofficial James Bond movie. Regardless, it is really good!
I often say that "The Rock" is one of my favorite James Bond movies.
It really does make sense as one. And I like to think "Man on Fire" is almost a prequel to "The Equalizer"
Especially after the final JB movie where he gets… um… pretty much vaporized.
there is an excellent video on this floating around on RUclips, breaks it down to the exact timeline, and it works perfectly.
Every branch of the Armed Forces has their elite commandoes. In the Marine Corps, they're called Force Recon. In the Navy, they're called the SEALs. We saw both of them in this movie.
In the Army, though, they're called the Green Berets. In the Air Force, they're called Pararescue Jumpers and Combat Control Technicians.
But it's not just every branch of the _US_ Armed Forces. In the Russian Army, they're called the Spetsnaz. In the British Army, they're called the Special Air Service (or SAS). We saw one of _them_ in this movie, as _well._
You forgot some. Army also has Delta Force. The British also have the SBS. I think the Russians have an elite team called Alfa.
SCUBA = Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. With snorkeling, you stay at or just under the surface but the snorkeling tube remains above the water so you can breath. Some people say that Sean Connery's character is really James Bond! Both have the same service record (SAS: Special Air Service in Great Britain, which is like American Special Forces, or Russian Spetsnaz). This was a fun watch, especially with your reactions!
I agree, you can always rewatch this movie and it good every time. One of my all time favourites.
Fan theory is he is actually James Bond, the same Bond character that Connery played in the 1960s, in here.
I've never seen or heard her laugh that loud. That was funny.
20:22 "Okay, at least they didn't show us the squishing part." 🤣 I love your sense of humor (although I know you were also being serious).
Another good Michael Bay action movie is Armageddon. It has a well known cast of actors too. Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Billy Bob Thornton, Owen Wilson, Michael Clarke Duncan, Steve Buscemi, Eddie Griffin... an more.
If you haven’t listened to the Beatles every day for at least a month straight, then you haven’t gone through your Beatles phase yet.
Dasha you asked how accurate this movie is when it comes to military, right after he said he was removing the guidance chip from the rocket! Rockets don't have guidance chips, that's what makes them rockets. Only missiles are guided 😊
One of the best Zimmer Soundtracks of all time.
RIP John Spencer. Loved his role in The West Wing as Leo McGarry.
Top 3 90s action for me. I love this movie and never get tired of seeing it.
EASY one of the best 90s action
"I do not see how you cherish the memory of the dead by killing a million more."
If you're interested in more Sean Connery movies, "Dragonheart" (1996) is a must watch......
One of the better 'James Bond' movies !
Strange to think that some people consider this the "last" James Bond movie with Sean Connery that is NOT listed as a James Bond movie... which I can actually kind of understand.
But the truth is, this is supposed to have nothing to do with James Bond at all, and simply is a complete coincidence that Connery was supposed to be a UK spy... mostly because Connery couldn't do a single thing WITHOUT his Scottish accent coming through. In other words, HAD Connery been able to do a more convincing American accent, he would have been written as a typical criminal, NOT a "former spy".
What a fun movie! Also, Hans Zimmer who did the music also did the music to Pirates of the Carribean. You can tell (if you get a chance google the similarities, its fun). Great reaction!
Your compassion is everything
I love the implication that Sean Connery is actually James Bond
One of the best action films ever. I'd also declare that Ed Harris's character Hummel one of the most sympathetic villains of all time. The film's got some killer soundtrack as well, by Hans Zimmer, which suited very well with the overall theme which is betrayal. Dasha, you're not the only 1 that wants Hummel to succeed too. I also agree with u that this is a movie where u can watch many times and it's always good.
One thing I love about this movie is that the villain of the movie had a just cause.
This movie is basically a hard core James Bond movie. It just has the exact same story structure as one.
The beauty of the General's plan is no matter what happens, SOMEONE should ask themselves "Why would a highly decorated General do this?" especially after he more than likely went through all proper channels talking about the compensation of the soldiers families that lost their lives in the line of duty.
8:15 SAS - Special Air Service. Like the US Delta Force, Russian Spetsnaz, Polish GROM, French Foreign Legion, Israeli Sayeret Matkal (which btw shares the SAS motto: Who Dares Wins). Almost every modern Special Forces unit in the world is modeled after them.
SAS is not really comparable to the Frech Foreign Legion.
It's just a good, plain, fun movie. If it comes on TV, I'm watching it. If friends want to watch it, I'm putting it on. It's a great 1990's American action movie.
SAS, Special Air Service. Elite British special forces upon which pretty much all other national special forces are modelled and compared to.
The colonel wanted the money for the families, but most of the mercenaries he hired wanted the money for themselves and probably would have killed him anyway after gaining access to the bank account if they had succeeded, so they were the real bad guys.
