    As an Israeli myself, I have never heard of this crap! But just one question, I lived in an area named Arava, the very far south of Israel, about 30 minutes north of Eilat. There are mountains between the Arava and the northern part of the Negev, how are the ships gonna pass through this? Just asking, no need for politics...

    From an engineering standpoint this canal is possible but not feasible. It would need around one hundred locks to pass the 2000 ft elevation between the Gulf of Eilat /Aqaba and the Mediterranean Sea. Those locks would require over 60 million gallons of water to be pumped from the sea to the top of the lock system each hour.
    Edit: Double those figures for the dual canals proposed (200 locks and 120 million gallons per hour) .

    • @abatesnz
      @abatesnz 10 месяцев назад +18

      Better to go North from Eilat to the Dead Sea, then diagonally across via the Jezreel Valley from south of Beit She'an to just south of Haifa.

    • @mudboy9762
      @mudboy9762 10 месяцев назад +28

      @@abatesnz It does not matter what direction you take, the minimum elevation for any path between the Gulf of Eilat /Aqaba and the Mediterranean Sea is still over 2000 feet. Pumping that much water to an artificial inland lake at the highest elevation every hour is not feasible because of the number of pumps, pipes, and power requirements.

    • @elinys2843
      @elinys2843 10 месяцев назад +17

      Any lock takes time, time is money. This is economically a stupid idea. If it takes double the time to pass through this new canal, it will not be economically viable. And it will give Egypt a perfect reason to collect even more from each passage.

    • @abatesnz
      @abatesnz 10 месяцев назад +20

      @mudboy9762 nah, they are both at sea level. The canal can remain so if heading north to the Dead Sea, up the River Jordan, then diverting NW towards Haifa, from just south of Beit She'an, crossing via the Jezreel Valley where I said. No lock needed.

    A canal could go this route through tunnels so minimal water would be required as the canal remains at sea level. In the uk we have 200 yr old canals that do this. In pre motor days, when barges were usually pulled by horses, who clearly couldn't manage the tunnels, men used to lie down on planks laid across the barge and " walk" along the tunnel walls either side, to propel the barge forward !

    If extra capacity for shipping is needed, Egypt could build a second canal alongside the first. The terrain is low-lying, flat, and the "rock" is sand. Much easier, quicker, cheaper, and more sensible than illegally nuking a canal through the Negev and Gaza. That would leave a ribbon of radioactivity, polluting the waters of the Mediterranean and the Gulf of Aqaba. Egypt has already built waterway bypasses to reduce Suez bottlenecks, but that was only a piecemeal solution, and a full "dual carriageway" canal is needed. The task of building an Israeli canal would be more comparable to the difficult Panama Canal project than to the Suez Canal, whose construction was, by contrast, something of a breeze. Lately, Egypt has been overcharging vessels to such an extent that shipowners can find it cheaper to go round the Cape of Good Hope. Perhaps the threat of Israeli competition might promote more reasonable passage fees!

    Putting the canal on the border between Gaza and Egypt would prevent terrorist tunnels. Also, after the Ben Gurion canals are completed in five years, the Suez canal could be modernized with two deeper channels, passing areas, service area for ships, automated ports, desalinization plants, and tourist hotels/restaurants. Two modern two-lane canals would help the larger cargo and tourist ships of today along with promoting world peace.

      There's certainly a single-minded determined attitude that is admirable, but the difference between that and arrogant vindictiveness is small-to-nonexistent! Netanyahu's 'no compromise' attitude meant that the current crisis was inevitable (and perhaps even planned for). It's certainly different to, for example, the (more) diplomatic method of Shimon Perez or even Yitzhak Rabin - but then so is the other side's from, e.g. Yasar Arafat's most effective/successful later period (though his 'early' period was extremely non-compromising).

    Putting a canal right thru the middle of the Gaza strip would be placing it right thru enemy territory - even if Israel thought it had 'controil' of the Palestinians sufficient to do this, it would be a horribly risky business unless Gaza/they had a vested interest in supporting this plan ! Making air cargo cheap enough might mean there was no need for a new canal anyway. And they could just dredge the existing canal much deeper couldn't they ? Cheaper fuels are coming up anyway & might make the longer sea routes more tolerable too ! Maybe some reorganizing of what is being shipped where might be considered - preferable fees to encourage the policies that make the best financial case should be looked at !

On the other hand, if they can't get the USA to pay for it, they can always run to China and I'm positive they would come up with the money for a project with this strategic value. It also sounds like Gaza might be in the way, oh wait, I think Israel is already well on the way to removing that roadblock. Somewhat convenient how things work out sometimes.

      According to a **U.S. News analysis**, the United States has given Israel more than **$260 billion** in combined military and economic aid since World War II, plus about $10 billion more in contributions for missile defense systems like the Iron Dome ¹. In 2021, U.S. obligations to Israel amounted to **$3.31 billion** ¹. So, you are correct, they have already squeezed the American taxpayer for everything they need, however Netanyahu has cozied up to Xi before, and I'm sure he would have no hesitation to do it again if he needed financing. Regarding Gaza, I am reading more and more that several routes have been proposed through the years, but I have not seen the mention of an artificial ocean. The pundits appear to agree that the shortest and most cost effective has it going through Gaza. In a very perverted way, that may explain why Israel is currently demolishing Gaza. If Gaza no longer exists, the canal becomes a much simpler proposition. Interestingly, some of those same pundits are asking how and why Israel's intelligence service could have failed so badly to identify and disrupt the horrific assault inflicted by Hamas. Does the canal have something to do with this failure?
      Good luck and best wishes.

    Makes great sense on many levels: 1) Geopolitical freedom and leverage: why allow the Suez to threaten worldwide trade? 2) Wider & deeper: allowing transit of today''s larger veseels fills an unmet need, saving $$ for shippers; 3) Options are always better than monopolies: increase everyone's autonomy

      If the Arabs had accepted the helplessly obvious fact that the Jews were originally from the Middle East and recognized the two-state solution midwifed, approved and executed by the UN in 1947, today as Semite brothers and sisters they'd both be building these engineering miracles and feeding the rest of the world; instead of all this insanity in sectarian violence.

      He's from Poland but he speaks Hebrew as official language of the state of Israel; and here you are arguing that is enough reason for the Jews not to have a nation-state of their own. Meanwhile, the Arabs have no less than 22 countries covering North Africa and Middle East.
      Continue with your sentiments. It's exactly why the Jews have decided to settle scores with anyone who's willing to fight them out of existence.

      The suez is 2 one way channels with a lake i the middle so ships can pass. Depending on the time of day when those 1 way switches directions. Also all ships gathered into a convoy before transiting. Depending on the make-up of the ships in convoy determines schedule, also.

      we've been betrayed, our government has created "fake news" but the internet provides answers, just don't rely on American media they are controlled by the same Zionists who wanna keep this project HUSH HUSH, as it commits genocide...Why is Yemen attacking ships in that area? Because they know that Isreal wants to kill off the Palestinians (genocide) to build that canal through Gaza and control that shipping lane which is BIG $$$$ and gives the Zionists financial comfort after the Saudis embraced BRICS....the Oct. 7th attack was motivated by these plans. My channel is Guerillas In The Midst...I'm sure you'll find it interesting, although we will probably disagree mostly...nevertheless, this is America right? Let's dialogue
