I would suggest him to play sim, it is really hard to compete with the cockpit view in realistic. I find it a lot less difficult to kill players in sim with VR.
I find VR works a lot better in simulator battles because everyone is on similar footing. In realism most people use mouse aim and external view which gives a huge advantage to situation awareness and aiming ability.

Simulator mode, by the way, restricts every player to cockpit view, so you don't have to deal with players in third person with better situational awareness. The flip side is that mouse control in SB is relative control, so the game doesn't fly for you the way it does in RB.
Absolutely this. BTW WarThunder in Sim Battle mode pretty much is like the original Il-2 Sturmovik (FB, AEP, PF, 1946) stuff and also supports Force Feedback IIRC. Having a Sidewinder ForceFeedback 2 still can give you quite an edge.

Btw i do believe by "realism" you mean realistic battles, which while more realistic than arcade sim is far more realistic, glad your enjoying the game and love your content, would love to see you attempt sim gameplay

Hey, could you clear up some things for me please? ayo habie, just wanted to let you know, that ur the only youtuber I actually feel excited for dropping a new vid. Much love and keep up the amazing work.
Yeah Air RB (as we WT veterans call it xD; RB standing for Realistic Battles - Arcade is AB, Sim is SB) is quite something to be new to… You summed up the problems nicely there, you climb for 5 minutes straight, maybe get one kill (if you’re lucky) and then die. Bang, match over, back to hangar. This might also could have been a bit more difficult as you were using the cockpit view - obviously other players using the 3rd person / external view have better situational awareness. If you want a plane gamemode that’s basically made for VR, you should try Sim. Yes, it’s even more realistic - even more difficult to learn and easier to crash, rip your wings, f*** up, you get it - than RB, but as all other players are limited to cockpit view, you will have an advantage over the ones using mouse to view with using VR. Otherwise, War Thunder is in itself a difficult game to get into, as it has a very sweaty community and you will find level 100 players that play since the gale exists at every battle rating, making it even harder and more frustrating to get some practice and fun. But once you are over that beginning challenge, it is a fun game - and the dopamine one gets from seeing those red words pop up is spectacular!
It's pretty hard to play in VR, its awesome but definitely bit harder. If you playing Air Realistic in VR mode you will be at slight disadvantage vs those who using regular outside view and can quickly look around in any direction and see everything. For ultimate realism specially if you planning to use VR you have to play SIM mode. Then everyone is forced to use cockpit view, though controlling the plane is even harder in this mode just heads up lol. Otherwise if you want to just play regular Air Realistic I recommend doing it without VR, you will get more kills.
Habie I doubt you’ll see this but I’ve been here since 8k and may I just say it’s been one hell of a ride. Your videos helped me through a lot of sh**ty times and I wanted to say thank you for being a real one. Like this comment if you want to, but love yourself no matter what, bye.
I bought into IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad, and a couple DLC's (Bodenplotte) and I will say, it is my favorite sim for prop/WW2 planes. I tried in DCS, though servers were sparse, & simulation quality was often shunted to the side for more popular and modern airframes, such as the viper. IL-2 makes a blend of easy-to-use UI, controls, realistic simulation, customization (I have a photo of my cat in the cockpit of EVERY plane I own), customizable missions, and REALLY GOOD CAMPAIGNS. $10 and 5 days in myself (days as in continuous playtime, not started five days ago) Sim is the best mode and the p-38 is my favorite plane 12.5:1 K/D in air sim with it
War thunder was the game who made me discover and want a VR headset. Funny thing is now that I have a VR headset for 7 years, I barely played War thunder. but I spent hours in IL2:Batlle of stalingrad and VTOL. Try flying with a joystick !
Habie! i love your stuff. to paraphrase what im about to say, i am also not good at warthunder, however i find that when i shoot at a plane i get better results shooting in 4 second bursts. it saves ammo and is what the US airforce taught pilots to do in ww2.
VR War Thunder with joystick and throttle controls is probably one of the best gaming experiences, even with how much I struggled with the controls at first.
My brother in law and I finally played a air arcade match tonight. He's a tank guy, but he has so much fun just dying trying to dog fight. Sent him your video just now.
I haven't played War Thunder yet, but I just found this video humorous because I remember learning all these same things playing AirWarrior on AoL back in the mid 90s. I recall getting my ass kicked by Zero pilots because I was trying to dogfight them in a Mustang, then learning you really wanted to boom and zoom them and abuse their inability to climb w/ the P51. Then I went from losing nearly every fight to winning nearly every fight just because I could always pick and choose when to engage and disengage.
I've had a vr headset for years but only recently realized I can play war thunder in vr. It's really neat and fun in a custom match where I'm just flying around but i bet it would be sooo hard in an actual match to do well.
Idk what controls you got for VR or in general but a big thing that helped me was switching throttle to scroll wheel (or any other alternative you may like) and binding WASDQE to plane controls Again in VR not gonna have the same advantages, but being able to look behind you and not have to use the mouse to steer at all helps a shit ton, and the plane will pull harder if you use a key instead of the mouse Another thing is to tap fire, don't just spurt your load in one big fuck you, it only takes one good shot to kill a dude so take your time and tap tap at a dude instead of just holding left click (Unless you've got like 4000 rounds of 50.cal then go ham) Lastly, if you are on fire just turn off your engines and dive, I haven't noticed a huge difference but apparently it helps to put out fires
I know that war thunder could be so much better, but my god nothing out there scratches the itch that WT does , from arcade mode to full simulator, tanks to planes , helicopters to ships and boats. It just so damn good.
As someone that’s played War Thunder since 2013 and has put well over 2000 hours into the game… save yourself while you still can. This game is like an abusive relationship given how many times the devs have managed to reel me back into playing despite all the problems through the years. If this game already has you hooked… well then welcome to the club. I main Air RB battles, so something I can advise you on is that playing in VR mode will ALWAYS put you at a distinct disadvantage compared to the other players in the game. Your situational awareness is significantly going to be hampered, which is often a key to survival in realistic battles. Being able to monitor energy states of aircraft, both your own and that of your enemy, is also extremely important. The more you play RB, the more you’ll realize the strengths and weaknesses of the individual aircraft you come across. I’ll be wishing you luck pilot!
You really should play IL-2 Sturmovik, it has a VR mode, it's incredibly realistic, it makes warthunder RB look like world of warplanes in comparison, and the planes are WAY more detailed than war thunder. I really recommend getting one of the flying circus DLCs, it's a WWI mode and imo it's the most fun mode.