This is a great movie! Love Hummel as the "bad guy". One of the best in movies.
This film is low key chronologically the final installation of the James Bond franchise
So much fun! Good one, Dasha! 😄
This reaction made me so happy, i love this movie so much.
I had the experience of visiting Alcatraz back in 2001 and I met an author there selling copies of his book about working there as a guard before the prison was closed.
Face Off is Cage's best movie, pure 90s action flic
There are a lot of times that i think "i can't think of anybody else playin that role" and Ed Harris as General Hammel is one of them!LOVED your reaction ❤
Great reaction to a great movie Dasha but Hugo was thinking "Hmmm, who is my human talking to ! "
Cool reaction as always Dasha, you have a great weekend sweetie 🥰❤️
So, the big theory on this movie is that Mason is actually none other than James Bond 007 himself. Check out the excellent video on youtube explaining this theory.
Man I love Sean Connery I wish there were more actors with his sort of presence around now
Great job Dasha! Really fun reaction to a really great action movie. I knew you'd enjoy it. Keep up the great work.
4:49 "I just watched a bomb-diffusing process, but this one feels harder to watch, you know. Like the whole building almost blew-ed up -- it was easier to watch than this thing." That's understandable, I think. Here they're in danger of blowing up their whole happy life together! 😆
Great reaction Dasha! love rewatching movies with you! Thanks
I always liked the theory that The Rock is a James Bond movie where Bond goes rogue.
Ah, you're watching the last Connery Bond film 😆 That's a bit of a meme, but someone on RUclips looked at the dates, and it seems like it could work 🤷♂
But its a GREAT movie anyway. I remember watching this in the cinema, it was fantastic, and its been good every time I've seen it on a smaller screen since.
General Hummel is such a great villain because he really believes what he's doing is for the best and a good cause. Also some people view this as Sean Connery's last Bond film and I can see it in the character he plays
I enjoyed this action movie with Nicholas cage and Sean Connery.
best action movie of the 90s very rewatchable, glad you really enjoyed it.
One of 3 action movies Nicolas Cage did in the 90s that were very popular the others being Face/Off and Con Air. I also love quoting this movie "How in the name of Zeus' BUTTHOLE!"
Nicolas Cage's role was supposedly written for Arnold Schwarzenegger to star.
This is an unofficial James Bond movie. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
The way Dasha probounced Ya Mike Ah ( Jamaica) 😍😍😍
27:07 Dog looks worried.
27:06 woke pupper up 😂
This is my first time watching this with headset! Whoa, great sound! Dasha's voice is incredible and her eyes are even more beautiful 🤩
Love this movie, its one of the big 3 Nic Cage Action movies in the late 90s, you've already seen Con Air but the last is Gone in 60 Seconds which i think is another fun movie to watch.
Also I love The Rock fan theory that Mason is actually James Bond who went missing after Connerys last Bond movie which explaine why he was replaced by Roger Moore
Excellent reaction!!!! You are always an entertaining reactor. Thanks!!!!
15:37 "She's a go getter girl."
Dasha certified ✅
A classic if ever there was one.
It wasn’t made as one but I always loved the fan theory that this could be a James Bond movie.
as always, I got to add this to every reaction of the movie. If you look at my username this is where the vX comes from this movie, and I been using it ever sins this movie came out. Thats how much I love this movie ^^
This is the story of what became of Connery’s James Bond.
I'd recommend watching entrapment
Great reaction video, Dasha. A fun movie to watch. To catch the last of the late Sean Connery's good movies, you must watch and enjoy "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"
Great action packed movie! Your reaction was awesome! I really like this movie its been a favorite of mine for a long time! Connery, Cage and Harris are Freaking Awesome!!! Luv ya Dasha ❤💛
The character of Mason is the 007 agent for MI6
Love how much you loved the movie...one of my favs
Dasha another great reaction to one of my favorite movies and apparently yours too. Yes on snorkel except it is for the mouth only. You wear a mask that also covers your nose to keep water out. Like you said in the beginning about the movie poster had great actors and lots of action plus plot twists. I also have to add loved your dog in the background reacting to your reactions. I think you must be a riot in an actual movie theater watching a movie. Хорошо. Спасибо большое.
Great movie and reaction! More Nick movies like National Treasure and Gone in 60 seconds.
Looking very sharp Dasha! It's obviously summer where you are. It's winter here in New Zealand, but summer is just around the corner for us...
The Rock: James Bond's Final Mission
To anyone here who have ever played Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, there were 2 levels that had references made to this movie. The first was The Gulag mission where the shower room looked similar to the one in the movie. The 2nd was at the end of Whiskey Hotel where the player had to release green smoke to call off an airstrike just like in the movie.
