The old air marshal test is really about being fast but slowing it down to get consistency. The pars are relatively easy for a skilled pistol shooter to meet, but not messing up(especially in a test environment where everyone is watching you) is hard. I like to run one with the boys everytime someone gets a totally new kind of carry gun.
I believe that anyone who trains regularly would be capable of shooting this drill, because it looks like main focus on skills other than shooting I would be able to get the hits despite having relatively little amount of practice, but reloads and shooting with a draw are skills that take time and practice and I would not be able to do those It's one of those more reasonable tests, but also the one that shows the real level of competence with a firearm
The FBI Q targets are huge. The bottle is close to the size of a C zone on a USPSA target and you were going for smaller than an Alpha. So you more than passed!
He did not pass. He used optics and a competition trigger. The original Air Marshal weapon was the Sig 229 chambered in .357 Sig with stock trigger and standard ‘iron’ sights.
@@JJLTACTICALSOUTIONS Does the current air marshal qual allow for pistol mounted optics? Would you say it's advanced and changed since your 10 years in? If so, how has it changed? Can you speak to it?
@@FEAR_Actual the TPC (tactical pistol course) is no longer used because it was to hard for the younger generation to pass. So I can’t answer that question for you. All I can say is when I was at the academy right after 9/11 the test was done and the weapon was the Sig 229 chambered in .357 Sig. If I was like you and wanted to see if you could pass the original TPC, you would have to cut off some of the times due to the fact most people use the 9mm with optics now. For example, stage 1 when you have to draw and hit the target in under 1.65 seconds, I would lower that par time to maybe 1.25 seconds. This was ran after 9/11 during ramp up of FAM program with stock sig 229 in 357 sig and the holster was a desantis pancake snap top that they made you snap every time. So also no appendix carry which IMO is a quicker draw. If you failed you went home. Agency transitioned to G19 about 3 years ago. And this qual is no longer used except for training.
I don’t want to overly nitpick but your “low ready” is held far higher (and just below “point-shoulder”) than the trainers allow. Air Marshal’s low-ready is with elbows fully bent and the gun fully retracted back to within a few inches of the chest in order to have the weapon in a more protected/secure fashion. This makes the qualifier extend the firearm farther and acquire the target - a little more costly in terms of time but in practice, more protective of the gun. Using their technique will give you more realistic qual times.
Your target was much harder than the one that you’re supposed to use. You scored 100%. You get 2 points for outside the bottle. Your target was smaller than the bottle. The ones you counted as misses would’ve been full points.if any of your misses would’ve been in the brown cardboard they would’ve been 2 points.
Ya, the way I read it, was inside the bottle shape, not just the rectangle shape inside the bottle. Weird they would give two points for complete misses.
The correct target for this COF is the QIT-03, which has a "normal" Q shape with a smaller "bottle" inside that is the 5 point zone. Hunter's boxes are probably a little wide for the QIT-03, but the QIT-03 center is much taller.
@@DaBigBR actually any hits inside the bottle, not the box inside the bottle get the full 5 points. Anywhere on the paper gets 2 points. It seems silly to me too that they give you 2 points for missing the entire bottle.

The original test you had to use the following: Sig Sauer 229 chambered in .357Sig Target is the FBI-QIT-97 Must wear holster on the side Must wear a cover garment and draw from concealment (a jacket) No optics (use standard sights) No aftermarket parts and the weapon is stock (the shooter on this video used a weapon with optics and a competition trigger) Automatic failure if you don’t make any of the par times. On the stages when you start with the weapon out of the holster, the weapon has to be at the modified high ready (weapon pressed up against the chest with the barrel pointed down range) On the target the center ring is 5 points, the next outer ring is 2 points. 135 to pass with a max score of 150. 30 rounds fired. Must be shot cold with no warm ups on the day of the test, must shoot in front of entire class alone, if you fail after 3 attempts you are basically fired so the stress level is high. Now that being said, I recently started doing hand strength exercises and general conditioning and stretching. Pistol shooting is a very perishable skill. Also I started using a green dot, I am still not as fast as I am with Irons but see that as a potential help.
If a GM can just qualify... that's hard core.
The original test you had to use the following:
Sig Sauer 229 chambered in .357Sig
Target is the FBI-QIT-97
Must wear holster on the side
Must wear a cover garment and draw from concealment (a jacket)
No optics (use standard sights)
No aftermarket parts and the weapon is stock (the shooter on this video used a weapon with optics and a competition trigger)
Automatic failure if you don’t make any of the par times.
On the stages when you start with the weapon out of the holster, the weapon has to be at the modified high ready (weapon pressed up against the chest with the barrel pointed down range)
On the target the center ring is 5 points, the next outer ring is 2 points. 135 to pass with a max score of 150. 30 rounds fired.
