Actually, Scott deliberately changed a few notes in his part, just to prove it isn’t being lip-synced. Two of their own Christmas songs, “Thank You”, and “Please Santa Please” are two awesome holiday songs.

Kirstie also changed her part at the end. In the vid she didn't take a breath in the middle of her last solo 'hallelujah'

An interesting aside to this video: when PTX started getting famous, one of the questions people had about their videos was about over-dubbing. All anyone had seen Scott do to that point was sing high baritone and tenor parts. So when Avi started doing solos in some of the songs, everyone wondered how there was still a bass part if they were singing acapella straight. It was said that Scott, being a baritone, was taking over for Avi, but a lot of people didn't believe it, because they didn't think Scott's register was low enough to go into the upper-bass range. And so the suspicion was that Avi was being dubbed in behind his solos.
This video was the first conclusive proof that they weren't dubbing Avi in, that Scott actually does take the bass whenever the bass solos (he does it with Matt too). And the sweeping camera catches the switch-over the moment Avi starts his solo, and there is Scott, just killing the bass part all by himself. Turned out, Scott has a four-octave plus range, and his low end actually dips into the bass range a little. It was an amazing thing to see, and that put to rest any doubts about what PTX was pulling off - and it made THIS version the go-to version of Hallelujah to showcase just how good they are, because it sounds almost identical to the studio version, if not arguably better.

Never tire of this rendition by PTX. Although technically, not a Christmas song, the arrangement and the prayerful sound of the song, lend itself to Christmas. Great reaction Phil & Sam, always enjoy PTX. ❤❤. Be careful what you say about PTX, the Pentaholics will come at you with no mercy.

Please check out their newest releases, O Holy Night, Kiss from a rose, Pure Imagination/Christmas Time is Here!!!
Yes Scott takes over the bass whenever Avi or Matt have a solo. Hallelujah isn’t really even a religious song, let alone Christmas song, BUT PTX put this on a Christmas album…. So, kinda like with Kiss from a rose because it includes snow in the lyrics.

If you can remember this far back, the outro for the original Hallelujah video has them in these exact outfits - they were filming this TV special when they did the outro for the original video.
You have to appreciate the audience in this video - they have small outbursts for the beginning of the song, for Kirstie, and for Mitch, but the ending while PTX is humming at the end is just dead silent until the last note has been sung.

I live on the mid-coast of Maine, where I happened to have worked with a gentleman who played the french horn with a few friends of his. He was 81 at the time, his friends (5 0f them), were all between 85 and 94...., retired Boston Symphony Orchestra members. They told me that they had never heard such perfect harmony..., ever before in their lives. They all had the look of a solid case of "The Feels", when they listened to this song from them.
P.S. Leonard wrote this so you could change it up..., a lot. He wrote 83 different verses for it. Oh yeah, and he said in an interview, that the song is a love song, not a religious song. I think he may have said that with a "Tongue in cheek" way..., every version I've ever heard, even the few of Leonard himself, certainly sound very praise-y to me. He said it with a straight face too.

Now you know the "Official" video was in the California desert and old salt mine. Did you know Kirstin was having difficulty walking? That is why she stayed still as the 4 guys walked up to her. Also, they wanted the ending to be at sunset over Mitch's large hat.
Leonard Cohen wrote HALLELUJAH, but not as a Christmas song. It is about life and the ups and downs as we live. Each verse is about going through hard times when we often don't think about our faith. PTX wanted to include it on their Holiday album, which means they were in the summer desert (120°+) with those heavy black coats.
Pentatonix is very dedicated to their work and it shows. Have you checked out Kevin's arraignment of "O Come All Ye Faithfull" because it was in honor of his parents' heritage. It will make you think about the original song and how PTX always make Upgrades to traditional songs.
If you want to see:"Baby Pentatonix" their "Official" video "That's Christmas To Me" shows 2 pictures of each member as toddlers, including Avi. They do perform both songs in concerts but didn't do a new video with Matt for either song.
    Enjoyed your insight and reaction.

