Loyalty gave him extra time last season when at any other club, the manager would have been sacked. He’d used up the extra lives he earned from the promotion season and he had to go.

Would help if the owners hadn't bought 20 players he didn't want or approve of. You can't have cohesion with strangers. The owner has too much of a dictatorial style. He is 100% to blame, not Steve Cooper. This guy brought Forest from the BOTTOM of the Championship to the Premiership in 3/4 of a season. That takes talent. If Cooper had say in the recruitment, Forest would have landed in the top 8 last season and improved on that. The owner is an impatient bully. He has hired 5 different managers in less than 18 months at his other club, Olympiacos. That reflects poorly on him and proves his incompetence.
This 'any other club' lark isn't exactly true is it. Burnley went down and kept Dyche on. Norwich went down and kept Farke on. Both of them got them back up again. Leicester kept Pearson on, when they looked doomed. Burnley look likely to keep Kompany on this season no matter what happens. Leeds fans were begging to keep Bielsa in. Its a perfectly rational and sensible thing to do for the long term, if you think the coach isn't the problem. It wasn't quite as unique as people are saying to keep Cooper on, and it proved to be the correct decision last season. We'll see of this was the right one.
Lmaoo even if they get relegated we should keep him, get a grip deano. What fan wants to see their club get relegated rather than changing and trying to survive.If he did a bit of research he would realise there is a lot that has happened other than results that lead to coopers sacking.

I'd happily stick with Cooper if it meant forest getting relegated. It'd be nice to see forest playing competitive football again in The Championship and maybe being more ready next time for the Prem. We wasn't ready when we went up to the PL in 2021.
Im not a notts forest fan, but from the outside it feels very harsh. Cooper took over when u were in the relegation zone in the championship, he not only got forest in the prem but kept them there quite comfortably last season. Its obvious that there are 3 worst sides in the league than forest, so what do the forest hierarchy expect forest to finish in the league? Realistacly mid table is the best they cud achieve and that they may do so. So why sack cooper? Hes arguably their best manager since brian clough. As the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for.....

I am grateful to Cooper, but Deano is uneducated on this issue. The championship run was largely due to Brennan Johnson maturing at the right time. Johnson was unplayable and Cooper just inherited this. Cooper made fundamental mistakes. 1) Trusting Worrall to defend, 2) Not holding MGW to account re possession and 3) he wasted lots of money on Jonjo Shelvey and Chris Wood. Add those 3 up and you have to be accountable for decisions. it is hard for anyone who follows club closely to make a good case for keeping Cooper, unfortunately.
@@sitaylor Whilst Spence was great, I disagree, 19 goals, and 9 assists at his age was what separated him. Spence was important, but those goals and that finishing ability is rare. One got sold for £47 mill and one doesn't play for Leeds. As I stated Brennan was the difference!!!
@@martintotterdale765 its true we also happened to have Brice Samba in net who now plays for a UCL side. We never hired him because cooper refused his pay demands. Now we have spent 2 seasons trying to replace him and we still do not have a reliable keeper.
@@dbz9393 Yes, possibly, not sure of full reason. Bryce was brilliant but to be honest, I always felt he had an error not far away. But he was great and those pens!!!!

@@sitaylor Not sure what point you ar trying to make now, Different situations. The original point I made was the promotion was down to Brennan maturing at perfect time. Spence helped but was not instrumental like Brennan was --- see above!!

It’s done now. We all know what the game is, and what it has been for the last 20 years. Us fans wanted forest to be different, but let’s face it we haven’t spent 200 million quid. The biggest surprise was him not getting sacked last season. This is the norm.

Playing ultra low block and conceding so many goals and being woeful both offensively and defensively on set pieces is just the tip of the iceberg .

let's be fair, the only reason people know forest will be safe is because the three promoted sides are so, so clearly out of their depth in the prem. if they'd kept cooper and finished fourth bottom on, say, 34 points, does that put them in good shape for next season?
i like cooper, but i don't think it's a terrible time to change it up, for the short and longer term. plus they've got a proven prem coach who should see them progress

Look at the stats and tell me any other club with any other manager would accept having a top 6 net spend and a bottom 3 xG simultaneously halfway through the season. I'm a Forest fan and I LOVE Steve Cooper with all my heart. There's hardly a man alive I'd rather buy a pint for... but sometimes in life the correct professional decision is a tough sentimental one.
Personally i think Forest have done Cooper a favour he might not think that but if he had got them relegated then got sacked it would put him in a bad light for any other job with another championship club as it is now championship clubs will be wanting him if they need a new manager so he should have no problem getting another manager job.

I think it was harsh on Cooper but having said that, clubs need to evolve. I remember Nigel Adkins did a great job of getting Southampton up but he was sacked in favour of Pochettino which was a master stroke, evolution of a club . Perhaps Nuno will make them better. It's still harsh on Cooper
Expectations are too high and marinakis wants too much too quick. With Cooper we wouldve stayed up and continue to build towards what the owner wants now over the next few years. Instead now were in this position where nuno could take us sideways or it works out. Gotta back him either way coyr