Must be shot cold with no warm ups on the day of the test, must shoot in front of entire class alone, if you fail after 3 attempts you are basically fired so the stress level is high.
I can’t seem to find a single video on RUclips that shows someone trying this while using the Sig 229 chambered in .357 Sig
YES, I did pass the original FAM TPC using the Sig 229 chambered in .357
You should make the video then
@@hunter-constantine
I don’t have to post the video because I passed it when I was hired as a FAM right after 9/11 and I had to use the Sig 229 chambered in .357 Sig. So I know what I am talking about. I also do not have an Sig 229 anymore and I am not about to buy one just to show you I can pass it.
Was that really a "low ready"? 2:57
Your welcome
Retired
Aced it 2001
Bro I’m edging just drop it now
Simon says come now
Maybe get a girlfriend or extra fiber 🤷♂️😂 seems most here can’t speak basic middle school English for some reason haha 😂
@@joshmajor8662 bro what
@@joshmajor8662 🤓🤓🤓 is this a point of pride for you? To ad hominem insult everyone who doesn't demonstrate complete mastery of American English in a RUclips comment? Damn us for using slang (part of the established English vernacular despite your pedantic protests)! Get thee hence!
For some reason the tier 1 holsters sit way to far out for me
Not bad. The “low ready” your using would not be allowed. Not sure what language you speak but perhaps compressed ready would be a better representation based on your training.
I was thinking that’s the highest “low ready” I’ve ever seen!
Is that a polymer frame or metal framed M&P? Looks polymer?
When they come down in price I may pick one up right now I carry the kore western version its Buffalo leather and than I use there stiffer nylon one for if I want more gun I'm curious how yours feels with guns and how they hold up y
Your almost double the price for gun belts so that's why I haven't pulled the trigger yet .
About the skills for a Master/Expert in IDPA or a A/B in USPSA.
See if you can find CIA GRS qualification test. Have fun!
Everyone saying “tHaTS NOt lOw REaDY” guys he’d clearly still pass if the gun was slightly lower. It’s not that deep, and unless you have video proof shooting better - you’re just making yourself look like a clown trying to 1up a known great shooter lmao
Feds aren't running red dods yet though, just spoke with my bud who is an air marshal the other day!
I don't know if the FAMS are, but a lot of Federal Agencies have switched to the MRDS/Red dot. As far as the FAMS there might be a concealability issue with adding a Red Dot.
Even though I love to fly and travel....they don't pay enough to go through all the bullshit.
How much do you make?
Dude, it's "Low ready", not "high ready"
Guns pointed at the bottom of the target stand…pretty standard
Also it doesn’t matter
@@hunter-constantine It should be at 45 degrees. It matters because the longer travel means that your muscles have to work just that little bit harder both to accelerate upwards and then stopping. You'd at least get a warning if you held your gun like that in the competitions I do.
@@superkjell I will run this from holster and pass all the drills.
Shout out to Don Garon!
1:46 you swept your support hand. Nah, not for me!
Camera angle
The 3 shots outside of your A- box would actually be counted as 3 points each not 0. So you actually scored a 141 not 135. Nice job.
Boom!
Don't Air Marshalls shoot SIG 229 in 357 SIG? Different trigger action and hardier recoiling caliber is a different and more difficult challenge.
Not anymore. Glock 19/26
now.
Do it over with iron sights. no cheating with the red dot.
What shot timer are you using in this video?
Shooters global
Negative that’s a fail! Liners are minus three!
what shot timer is this?
Shooters Global
good video but i have my doubts that you would pass using the actual 357sig ammo they are carrying.
for sure it would be an expensive attempt haha.
I have confidence I would
BUY A BELT!!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
My man
So, the FBI QIT target is quite a bit bigger than your boxes. I think you wouldn't have a problem qualifying to be an air marshal. You wouldn't be able to use that pistol as someone else stated that the Glock 19 is the weapon of choice.
What ear pro are you wearing?
Surefire plugs
these are all so easy...
Lol why do AM have to be under 37? You're flying around on a plane. Patrol officers can be much older and they still have to do police stuff.
Seems a bit too easy. I will drill this next week. :) :) :)
while he is a good shooter one thing to consider is that Air Marshals are a federal agency. And, are issued service weapons and most likely are not allowed to carry their own firearms and issued specific ammunition. So using a competition pistol is probably not going to happen for qualifications.
It’s literally a Smith and Wesson M&P9 😅
6:23 would have probably made you fail tho
Maybe, if I flagged him.
If you don’t qualify you work for the FBI 😂