The official music video was shot in the Mojave desert Where in California is the Mojave desert. It is located in the southeastern California with portions in Nevada Arizona and Utah. It's worth mentioning that The official music video Was not only shot in the desert put it was shot in the summer. There are wearing the clothes that they are to give the impression that Winter time Hallelujah Is frequently mistaken for a Christmas song And it isn't. Prayers for this world From last years Christmas album and the prayer from the Christmas before that Many people Believe those are also Christmas songs but they are not. They just happened to appear On their Christmas albums. I think it was in 2021 the Big song was seasons of love from the Broadway musical/movie RENT. It also is not a Christmas song. The movie is about a year in the life of friends And it starts on Christmas eve. There is a video from a fourth of July special. It is a Kristie song and she nails it. There Christmas album evergreen was nominated for a Grammy Last years holidays around the world Christmas album was also nominated for a Grammy. There is a video called the making of evergreen. Evergreen was there Christmas album in 2022. Invited cameras into the recording of the song and it's really interesting to see See the process that go through Basically from it just been on the list of the songs are gonna do all the way to what the final product is. There are much recent live videos of hallelujah that have That in them. I don't know if This other video is 1That you reacted to but They're rendition of Dance of the sugar plum fairy from The nutcracker by Tchaikovsky1 them their second Grammy. They wanna Grammy for singing a song that has no words using no wordsPeriods Anytime of the year Is time for a Pentatonix Christmas song. Really enjoyed your reaction as I always do

Yes whenever the Bass is actually singing Scott takes over as the Bass. He is a natural Baritone so it is pretty easy for him to fall into the Bass role. They are phenomenal live. I saw them in 2018 and then again this past September, both times they did this song and it was incredible. Leonard Cohen who wrote Hallelujah has said the greatest rendition he's ever heard of this song was by a Canadian K.D. Lang. You need to do a reaction of the version she did at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic opening ceremonies...it is probably the most emotional performance I've ever witnessed. But there is another version of this song that I think you should react to. It is KD Lang's live version - it was done at some kind of awards event in Canada. Leonard Cohen himself praised her for her performance. She also sang "Crying" with Roy Orbison (he requested her) and then again as a tribute to him after his death. She is a fabulous singer that I think y'all should check out (live), if you have not already. Merry Christmas. God bless you.😅

What I heard Kirsty say about the location of the original, was the got in a van, and drove 2 hours outside of L.A., turned off into the desert and drove what seemed to be another 2 hours. Then when finished (right at sunset), they had to hurrry and load the equipment, and get back to the main road before dark, because there are not lights out there, and it would be impossible to find their way back in the dark. They barely made it to the road right as complete darkness set in. That is all I know.

Canadian Leonard Cohen was raised an Orthodox Jew ( occasional Buddhist monk) who imbued a love of Roman Catholic symbology growing up in Quebec and attending mass with their Irish maid. The song, which includes obvious Old Testament references, utilizes the single word, “Hallelujah,” (praise God) as an exultant chorus. Christmassy ? It’s uplifting in tone BUT it’s also a song about the dark side of humanity and of our most cherished yet abused yearning transcendent love. If there is redemption is it spiritual or sensual ? Story goes Cohen once asked Bob Dylan who covered Hallelujah how long it took to write A Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall, he said 15 minutes and Hallelujah ? Cohen embarrassed admitted 3 years. He was not being entirely honest either. In fact, he had toiled at Hallelujah for nearly a decade, filling his notebooks with 180 different verses and a rumoured 250 versions of each line.

Although a lot of Christmas songs were written by Jews I was pretty sure this was not written as a Christmas song. So I asked Google (& everything on Google is true). This is what I found:
Hallelujah began its life with a religious slant, reflecting Cohen's Jewish heritage, with allusions to King David and Bathsheba (“The secret chord that David played”) as well as Samson and Delilah. Later versions were more spiritual, and sometimes sexual.
There was mention in some things on Google that it has been seen as Christmas song but that’s not how it was written.

Much prefer this version to the current version with Matt. This whole song builds to that solo by Mitch and the angelic note he breaks in on. Matt tries a little to hard to make his verse different from Avi's and creates an anticlimax in the 2nd verse. It's worth hearing the current version but his is by far the superior model.

First off, this is not Christmas music. Secondly, listen to a version of the song written by Leonard Cohen to get a clue as to the real nature of this song: ruclips.net/video/M6mU0wMEmbQ/видео.htmlsi=TPHxQAkUjVlQIhDO