You should bind a key for setting your ailerons to min and max so that you dont have to do that thing were your turning ability is limited because you're constantly having to adjust your mouse position.
If you think this is hard, now imagine doing this in real life. It makes absolute sense that to be considered a "flying ace" is to have acheived FIVE (5) or more downed enemy aircraft.
4:19 Ok now that we have this single clip of Habie’s hitbox I need one of the internet math geniuses to figure out his height in case I need to call him short
The gunsights used to break back in the day when warthunder came out and earlier versions. In sim battles you did need to use those iron sights sometimes! I know i did
If you like this game try out VTOL VR, it’s a first person fighter jet game where you can fly an F22 and F35. It has so many machines and tactics. I would highly recommend it!
VR in air rb is probably one of the largest self handicaps I've ever seen anyone give themselves. If you're gonna try sim get a jopystick I honestly dont know how you dont get motion sick using mouse and keyboard in vr. (retired 4k hrs player btw I freed myself of this curse)
When you feel low ... fly as high in the game as possible then Kamikaze head first and full pelt into the sweet soil below. Un-aliving in VR is the medicine.
I have been playing War Thunder for three weeks now. I learned quickly, and after a week or so, I was very often first on the scoreboards in tiers II and III with a mouse and keyboard in Arcade mode. I was also doing quite decently in Realistic mode. Today, I got a full HOTAS set and set it up (it took me a few hours of tinkering to get the controls mapped perfectly). I also decided it was time for my VR headset, and together it's an amazing experience! 😁 At least in Simulator mode-in Arcade and Realistic modes, I can barely get one kill, MAX. 😂

crazy how habie went from making VR videos to playing Contractors IRL in North Carolina, guess the power of a 724K sub YT channel does go to your head after a while
(luv u habie)
Wait, wut? He's in NC? How do you know?
@@Elmojomo his discord alert for this vid
You should bind a key for setting your ailerons to min and max so that you dont have to do that thing were your turning ability is limited because you're constantly having to adjust your mouse position.
No one cleans the floor with a mop like habie. Get that floor dude
Love you Habie. Your content is amazing and I wait for your uploads every week. Have a nice day.
We need to get this man in a spacecraft
I’ve been stuck trying to run from the snail for 5 years there is no escape
It feels like gaijin doesnt work on VR anymore. Try looking through a targetting pod like the lightning II and pan the camera on the horizontal axis
It’s cool being here so fast :) great video habie, thanks for the gift this week
This game makes me crumble to dust then explode
If you think this is hard, now imagine doing this in real life. It makes absolute sense that to be considered a "flying ace" is to have acheived FIVE (5) or more downed enemy aircraft.
hilarious message at 3:30, when i heard you talking I thought you were having a stroke!
4:19 Ok now that we have this single clip of Habie’s hitbox I need one of the internet math geniuses to figure out his height in case I need to call him short
and simulator is a whole different beast
The gunsights used to break back in the day when warthunder came out and earlier versions. In sim battles you did need to use those iron sights sometimes! I know i did
Wait, so they can't break now? They removed it?
If you like this game try out VTOL VR, it’s a first person fighter jet game where you can fly an F22 and F35. It has so many machines and tactics. I would highly recommend it!
VR in air rb is probably one of the largest self handicaps I've ever seen anyone give themselves. If you're gonna try sim get a jopystick I honestly dont know how you dont get motion sick using mouse and keyboard in vr. (retired 4k hrs player btw I freed myself of this curse)
I have struggled with my mental health lately, you…you have helped❤
When you feel low ... fly as high in the game as possible then Kamikaze head first and full pelt into the sweet soil below. Un-aliving in VR is the medicine.
4 years invested, theres no escaping the snail...
Remember the ABCs of air battles: Always Be Climbing.
